Send an alert to notify ssrs report rendering is failed

Hi Friends,
I have one small requirement.
When ever the report fails in rendering time or report is not working(due to some data issues), I have to
send an alert to notify people this report is rendering failed or report is throwing some error.
How can I do that, please help me on this..

Hi Priya,
SSRS unfortunately doesn't give much automatic altering when reports fail (for whatever reason).  There is however a good logging table you can use.  I use the below query to monitor failed subscription, however you easily modify it to find any
failures:
SELECT
c.Name AS [ReportName],
sb.[Description] AS [SubscriptionDescription],
sb.DeliveryExtension AS [DeliveryType],
sb.LastStatus AS [LastRunStatus],
sb.LastRunTime AS [LastRunTime],
c.Path AS [ReportPath],
'http://YourSSRSServer/Reports/Pages/Report.aspx?ItemPath='+REPLACE(REPLACE(C.[Path],'/','%2f'),' ','+')+'&SelectedTabId=PropertiesTab&ViewMode=List&SelectedSubTabId=SubscriptionsTab' AS [SubscriptionLink],
sc.ScheduleID AS [SQLAgentJobName],
sb.SubscriptionID
FROM
ReportServer.dbo.ReportSchedule AS RS
INNER JOIN ReportServer.dbo.Schedule sc ON rs.ScheduleID = sc.ScheduleID
INNER JOIN ReportServer.dbo.Subscriptions sb ON rs.SubscriptionID = sb.SubscriptionID
INNER JOIN ReportServer.dbo.[Catalog] c ON rs.ReportID = c.ItemID AND sb.Report_OID = c.ItemID
WHERE
(sb.LastStatus LIKE 'Failure%' OR sb.LastStatus LIKE 'Error%' OR sb.LastStatus LIKE '%not valid%')
Once I find failures I send an email and enter them into a table (so I can monitor over time with another SSRS report).
Thanks,
UnoT

  • Custom rendering extensions not working in SSRS Report Designer (rsreportdesigner.config)

    My custom rendering extension is working in Report Builder (in RSReportServer.config), but not in Report Designer (in RSReportDesigner.config):  instead of adding a "TXT" export option, it's just adding a duplicate "CSV" option.
    SUMMARY:
    Is there a way to get these features working, with Report Designer?
    DETAILS:
    We are running SSRS (Reporting Services) under SQL Server 2008 R2.
    Here's my rendering section:
        <Render>
          <Extension Name="XML" Type="Microsoft.ReportingServices.Rendering.DataRenderer.XmlDataReport,Microsoft.ReportingServices.DataRendering" />

          <Extension Name="TXT" Type="Microsoft.ReportingServices.Rendering.DataRenderer.CsvReport,Microsoft.ReportingServices.DataRendering">

                    <FieldDelimiter>,</FieldDelimiter>
                    <Encoding>ASCII</Encoding>
                    <NoHeader>true</NoHeader>
                </DeviceInfo>
            </Configuration>
          </Extension>
          <Extension Name="IMAGE" Type="Microsoft.ReportingServices.Rendering.ImageRenderer.ImageRenderer,Microsoft.ReportingServices.ImageRendering" />
          <Extension Name="PDF" Type="Microsoft.ReportingServices.Rendering.ImageRenderer.PDFRenderer,Microsoft.ReportingServices.ImageRendering" />
          <Extension Name="HTML4.0" Type="Microsoft.ReportingServices.Rendering.HtmlRenderer.Html40RenderingExtension,Microsoft.ReportingServices.HtmlRendering" Visible="false" />
          <Extension Name="MHTML" Type="Microsoft.ReportingServices.Rendering.HtmlRenderer.MHtmlRenderingExtension,Microsoft.ReportingServices.HtmlRendering" />

          <Extension Name="WORD" Type="Microsoft.ReportingServices.Rendering.WordRenderer.WordDocumentRenderer,Microsoft.ReportingServices.WordRendering" />
        </Render>
    When I add the above "TXT" section to RSReportServer.config, then Report Builder (and production) both show an export option "TXT(ASCII,NoColHds)".
    But when I add this "TXT" section to RSReportDesigner.config, and then (in Report Designer / BIDS) attempt to export from a "Preview" of the report, the export drop-down does not show a "CSV" option followed by a "TXT"
    option, but instead shows the "CSV" option twice.
    This simply limits testing of the export option, to Report Builder... or requires any reports be published from Report Designer before they can be tested with
    this export option.
    (FYI, why this export option:  compliance in our industry requires sending data to government agencies, in text files, with fixed-length columns, and ASCII encoding.  Also, we're attempting to give the production of these files to the *users* managing
    communication with those agencies... so we're putting them into SSRS.
    I worked around the fixed length columns (and no delimiters -- no commas), by writing a version of the report where all string columns are padded, and all columns are concatenated, to form ONE LONG COLUMN... but Reporting Services' CSV export format produces
    a Unicode file (UTF-8, which the agency rejected, because it had a leading "", or "EF BB BF" in hex), whereas the agency requires an ASCII file.)

    Hi Doug_atMidway,
    According to your description, you want to enable your custom render extension. Right?
    In Reporting Services, if you want to deploy the custom extension, you just need to add the extension into rsreportserver.config file.  The
    RSReportDesigner.config file stores settings about the rendering extensions available to Report Designer. Since you still use the csv rendering extension in your assembly, we don't need to do any modification in rsreportdesigner.config file. Pleaes
    refer to the links below:
    Thanks for attempting to help, Simon.
    As my question states, I've *already done* both the above:  changed (1) rsreportserver.config and (2) rsreportdesigner.config.  I added the same code, shown above, to both files.  I did that so I could see the new "txt" extension
    both (1) when exporting in production and Report Builder, and (2) when exporting in Report Designer's "preview".
    The change in (2) is not working:  I do not see the "TXT" extension in Report Designer, when I try to export from a preview.  Instead, Report Designer shows the CSV extension repeated.
    Thanks for the docs.  I consulted them (well, I consulted the EQUIVALENT pages, for SQL Server 2008 R2), when creating my block of code above.
    Do you see anything to correct, in my code?
    Are the features I'm using actually working, with rsreportdesigner.config?
    Thanks again,

  • Problem running SSRS report on SharePoint 2010 - report renders rendomly

    I have an SSRS master report that contains about 30 sub-reports. These reports are deployed to SharePoint 2010 server. Per my understanding these reports run independently of Reporting Server (execute directly from the cube/database).
    It appears that this master report executes for about 10 minutes and then returns a blank page for most requests. Seldom it returns the master report consisting 30 sub-reports. I have checked Report Server logs using the following query and it shows no trace.
    Use ReportServer
    select * from ExecutionLog3 order by TimeStart DESC
    I set SharePoint 2010 logging to the lowest level and reviewed the log for the run-time of the report. This log shows that the report and sub reports are being executed, however it does not provide any significant error information. Follows a sample of what
    SharePoint log contains for single sub-report execution.

    I have tried running reports on IE 8, IE 9, Chrome and on multiple systems. This random behavior does not change across browsers or machines. Report is rendered for one out of 10 requests (if at all).
    Has someone experienced this problem? I have been spending a lot of time just to see the report output of the master. Unfortunately my SharePoint reports use shared data-sets and it is not possible to run master from Visual Studio 2008 IDE as well.
    Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi Kenny,
    Thank you for your question.
    From your description, you can to move the parameter pane from right to the top in the SharePoint site, right? I am afraid this cannot be done in SQL Server 2008R2 SSRS reports on SharePoint 2010 integrated mode. And this is a know issue which you can see:http://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/details/545893/allow-ssrs-parameter-panel-to-be-formatted
    Thank you for your understanding.

  • SSRS report does not rendering properly in sharePoint 2013

    Hi everyone,
    I'm a newbie with the MSBI development tool, I've tried to create a testing SSRS reports and its layout showed correct when preview them in Visual Studio (2010 and 2012). Then I migrated the report in SharePoint 2013, but the layout do not rendering as I
    expected, some data mix-up on the matrix table
    The Ident on detail data (drill down) does not render properly compare the layout in when preview in Chrome or Visual Studio (SSRS)
    The summation on second matrix table went wide on both browsers compare when preview thereport in Visual Studio
    The export PDF (using the "action" button on the report in the browsers) showed the second matrix table is overlaps the first matrix table.
    This report has 3 main queries (2 for the matrix tables and 1 for the chart) on a Dev environment:
    Window server 2008 R2 with service pack 2
    SQL server 2012 enteprise with service pack 2
    SharePoint 2013 (no service pack) with integrated mode on the report service
    Visual Studio 2010 development tools
    I'm very appreciate for anyone can provide any solution to solve this issue.
    Thank you so much,
    Dac.
    P.S.: I attached the preview of the report in both browsers (IE & Chrome) and its preview in Visual Studio.
    An update: ... due to the setting space on"snap to grid" default to 20 and I've made the 2nd matrix table overlaps the 1st one, therefore the it showed overlaps when export to PDF file ... it's solved.
    But the Indent on IE and summation still persist in both browsers.

    Hi everyone,
    The PDF's export has been solved due to the 2nd matrix table overlaps on the 1st table.
    Also, I don't know why the summation (aka Row Total) went wide when data represented on the 2nd matrix table (see previous post on the row named as "Premium over 5000$" on both browser. So I've redesigned the 2nd table as normal table instead of
    matrix table ... and the summation showed correct (it's so weird)
    For the "Indent" issue showed in IE on both drill down of the 1st table and 2nd table which cannot be fixed, and the end user used only IE.
    Could someone can enlighten me please?
    Many thanks.

  • Problem sending a standard landscape SSRS report to a printer

    I have successfully used the Printer Delivery Extension sample (_//msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms252091(v=vs.100).aspx) in a vb.net  winforms application to send a 28” X 17” rdlc report to a specialty printer.
    However, I cannot seem to successfully send an 8.5” X 11” landscape report (rdlc) directly to a printer without preview or printdialog using the same approach.
    I have tried setting the paper size to “custom” in Report Properties in the report design  (this automatically reverts to “Letter” due to the dimensions).  I also tried reversing the width/height dimensions  in the report design and in the “PageWidth”
    and “PageHeight” settings in the <DeviceInfo> configuration info for the output emf file.  I have tried various combinations of PrintDocument settings (including setting DefaultPageSettings.Landscape=true), with no success. I also tried setting
    the DefaultPageSetting pages size to one I created programmatically with the correct dimensions (1100/850). Even though it is defined as a landscape report, I get either a report broken over 2 portrait pages, or a report squeezed into a smaller area on a single
    portrait page.
    I don’t know if there is a device setting that would “tell” the emf file that this is a landscape report, but it’s almost like that information is not being passed, despite of all the settings I have experimented with.
    Does anybody have any suggestions?  I have researched this online and tried every suggestion I have read.  According to other posts, some others had been unable to get this to work also.
    UPDATE: This problem is still unresolved.  The report now prints in landscape mode, but the intended 10"X9" report is being compressed into an area 8.5" wide.  This is an excerpt of the code I am using:

        ' Prepare for the next page. Make sure we haven't hit the end.
        m_currentPageIndex += 1
        ev.HasMorePages =
    (m_currentPageIndex < m_streams.Count)
    End Sub
    When stepping through the code in PrintListPage using debug, ev.PageSettings.Papersize shows a width and height of 1100 and 850, and ev.PageSettings.Landscape is set to True.  However, the rectangle shows a size corresponding to 8.5 X 11.  In

    ev.PageBounds.Top - CInt(ev.PageSettings.HardMarginY), _
    ev.PageBounds.Width, ev.PageBounds.Height)
    I have tried swapping ev.PageBounds.Width and ev.PageBounds.Height, and actually hard coding numeric values for width and height, and the rectangle still appears to be dimensioned as portrait.  Does anybody see what I am doing wrong, and how to fix
    this?

    With active debug i got following information:
    The first mail in the debug-log is with the source code as quoted in my first post, the second mail is when i cut out the part which generates and adds the attachement. I had to make the adresses anonymous, but the second mail contains a lot more adresses then the first, although they both use the same query with same parameters, etc.
    Have i done something wrong with the attachements? Overwriting headers, syntax errors, anything? I'm out of ideas...
    edit: Had to cut out the debug-log because it is too big. It just said that everything was working ok, but the first mail contains too few adresses and the second (without attachement) the correct number of adresses. I can mail the log, if you like.

    I want to to check that Email was sent or not So I wrote below query but I think table  will be over written on each execution of subscription and cannot see the history. I can see only the latest data.
    SELECT A.NAME,B.Description,B.LastStatus,B.LastRunTime
    FROM [dbo].[Catalog] A
    INNER JOIN [dbo].[Subscriptions] B ON A.ItemID=B.Report_OID
    WHERE TYPE=2
    AND NAME='REPORT_NAME'
    AND B.LastStatus LIKE '%EMAIL ID%'
    AND B.LastRunTime>Getdate()-1
    ORDER BY B.LastRunTime
    There is another query which says that report was rendered by SUBSCRIPTION and have no track that Email was sent or not.
    --Query to find out how a report was execute
    SELECT * FROM EXECUTIONLOG3
    WHERE REQUESTTYPE='SUBSCRIPTION'
    AND ITEMPATH LIKE '%REPORT NAME'
    ORDER BY TIMESTART DESC
    There is any way to track this?

    Hi S Kumar Dubey,
    According to your description, you want to find the failed subscription report and resent the report to users again.
    In this scenario, you can run the query below to find the failed subscription.
    use ReportServer
    go
    SELECT C.Name, S.LastRunTime, S.LastStatus, S.Description
    FROM Subscriptions AS S
    LEFT OUTER JOIN [Catalog] AS C
    ON C.ItemID = S.Report_OID
    WHERE LEFT (S.LastStatus, 12) != 'Mail sent to'
    AND LEFT (S.LastStatus, 12) != 'New Subscrip'
    Then you can execute the code with jobstep command below to find the corresponding SQL Agent Jobs for failed subscription, then execute the job to send the email again.
    select 'exec sp_start_job @job_name = ''' + cast(j.name as varchar(40)) + ''''
    from msdb.dbo.sysjobs j
    join msdb.dbo.sysjobsteps js on js.job_id = j.job_id
    join [ReportServer].[dbo].[Subscriptions] s on js.command like '%' + cast(s.subscriptionid as varchar(40)) + '%'
    where s.LastStatus like 'Failure sending mail%';

  • International SSRS report printing for both A4 and Letter

    I've been reading a few articles on the net about making reports either A4 or Letter and I am aware of how to change the layout of the page to be specific for either
    The problem we have is that we have some users that use A4 paper, and other users that use Letter size paper.
    We would ideally like the user to press the print button from the browser window (note not exported to PDF) and for the report to be printed off on their favourite printer
    We have modified the layout to be the lowerst common denominator size (210mm x 279mm).  When we print to our printer which uses A4 paper, it errors because the paper size is odd and needs confirmation to use A4 instead.  I am making the assumption
    that using a printer with Letter size has the same problem.
    We do not want our users to have to deal with errors on their printer every time they try to print a report, it doesn't look good.  We don't want to write 2 versions of each of our reports as that will be time consuming and a maintenance nightmare
    Has anyone managed to make SSRS reports printer agnostic or at least be able to print out on either A4 or Letter without additional intervention on the printer?
    Tony

    Hi Tony,
    What version of SSRS are you using? Are you seeing this from the Report Viewer control or Report Manager?
    In my Report Manager, when I try to print a report (SSRS 2008 R2), the Layout defaults to Letter. When I look at the report (RDL) property in BIDS, the PageSize property is set to 8.5in (Width), 11in (Height), which refers to PageWidth and PageHeight respectively.
    The following blog explains these properties:
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/bwelcker/archive/2005/08/19/alien-lanes-_2800_logical-and-physical-pagination-rules_2900_.aspx
    In SSRS 2005, for the Report Viewer control, due to a VS 2005 issue, we had a situation where it would not allow custom paper size. By modifying the report page size to the exact Letter size (279.4mm = 11 inches), for example, we would be able to see the
    Letter size in that situation. This should be fixed on and after SSRS 2005 SP2.
    In general, after rendering a report, Reporting Services sends the height and width information to the printer driver when we try to print a report, which selects the appropriate paper type based on the report size.
    In my test, when I tried to print, it chose Letter with Portrait Orientation. I was able to change it to A5 from the Print Dialog and was able to print in both ways (A5/Letter) without any error message.

  • SSRS Reports taking long time to load

    Hello,
    Problem : SSRS Reports taking long time to load
    My System environment : Visual Studio 2008 SP1  and SQL Server 2008 R2
    Production Environment : Visual Studio 2008 SP1  and SQL Server 2008 R2
    I have created a Parameterized report (6 parameters), it will fetch data from 1 table. table has 1 year and 6 months data,      I am selecting parameters for only 1 month (about 2500 records). It is taking almost 2 minutes and 30 seconds
    to load the report.
    This report running efficiently in my system (report load takes only 5 to 6 seconds) but in
    production it is taking 2 minutes 30 seconds.
    I have checked the Execution log from production so I found the timing for
    Data retrieval (approx~)       Processing (approx~)               Rendering (approx~)
    10 second                                      15 sec
                2 mins and 5 sec.
    But Confusing point is that , if I run the same report at different time overall output time is same (approx) 2 min 30 sec but
    Data retrieval (approx~)       Processing (approx~)                Rendering (approx~)
    more than 1 min                            15 sec
    more than 1 min
    so 1 question why timings are different ?
    My doubts are
    1) If query(procedure to retrieve the data) is the problem then it should take more time always,
    2) If Report structure is problem then rendering will also take same time (long time)
    for this (2nd point) I checked on blog that Rendering depends on environment structure e.g. Network bandwidth, RAM, CPU Usage , Number of users accessing same report at a time.
    So I did testing of report when no other user working on any report But failed (same result  output is 2 min 30 sec)
    From network team I got the result is that there is no issue or overload in CPU usage or RAM also No issue in Network bandwidth.
    Production Database Server and Report server are different (but in same network).
    I checked that database server the SQL Server is using almost Full RAM (23 GB out of 24 GB)
    I tried to allocate the memory to less amount up to 2GB (Trial solution I got from Blogs) but this on also failed.
    one hint I got from colleague that , change the allocated memory setting from static memory to dynamic to SQL Server
    (I guess above point is the same) I could not find that option Static and Dynamic memory setting.
    I did below steps
    Connected to SQL Server Instance
    Right click on Instance go to properties, Go to Memory Tab
    I found three options 1) Server Memory   2) Other memory   3) Section for "Configured values and Running values"
    Then I tried to reduce Maximum  Server memory up to 2 GB (As mentioned above)
    All trials failed, this issue I could not find the roots for this issue.
    Can anyone please help (it's bit urgent).

    Hi UdayKGR,
    According to your description, your report takes too long to load on your production environment. Right?
    In this scenario, since the report runs quickly in developing environment, we initially think it supposed to be the issue on data retrieval. However, based on the information in execution log, it takes longest time on rendering part. So we suggest you optimize
    the report itself to reduce the time for rendering. Please refer to the link below:
    My report takes too long to render
    Here is another article about overall performance optimization for Reporting Services:

  • Ssrs report web service to save report as pdf throws error Soap exception unhandeled by user code

    I am creating a C# web application to save  an SSRS report as a pdf file on my local machine.

    On the Report Manager home page the report link appears as "SAMPLE LETTER".
    It is deployed in the DataMgmt folder on the Report Manager.
    It uses a data source called "DS Letter" with option "Credentials stored securely in the report server"
    My application gets compiled, but I get the following run time error:

    Hello Devster,
    Thank you to post your question on TechNet forum.
    After reviewing the whole post, I have a question to you. You can access the report via the link, http://myServer/Reports_DEVPROJECT/Pages/Report.aspx?ItemPath=%2fData+Mgmt%2fSample+Letter.
    From the URL, I can see that the report is located at: /Data Mgmt/Sample Letter, instead of /DataMgmt/Sample Letter. In addition, I found that the target report is "/DataMgmt/Sample HAP Letter" instead of "/DataMgmt/Sample Letter" as the error described. I
    am not sure whether you post out the correct code segment.
    Please check the above things on your side, and hope it is helpful to you.

  • Problem with passing 2 or 3 members from filter to drillthrough report (SSRS report) in PPS

    Hi,
    I have one dashboard and one filter in PPS. Dashboard contains one main analytical chart report-- sales by Product category and the filter name is Year (contains the members values from 2005 to 2014).
    I have one more drillthrough report--- Detailed report for sales by product category (SSRS report)
    SSRS report having two parameters 1. year  (Multi selection) 2. Product category (single selection)
    Now, I have select 2006,2008 in the pps filter and analytical chart report rendered based on the filter values.
    next, on the analytical chart, I have selected on bar item (cars) out of 4 categories(Cars,Bikes,Trucks,Accessoreis) and right click -->drillthrough-->click on Detailed report for sales by product category.
    I have verified the ssrs detailed report and pps is passing only ALL member instead of passing 2006 and 2008 to the Year filter and Cars category members correctly passed to product category parameter from PPS.
    Note: If I have passed one member values (year=2006), pps is able to pass to ssrs report. But, it failed in two or more member values from filter.
    I have verified in sql profiler also. PPS passing ALL member to SSRS detailed report Year parameter.
    Please provide your suggestions.
    Thanks,
    kishore

    sorry for the late updation.
    My First Report, Summary level is a Pivot Table.
    I tried the same report with Table option, the value is passing correctly.
    Is there a way to get rid of this situation using Pivot table.
    Thanks for your help.
    below is the original request.
    Hi,
    I am Hemanth, I have developed 2 reports. Firast Report High Level Summary, Secong is detailed. First report is developed using Union(4 union) , I am having 4 columns. The report is generating the data. I have used Navigation option on Client Column to move on to Second report. In Second report with in Filter i am using Prompted option. Due to some problem, the client value from first report is not passing to the second one. The second report is getting generated for all the clients.
    Normally i have used this Navigate option in other reports and that works fine. I have even tested with Union, it works. This time it is giving some trouble.
    Please, let me know whats going wrong.
    Thanks for the help.

  • Need to print an SSRS report in a web application to a designated printer without displaying in report viewer

    In an asp.net webforms app, I need to be able to print SSRS reports directly to designated printers without displaying them in the report viewer.  This needs to occur when I click on a button on the page, and I can use either local or server
    side reports.  There are 4 different reports, and one needs to be directed to a different printer from the other 3.  One of them also has very rigid formatting requirements, so the formatting cannot be altered by the print method.  I have
    researched this for hours, but all the solutions I have found for doing this are for windows apps, not web apps.  Can anybody help?

    Hello,
    You can try to use the Report Service web service to render the report and send to a printer to print the report programming.

  • SSAS report action to pass multi-value list of dimention key values to a SSRS report parameter

    This was originally posted on StackOverflow and suggested I try here as well.
    I want to create a report action in an SSAS OLAP cube that generates a list of formatted values to pass into an SSRS report parameter that accepts a multi-valued parameter list.  This would be applied at the
    cell level in the SSAS action.  I have found a solution that gets me most of the way:
    How to Pass Multiple Values from an SSAS Report Drill Through Action to an SSRS Multi-Value Parameter, but not quite.  The action does appear in Excel and works
    if I run the action from a cell that is at or below the dimension attribute I am generating the list for, in this case,
    Account Key.
    Below is a link to a screen capture (unable to embed it due to lack of reputation) showing the action and dimension structure in Excel.  The action works as long as I run it at the
    Account Key level or below.  I want to be able to run it at higher levels, such as
    Account Major and still have it generate all then related Account Key values for the SSRS report parameter.  Running it at the higher
    Account Major level does not trigger the report to run.
    Excel Action Screen Shot:
    http://i.stack.imgur.com/QCGSp.png
    Below is the MDX I am using to generate the value for the report parameter:
    UrlEscapeFragment(
    GENERATE(
    DESCENDANTS(
    [Account].[Account Key].CurrentMember,
    [Account].[Account Key].[Account Key]
    [Account].[Account Key].CURRENTMEMBER.Name,
    "&rp:Account="
    I am hoping that I can somehow modify the MDX above to make it return all the
    Account Keys for any attribute of the Account dimension when ran from any measure cell, not just when ran at self and children of
    Account Key in the pivot table.
    Also, if it helps, I can execute the following MDX query on the cube and get the results I am looking for.
    WITH MEMBER [Measures].[Account Key List] as
    GENERATE(
    DESCENDANTS([Account].[Account].CurrentMember, [Account].[Account].[Account]),
    [Account].[Account].CURRENTMEMBER.NAME,
    "&rp:Account=")
    SELECT {[Measures].[Account Key List]} on 0,
    ([Account].[Account Company Number].[Account Company Number],[Account].[Account Major].[Account Major]
    ) on 1
    FROM [Company 10 Action Demo]
    Below are partial results:
    10.116&rp:Account=10.116.010
    10.117&rp:Account=10.117.010&rp:Account=10.117.020
    10.120&rp:Account=10.120.005&rp:Account=10.120.006&rp:Account=10.120.010&rp:Account=10.120.020&rp:Account=10.120.030&rp:Account=10.120.040&rp:Account=10.120.050&rp:Account=10.120.060&rp:Account=10.120.380&rp:Account=10.120.999
    10.123
    Questions
    Any ideas what I might need to do to get Account Key to be returned for any attribute of the
    Account dimension?
    Would I possibly have to alter my Account dimension in the cube to get this to work?
    Thanks in advance.
    Edit 1 - Adventure Works Cube Version
    I was unable to get the suggested answer with the "Exists" function to work.  To better demonstrate this issue, I have recreated it using the Adventure Works Cube.
    I will focus on the Customer dimension, specifically the Customer and
    Education attributes.  I created a report action called Test Report Action.  Below is the XML created for it in the cube.
    <Action xsi:type="ReportAction" dwd:design-time-name="f35ad5ee-5167-4fb8-a0e0-0a74cc6e81c6">
    <ID>Report Action 1</ID>
    <Name>Test Report Action</Name>
    <TargetType>Cells</TargetType>
    <Target></Target>
    <Type>Report</Type>
    <ReportServer>SQLSERVER</ReportServer>
    <Path>ReportServer?/Test Report</Path>
    <ReportParameters>
    <ReportParameter>
    <Name>Test Customer Existing</Name>
    <Value>UrlEscapeFragment(
    GENERATE(
    EXISTING DESCENDANTS(
    [Customer].[Customer].CurrentMember,
    [Customer].[Customer].[Customer]
    [Customer].[Customer].CURRENTMEMBER.Name,
    "&amp;rp:Customer="
    )</Value>
    </ReportParameter>
    </ReportParameters>
    <ReportFormatParameters>
    <ReportFormatParameter>
    <Name>rs:Command</Name>
    <Value>Render</Value>
    </ReportFormatParameter>
    <ReportFormatParameter>
    <Name>rs:Renderer</Name>
    <Value>HTML5</Value>
    </ReportFormatParameter>
    </ReportFormatParameters>
    </Action>
    Below are the steps to re-create the issue.
    Connect to the cube in Excel
    Add dimension Customer -> More Fields -> Customer
    Add measure Internet Sales -> Internet Sales Amount
    Right-click Internet Sales Amount cell, select "Additional Actions" -> "Test Report Action" and see customer values created for URL
    When the action is ran at this point with Customer, I see the values created in the URL shown message box (since there is no SSRS report server at location specified).
    Now the part I'm unable to resolve
    Remove the Customer dimension and add Customer -> Demographic -> Education
    Right-click Internet Sales Amount cell, select "Additional Actions" -> "Test Report Action"
    Nothing happens. If I ran the action on the cell next to "Bachelors", I would want it to build up all the list of all the "Customers"  that make up the "Bachelors" in the
    Customer dimension as part of the report parameter.  If no attributes where used in the cube from the
    Customer dimension for that cell, then I would like it to return "All Customers", or something similar to show that all customers are included in the aggregations.
    I am not too MDX savvy, thus far.  I think I need to somehow join the
    Customers to Internet Sales Amount in the Generate function portion.  I have tried several different combinations of the
    Customer dimension and Internet Sales Amount, along with various functions to see if I could get this to work with no success.  I am hoping that someone more knowledgeable the me will have a solution.   If you need more details,
    please ask and I will provide them.

    Simon,
    Thanks for you help with this.  This morning I found a workaround.  Below describes what that is.
    What I ended up doing was getting a list of values from a degenerate dimension that I could use to pass to SSRS to get a list of transactions for a report.  Below is how I did this, in relation to the Adventure Works cube using the degenerate dimension
    Internet Order Details.
    WITH MEMBER [Measures].[Order Param List] AS
    GENERATE(
    EXISTS([Internet Sales Order Details].[Sales Order Number].[Sales Order Number].Members, ,
    "Internet Sales"),
    [Internet Sales Order Details].[Sales Order Number].CurrentMember.Name,
    "&rp:OrderNum=")
    SELECT {[Measures].[Order Param List], [Measures].[Internet Sales Amount]} ON 0
    ,([Date].[Calendar].[Date]) ON 1
    FROM [Adventure Works]
    This will get a list of Sales Order Number in a text string, separated by "&rp:OrderNum=" for each measure of
    Internet Sales. This would allow me to create an SSRS report to bring back detail information for each
    Sales Order Number. Below are some sample results.
    May 16, 2007 SO50493&rp:OrderNum=SO50494&rp:OrderNum=SO50495&rp:OrderNum=SO50496&rp:OrderNum=SO50497&rp:OrderNum=SO50498&rp:OrderNum=SO50499&rp:OrderNum=SO50500 $12,157.80
    May 17, 2007 SO50501&rp:OrderNum=SO50502&rp:OrderNum=SO50503&rp:OrderNum=SO50504&rp:OrderNum=SO50505&rp:OrderNum=SO50506&rp:OrderNum=SO50507&rp:OrderNum=SO50508 $13,231.62
    May 18, 2007 SO50509&rp:OrderNum=SO50510 $4,624.91
    With this, I can then create a Report Action in SSRS with a Parameter Value of
    UrlEscapeFragment(
    GENERATE(
    EXISTS([Internet Sales Order Details].[Sales Order Number].[Sales Order Number].Members, ,
    "Internet Sales"),
    [Internet Sales Order Details].[Sales Order Number].CurrentMember.Name,
    "&rp:OrderNum=")
    The way I was going about it before was flawed, as I was trying to get a list of the granular values from each dimension used to build the measure value and pass each one of those as separate parameters. I just needed to set something unique for each fact
    measure transaction that represents the value and uses that in a query parameter for the SSRS report.

  • Urgent : SSRS reports zoom in option is not working in IE9 compatability view

    Hi,
    We have SSRS reports which when viewed in IE 9 compatability view, zoom in option is not working properly.
    SSRS report have 4 charts inside a rectangle. when zoom in from 100% to 50% only rectangle shrinkes not the charts.
    Please let me know why it is happening and solutions if any?

    Hi Wendy Fu,
    Thanks for your support. Below are the steps and screenshots as per your requirement.
    /*******************Below are the steps to replicate ************************/
    This document explain IE9 compatibility issue with SSRS report (SSRS 2008 R2 and IE9)
    Tools and software used:
    Reports are rendered on Share Point 2010 server which uses SSRS 2008 R2.
    Reports are accessed using web browser IE9, IE10 ….
    Problem statement:
    To work OTHER reports compatibility mode in IE should be ON
    To work SSRS reports (mainly zoom) compatibility mode in IE should be OFF
    OTHER report is being used by customer and they will start using SSRS reports as well. While using both OTHER reports and SSRS reports customer do not prefer to keep switching between compatibility modes.
    “Browser Mode: IE9”
    Steps to reproduce Zoom issue for SSRS report with Compatibility mode is given below:
    Step-1: Select Tools menu -> Compatibility View Settings
    Below setting is suggested for OTHER users so tick as shown below,
    Step-2: On decision center select link and Open the report home page and click the link to open the report.
    Step-3: On SSRS reports Change Zoom level from 100% to say 50%. Here all charts are not moved with container frame.
    If “Browser Mode: IE8” is set with following steps then this issue does not happen.
    Press F12 and from and select IE8 as shown below.
         Press F12 again so this will set the mode and then try Zoom option it works fine. However this setting temporary and will remain for the session only.

  • Save SSRS Report as pdf using Reporting Services

    I've been trying to convert a SSRS Report to PDF and save to
    my local drive using the Reporting Web Services. Though I'm able to
    generate the corresponding pdf file but the contents of the file are
    missing. I've checked that the report I'm trying to convert is not an
    empty one. Only the header section is present there within the generated
    pdf files. Below is the code I'm using:
    protected void GeneratePDFFromReport(object sender, EventArgs e)
    RS2005.ReportingService2005 rs;
    RE2005.ReportExecutionService rsExec;
    // Create a new proxy to the web service
    rs = new RS2005.ReportingService2005();
    rsExec = new RE2005.ReportExecutionService();
    // Authenticate to the Web service using Windows credentials
    rs.Credentials = new System.Net.NetworkCredential("username", "password", "domain");
    rsExec.Credentials = new System.Net.NetworkCredential("username", "password", "domain");
    //rsExec.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials;
    rs.Url = "http://servername/reportserver/reportservice2005.asmx";
    rsExec.Url = "http://servername/reportserver/reportexecution2005.asmx";
    string historyID = null;
    string deviceInfo = null;
    string format = "PDF";
    Byte[] results;
    string encoding = String.Empty;
    string mimeType = "application/pdf";
    string extension = String.Empty;
    RE2005.Warning[] warnings = null;
    string[] streamIDs = null;
    // Path of the Report - XLS, PDF etc.
    string fileName = @"C:\Report\MemberReport.pdf";
    // Name of the report - Please note this is not the RDL file.
    string _reportName = @"/ReportFolder/ReportName";
    string _historyID = null;
    bool _forRendering = false;
    RS2005.ParameterValue[] _values = null;
    RS2005.DataSourceCredentials[] _credentials = null;
    RS2005.ReportParameter[] _parameters = null;
    try
    _parameters = rs.GetReportParameters(_reportName, _historyID, _forRendering, _values, _credentials);
    RE2005.ExecutionInfo ei = rsExec.LoadReport(_reportName, historyID);
    results = rsExec.Render(format, deviceInfo, out extension, out encoding, out mimeType, out warnings, out streamIDs);
    Guid siteID = SPContext.Current.Site.ID;
    GuidwebID = SPContext.Current.Site.OpenWeb().ID;
    stringbudgetName = string.Empty;
    try
    SPSecurity.RunWithElevatedPrivileges(delegate()
    using(SPSitesite = newSPSite(siteID))
    using(SPWebweb = site.OpenWeb(webID))
    web.AllowUnsafeUpdates = true;
    web.Files.Add(web.Url + "/Shared Documents/SharepointMemberExpenseReport_" + DateTime.Now.ToShortDateString().Replace('/','-') + ".pdf", results, true);
    web.AllowUnsafeUpdates = false;
    catch{ }
    try
    FileStream stream = File.Create(fileName, results.Length);
    stream.Write(results, 0, results.Length);
    stream.Close();
    catch { }
    results = null;
    catch (Exception ex)
    throw ex;
    Any help would highly be appreciated. Thanks.

    use this code, save the byte array into format of pdf
    public static byte[] ExportReportInPDF(ReportViewer ReportViewerCompetency)
    Warning[] warnings;
    string[] streamids;
    string mimeType;
    string encoding;
    string filenameExtension;
    byte[] bytes;
    if (ReportViewerCompetency.ProcessingMode == ProcessingMode.Local)
    bytes = ReportViewerCompetency.LocalReport.Render("PDF", null, out mimeType,
    out encoding, out filenameExtension, out streamids, out warnings);
    else
    bytes = ReportViewerCompetency.ServerReport.Render("PDF", null, out mimeType,
    out encoding, out filenameExtension, out streamids, out warnings);
    return bytes;

  • Is there a way to have autogenerated columns in SSRS Report without declaring the column defination at design time.

    I just have a procedure in which i do have a dynamic query.It has certain parameter on the basis of which different set of columns will be returned in the result set. Now I want a SSRS report which can automatically pick up the columns from the Procedure
    result.without declaring column Names at Design Time(As i don't know which columns will come in the result set)
    PS:- I can't make separate matrix/table with their respective column names and show/hide them as I don't know which columns will come from procedure.
    Thanks
    Kanwar

    Can you please give a reference.I want a matrix or table to display the result set as is returned from the procedure.(Lets just say you keep the columns fixed).How without writing the column Names in table/matrix it automatically generates
    the columns similar to resultset.
    A bit of background for Understanding scenario:
    We want to give users the column names, arithmetic operators,etc.(From UI) and then send the query to SSRS. This query will be sent to SQL procedure(which is being used in RDL).What after that ??? . SSRS is not changing the result set dynamically.So as the
    result set is not definite i want table/matrix to populate the data returned from procedure automatically (without defining columns at design - time).
    Thanks
