Self running program/servlet

Hi All,
I have a servlet and want it to run on its own everytime after some fixed period.
Actually I have some oracle queries in the servlet which need to be run at the start of each month so that certain flags could be updated in the database and depending on those flags I need to show some scoreboards for the whole month.
Now my question is how do I write a cron type servlet that runs by itself at some fixed time ?
Is my approach right or do I need to write the logic at the database level ?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Dear arian,
arian wrote: I would recommend to split this task from the servlets.Point noted.Thanks.
arian wrote:You can create a class with timer which can perform seperatelly from servlets and will do those updates. This is what I actaully want. But can you explain me in detail how would I create a class with timer and make it run on its own to do the updates.
Thanks for your reply,

Not at all, because servlets require a servlet container. Some Eclipse plugins (Lomboz etc.) do provide integration with those.

    root cause
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: HelloWorld (wrong name: hall/HelloWorld)Is your servlet contains first line as package hall;If it is there, remove it from the servlet code. And run your program.
If you want to keep it, then make a folder named hall in classes folder and put your HelloWorld.class there. Also change <servlet-class> as
    <servlet>
        <servlet-name>HelloWorld</servlet-name>
        <servlet-class>hall.HelloWorld</servlet-class>

  • How do i run a servlet??????

running servlets:i downloaded jsdk but how do i run a servlet? i got the error
    C:\WINDOWS\Desktop>javac HTTPGetServlet.java
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/sun/tools/javac/M
    ain
when i tried to run my servlet, please help
    thanks

As mentioned in another post in the thread, servlets run from within a web server that has pre-loaded the jvm and serves web requests. Often they are called 'sevlet containers' as they act like a wrapper program for the actual vm. Tomcat is such a web server, quite a popular one for running servlets, and is considered the reference implementation for a sevlet/jsp server. you can read up on it at...
    http://jakarta.apache.org/tomcat/index.html
To get you started, this is what i did to set up tomcat. Im using RedHat Linux at home, so this may differ to what you have to do initially.
First, make sure you have at least the jsdk and jsdk ee installed and the appropiate JAVA_HOME and J2EE_HOME environment variables set.
I am using the Apache web server to handle web page requests on my box. If the request is for a context containing a servlet or jsp file (context is a tomcat term for a particular location or path in the url) then apache passes the request to tomcat via a apache module and a special protocol. Tomcat then runs the .class file or .jsp file, returns the output to apache which then returns the output back to the browser. So initially you should set up and have the apache web server running.
Next download and install the jserv or tomcat module for apache, which apache uses to communicate with tomcat via a special protocol, and the tomcat rpms from...
    http://jakarta.apache.org/builds/jakarta-tomcat/release/v3.2.3/rpms/
...Im using 3.2.3 which works fine. you may try the later versions if you like.
Install the tomcat rpms. They should dump a whole lot of stuff in a /var/tomcat directry, including some nice sample and admin apps. if you had downloaded and installed the tomcat-manuals rpm you can find lots of helpful information in the /usr/doc/tomcat-{your version here}/ directry. This is what you should probably read through now!
Once that is done, its simply a matter of adding a reference in your httpd.conf file to the tomcat.conf file in the tomcat/conf dir (if you want to have complete control over the tomcat module and contexts) or tomcat-apache.conf (in the same directry) if youd like tomcat to handel its own configuration of apache. something like...
    include /var/tomcat/conf/tomcat.conf
    ...should do.
then run tomcat start (in /usr/bin/) and apache and away you go. You should be able to point your browser to your.server.com/admin/ and get the tomcat admin tools. This allows you to add view and delete contexts to your server (say for separating different server-side applications). your.server.com/examples/ has some nice stuff as well.
Hope this helps. I warn you im not an expert and haven't looked at this stuff for some time. I probably have something wrong so please, experts, if you see something stuffed up let us know.

    -----------------------------------------------

    Hi,
We have had the same problem in a non-express application
with a heavy server partition. In our case, the error was not
systematic, depending on the server workload at the time we
    tried to partition and run.
The work-around we're using is to put the -fm flags (increasing the x
parameter to say 30000) in the 'server arguments' of your server
    partition
properties in the partition workshop. Note that if your server is a Unix
    platform,
you need to put double-quotes before and after the parenthesis in the -fm
    syntax.
    Hope this helps,
    Vincent Figari
BTW, what Forte version are you using ?

Subject: Can't Run program in Debug Mode
Has anyone else experienced this problem? We have written a
    non-express
program that uses the Express generated services project as a supplier
plan. However, when we try running this program in debug mode about
    50%

  • Access to a FG from another running program

Group, Is there any way to "get a hold of" a reference of a functional global running inside another vi?  I have a program that uses a functional global to pass data between vi's of a program.  I have this program starting up as a service when I start the computer so I don't really have access to its front panel.  Part of the data that the FG holds is a STOP flag and will shut down mulitple parts of this program.  I would like to build another program that I can start and run at will that will set the STOP flag in the "hidden" running program.  I am not sure quite how to do this.
    Thanks
    Todd

What you are essentially asking to do is to access an internal resouce of another program. Doesn't really matter if it's a LabVIEW program. In your case you could enable the ActiveX server for the other program so you can access the VI that way. The LabVIEW Help contains information on how to enable the ActiveX server for an app and how to use it from another application. You could also use shared variables. You can take a look at this overview for more ideas:

  • I am having a problem w/ my itunes working correctly due to accidentally running Itunes through my troubleshooting, running programs made for previous versions of windows!! How do I turn it off?!??

I am having a problem w/ my Itunes working correctly, after accidentally running Itunes through my  troubleshooter  to, Run Programs Made For PreviousVersions of Windows. It keeps popping up that the Compatibility  Version is on, to make sure it's off before opening my Itunes Account. I've looked everywhere, Please, Please, How Do I Make This Right??!??

It sounds like either your hard drive or the SATA cable that connects it to the motherboard are failing. This could be heat related in your case, which is why you see it after it runs awhile. You can take it to the Genius Bar for a free evaluation. If you decide to test it yourself, I usually suggest moving the hard drive to an external enclosure. If it works there for awhile, the cable is probably the issue.

    regards,

  • How can I run a servlet with Sun Java System Application Server PE 8?

I've created a package with a TestServlet.class inside, used the deploytool to create a WAR and deployed this using the autodeploy folder.
The filestructure has been generated and I find the TestServlet.class in
    [installdir]\domains\domain1\applications\j2ee-modules\testProject\WEB-INF\classes\[packagefolderstructure]\TestServlet.class.
The context root is working fine, but I have no clue how I can run the servlet directly via the URL.
    I've tried many things like
    http://localhost:8080/testProject/TestServlet
    http://localhost:8080/testProject/servlet/TestServlet
    http://localhost:8080/testProject/servlet/[packagenamewithpoints]TestServlet
    http://localhost:8080/testProject/servlet/[packagenamewithslashes]TestServlet
    etc etc
Can somebody tell me please how to write URLs to deployed servlets? Or send me an example url and xml descriptor files?
    Thanks a lot in advance!

    in web.xml use servlet mapping
    <servlet-mapping>
        <servlet-name>TestServlet</servlet-name>
        <url-pattern>/doit</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>then use http://localhost:8080/testProject/doit

  • Error While trying to run a servlet

I am getting the below error while trying to run a servlet using tomcat. In this admin is a directory where I have a html file called admin.html which calls the servlet AdminServlet & replaces the url by /servlet/AdminServlet.
    HTTP Status 404 - /SPOT/admin/servlet/AdminServlet
    type Status report
    message /SPOT/admin/servlet/AdminServlet
description The requested resource (/SPOT/admin/servlet/AdminServlet) is not available.
For more details I am also copying the code from the admin.html file below.
    <script language=JavaScript>
    document.location.replace('../servlet/AdminServlet');
    </script>

JavaScript != javareplace or redirect ??

  • 404 Error Message while running a servlet

Unable to run Snoop Servlet in JRUN 2.3.3 running on IIS4.0. I give the url
as http://websitename/servlet/SnoopServlet . But I get HTTP error 404 error.
I am trying to run the snoop servlet in the jrun/jsm-default/servlet directory. But, I am not able to run the servlets that are in the Servlet directory. It says '404 - Page Not Found Error'. Can anyone help me out what should I change to run the servlet when I type http//websitename/servlet/snoopservlet. Where 'snoopservlet' is the servlet in the servlets directory.

I have been using JRun 3.1 and the default servlets directory is:
    servers\default\default-app\web-inf\classes
Try to put your servlets in this folder.
