Send image to Photoshop

Is it possible to use PhotoshopSDK in my application to have a one button click to send the output images from my program to Adobe Photoshop ? I can save the images as jpg, BMP, TIFF.
Also, is it possible to have my application open from Photoshop ?

Listener plugins are your best friend here. Just as Chris has suggested, start with using scripting only: copy $PS\Scripting\Utilities\ScriptListener.8li into your plugins folder, run PS and try manually performing the operations you'd like to automate (i.e. open a PSD, open a file, select a layer, cut-n-paste it into your PSD file etc). When done, examine the log file - hopefully it will contain all the operations recorded for you; you can modify it (e.g. to use parameters rather than hard-coded values) and use it in your application. If for whatever reason its not enough and you need PS to do more than what scripting supports, writing an automation plugin as a helper is your next option (compile automation listeners first - you'll find all the documentation with the SDK). But again, I'd recommend starting with the scripting first - you are very likely to be able to do all or most of what you need using just that. Google 'Photoshop scripting' for more info.

  • How to keep lens corrections when sending images to Photoshop?

I have a group of architectural photos shot in RAW format with a 10-20mm lens that I have applied lens corrections to in Lightroom 3.  When I open them in Photoshop using Bridge, the lens corrections go away.  I have had the same problem in using Photomatix Pro's batch processing mode to create HDR images.  If I select the trio of images from the filmstrip in Lightroom, right-click on them and then export them to Photomatix, the lens corrections stay, but if I close Lightroom and use Photomatix Pro's batch processing mode to select and process the images, then the corrections go away.  Any ideas?

Lens correction is a function of acr, and LR communicates such settings with PS CS5 and above.  If you are on CS4, in order to keep them, LR must render them before sending on.
The same reason you can't do batch processing from Photomatix, they don't understand LR processing without the current ACR, which is only compatible with LR3 and PS5 (and, one assumes, higher).  So when you export from LR, LR does the processing for you before sending on.. so you keep your changes.
Same if you have CS4 or lower, LR would do the rendering for you.
Does that make sense to you?
    Cheers!

  • Aperture 3 - Can't send images to Photoshop CS3

When ever I try to edit images within Aperture 3 using photoshop CS3 I get the following message: *Editing Error This image cannot be rendered for editing because Aperture does not support the image format.*
So far I have updated Aperture to 3.0.1, I have tried 32 and 64 bit, I have tried Tiff and PSD - 8 and 16 bit. Reinstalled Aperture and Photoshop, repaired and rebuild the database, but I still get the Editing Error.
The images are JPEG's and Raws, which have been imported from Aperture 2.
Thanks for your time. Please Help......

Curious. I have no problem whatsoever when in Aperture I choose to use Photoshop CS3 as an external editor.
    Works without issue.
Am not sure what you may be encountering, but be assured that it does work fine for me.
    So, don't give up.

  • Can't send image to Photoshop.

    Hi, All.
I have done this successfully before in Lightroom 3 but it is not working in Lightroom 4.
As I work on some of my images in Lightroom there are some I have tried to edit in Photoshop but the images won't open. I am running Photoshop CS6. As I right click on an image and click on edit in Photohosp the application will open (Photoshop CS6, that is) but the image won't.
Just another piece of information that may be helpful. I also work with NIK Software's Viveza 2 as another external editor and this one works just fine. I can click on an image, select Viveza 2 as the external editor and the image will open in that application without any problem.
Is there something I am doing wrong or something that has changed in version 4?
Any ideas as to why this is happening?
    TIA.

I had this problem on windows. You must run Lightroom as administrator - even if the account you are in has administrator priviliges.
Test if this is the problem you are having  by opening lightroom in administrator mode:
Open Windows explorer and navigate to where the lightroom.exe file is located.
    Usualy in  C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4.4
Right click on lightroom.exe and select "Run as administrator" from the pop up menu.
Test by selecting a photo and selecting the "Edit in Adobe photoshop CS6" option.
If this works then close lightroom and go back to the "lightroom.exe" folder location,
rightclick on the lightroom.exe file but select "properties", then select the "compatibility" tab and
select "change settings for all users" button.
A box called  compatibility for all users should appear, at the bottom there is a checkbox "privilige level"
make sure the "run this program as administrator is checked".
    Close lightroom and reopen it.
My Lightroom was opening .jpg and .tiff fine in photoshop but not RAW ( Nikon .nef in my case) files.
Also was opening multiple images fine in an external editor( Microsoft ICE).
    Hope this helps.

  • How do I add an alt tag to an image in Photoshop CS5 so that it is web ready?

How do I add an alt tag to an image in Photoshop CS5 so that it is web ready?  My web developer wants me to send him all of my images with an alt-tag assigned so that he can automate the ADA accessibility of the website. I know when I choose to "Save for Web & Devices," I have the option of how much metadata I want to include to the levels of : None, Copyright, Copyright and Contact Info, All Except Camera Info, All.  I don't want the audience to be able to view all of the metadata because a lot of it is sensitive with administrative notes.  Any ideas?

To anyone else who may encounter this issue in the future, here is a work around:
    File > File Info:
Sacrifice a metadata field in the description tab.  I chose document title and description. Click OK.
File > Save for Web and Devices:
    Choose to save All Metadata.
Leave things here on your end, and have the web-developer map the code to display only the appropriate metadata field.

  • Why does Aperture crash when importing modified image into Photoshop CS2?

I have been using Aperture 2.1.4 for the past 2 years and really like the interface. But, I've had one nagging problem: I begin by scanning all of my slides with the Nikon Coolscan 4000 and save them as large tiff files @ approx. 55mb each. I then import each slide with a custom color profile into Aperture. I then optimize the image including white balance, levels, and color adjustments. When I want to make additional changes that I'm not able to do in Aperture, I attempt to send the image to Photoshop CS2 for further processing. But, at this point, Aperture crashes. After this, I get a message saying "do you want to re-open Aperture or quit?" Additionally, I often get the message "Aperture has applied new settings. Do want to keep these new settings or use the original settings?" Since I don't know what will happen if I choose "use the new settings," I always select "keep the original settings." And, when I open Aperture again and try, again, to send the image to Photoshop CS2 to edit, Aperture crashes again. Has anyone had the same or similar problem who can give me some ideas of how to solve this issue! Thanks.

    Welcome to the forums!
It sounds like there may be a permissions issue between the two apps, Aperture using one and PS another.
    1. Are you logged in as an administrator?
    You need to be.
    2. Where is your library stored, is it in the picture folder of your user directory?
If so moving it in to the general area of your MacHD may help get over some of these issues.
    3. Have you run any of the Ap First Aid steps? Have a read of this page;
    Ap2
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2945
    Ap3
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3805
    4. Is it possible that the upgrade to Ap3 would get you around the need to jump into PS?
Start with these ones and then come back letting us know how you go.

  • Unable to save images from photoshop

Using the external editor linked to Photoshop CC 2014, images from Aperture show up in Photoshop for editing.  But after making changes, and saving the file, Aperture doesn't get updated for any of the changes I made in PS. Any suggestions on how to get edited images back into Aperture? (I am using Mac version 10.9.5 and Aperture 3.5.1)

    Your assumption is correct.
    The workflow is:
Select Image in Aperture for external editing.
Send Image to external editor via one version of Aperture's "Edit with NameOfExternalEditor" command.
Aperture creates a new Original based on the selected Image and opens specified external editor with the Original loaded.
You make changes to this file in the external editor.
You close this file and select "Save Changes" (or similar) when prompted.
You return to Aperture and find an Image based on the newly-created Original selected.  This Image shows the changes you made in the external editor.  It is badged with Aperture "Edited externally" badge.
Let's check a couple of things:
    - Are you showing all Images in the Aperture Browser?
    - Are there any externally-edited Images in the Project after you have completed editing in Photoshop?
For the first, clear any filter you have set for the Browser by clicking the dark-on-light drop-down magnifying glass icon _in_ the Browser search field and selecting "Show All".
For the second, filter for externally edited Images by clicking the dark-on-light magnifying glass icon _next to_ the Browser search field and setting a filter with the Rule "File Type" set to "is", "externally edited".
    Report back.

  • How to save images from Photoshop to Lightroom 5.4?

I edit images in Photoshop CC, save and I don't see the images in Lightroom. This started happening when I upgraded to version 5.4. I've glanced at other threads that spoke to the same issue and I've tried all of the suggestions to no avail. Any help would be appreciated.

Don't know if this is because I am using IMAP to connect to gmail so it doesn't really see them (but seems to work with other pictures emailed to me) or whether it is due to the iPhone 'embedding' the images rather than attaching them?
Photos sent as true attachments to the message are not embedded with the iPhone's Mail client. Photos sent as true attachments are displayed inline or viewed in place within the body of the message, which is not the same as being embedded.
Doing this with an email client on your computer, there should be nothing special or different with the photos emailed by your iPhone with your Gmail account. I regularly send photos with my MobileMe account from my iPhone, and I can save the photos sent with my MobileMe account from the account's server stored Sent mailbox with the Mail.app on my Mac. I haven't tried to save all photos sent from every sent message in my account's Sent mailbox in bulk, but the photos are sent as true attachments to the message.

  • Lightroom won't open an image in Photoshop CS2

I have Photoshop 1.1 on a PC running Windows XP. I can't open a Lightroom image in Photoshop CS2 through the "photo" menu because the menu selection to open an image in Photoshop is dimmed. Also in "Preferences" in the "external editors" tab it says "Photoshop not found." My Photoshop is on the same drive as Lightroom. Am I wrong in assuming LR should open an image in CS2?
In a related matter I opened a Photoshop customer support case about this, but did not receive a reply. Is this typical of Adobe? Isn't this the kind of question they should answer even without a paid support plan?

    Richard,
What I did when faced with a similar situation was to go to Control Panel, and select Add or Remove Programs, then select Uninstall or Change for Adobe Photoshop CS2, then when prompted whether to Uninstall or Repair, choose Repair. This will fixup all the registry entries that appare to be missing from your system.
    Works for me at least.

  • Can't open raw images in Photoshop Elements 9

I've just finished doing a fresh install of Windows 7 x64 SP1 onto my desktop PC.  I installed Photoshop Elements 9 but it can't open any raw images (specifically Canon .CR2).  When I open one of the same images with Photoshop CS5.1, it properly opens up the image in Camera Raw (6.6), allows me to pre-process the image, then edits it in Photoshop (as you would expect).
Before installing Photoshop, I did manually install Adobe Camera Raw 6.2, then upgrade it (multiple steps) up to the current v6.6.
I also copied the Camera Raw.8bi into the Plug-Ins\File Formats sub-directory of both C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Elements 9 Organizer and C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 9 but there was no change of behavior with Photoshop Elements 9.
This was working prior to the re-install of Windows 7.
Any suggestions on how to get this working?  Thank you, in advance.

When I to to Help>Update, it offers to update Photoshop Elements to v9.0.3 but no mention is made of Camera Raw (any version).  I'm not even sure how to determine what version it thinks is installed since there's no reference to Adobe Camera Raw in the Windows 7 Programs and Feature Control Panel applet.
    Suggestions?

  • Opening raw images in Photoshop Elements 9

When opening raw images in Photoshop Elements 9 (File -> Open or File -> Open As), the Adobe Camera Raw dialog do not open.
Instead I get a window with a progress bar and the text "Reading Camera Raw Format".
The image then opens in the Photoshop Elements editor.
I have tested this with raw images both from Canon EOS 1000D and Samsung WB2000 cameras.
I would appreciate any suggestions on how to solve this issue.
I run Photoshop Elements on a HP netbook running Widows XP and with an Intel Atom N450 / 1.66 GHz processor, 2 GB ram and a screen resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels.

Unfortunately you can't see the raw converter in PSE 9 on screens less than 800 px tall, which means not on netbooks. PSE will automatically convert it for you, but that dialog box and a few others, like the Advanced Downloader window, will not appear.

  • Lightroom 5.4 jumps to second monitor when attempting to edit an image in Photoshop CS 6.

    Hello,
I have a brand-new HP z620 with an Nvidia Quadro K 4000 display adapter and apparently a software and/or hardware conflict.
I am experiencing an issue with Lightroom 5.4 window not working correctly with my second, not primary, monitor. When Lightroom is working on the second monitor and I need to edit an image in Photoshop cs6, I want Lightroom stay where it is and Photoshop to open on my primary monitor. And this has worked well for me on my previous system which was also a Windows 7 64-bit machine with an Nvidia GeForce GTX 570.
When I click the Lightroom option to "edit in Photoshop CS 6” The Lightroom window will move itself to the primary monitor for no apparent reason. This is the problem I am seeking to remedy.
No other external editing programs opened through LR behaves this way, such as NIK or OnOne Perfect Photo Suite, and I really need LR to stay on the second monitor on the extended desktop.
I’ve tried every monitor cabling setup I could think of to try and even unplugging the primary to make windows identify it as the 2 monitor in the screen resolution settings, but that does nothing for me. My new workstation is running the same OS version and a K4000. Monitors are currently connected to the display ports via dp to dvi adapters. I’ve already tried moving the connections around and plugging one into dvi, there doesn’t seem to be a setting I can change within windows or adobe to change this behavior.”
On a related note, I have similar instability in software made by X-rite that supports the use of a colorimeter allowing me to build profiles for monitors and evaluate colors precisely. During the profiling process I place the colorimeter in the designated place on the secondary monitor and direct the application to begin showing the colorimeter different colors on that monitor. At this point the colors jump to the primary monitor while the rest of the interface along with the colorimeter is a secondary monitor. I have a workaround that I'm using for this particular problem but I am fairly sure that the issue that causes the problem with Lightroom is also the source of my trouble here and I need to eliminate it.
    thanks for your time,
    Larry Garvey

  • I am unable to edit an image in Photoshop.

I just installed Lightroom 5.3, and I have Photoshop CS5.1 installed. The problem is that I am unable to edit an image in Photoshop. When I click Photo>Edit In, the option for Photoshop is not active (i.e., it's not black), so I can't click on it. Why are the options for Photoshop and all of the other Photoshop related options, such as Merge to Panorama, etc., not active? In Preferences I have the following settings: File Format = TIFF; Color Space = ProPhotoRGB; Bit Depth = 16 bits; Resolution = 240; Compression = None. I am using Windows 7.

    Chris:
I have to apologize for being misleading on my request for help in
    resolving the problem.
Actually the version I am using is CS2 not CS3.
Yesterday I tried numerous times, and ways, to edit an image and each time
it refused to allow me to save it.
The software program just shut down. This evening when I decided to give it
    another try it worked perfect.
Guess the program just took the day off.
Thank you for offering to help

I need your help with a decision to use iPhoto.  I have been a PC user since the mid 1980’s and more recently have used ACDSee to manage my photo images and Photoshop to edit them.  I have used ProShow Gold to create slideshows.  I am comfortable with my own folder and file naming conventions. I currently have over 23,000 images of which around 60% are scans going back 75 years.  Since I keep a copy of the originals, the storage requirements for over 46,000 images is huge.  180GB plus.
I now have a Macbook Pro and will add an iMac when the new models arrive.  For my photos, I want to stay with Photoshop which also gives me the Bridge.  The only obvious reason to use iPhoto is to take advantage of Faces and the link to iMovie to make slideshows.  What am I missing and is using iPhoto worth the effort?
If I choose to use iPhoto, I am not certain whether I need to load the originals and the edited versions. I suspect that just the latter is sufficient.  If I set PhotoShop as my external editor, I presume that iPhoto will keep track of all changes moving forward.  However, over 23,000 images in iPhoto makes me twitchy and they are appear hidden within iPhoto.  In the past, I have experienced syncing problems with, and database errors in, large databases.  If I break up the images into a number of projects, I loose the value of Faces reaching back over time.
Some guidance and insight would be appreciated.  I have a number of Faces questions which I will save for later.

Bridge and Photoshop is a common file-based management system. (Not sure why you'd have used ACDSEE as well as Bridge.) In any event, it's on the way out. You won't be using it in 5 years time.
Up to this the lack of processing power on your computer left no choice but to organise this way. But file based organisation is as sensible as organising a Shoe Warehouse based on the colour of the boxes. It's also ultimately data-destructive.
Modern systems are Database driven. Files are managed, Images imported, virtual versions, lossless processing and unlimited editing are the way forward.
For a Photographer Photoshop is overkill. It's an enormously powerful app, a staple of the Graphic Designers' trade. A Photographer uses maybe 15% to 20% of its capability.
Apps like iPhoto, Lightroom, Aperture are the way forward - for photographers. There's the 20% of Photoshop that shooters actually use, coupled with management and lossless processing. Pop over to the Aperture or Lightroom forums (on the Adobe site) and one comment shows up over and over again... "Since I started using Aperture/ Lightroom I hardly ever use Photoshop any more..." and if there is a job that these apps can do, then the (much) cheaper Elements will do it.
The change is not easy though, especially if you have a long-standing and well thought out filing system of your own. The first thing I would strongly advise is that you experiment before making any decisions. So I would create a Library, import 300 or 400 shots and play. You might as well do this in iPhoto to begin with - though if you’re a serious hobbyist or a Pro then you'll find yourself looking further afield pretty soon. iPhoto is good for the family snapper, taking shots at birthdays and sharing them with friends and family.
Next: If you're going to successfully use these apps you need to make a leap: Your files are not your Photos.
The illustration I use is as follows: In my iTunes Library I have a file called 'Let_it_Be_The_Beatles.mp3'. So what is that, exactly? It's not the song. The Beatles never wrote an mp3. They wrote a tune and lyrics. They recorded it and a copy of that recording is stored in the mp3 file. So the file is just a container for the recording. That container is designed in a specific way attuned to the characteristics and requirements of the data. Hence, mp3.
Similarly, that Jpeg is not your photo, it's a container designed to hold that kind of data. iPhoto is all about the data and not about the container. So, regardless of where you choose to store the file, iPhoto will manage the photo, edit the photo, add metadata to the Photo but never touch the file. If you choose to export - unless you specifically choose to export the original - iPhoto will export the Photo into a new container - a new file containing the photo.
When you process an image in iPhoto the file is never touched, instead your decisions are recorded in the database. When you view the image then the Master is presented with these decisions applied to it. That's why it's lossless. You can also have multiple versions and waste no disk space because they are all just listings in the database.
These apps replace the Finder (File Browser) for managing your Photos. They become the Go-To app for anything to do with your photos. They replace Bridge too as they become a front-end for Photoshop.
So, want to use a photo for something - Export it. Choose the format, size and quality you want and there it is. If you're emailing, uploading to websites then these apps have a "good enough for most things" version called the Preview - this will be missing some metadata.
So it's a big change from a file-based to Photo-based management, from editing files to processing Photos and it's worth thinking it through before you decide.

  • Unable to load TIF images into Photoshop.

    CS4 (11.0.2) and Windows 7 Home Edition.
Have developed a problem trying to load some TIF images into Photoshop. I have a large number of images archived over a decade or more. At this point it may some of the older files that exhibit the problem. Now all these files were edited and stored using the Photoshop versions during the complete time period. The files are always saved with no compression. Have tried to load from Photoshop and clicking on the file in a file list. Photoshop just hangs and I get the message Program not responding. I can take these same files and load them into the ROXIO photo editor with no problem. Stranger yet is if I simply load the file into the ROXIO editor then "save as" back into the same folder (overwrite) the file can then be brought into Photoshop with no problem! Any ideas?

    Noel,
    Will try to keep short.
I reinstalled Photoshop CS4 from the cd CS set. Did not uninstall first. Restarted PC and Photoshop. Still failed the same way with a 3001 image.
Did the following, changing one item in the Edit->Preference->GPU Setting. After each change, closed Photoshop, reopened, brought in 3001 image, restored original setting. 3001 failed each time.
    * Unchecked Enable OpenGL Drawing
    * Advanced setup: Unchecked Advanced Drawing.
    * Advanced setup: Unchecked Color Matching
Next went to the Edit->Color Profile.
Scanned thru options and saw in the Convert Options: Engine. It was set to Adobe (ACE). ACE was the module name in the error detail!
Only other option for this is Microsoft ICM. Changed to that, close/open Photoshop and 3001 came in no problem. So did the Nikon 3000, srgb IEC 61922 2.1 and Untagged. However, when briging in an Adobe RGB(1998) image Photoshop notes Profile Mismatch. It allows me to decide what to do (use embedded profile instead of workspace; convert color to work space color; discard embedded profile. and I choose use the convert color and it loads ok. At least it loads the image! Will use this approach for now. I need to get educated on color profiles!!
