Sending a string across a network

hi java friends!
i am a pretty good programmer but i know nothing about java and networking
for a final project for AP Computer science i would like to make a network gamed. If i can get the basic code for sending a string across the network i can figure out the rest.
SOOOOOOO
my question is, can someone give me the code, or at least point me on the way to sending a string across a network?
Thanks

  • Sending Video over the wireless network

    I am considering capturing images from a IEEE 1394 camera and sending it over the Wireless network to another computer.  The reason we want to do that is to make the
    camera device light and portable by connecting it to a portable tablet computer.
    What kind of protocol is the best way to transfer the image. The TCP or UDP in labview convert data into string before the transmission which are very inefficient. I just want to streaming the raw image data, maybe with some protocol overhead.  Did National Instrument has any package to do that or any other software packages available?
    There might be another solution is to use the Ethernet cameras instead of 1394 cameras.
    Would it be possible for the Labview application on a remote desktop computer to acquire the Ethernet camera over a WiFi wireless connnetction in between ?
    Thanks
    Cindy

    Hello Cindy,
    If you want to transfer data across a
    network, TCP would be the most efficient method (wireless is typically not as
    successful as Ethernet due to the overhead).  There is actually a very useful knowledgebase
    document that discusses the various methods used to transfer image data across
    a network.  If you go to our main site http://www.ni.com and search using the keywords “Images
    Over Network”, the first link is entitled Streaming
    IMAQ Images Over a Network (or Internet) which gives brief descriptions if
    you choose to use TCP/IP, Datasocket, LabVIEW web server, or ActiveX.  Another very informative document results in
    that same search and is titled Transfer Images Over the Network
    which actually gives examples
    illustrating different ways to send images.  I hope this helps.  Please let us know if you would like further
    clarification or assistance regarding this issue.Vu D

  • Clone disks across a network

    Hi,
    Just want to know if there is a way that I could clone 2 disks, one being a mirror onto 2 other disk on a different server, all disks are the same and the OS Solaris 10?
    My thought is that I would need to break the mirror remove one disk and replace and clone it with dd or dump
    ie. dd if=/dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s2 of=/dev/dsk/c0t1d0s2 Bs=128k
    The reason being that the system is a production system and can not be down for more then a hour and I need more information to suppy the powers that be that it will take a longer time.
    Given that I need to duplicate the disks onto the other server I won't to be sure that there is
    1. no way to do this across the LAN
    2. no way with out being in single user mode
    3. no way faster then a disk clone one the same system
    Any help would be great
    Thanks

    David,
    I found the answer right after sending my question.  If two user's label names don't match, the color-coding won't work. If they do match, the color-coding works across a network from user to user -- i.e. - I originally renamed my green label as "Copyright Okayed", but I only renamed it on my computer while all other computers still had the green label named as it's default, "Approved".  As soon as I went onto the other computers and changed the green label name to "Copyright Okayed" in the Preferences, the color-coding worked.

  • How do I send a string to tcpdump or netramet from my gui?

    I am doing a project which involves creating a network monitoring console and my problem is that I want to send a string (which is created from the GUI) to tcpdump or netramet which will cause tcpdump to run my desired option.

    Perhaps Runtime.exec()? Or use JNI.

  • How can I send multiple string commands into a VISA write?

    Hi Fellow LabVIEW users
    I am very new to LabVIEW (2.5 months) so please forgive me if my lingo is not up to par.
    How can I send multiple string commands to a VISA write. For example each string command looks like this
    1) 3A00 0000 0000 FFFF FFFF FFFF 0000 0000 FF00 0000 0000 0000 0000 0033 (Scenario 1)
    2) 3A01 0000 0000 FFFF FFFF FFFF 0000 0000 FF00 0000 0000 0000 0000 0034 (Scenario 2)
    3) 3A01 0000 0000 33FF FFFF FFFF 0000 0000 FF00 0000 0000 0000 0000 0067 (Scenario 3).
    and so on and so forth. And there are a number of scenarios.
    Each String scenario will give a different string output which will be interpreted differently in the front panel.
    Right now I have to manually change the string commands on the front panel to give me the desired output. How can I do this without manually changing the commands i.e. hard coding each scenario into the block diagram?
    Thanks, any feedback will help.

  • Lightroom across the network, is there ANY way?

    We have to process large catalogs with 8000 plus images and are under a time limit of about a week tp process them ...usually.
    We put the catalog on one PC we call the Master and would like to be able to have other staff work on the catalog from one of the other PC's on the network. We have 12 PC's on a peer to peer network ( no server) and I need to split up the load and have several people working on it at once. I need to be able to open a catalog from another PC, while several other people are doing the same thing on different parts of the catalog so I can get these jobs out the door without one person or PC managing the whole job.
    We don't put it on an external hard drive and move from one PC to another, that still defeats the purpose.
    So far LR says it cannot work across a network, so I can't open a catalog from a laptop and work on the project from home ( for example) and I don;'t want to be duplicating all 8000 images on all the PC's so we are at a point where I need to ask for help...
    Right now I export part of the master catalog to anoter PC with the oiginal images copied to the second PC, make my edits and Export back to the Master PC in a subfolder by the dancers name. Slow, but it does work. I would rather not have to do that on multiple machines to speed up the project.
    Isn't there some way I can open the master catalog form another PC on the network, make the corrections and do the export right there?
    Thanks everyone - any help is appreciated!

    No.
    There are risky workarounds that allow you to open a catalog that's on the network, but none that allow multiple users to access the same catalog.  Any such workaround is a sure-fire way to corrupt the whole thing.

    I cannot seem to get all of my music shared across the network from my MacBook Pro to my iPad. This was not an issue a few days ago. I can see all my songs if sorted that way, but if i sort by artist, only a few of them are present. Can anyone help or have any insight?

    Well I didn't think of it before, but I logged out of my apple ID othe iPad's home sharing. The I logged back in and it worked. It's a little weird, but I will take it. Thanks!

  • How to send a String to a Servlet using a HTTP POST

    Well, I have designed a servlet that receives a HTTP POST, I was testing it using an HTML form to send (using POST) information, now, I have coded a Java App to send it a string, I don't know how to make the servlet recognize that info so it can make its work, I am posting both codes (Servlet & API) so anyone can guide me and tell me how and where to modify them
    Servlet:
    import javax.servlet.*;
    import javax.servlet.http.*;
    import java.io.*;
    import java.sql.*;
    public class xmlwriter extends HttpServlet
    public void service(HttpServletRequest req, HttpServletResponse res)
    throws ServletException, IOException
    ServletOutputStream salida = res.getOutputStream();
    res.setContentType("text/HTML");
    String cadena = req.getParameter("cadena");
    File f1 = new File ("c:/salida.xml");
    FileWriter out = new FileWriter(f1);
    f1.createNewFile();
    out.write(cadena);
    out.close();
    salida.println("OK");
    Now, the JAVA API is:
    import java.io.*;
    import java.net.*;
    public class HTTPSender {
    public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {
    URL url1 = new URL
    ("http://localhost:8080/XMLSender/xmlwriter");//internal site
    URLConnection UrlConnObj1 = url1.openConnection();
    HttpURLConnection huc1 = (HttpURLConnection)UrlConnObj1;
    huc1.setRequestMethod("POST");
    huc1.setDoOutput(true);
    huc1.setDoInput(true);
    huc1.setUseCaches(false);
    huc1.setDefaultUseCaches(false);
    String cadena = ""
    + "<root>\n"
    + "<tlf>$TLF$</tlf>\n"
    + "<op>$OP$</op>\n"
    + "<sc>$SC$</sc>\n"
    + "<body>$BODY$</body>\n"
    + "</root>";
         PrintWriter out = new PrintWriter(huc1.getOutputStream());
    System.out.println("string="+cadena);
    out.write(cadena);
    out.close();
    I'm a JAVA newbie, so, maybe I'm getting a bad idea of what I need to do, anyway, every (detailed) help is welcome. What my servlet should do (and it doesn't when I send the message through the API) is to write a file with the info received.

    I'm not trying to send a string from a WEB Page, I'm tryring to send it using a JAVA program, I mean, using a HTTPSender, in fact, I already have made the code to do that:
    import java.io.*;
    import java.net.*;
    public class HTTPSender {
    public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {
    try {
    String cadena = "Message to be written";
    // Send data
    URL url = new URL("http://localhost:8080/XMLSender/xmlwriter");
    URLConnection conn = url.openConnection();
    conn.setDoOutput(true);
    OutputStreamWriter wr = new OutputStreamWriter(conn.getOutputStream());
    wr.write(cadena);
    wr.flush();
    // Get the response
    BufferedReader rd = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(conn.getInputStream()));
    String line;
    while ((line = rd.readLine()) != null) {
    // Process line...
    wr.close();
    rd.close();
    } catch (Exception e) {
    And modified my servlet so it can receive anything:
    import javax.servlet.*;
    import javax.servlet.http.*;
    import java.io.*;
    import java.sql.*;
    public class xmlwriter extends HttpServlet
    public void service(HttpServletRequest req, HttpServletResponse res)
    throws ServletException, IOException
    ServletOutputStream salida = res.getOutputStream();
    res.setContentType("text/HTML");
    String cadena = req.toString();
    File f1 = new File ("c:/salida.xml");
    FileWriter out = new FileWriter(f1);
    f1.createNewFile();
    out.write(cadena);
    out.close();
    salida.println("OK");
    Now the problem is that, the servlet in fact DOES create the file, but....the file is empty, that means that no info is arriving to the servlet, why?, how should I send it then? I repeat FORGET about a Web Page Form, that is in the past and I don't need that.

  • HTTP transport error: javax.xml.soap.SOAPException: java.security.PrivilegedActionException: javax.xml.soap.SOAPException: Message send failed: String index out of range: -7

    All -
    I'm new to consuming web services in JDeveloper. I'm using Oracle JDEV 10.1.3.3/OC4J.  I'm using this version since it is compatible with Oracle EBS 12.1.3.  My intent is to pull data from our third party recruitment app (Success Factors) and load that data into Oracle HRIS.  I'm already doing this through a .NET application.  I'm converting it to be a Java Concurrent Program in EBS.  The code listed below is a stub call to verify I'm on the right track. I created a JDeveloper Web Services proxy project.  I'm testing it locally on my windows desktop.  When I'm able to consume the service successfully, then I'll think about moving it to the EBS server.
    I'm getting the following error when I invoke the following service:
    HTTP transport error: javax.xml.soap.SOAPException: java.security.PrivilegedActionException: javax.xml.soap.SOAPException: Message send failed: String index out of range: -7
    End point is: https://api4.successfactors.com/sfapi/v1/soap?wsdl

    The other end is throwing back a programming error.
    That might be because you are sending incorrect data and the other end fails to validate it.
    You might be able to guess based on your C# code.  But, since you are using soap one generic solution is available to you.
    - Get an http proxy interceptor like wireshark.
    - Run it while your C# app runs, collect the http requests from that.
    - Run it while running your java code, collect the http requests from that.
    Compare the two.

  • Saving PDF's across a network - problem files.

    We have a local network of about 15 users.  Seemingly out of the blue, a user will run into an issue saving or moving a PDF across the network.  It takes much longer than normal for the save to complete (60 second or more) and the user's PC becomes unresponsive, with all network connections going down.  The pdf is created, but is a smaller than normal size.  The pdf cannot be moved, renamed or deleted by any user without locking up that user and eventually jamming the entire network.  So the pdf is apparently corrupt in some way, although it looks normal and become a virtual landmine - any user that clicks on it locks up.  This does not happen all of the time.  We can go for days without any issues and users performing the same basic actions of moving and saving files to difference network locations....then bam! a bad pdf save happens.
    Any ideas?  Is there someone at Adobe who can take a look at one of these "bad" pdf's do some forensics?
    Thank you.

    Hi Mary ,
    Is it happening with any specific user and specific PDF or is the process random?
    Could be possible the PDF is corrupt. I wonder you are able to view the PDF ,if so kindly run and OCR and try optimizing the PDF and see if that helps.
    You can try repairing the Acrobat.
    Launch Acrobat>Navigate to Help>Repair Acrobat Installation
    You can try updating the Acrobat in case you are using any of the older versions.
    Launch Acrobat>Navigate to Help>Check for Updates.

  • Sharing an SD card or USB stick across the network

    Why won't OSX allow me to share a USB drive or SD card across my network? I can plug it into my Mac, go to System Preferences > Sharing, and add the card/stick/whatever as a Shared Folder, but the ' + - ' buttons allowing me to assign users to it are ghosted. Therefore it appears on my local network but it's inaccessible.
    It's not the end of the world but it's not what I expected from "the world's most advanced desktop operating system". In fact it's something a PC could do at least three generations of Windows ago.
    Am I missing something really obvious?
    Thanks

    Try selecting a folder on that USB drive rather then the drive itself.

  • How to share a Drive across a Network

    I have just added an external drive to my G5 system that I need to share across a network as my internal drive which was shared is running low on space.
    How do I make my external drive shareable? Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi, and a warm welcome to the forums!
    Easiest way to share an external HD is with Sharepoints...

    It's just a GUI interface to the OS' functions, but you can also do it in NetInfo Manager with a lot more work & understanding.
