Sending a message to someone who used to have an iPhone
I have sent some messages to someone who used to have an iPhone (and to whom I used to send iMessages) but who has now switched to an android device but the contact number has stayed the same. I notice that when I send a text now it is going as an iMessage (message in blue). I assume that the recipient is not receiving these. Is that correct? How do I send the contact a regular text message at this point?

You tell them to sign out of iMessage

I just got an Ipad2 and can not figure out why I can't send a message to someone who does not have an apple product. I can from my iPhone. When I enter there name it is shown in red with an ! Behind it and the word send does not light up.
You can text this person from your iPhone because you are using SMS over the voice cell network. There is no access to the voice cell network on the iPad, even if you have the WiFi+3G model.
There are some apps, such as TextFree, that will let you do this. -
I'm from the uk and I'm trying to send a message to someone who lives in the US, however it does not recognise that they have an iPhone so it won't send as an iMessage, any solutions?

Why can't i send text messages to those who don't have apple products?
I am unable to send text messages to those who don't have apple products. Can someone help with how to do this? I know imessages don't work to them, but I should still be able to text them. Help?
Hi there!
If you want to send text messages on your iPad, you may be talking about the recent Continuity Feature. To do this you will also need an iPhone connected to the same wi-fi network.
On your iPhone:
Go to Settings
Then to Messages
Then 'Text Message Forwarding'
Turn on the device you want to send a text message, in your case your iPad.
Your phone should ask a code that it sent to your iPad. In the box type in the code that shows up on your iPad and press Allow.
You should be good to go. -
How do you get your iPhone to stop connecting to face time while on a voice call? And it also does this when I'm on the phone with someone who doesn't have an iPhone. I look down at my phone while on a call and it says connecting to face time
How are you dialing these calls?

How to text to someone who doesn't have an iphone
how do you text someone who doesn't have an iphone
Make sure your cellular service includes SMS messaging. Also make sure the person you are trying to text has an account with SMS messaging. As long as both have this service just use the Messages app and send the message to the individuals phone number.

Can my IPod 4th generation send messages to people who don't have an IPhone or IPod?
I have updated my IPod and it isn't letting me send messages to other people who dont have an Apple Product. Why is that happening? Also my facetime isn't working. Why is that?
iMessage allows you to send unlimited text, photos, videos, locations, and contacts using Wi-Fi or 3G* from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to other iOS 5 users. "

My iPhone is sending iMessages to someone who doesn't have an iPhone.
My friend's iPhone 4 was stolen two days ago. We're on the same plan. He activated his old non-iPhone to use in the meantime but my iPhone 4 keeps sending iMessages to him... which he's not receiving. I can turn off iMessages from the settings menu but then all my other iPhone pals will be getting texts from me instead of iMessages. I tried deleting him as a contact and then making a new one under his nickname thinking I could trick the phone into resetting it but it doesn't work... it still tries to send iMessages to him. Is there any way around this or am I just stuck until he gets another iPhone?
I just had this problem. I found this solution on a discussion board and it seems to have fixed the issue:
"So I finally realized (by accident) that you can tap on the text message you just sent, (the blue bubble imessage) and it'll ask "copy" or "send as sms"...and I chose send as sms.
After doing this about 5-6 times, it stopped automatically sending him imessages and started automatically sending him SMS messages instead!" -
Suggestions?
If you are using imessages that only works across other ios devices. You cant use it to text or recieve from non ios devices.

I have a coworker who used to have an iPhone. Every time I message him, it trys to send as imessage and fails. Then I have to tap the ! and choose send as text.
I've delted the entire text string. I've completely removed him from my address book and re-added him. How do I tell the iPhone to always send messages to him as a text?
ThanksSeems like your doing a lot of leg work for your friend.
Use the search function at the top right of the forum - this topic has been brouight up in many threads.
He/She would deregister their iphone from the apple server.. Sorry don't know the link or website. -
Here's the problem: I am often in a building which has free wifi but the wifi requires that you accept the terms of use during every browsing session. If I receive a text message from someone who is also using iOS5, the phone seems to default to wi-fi to send my response. If I have not yet accepted the terms of use for the building's wi-fi, my phone wont send the text message response. I don't know if that is because the phone is connected to a wifi signal albeit one that can't yet access the internet. For whatever reason, the phone is just trapped in a "sending messge" loop and wont break out of it until I open my browser and accept the terms of use. This is the situation notwithstanding the fact that I have 3g service and the signal is available to send sms/mms.
Can anyone offer a suggestion other than disabling wi-fi?
Thanks.Thank you for your reply. I looked at my settings and the phone has been set on "send as SMS"--but for some reason, the phone is continuing to try to send it over wifi despite the lack of an internet connection on wifi. It would seem that after a minute or more of trying, the phone would recognize that wifi wasnt available and would send it on SMS but it apparently doesnt. I can, of course, turn off iMessage but I dont like the idea of having to do that everytime---particularly since an increasing number of my contacts are using iOS5 devices.
Thanks again for your response but it does seem that there is an issue that needs to be addressed. -
When I send a message to someone it shows a +1 on their end...what does this mean. It looks like I have sent the message to more than one person.
That's a country code. Are you sending it to someone outside of the US or who is using a foreign carrier? Their carrier is prefixing the phone number with the country code for your phone number.

How can I send a message to multiple contacts using "groups".
How can I send a message to multiple contacts using "groups".
It was easy on my sony ericssonn....do i need to download an app? There is no group send option like you are looking for.
To send to a group you have to pick each person you want to send to and send as a group that way. Then don't delete that SMS thread and you can reuse it again later.
As for an app, well SMS works via your carrier and the OS, not something an App can do unless the app send the data to them (a third party) and then they relay it to the carrier. Do you really want to be sending your SMS to some 3rd party first?
