Selling phone didn't turn off find my iPhone
HI. Got a 6 and selling my 4S, so I reset it to factory and pitched the SIM card two days ago.
IT's already updated to iOS 8.0.2.
ignorant! Forgot to turn off Find my iPhone before reset. And I'm supposed to ship it across America tomorrow! The buyer would have a brick if he wouldn't have my iTunes password. Sure don't want to give that to a stranger!
So, i went into iCloud.com and removed the phone from that account.
Then I turned it on, went through the preliminary set up process, reconnected to wifi, but got an error message that i must insert a valid SIM to proceed. Staff at my local AT&T store said I don't need a sim; I just needed to get on wifi to get back into find the iPhone, turn it off, and good to go.
What to do now? Only way out is buy a new SIM?
Thanks for help!
Thank you. I probably should have hit the Correct Answer button, but I haven't actually tested the solution by ensuring that the phone can be safey activated by the new user.
For sure he must get his own SIM. I was just concerned that Apple's newest theft safeguards have added a new layer of tethering between icloud and a phone's hardware identity, such that, even though it's been erased successfully, it's still tethered to the old account and prevented from being activated with a new account unless find my iphone was formally turned off prior to erasure.
Over worried. The 'tethering' just prevents the erasure in the first place. I entered the password back then already, so the phone should be good to go for the new buyer.
Thanks again. This forum and you experienced people are a god-send.

Forgot to turn off find my iphone and reset phone
Didn't turn off find my iphone and sold my 5c. They reset the phone and now can't log out of my icloud on the phone. Tried resetting and now says verification failed an SSL error has occurred and a secure connection to the server cannot be made. That comes up everytime I try to delete the icloud or log out, and now I tried to reset the phone again and comes up that message. I logged into icloud online and removed the phone from my icloud. Still nothing!!!
Try removing it at http://icloud.com on the computer.

I am trying to restore my daughters iPhone because she forgot her passcode. I'm stuck because iTunes is telling me to turn off Find my iPhone in iCloud settings but I can't do that because the phone is locked. HELP!
iCloud: Remove your device from Find My iPhone - Support - Apple
Sign in to icloud.com/#find with your Apple ID (the one you use with iCloud). If you’re using another iCloud app, click the app’s name at the top of the iCloud.com window, then click Find My iPhone.
Click All Devices, then select the device.
Click Erase device, then enter your Apple ID password. Because the device isn’t lost, don’t enter a phone number or message. If the device is offline, the remote erase begins the next time it’s online. You’ll receive an email when the device is erased.
When the device is erased, click Remove from Account. All your content is erased and someone else can now activate the device. -
I've forgotten my passcode and can't get into the phone to turn off "find my iphone" in order to restore it... Can anyone help?
If you know the password to your apple id login - you can then do a restoration once you have put your device into recovery mode using itunes.
read this article to give you direction how to put your device into recovery mode.
Once you have put in your apple id login and password this then will allow you to restore the device once the device is placed in recovery mode.
good luck!

My iPhone 4 screen stopped working. The phone is still on but the screen is not working at all, it is juts black. I was told restoring my phone might solve this problem so i plugged it into iTunes. When I click on the restore iPhone button a message popped up saying I needed to turn off 'find my iPhone' in phone settings for the restore to be go ahead. Problem is I cant access my phone!
I went onto my cloud account to see if i could do it from here but it doesn't seem to be doing anything. Any ideas? From your iCloud account, you can go to Find My Phone and remove the iPhone from your devices list which will release it, or you could do a remote erase of the iPhone from iCloud.

How can I turn off find my iPhone to restore when it won't let me into my phone settings.
I went to use my phone last night and suddenly it says activation is required (which I'm not sure I understand alone) but I began to go through the steps and it says it can not activate because the beta has expired and I need to do a system restore. So I proceeded to do the system restore by plugging into iTunes and it tells me it cannot do a restore unless I turn off find my iPhone but my phone will not allow me to look at any settings other than my wifi settings in its current state. How can I turn this off to proceed and what is going on with my phone in general?
Force it into recovery mode to restore it as explained here: If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Sometimes you have to do this more than once to be successful. After restoring, you'll have to restore an existing backup, if you have one.

I have another account that i can't delete off my phone because lost my recovery key and password. How do i get rid of this account? it will not let me turn off find my iphone and delete account. Can anyone help?
Hello aweirandyski.1975,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
From what you're describing appears to be Activation Lock, a security measure provided by Apple that makes it harder for people to use a lost or stolen device. You will need to enter the password for the Apple ID the device is prompting you for.

Someone else has put a password on my phone. I have read all the restoring or backing up methods but when I go to do those it says to turn off find my iPhone in my setting. If I cant unlock my phone I obviously can't turn this off. Help
If you have a lock code, how did someone change the apple ID for "find my phone?" You should go by the apple store and let them help you.

I updated my wife's iPhone 4 to IOS 7. While trying to setup the new installation, I get the message " Find My iPhone must be turned off before Phone can be restored. Go to iCloud Setting on your iPhone and turn off Find My iPhone before restoring your iPhone". The problem is that that option is not available on the phone at this stage of the set up.
Any suggestions?I tried that but I still got the message "Unable to verify account information." I saved it anyway and when I go to the Exchange email account it says "Cannot Get Mail" "The connection to the server failed." We are running Microsoft Exchange 2010 and I was always able to sync my calendar and email before I upgraded to IOS 6.

help, i need to restore my phone, I keep getting an error to turn off find my iphone, I can't get into the phone b/c my daughter change the password and doesn't remember what she changed it to.
Remove an iOS device or Mac on which you can’t turn off Find My iPhone
If you can’t turn off Find My iPhone on the device, turn off the device so it goes offline, then remove it from Find My iPhone on iCloud.com.
Note: If you have an iOS device, you can also remove your device by first erasing it—just follow the instructions below to remove a device you don’t have. You can later restore the device from an iCloud or iTunes backup.
Turn off the device.
Sign in to icloud.com/#find on another computer with your Apple ID (the one you use with iCloud). If you’re using another iCloud app, click the app’s name at the top of the iCloud.com window, then click Find My iPhone.
Click All Devices, select the offline device, then click Remove from Account. If you don’t see Remove from Account, click All Devices again, then click the Delete (x) button next to the device. If the device comes online again, it will reappear in Find My iPhone. To make sure your device doesn’t reappear, turn off Find My iPhone on the device (follow the instructions above to remove an iOS device or Mac), or if you have an iOS device, you can erase it, then remove it (follow the instructions below to remove an iOS device you no longer have). -
How can i turn off find my iphone if i dont have the phone and its turned off
i lost my phone, so activated find my iphone and also put the lock on it. the battery died so the fone is now off. i ended up buying a new phone and im trying to restore the latest computer back up onto the new fone but it is saying that i need to turn off find my iphone. i went to icloud and removed the lost device but because it is turned off its not working . is there any way around this or at least getting my photos and contacts onto my new fone. and i dont have anything saved on icloud
after ive connected the phone to itunes and i click on restore backup a box pops u and says
Find my iphone must be turned off before 'My Iphone' can be restored.
Go to icloud settings on you iphone and turn off Find my Iphone before restoring your iphone.
the first time this came up i went into icloud on my computer and removed the old phone from there but from what ive read it will only be properly removed when the fone gets turned back on. -

I am unable to restore my iphone, because it has become disabled. When I go to restore, it says to turn off "Find My iPhone" app. I can't, because it is disabled. I deleted the app and it still says the same thing. Any ideas?
The Find My iPhone app has nothing to do with this. Deleting the Find My iPhone app which is used to find another iOS device or Mac computer you own or for someone else to find their iPhone or iOS device with your iPhone does not turn off Find My iPhone with your iCloud account settings on your iPhone.
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1212
If you have Find My iPhone enabled, you can use Remote Wipe to erase the contents of your device. If you have been using iCloud to back up, you may be able to restore the most recent backup to reset the passcode after the device has been erased.
