Sending Command Window Output to File

Okay, I'm guessing the "New to Java" is where I need to be for this kind of new programmer question. I'm working on a program for an assignment and I've completed the entire program and going back over the assignment I've realized that my quick reading has really messed me up. I was supposed to output all information to a file. However, I've already made the entire program using string buffers and out.printf / println's.
So my newbie question would be, is there anyway I can code my program to take all the output that has been placed on the screen in the command line window and send it a text file at the close of the program? I know this seems weird but I don't really feel like fooling with debugging my whole program after trying to switch all my outputs to sending to a file.
Can anyone help me? Let me know if you would like to see the code of the program, not sure if it would be helpful or not. And thank you SO much up front. Program is due Tuesday morning at 8am.

Thanks for the answers, I know for the assignment it was a bad idea. I was more going on the lines of a quick fix that might get partial credit. I googled a little bit about what you guys said and the amount of effort I would go through to pass the command line information to a text file seems almost more of a hassle than reprinting all my information to a text file and do my debugging from scratch. Thanks for the quick replies though. Both answers were helpful. Interesting stuff I learned about trying to find a quick fix.
I was kinda hoping there was some kind of method somewhere that would read the contents of the command box and just ship it all to a file for storage. Thought maybe someone had done something like that, but it was a long shot.

You can just not start the Java application from a command window or batch file. The easiest way to do this is to create an executable JAR file which a person (on Windows) can just double-click. Do a search on "executable JAR".

I don't think you can debug your Matlab script from labVIEW. The following webpage talks about this:

My suggestion would be to write a script in Matlab and thoroughly test it before calling the script from a Matlab script node in LabVIEW.

Output jframe information to command window

Hi all I have a program that tracks the assets of a customer, kind of like a cart that holds cds, appliances, etc...
I wanted to be able to print out the results to the command window after they enter the number of how many items from what the user enters after they press "current status" or if they "delete" their current items. I want it to keep doing this until they close the window and exit the program. People have told me to add the System.out.println to where it says "delete" or "current status" but Im not sure how to add it in I will attach the code here. Thanks

I don't understand the question. Are you telling us you don't understand how to use System.out.println(...);? How do you debug programs without using this method?
Usually the first program someone learns to write is something like:
public static void main(String[] args)
    System.out.println("Hello World");
after they press "current status" or if they "delete" their current itemsYou want to do some activity when the above actions occur. You must already have code in your program to do something in the above cases. So simply add the System.out.println(..) statements in the same part of code.

Monitor CPU and send output to file

Hello
I want to monitor my CPU usage and my idea was this:
1. Use Top (/usr/bin/top –n 1|head –n 3| tail –n 1|awk ’{print $2}’)
2. Send output to file
3. crontab it
My problem is now that my top command (see above) works fine in terminal, it will give me a short and clean answer; 10.5%
But when sending this to a file the output looks more like: 10.5%^^8fewfwe[]€]]@£]@£[f9@£[]^^E^Efewfwef23 (Yes i just hit my keyboard but its alot of randoms characters)
How can i fix this?
Do you have any easier solution to monitor my CPU usage, i want it to be quite often, send cpu usage to file for at least every minute, then i can import this to excel and make nice diagram.
I dont want to install any extra program so ill have to work with whats there already. Im using RHEL 4.

A better way to do it is using "sar"

Invoking a call to a window executable fails when request output to file

Hi,
When invoking a call to a window executable it fails(returns 1 instead of 0) when requesting output to file by using "> filename.txt". This nornally works when run directly within a
windows command prompt, and it also works if I don't add the "> filename.txt" at the end. Also instead of outputting to a file I would like the same called executable to output to a memory variable that I can extract data without going to a external text file.

Well, if you ultimately want the output from the process, you don't need to redirect it to a file first. Just read from the standard output of the process. See [url http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/api/java/lang/Process.html#getInputStream()]Process.getInputStream and Process.getErrorStream. You'll need to read from both simultaneously so you'll need to create two threads. You could also use [url http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/api/java/lang/ProcessBuilder.html]ProcessBuilder if you're using Java 1.5

How to redirect standard output/error of a ucb function to matrixx command window

Is there a way to redirect standard output/error of a ucb function to matrixx command window?
I know that the recommended way is to use stdwrt or XmathDisplay commands. However, we have some
libraries that already exists which uses printf calls and I would like to redirect their output
to the matrixx command window.

What you need to do is create a printf function that will print the information into a string, then you can use stdwrt to display it in Xmath.
Then you tell the UCB linking process to compile and link with this version of printf.c
I am including the printf.c that we used to test the function you needed.

Showing output to a command window

Hi Friends
i have an application where i have implemented sockects (server-client) using
client = new Socket(IP,port num); // client
server = new ServerSocket(port num); // server
clientSock = server.accept(); // server
now im sending a SQL query from client to server and at server side i m executing it through jdbc.
i have converted my server socket program to windows service(through some software). So there is no command prompt opened for the Server program.
Now the proiblem is that my requirement is to open a new command window through my server program and show the return result from the query on that window and then close it.
in my server prog i'have writen

but its not getting opened.
if it does also, i dont have a clue how i'll send the data returned from the query to that window..

it???Why does it need to be shown in a command window? Is the user going to interact with the program (or the command window). If all you are doing is displaying a result a dialog is a much better answer. Ask your project management about it. If it is only that they like the way the command window looks (which is the only reason if the user does not need to interact with it) then set the back- and fore- ground colors and the font, so that it looks like the command window, and your good.
If the user does not need to interact with the thing, then your program attempting to interact with a command prompt is only introducing a complication and a requirement that you don't need.
Like I said, ask your project manager if you can use a dialog. It is not only easier, it is much more flexible (and sensible).

Open a command window and send some keystroke to the opened command window

I am trying to open command prompt and send some key stroke to that command prompt. Here I am using Robot to send keystroke. But the problem is, the keystrokes are not sent to the prompt. I guess I need to activate progamitically the command prompt to accept the keystrokes . Please find the code below ( as I did).

No Video when using the "Send To Soundtrack Pro Audio File" Command

Hello FCP Users,
After reading and rereading the FCP and STP manuals and scouring the boards; I still can not figure out how to view my video clip while I'm editing/sweetening audio in STP. I have even used the DVD tutorial in an attempt to figure it out (all works fine and good with the tutorial example), but I'm stuck here the real world.
I'm thinking their must be some preference setting somewhere in STP that I've missed. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

From the Manual:
Soundtrack Pro creates a new audio file project (with the file type .stap) for the clip. The clip can contain video and audio or contain only audio.
In the Final Cut Pro Timeline, Control-click the clip, then choose “Send To >
Soundtrack Pro Audio File Project” from the shortcut menu."

The audio consists of two separate audio tracks A1 is from a lav mic and A2 is from an on-camera mic.
It was captured DV.
If I rt click the video clip in the "video tl" the "Send To Soundtrack Pro Audio File" in the dialog box is grayed out/not available for selection, but the Send To Soundtrack Pro Multitrack Program is available to select.
If I choose to Send To Soundtrack Pro Multitrack Program I get the following an error message: Error sending selection to Soundtrack Pro.
I've tried de-selecting the "linked selection" in the tl and rt click the audio clip in the "audio tl" and that allows me to "Send To Soundtrack Pro Audio File" , but no video in the utility window of STP.

File send command in Word not working - can anyone help?

I've just bought a new macbook air, all is well apart from being able to email docs from word or excel which I do frequently.   When I use the File/Send command, I just get the spinning pinwheel for about 20 secs which then disappears. I then have to go to macmail and add the doc manually.   has anyone else had this problem?

I use the apple script I wrote to set up a terminal session using screen. You need to be sure the baud rate is the same as the cisco console:

Cannot use the Send to Soundtrack Pro Audio File Command

I cannot use the Send to Soundtrack Pro Audio File Command, only the Multitrack and it's starting to really get on my nerves. It is unhiglighted. If I unlink the clip and select only half of the audio, the option re-appears. I have no idea what is wrong.

As an audio file, you can only send one clip at a time. This is a feature, not a bug. See the book for more information.
