Semi-random songs added randomly to playlist [bug]

So I've come across this one weird bug, I opened up a playlist I created recently and oddly enough new songs had been added in the middle of the playlist that I haven't added myself. And it's a private playlist. I say semi-random songs because there were only songs from other playlists, starred songs or songs added to my collection. I do not know what caused this bug. My only usage recently has been listening to playlists.I'm using the spotify webplayer on firefox 39, windows 7 64bit. I doubt that has any relevance to the cause, but now you know.Curious if there's anyone else having experienced the same issue or if this is an isolated case.

Cat, Thank you for your input. I got it to work but not exactly the way you said, and it took me a couple of tries before I got it embedded in my brain. So here is what I did. I brought up my playlist Dan, and added some songs. While in the playlist I went to the main menu and clicked on NOW PLAYING. It brought me back to the song that was playing. I then clicked OK and this showed all the tracks now in the play list. I highlighted one of the tracks and clicked OK. Then I clicked on SAVE AS PLAYLIST, Wrote Dan
and then YES to overwrite. Although I clicked on only one track, it added all the new tracks to Dan. Whew! Not exactly creating a permanent playlist on the fly, and if I was to start from scratch, I would have the name of my playlist one letter long. Is this the way it is supposed to be? I suggest a firmware upgrade that when you press ADD TO SELECTED that does it, and not going through all this other stuff.

  • Random Smart Playlists

    I've set up a series of smart playlists which select songs at random from my library.
    I thought that these would make a new selection of songs each time I synced my iPod but this doesn't seem to be happening. How do I get these to refresh?

    iTunes has no 'refresh' button, so the contents of a playlist with random contents will stay the same.
    To force iTunes to refresh the list:
    Select all songs in the (smart) playlist and press the DEL-key.
    iTunes will now delete the items from the list and repopulate it with different songs.
    After that you can sync the iPod with the new contents.
    Hope this helps.

  • Using PHP to display semi-random images?

    Hello,
    I'm looking for help using PHP and MySQL to generate semi-random images on my web site. Here's what I'm trying to do: I have 60 images, but I only want to display 16 at a time (for examlpe http://artisdead.net/antelopegardens.php).
    The way I imagine this is, the design has 16 image placeholders. I want Placeholder 1 (the first image) to randomally pull record ID 1, 2, or 3 from the SQL database, while Placeholder 2 pulls record ID 4-6, etc. It's important that one of the first 3 images displays first, while one of the second 3 images displays next, etc.
    I've found various ways to randomize all the images, but I'm not understanding how to constrain the randomization the way I'm looking to. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Before offering a possible solution, I should point out that your plan has a minor flaw. If you display only 16 images, and want the random choice to come from incremental sets of three, the maximum number you can have in your set is 48. The final 12 images will never be selected. For 60 images, you need 20 placeholders. The alternative is to have a total set of 64 images, and make the random choice come from incremental sets of four images.
    With that caveat, here's how I would do it. The primary keys of your records might not be consecutive, particularly if records are deleted and new ones added, so it might be a good idea to have a separate column with consecutive numbers from 1 to the the maximum. To select random numbers from incremental groups of three, use the following:
    $id = array();
    $min = 1;
    $max = 3;
    for ($i = 0; $i < 16; $i++) {
      // generate random number from current set
      $id[$i] = mt_rand($min, $max);
      // increment the minimum and maximum numbers for the next set
      $min += 3;
      $max += 3;
    // join the selected values as a comma-separated string
    $vals = implode(',', $id);
    $sql = "SELECT image FROM images WHERE id IN ($vals)";
    // excecute the SQL query

  • Song tracks are not downloaded properly from iTunes Store: they are not added to the playlists, and eat disk space

    Hi,
    Yesterday I wanted to upgrade my wife's iPhone (5, 16 GB) from iOS 7.0.6 to iOS 7.1.
    She had only 500 MB of free space, and 1.9 GB was needed, so I decided to temporarily remove a number of songs from her music library.
    After this operation there was 2 GB free, and the upgrade went successfully.  After the upgrade there was still 2 GB free.
    Then I wanted to download the songs again, and here something went wrong:
    I went to iTunes Store > More > Purchased > Music, and clicked on "Download all".
    When the download process was completed, there was about 500 MB free space, but I noticed that some of the tracks, and even a complete album, were actually not in the playlists; in another album only one of the 30 tracks or so was downloaded.  So I went again into iTunes Store > More > Purchased > Music, and indeed some of the tracks were still marked as "to download", with a little cloud in front of them.
    When I tried to click on one of these little clouds to download a given track, the track seemed to be downloaded, but as soon as the download was finished the little cloud reappeared again, and the track wasn't added to the playlists.
    I tried to repeat that process a few times, until I noticed that there was now only 90 MB of free space.
    I then tried to download one more track that was 10 MB large, and after this there was only 80 MB of free space.
    So it seems that the tracks are indeed downloaded (and downloaded again if I click again on the little cloud) in a place where they use disk space without being otherwise accessible.
    What can I do to:
    1. download the tracks correctly so that they appear in the playlists?
    2. clean up the space that was wasted?
    Many thanks in advance!

    Depending upon what country that you are in (music can't be re-downloaded in all countries) then try deleting the incomplete tracks from your iTunes library and redownload them via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes : re-downloading.
    If you aren't in a country where you can re-download music or if they re-download in the same state then try the 'report a problem' link from your purchase history : log into your account on your computer's iTunes via Store > View My Account and you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it ; click on that and you should see a list of your purchases ; find those tracks and use the 'Report a Problem' link and fill in details about the problem (iTunes support should reply within, I think, 24 to 48 hours).
    Some people have had a problem with the 'report a problem' link (it's been taking people to this site on a browser instead of showing a form in iTunes) - if it does that to you then try contacting iTunes support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/- click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page.

  • Adding mp3s for playlist mixes that don't clutter Artist & Album views with single songs?

    Sometimes I like to just grab various mp3s on my computer & stick them in a directory for a quick mix, for a drive or get-together or whatnot. Problem is, when I add the directory to iTunes it populates my Album & Artist views with these single songs. When the playlist is 60+ songs (many of which are single tracks not duplicated in existing iTunes albums or artists) the default browsing views get really cluttered & I'm not looking to find these when I'm browsing the general collection - just want them for that particular playlist.
    Is there a way to add a directory of mp3s while telling iTunes to ignore sorting them by Album or Artist or displaying them anywhere but the playlist? I've tried "Part of a Compilation" but it doesn't seem to be always effective & at that point I already have to tediously sort through to find all the stragglers. Again, with a large playlist this can take a ton of time.
    I'm guessing (hoping) there's a quick fix for this, any suggestions?

    No, what you see is what you get... If you want to add a track to an iTunes playlist it gets added to the library proper, and the details show up where appropriate.
    If you're not bothered about preserving the original details Album=My Playlist Name, Album Artist=Various Artists, and Part of a Compilation=Yes will minimise the impact, provided you use the options under View > Column Browser to Group Compilations and Use Album Artists
    See Grouping tracks into albums for general tips.

  • Random album playlist on iphone

    Hello, so I'm actually embarassed because I'm not able to make any random album playlist on my iphone, maybe due to a new update. Before I made a smart playlist where I choosed to sort my albums randomly, so i can enjoy my albums entirely, then I synchronyze my phone. But since yesterday, when I tried to do this, when I synchronyzed this smart playlist, all my albums were sorted in the alphabetical order, not randomly. If anyone knows how to get to play entire albums randomly on the iphone or at least to get my smart playlist to play in the random order that i made with itunes, i would be very thankful.

    Connect the phone to a computer
    Click on the phone under devices
    Click on the music tab above the picture of the phone in the middle of the screen,
    Uncheck sync music -remove music - apply - recheck sync music.
    This should remove music from any accounts.
    then resync your music

  • Syncing Iphone computer doesn't work. deletes songs added to playlist on phone.

    no matter what I try to do, iTunes continues to ruin all of my hard work. I create playlists on my computer, but I often add songs through my phone. when I sync my phone to my computer after adding a bunch of songs, the computer thinks the playlist should not have the songs I added on it, so it removes the songs or renames the playlist as Favorites 1 or Favorites 2. it is a really big pain and I would really appreciate it if someone could tell me how to connect the playlists to the cloud so that whenever I make a change on one device, it automatically changes it on my laptop and iPad. Thank you.

    Hello WEDimagineer,
    You may want to consider subscribing to iTunes Match as that will have the ability to sync your playlists. I will say that it does cost money if you want to do this and it is a year fee of $24.99. Take a look at the article below to see if this will be what you are looking for.

  • I created a new playlist and added tunes to another.  When I synched my ipod showed the new playlist heading but 0 songs, although it correctly received the new songs on the updated playlist.  Tried to synch several times with the same result.

    I created a new playlist and added some songs to another existing one.  When I synched with my PC, it loaded the new playlist heading but 0 songs, but did add the new songs to the existing playlist.  Repeated the process several times without success.

    This earlier post may help.

    For me,  (long winded way) I drag the playlist from the bottom tree to the iPod branch.
    Then select iPod.
    Click the music tab on the right window.
    click sync tick music
    go down to the playlist section and tick the playlist.
    Apply.
    Good Luck.

  • My MacBook freezes semi-randomly.

    My MacBook, which up until about a month ago has served me well, has begun freezing at inconvenient, somewhat random times.
    The reason for it freezing only semi-randomly is this: I've noticed that on most of the occasions my MacBook has frozen, it had been bumped or jolted. At first, I was able to reset it and continue working with it, but in the past week it seems to have moments when it is extremely sensitive to touch and movement and freezes when I adjust the back window, try to move it somewhere else, or in the worst case put slight pressure on the base keyboard.
    Whenever it freezes, large portions of the screen suddenly become "static," sometimes in the form of intermitent columns of black (with other colors inside) and sometimes as random vertical lines of varying thickness of the same color described above. Attempting to type, use the trackpad, or move the back screen in this state causes the screen to flicker and the lines to change position.
    I'm unsure if this is a firmware issue, due to how appears to be connected of movement and pressure; my MacBook doesn't freeze every time it is moved or pressure is put on it, otherwise I wouldn't be able to post this.
    I'm not sure if it's directly related, but my macbook is cracking/peeling on both the top case and bottom case. I've been meaning to get it repaired, but haven't had the time.
    Can anyone help me with this?

    Is your computer still under warranty? If so, just bring it in to have the machine repaired. If not, you may be able to get the machine diagnosed for free at an Apple store.
    This sounds to me like some sort of hardware failure, possibly the graphics chipset, and the hard drive may also have issues.

  • Adding songs to an Existing Playlist

    I've got songs in the iTunes music folder and created a playlist with selected tracks. I now want to add additional songs to the existing separate playlist. For whatever reason, I can't seem to copy an additional song(s) to the playlist that I previously created, the copy/paste command will not work. What can I do?

    You don't copy paste to a playlist.
    Just drag a song to it.
    You cannot drag songs to a smart playlist.

  • Adding songs to an existing playlist on an iPad

    I Have an existing playlist which I created. It's not a Smart Playlist. Now that I finished the list a while ago I'd like to add more songs from my music library. There doesn't seem to be an obvious way to do anything but delete songs. Does anyone know how to add songs to an existing playlist on an iPad?

    I assume that the songs are already in the Music app on your iPad.
    Go to the Playlist tab in the Music App and select the Playlist that you want to add songs to. Tap Edit in the upper left - above the first song in the list. Then tap the red + sign in the upper right portion of the screen. Scroll/swipe down through your songs and then tap the + signs to add the songs to the Playlist. When you are finished, tap Done.

  • Workaround for iPhone smart playlist bug

    There is a bug (do a search for smart playlist in this forum) with smart playlists not displaying the correct songs on the iPhone.
    I just tried something that seems to have worked...
    I have a playlist in iTunes called "Recently Added" which I want to keep synced with my iPhone.
    I created a new smart playlist called "Recently Added (iPhone)". The playlist has one rule: "Playlist is Recently Added" with live updating checked.
    I now sync this second playlist with the iPhone and all the correct songs show up in it.

    Excellent idea Jeff.
    Your approach works for the same reason that my original idea works.
    The inclusion of another playlist as a condition in a smart playlist, causes the playlist to become "rasterized" or static.
    The developers wanted smart playlists to be really smart - instead of copying a static list of songs from the smart playlist to the iPhone/Pod, they simply send the definition of the playlist to the iPhone and let it calculate which songs from it's own library belong on it.
    The nice thing about their approach is that the playlists will continue to live update on the Phone in-between syncs - so if you have a playlist called "Last 25 played" it will have the last 25 played songs on your iPhone, instead of the last 25 played songs that you played in iTunes.
    The problem of course, is that there's a bug in the way the iPhone calculates these rules (probably related to the porting of code to a new architecture).
    So why does this fix work?
    Well, my theory is that when you create a smart playlist that references another playlist, iTunes simply calculates the songs that should appear on the smartplaylist and sends a literal list to the iPhone/Pod.
    This solves the problem that would be created if you only sync the parent playlist, and not the playlists it references. (IE, if you would want to be able to sync the "25 most played" playlist without also having to sync the "MusicOnly" playlist).

  • Any way to play Spotify on shuffle -- ALL the available songs not just a playlist?

    Is there any way to just play Spotify songs on shuffle, have it pick randomly among all available songs?  I would think this would be available but do not see how to do it.
    Thanks
    Bob

    Well, let's be clear, this was a PAST FEATURE that was simply removed.  Early on you could easily shuffle tracks among all playlists. Later that was removed. I posted on here somewhere and some smart person on this forum told me I could just shuffle from 'Library'.  OK, that was fine, that worked, I was happy. Now, with the Black Update, 'Library' is gone, along with the ability to shuffle-play songs randomly automatically darting in and out among all my playlists. That is a feature I dearly liked too, dang it. I agree, it's LAME to not be able to shuffle play ALL SONGS in ALL PLAYLISTS.
    It would be great to shuffle all music available on Spotify but for now I would be very happy to just have the old 'library' function back.For now I just made a folder which I named 'Library' and put all my playlists in it. Since I also have a lot of songs that are not in a playlist I always save every song/album to a playlist named 'All music' and put that playlist in the 'Library' folder as well. I just like to play my music on shuffle and be surprised by some song I haven't heard in ages, don't know why it's not possible to just implement this in Spotify.I know it's not a pretty workaround but since there is no other option I got used to it. Too bad the folder won't show a the songs in it as a list...no logic behind that because it makes things more difficult like search and clicking on album art for instance.
