Selection with the Chart Legend ?

Hi experts,
I have a problem with a pie chart.
This is a linked charts, a click on one of the slice determines the display in a table.
The problem is that some slice are really tiny, and it is very difficult to click on it.
Is there a way to make the selection on the legend ?
Or any other solutions ?
Best regards,
Max

Hi,
Try the column chart instead of pie chart and use 'range slider' for changing the limit for better view of legend.

• How to programatically (dynamically) change the chart legend ?

How do I add new labels/symbols to the chart legend dynamically ?
I'm creating a scatter graph using the query
select A,B,C from tableX group by A
B is the y-axis, C is the x-axis. Points plotted for each grouping of A will be a different color. I know I can change the color of the point to be plotted thru the format trigger. The format trigger will change the color of the plotted points when there is a change in the grouping of A. My problem is how can I add a new label/color to the legend for each grouping of A as it is plotted ? The number of groupings of A is variable depending on what's in tableX. I need to programatically create the legend (each grouping of A will have it's own label/color) thru the format trigger as I won't know before hand how many groupings of A there will be.

Try with Presentation variables.

Hi,
In such case I think is better to create a view an perform the delete using it. Example (using HR schema):

Connected as hr
SQL> create or replace view v_employees as select * from employees where first_name like 'J%';

• MSSQLServer4 - Accessing columns from a select with the same name

The following describes a problem I'm encountering using the MSSQLServer4 driver...I have the following 2 tables (greatly simplified):
Create Table BOOK( BookId int, Name varchar(50), AuthorId int )
Create Table AUTHOR( AuthorId int, Name varchar(30) )
and my select is
Select BOOK.*, AUTHOR.*
From BOOK Inner Join AUTHOR On BOOK.AUTHORID = AUTHOR.AUTHORID
As you can see, the ResultSet from this select will have 2 identically named columns called "Name". I realize I could use an alias to differentiate the column names, but then I must list out every column in each table (quite ugly). I had EXPECTED to be able to do a resultSet.getString( "Author.Name" ), but that doesn't appear to work either. Next, I thought I could use the ResultSetMetaData.getTable()/ResultSetMetaData.getColumnName() to determine the ordinal value, but getTable() always returns "". Is there anyway to distinguish these two columns without using an alias?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Regards...Marc

Regards...MarcHi. getTableName() will never work because the DBMS doesn't send the necessary metadata with the result
set that the driver would need to implement that call. If you get 'Name' for multiple column names, JDBC specifies
that getXXX("Name") will always return the first such named column. The only non-alias way is to know
the columns you're going to get in order, and just do getXXX(1), getXXX(2) etc.

• What happened to the ability to hide the "marching ants" (CTRL/CMD H) in Photoshop? I cannot view the edges of my selection with the marching ants in the way!

I have been using Photoshop since version 2.5 when it came on 16 floppy disks. In all of the versions I've purchased over the years (many) up to CS3, I have always been able to use CTRL+H (Windows) or CMD+H (Mac) to hide the "marching ants" selection outline. This is immensely useful when making all sorts of adjustments where the edge of the selection must be viewed while "fiddling with the knobs" (so to speak). Without being able to hide the selection boundaries ("marching ants"), I often have to make a best guess, undo the selection, get bummed that the edge isn't what I want, then have to undo, reselect, try again... over and over. This is such a SIMPLE feature, but the lack of it is driving me crazy. I searched HELP, but it didn't live up to the promise. If there is a way to hide the marching ants, where is the menu item, and what is the shortcut?

You can assign Ctrl/Cmd H to hide Selection Edges (Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts) only, if you don't want to hide everything, but you will be warned if some other function has the shortcut.

• Export a Movie with with the chart only - no background

I need to integrate charts into a training film I am doing and I am having a problem. I need to export the chart to QT as the chart only so I can import it into Final Cut and use it as an overlay on top of other footage.
I understand transparency and "No background" come into play here be no matter how I export the chart/QT move has a background.
Is this even possible...how do I do this?
Thanks a lot.
M

1. You MUST set the background of each slide to NONE. It will look black I think (possibly white) but make absolutely sure it's set to NONE for every slide.
2. You must check the include transparency function in the QT export window
3. You MUST MUST MUST choose either PNG or Animation as the QT codec, and then you MUST choose Millions+ (not just Millions) as the color in the setting for that codec.
That will get you a QT movie with included alpha channel and no background.
If you need more details on how to get to those screens just post back.

• Photoshop Help | Selecting with the lasso tools

This question was posted in response to the following article: http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/selecting-lasso-tools.html

In Photoshop CS5 I was able to use the magnetic lasso, select a section from a photo and drag and drop the selection either in another Pshop or Illustrator doc. Now in Photoshop CS6 when I use the Magnetic Lasso and select an area of a picture, I get a bounding box with a white background that is coming with the selection.I am not getting just what I selected. Do I have something set up wrong, can someone please help with? Thank you....

• When selecting with the lassoo tool, area closes suddenly before finishing

Hello, I have a big problem: when selecting a silohuete with the poligonal lassoo tool, the area suddenly closes without clicking, selecting an area which I do not desire and making impossible to select the silohuete I want. Please can you tell me why this happens and how to avoid it??
Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!

To close a polygonal lasso selection you need to either double-click or ctrl+click. http://forums.adobe.com/thread/416380

• SSRS 2008 - Chart Legend Missing Customitems property

Hi,
I'm currently in the process of converting my SSRS 2005 reports originaly designed with Dundas charts, to a SSRS 2008 report and facing an
issue with the charts legend.
Dundas Charts allows me to create custom legend items on a row, cell collection basis.
After BIDS 2008 has converted the rdl-file everthing looks fine except the custom legend that I have created
in the SSRS 2005 report. The legend items did not appear in the reports preview.
I looked thru all the legend properties and read thru Formatting the Legend on a Chart (Report Builder
and SSRS)
but still unable to locate the properties.
Anyone encounters this issue and likes to share a workaround / solution?
Thanks
Bodo

Hi Mike,
I tried your workaround and it displays properly, but problem is with displaying the Line color. I'm using reportviewer in .Net 2008 and Line control doesn't contain any expression tab. Please help me with setting line color. Attached is RDLC in XML format.

• Text in flash chart legend

Hi- We are on APEX v3.1.2.00.02
A flash chart has been created and works well, but here is my issue:
In the Chart Series query, we have a select (here's a small piece) select total_rfc "Total R.F.C"
When the chart is generated, the legend box appears as Total R.F.C (as seen in the above line).
I really want it to say Total RFC (no periods). If I change the SQL query to "Total RFC", it appears as Total Rfc (2nd & 3rd letters are lower case).
Anyone know how to fix this? I'm fairly new to APEX and I can't quite determine if this is a SQL or Flash issue.

Hi "msnewman",
The behaviour you are seeing is expected in APEX 3.1.2, and is due to the use of the Initcap function in the underlying logic, which is resulting in Legend values appearing with the initial letter in uppercase and the rest of the work in lowercase letters. When you remove the full stops from between R F and C, then the three letters are being picked up as one word, RFC, which will end up like Rfc after being updated by the Initcap function.
In APEX 4.0, however, this is no longer an issue. With Flash 5 charts it is possible to display the value all in uppercase, as you can see in the Bar Chart example here: http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=36648:5. So if you are contemplating upgrading to APEX 4.0.2, our latest release, you would be able to take advantage of this change to the behaviour of the chart legend, as well as much nicer looking Flash charts.

Hilary

• CRVS2010 beta - chart legend

Hello,
I created a pie chart with a legend. Usually, when the legend has percents, the last row on the legend has the word "Total" and a percent. The legend has what looks like a field name with underscores.
I right-clicked on the chart and selected chart options - - > general.
Everything on the dialog box has something like "_e_[field name]".
on the chart options submenu, the template and titles options dialog boxes also have the same issue.
Is there some option that I need to change for the dialog box and the title field on the legend to change or is this a bug in the beta version?
I searched this forum for a solution but did not find anything.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Hi Ludek,
I am happy to hear that the chart legend is scheduled to be fixed.
This one was a little scary, because it worked in the prior version of crvs. At first, I thought that there was something wrong with my beta 1 installation.
I didn't realize that the chart component was 3rd party.
thank you

• Custom Formatting Of Chart Legends

I've been playing with Flex Charting, and I have lots of nice
looking graphs that I've created from database feeds. However, what
I really want to know how to do is format the chart legend better.
For example I have a pie chart that has about 50 different data
items/series and the legend is huge in either horizontal or
vertical mode it prints all the way down the page. How can I make
it two, three or more columns?

Hi Justin,
I think, there is no way to do such a customization with the standard Javadoc (i.e. powered by the Standard Doclet).
After all, the job of the standard Javadoc is doing standard (general) things and I just cannot imagine any general rule (setting or option) that would embrace all kinds of possible customizations about displaying of annotations.
So, the only way in your situation would be to modify the doclet itself. You can try tweaking the standard doclet: overload some its classes or change sources (according to the license they provide). However, I just can say, that way proved to have lots of limitations.
Fortunately, I could suggest you a different rote that would allow you solving your problem in a few minutes. We have a product called "DocFlex/Javadoc":
http://www.filigris.com/products/docflex_javadoc/
This is a highly customizable Javadoc doclet. More exactly, this is a system for rapid development of professional quality doclets (with the support of both framed/single-file HTML and RTF output).
With that tool, the generation of every sort of Javadoc output is programmed in special templates (using graphic Template Designer). The product is provided with the "standard template set" that generates the HTML Java API documentation very similar to the standard Javadoc.
In fact, to solve you task, you will need to modify a subtemplate called "annotations.tpl". See on this page: http://www.filigris.com/products/docflex_javadoc/templates.php
If you are interested about all this, we could help you to modify the necessary template absolutely free. Then, you will need only to buy a full product license to have everything work without limitations and that will be all!
So, if you are interested, please let us know by sending a e-mail to the address found on this page:

• Chart Legend: Worked in Beta, No longer working in Prod

Hi everybody,
The legend attached to the LineChart is no longer displaying the proper color. That is, the line, in the linechart is red (as requested) but the "legend" is black. It is supposed to be a red square and the word "Jobs" but I get a black square (as it is not picking the fact that it should be red).
<s:SolidColorStroke id="s3" color="red" />
<mx:Legend dataProvider="{myChart}" />
<mx:LineChart id="myChart"
x="10" y="40" width="600" height="400"
dataProvider="{platformsData}"
showDataTips="true" >
<mx:series>
<mx:LineSeries yField="id" displayName="Jobs" lineStroke="{s3}"/>
</mx:series>
</mx:LineChart>
This worked in Beta but no longer works in Production. Is this a bug or I need to make coding changes to accommodate to new Production ways of dealing with this?
Regards,
egm

Seems like a bug to me. If you remove lineStroke="{s3}", the chart legend loads fine.
Might have something to do with fill color perhaps?
In any case, the fills documentation says:
"If you specify the fills property and you want to have a Legend control, you must manually create a Legend control and add LegendItems to it."
Perhaps the entry for lineStroke should say the same.
In the mean time you could use the defaults, or a custom Legend, like this (place into an AIR 2 project if you try running it):
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<s:WindowedApplication xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"
xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx" width="1059" height="722">
<fx:Script>
<![CDATA[
import mx.events.FlexEvent;
[Bindable]
public var platformsData:Array = [{id:1, jobs:'Test1'},{id:4, jobs:'Test2'},{id:6, jobs:'Test3'},{id:9, jobs:'Test4'}];
]]>
</fx:Script>
<fx:Declarations>
<s:SolidColorStroke id="s3" color="0xFF0000" weight="2" alpha=".8"/>
</fx:Declarations>
<mx:Legend>
<mx:LegendItem label="Jobs" fontWeight="bold">
<mx:fill>
<mx:SolidColor color="0xFF0000"/>
</mx:fill>
<mx:stroke>
<mx:SolidColorStroke color="0xFF0000" weight="2"/>
</mx:stroke>
</mx:LegendItem>
</mx:Legend>
<mx:LineChart id="myChart" x="53" y="124" width="600" height="400" dataProvider="{platformsData}" showDataTips="true">
<mx:series>
<mx:LineSeries yField="id" displayName="Jobs" lineStroke="{s3}"/>
</mx:series>
</mx:LineChart>
</s:WindowedApplication>

• SSRS Hide one data value label in chart legend

Is it possible to hide one value in the legend? I've got a stacked bar chart, but there's one value that I don't want to display in the Legend. Is it possible to hide this particular color and label in the legend?
Thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris,
Yes. In Reporting Services 2005, you could add a filter to hide one value label in the chart legend. This can be done with the following instructions:
In Report Designer, open the chart properties dialog box and go to Data tab.
Double click the item in the Series groups to open the Grouping and Sorting Properties dialog box.
Switch to the Filter tab. Add a filter using the following setting:
Expression: =Fields!<FieldName>.value
Operaiton: !=
Value: =”value”
If you have any further questions, please let me know.
Thanks.

• Problems with pie chart formatting - APEX v2

Hi - I have created a region with an SVG Pie Chart and set the CSS to display the three segments as red, yellow and green using one of the examples from a previous forum posting. That all works fine, but I still have two issues with the chart:-
- the legend is displaying too big and is overlapping the right hand region border which looks messy. Is there anyway to force the size of the legend as there is lots of blank space to the right of the labels/values?. If not, is there any way to get the legend to display at the bottom of the area rather than to the side of the chart?
- the pie chart is 3D but the colours are only displaying on the side, not the top. Is there something I need to set to get this to work OK? Current CSS included below.

For this we have to change the .pcxml file for the pie chart .This is the path

I am not sure whether it will work or not but try it out
