Sending mail with SMTP sends it twice

I'm sending a text mail, and with my ISP's smtp server it works fine. With my employer's SMTP server, I get each mail that is sent twice. I'm not sure why but I know it's not a problem with the code because I've compared the code to the examples and also because it works fine with my ISP's SMTP server. If I use Outlook to send mail with my work SMTP server I get the emails only once. I saw on jGuru someone posted the same question with no response. Any ideas???
Michael

    hi neuro11
the following code is for sending mail its is working fine in my system, just change the
    SMTP_AUTH_USER = "tina.numi"; with u r email user name
    SMTP_AUTH_PWD = "abdcde"; u r gmail password
emailFromAddress = "[email protected]"; ur gmail addres
    emailList = {"[email protected]"}; receipient list .
and u must sure that u r internet is on and firewall should be off . some times firewall restricts you to communicate with gmail port number
Please make u r firewall off and source code is
    package com.FutureSoft.org.SendingMail;
Some SMTP servers require a username and password authentication before you
can use their Server for Sending mail. This is most common with couple
of ISP's who provide SMTP Address to Send Mail.
This Program gives any example on how to do SMTP Authentication
    (User and Password verification)
This is a free source code and is provided as it is without any warranties and
it can be used in any your code for free.

See SSLNOTES.txt and the JavaMail FAQ for debugging hints.
If you turn on all the debugging output and still can't figure it out,
you'll probably need to ask in some Java security forum. The
problem is occurring when making the connection using SSLSocket,
before any JavaMail code comes into play.

  • Mailing with SMTP doesn't work anymore, 10.6.2

    Hi all,
after reading so many posts regarding Mail and how sending emails doesn't work with 10.6.2, there still seems to be no solution that works for everyone.
After Updating to 10.6.2 I cannot send emails through ANY smtp server.
I also have a windows 7 machine running thunderbird and everything works there.
    I tried all suggested solutions,i.e.
1.) I checked connection doctor and everything seems to be fine (including the detailed messages)
2.) I tried all sort of settings, with, w/o SSL, all sorts of ports
    3.) I "reset" the keychain
4.) I "reset" Mail preferences by deleting com.apple.mail.plist in library\preferences
still, I can only receive emals but not send. any solutions are greatly appreciated, thank you in advance!

Hi - here is a bizarre solution (possible bug); I hadn't been able to ever send any with my 3 month old MacBookPro through Apple Mail 4.2, similar to what you say. That was under 10.6, 10.6.1 and 10.6.2. I was using my Win PC to send emails, or via Web clients in Safari off the MacBookPro, but finally I reached the time to call Orange UK, my ISP...
I have just had a great experience with their technical support, but the solution reached was NOT logical - let me explain it, perhaps it might work for you.
    The logical background is this:
Define an SMTP server; if you have Orange broadband, you HAVE to use theirs (as they block other servers form using the standard ports 25, 465 and 587 - apparently for SPAM reasons, or perhaps they are now required to keep an eye on everything... who knows.
So, in Apple Mail 4.2; we went to the menus, and Mail -> Preferences
highlight any account on the left, and at the bottom of the right hand pane, in the Account Information tab, click and define the SMTP server (click the box, choose Edit server, create an SMTP server - for Orange UK, I had to put in
    smtp.orangehome.co.uk
then ensure this is the only SMTP server Apple Mail uses, by checking the box in Account Information tab, Use only this server.
Go back into Advanced tab, and here is where the logic starts to end...
To recap: Mail -> Preferences -> Click on the Orange SMTP server button -> click "Edit SMTP server list..." (again) and go to the Advanced tab.
In this tab are two main choices:
    Use Default Ports (25,465,587)
Use Custom Port (by default this is a completely blank box)
Now, logic dictates that you would leave the 'use default ports' option checked, then try all other manner of parameter changes. But, we tried forcing 25 into Use Custom Port.
    Use Custom Port - 25
    but this too didn't work.
    Then I tried, for fun:
Use Custom Port - 587 (no SSL checked, and Authentication - none; again illogical as 587 should be an SSL port, as is 465)
And... suddenly my mail sent, for the first time ever!
mmm... When I looked again at this tab, though, the Use Custom Port box had reverted to saying...
Use Custom Port - 25 (???) but who cares, it worked. Why it didn't work the first time, I have no clue.
NB Between each try, I quit Apple Mail, deleted my test Outbox sending messages, and essentially made sure nothing was trying to be sent. This was between each 'attempt'. This might have been an important thing to do, but I don't know.
So, my best guess is to just try forcing the Custom Port to be 25, then 587... and keep trying. My emails still take about 5-10 secs to send, rather than almost immediately like they used to before I started with Orange Broadband (which I am, interestingly, finding to be a faster service than my previous ISP, and as yet, appears just as reliable...) It’s all so Weird! It’s the only thing that has really annoyed me with this my first Mac, so that’s good going!
    Good luck!

  • AE4500 does not send my e-mail by smtp

I have a weird problem with sending e-mail with my AE4500.
My e-mail program (outlook 2007) stopped sending my e-mail (My setting for sending e-mail is smtp.<provider name>.nl).
I get the message that the connection with the smtp server can not be established.
I pinged the smtp server and that worked.
I telnet to the smtp server, but that failed.
I tried also with e-mail program thunderbird, but same problem.
Also my mail server at home has the problem to send e-mail.
I plugged my laptop straight into the providers modem, and sending an e-mail, and that works
Then I plugged back my AE4500 and connected only my laptop to the AE4500 (all other devices I switched off).
    And the problem was back!
I checked for the latest firmware (2.0.37.131047), but that was already on my AE4500.
I replaced the AE4500 for my old E2000 (I used on the attic as accesspoint), and sending an e-mail, and that works
I reset the whole AE4500 and started from scratch, but no luck. If I use the router AE4500 e-mail sending will not work on port 25 (sending e-mail with smtp.gmail.com on port 465 works, but I do not want to send my e-mail by Google!!!).
All worked for over a year and now it stopped working! And nothing has changed!
At this moment as workaround I use my E2000 as router and put the AE4500 on the attic, but I want my AE4500 to cover also the garden and higher speed on the PC in the living room!
I searched the internet, but no solution! Who has any idea?

I believe what you have is an EA4500. Now, using your preferred SMTP server, what's the port that you are using? You might need open that port (triggered) on the new EA4500.
If everyone needs to believe in something, I believe I'll have another beer..

  • Outgoing mail without smtp authentication

My mail account uses an outgoing smtp server which does not require any authentication but IOS5 does not have this option (only various forms of authentication) - how do I set up an outgoing server without authentication

  • Problems sending mail: some problem with the outgoing mail server SMTP?

I can't send e mails: some problem with the outgoing mail server SMTP?

I had this same problem with both my imac and mac book pro using hotmail via mac mail with bt as my internet provider. Suddenly 4 months ago out of nowhere i could receive emails but could not send them. I scoured all the threads followed all the fixes none of them worked. However I just phoned apple support and fixed it in a matter of minutes. I am SO happy. This is what the technician advised me:
Go to your apple icon and scroll down to system preferences. Then dependant on what machine you have it is different for my imac and mac book pro click on either air port/wifi then the advanced tab in the bottom right hand corner. Then click on the DNS tab. Hit the + sign on the left hand side and type in 8.8.8.8 then hit the + sign again on the left hand side it will create a new line underneathe and type 8.8.4.4 then hit okay on the bottom right and then hit apply, again on the bottom right. Then send a test email to check but it should be fixed.
Had to share this. Its been driving me mad for months.

What mail program from what kind of computer are you sending your email?  It sounds like an encoding problem that would have to be solved on the sending end.   If you want, send me an example of the kind of email which arrives as gibberish on your iphone (tom at bluesky dot org).

  • E-mail sending from PL/SQL fails with SMTP error 550 must check for new....

We have a issue like this. We have a e-mail program (PL/SQL stored procedure which is called from a 10g R2 form) which sends e-mails using UTL_SMTP. It was working but suddenly from day-before-yesterday stopped working. Mail admin says he did not change any mail server paras.
The DB is in Linux so is the mail server. We finally did a code change. Now the mail goes to SMTP server but the mail does not go out of it (to a gmail address). We did a trace of the SMTP log and found out that it throws *550 [email protected] must check for new mail first* .
Here is the SMTP server log:

Wed 2012-04-25 19:20:11: Session 17159; child 1What could be the problem here? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Finally figured out the problem and fixed it. Now it is working.
*"must check for new mail first"* means that before sending mail you have to check your mails (i.e. download) your mails first from the mail server, because the normal setting is for SMTP servers is that you can send mail only if you received a mail. So, when you receive a mail (i.e. check mail), your IP is recorded in the SMTP server log. Now if you send a mail, only mails with the IPs which has received any mail will be allowed to send mails outside.
In order to only a send a mail without receiving any mail first you have to use SMTP authentication.
    I.e. After
    c := utl_smtp.open_connection(p_smtp_host, p_smtp_port);
utl_smtp.EHLO(c, p_smtp_host);  You have to give UID/PWD for the SMTP server like this:
    utl_smtp.command( c, 'AUTH LOGIN');
    utl_smtp.command( c, utl_raw.cast_to_varchar2( utl_encode.base64_encode( utl_raw.cast_to_raw( p_un))) );
utl_smtp.command( c, utl_raw.cast_to_varchar2( utl_encode.base64_encode( utl_raw.cast_to_raw( p_pwd))) );However, when we sent like this we got a another SMTP error:
554 Message is not RFC compliant; missing "Date" header To solve this do this: Go to Setup -> Default Domain & Servers, Servers, uncheck ...refuse
messages which are not RFC compliant. That will allow MDaemon to accept  the malformed messages without date headers..Doing this solved the problem. Now we can send mails to outside mail boxes (like Gmail). In Gmail, when we checked the inbox there was no mail. It had gone the Spam folder. This is also important since you have to check the spam folder since Gmail will think it is spam. Once the mail is flagged as "not spam" it will start coming to your inbox.

I have a problem sending mail via smtp. I use a satellite system and the average return time for a ping is 675ms. Is this a problem with mail? If so can I change Mail to accept it. The problem also exists with Lion and on both my MacPro and my wife's Imac. I also see my mailboxes randomly disconnecting and reconnecting. Any other ideas of a possible cause?

I solved it myself, after the "note" which came back from FF/Mozilla just as I finished my message, commenting on what it was that my system had , I wnnt back to check my plug-ins etc. I downloaded the latest Java, BOTH 32bit AND 64 bit versions and latest Firefox.
    Now all is working.
    Thanks,
    B.

    Hi Christian.
You could put the lines of your list in a table of type SOLISTI1 and then use the function module SO_NEW_DOCUMENT_SEND_API1 to send the content of this table. You have to fill the table RECEIVERS with the address you want to send the report to.
    Hope that helps,

  • Can someone help me send mail using SMTP server?

I am having the most frustrating problem with SMTP outgoing email account.  I use GoDaddy's Webmail (smtp.secureserver.net) and I receive all my emails through Apple Mail but I cannot send any.  I haven't been able to for about two weeks now, aside from 3 or 4 fleeting windows of time when I could.  Almost all of the time I try to send my emails, an error message says my outgoing account is offline.  I've been on the phone with GoDaddy's tech support three times this week and did everything we could think of, which include these steps:
-Force Quit Apple Mail --> Restart Computer
-Change Default Ports to a specific one and uncheck "Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)"
    -Check "Use only this server"
-Delete account completely from Apple Mail and re-load (which I had to go into Time Machine to recover messages, and lots a bunch in the process ugh!)
Nothing works!  I depend on this email for my business, and I rely heavily on Apple Mail for this account.  All of my other email accounts that I pull through Mail work fine, but of course they are not SMTP outgoing.  Please help...I feel like I've tried everything and nothing works permanently.

At this point there are 2 possible causes to your problem:
    Apple Mail
Connectivity between you and the SMTP server
I can't help with (1) as I use Thunderbird as my mail client (the biggest advantage being I can take my mail files and move between different versions of Mac OS X). If you suspect that your problem is due to Apple Mail, then using another email client to send a test message will prove the point. If it works, then the problem lies with Apple Mail and somebody else will have to chip in. If it still fails, then there may be connectivity issue between you and the mail server.
If you google "telnet smtp test" (without the quotes), you will find many articles showing you how to test an SMTP connection using telnet. Don't be put off by the fact that many of the articles assume you are running Windows. The only Mac bit you need to know is that telnet is a command line utility accessed via Terminal. The rest is generic.
Telnet will allow you to interact with the mail server a line at a time and show you exactly what and where the problem is. If you get an unexpected response from the server, go back to GoDaddy and show them the output. If you don't get any response at all (i.e. "telnet smtpout.secureserver.net 25" just hangs), then take it up with your ISP as you are simply not getting through to the server.
    Good luck.

  • Can't send e-mails via Mail with a Gmail e-mail address using Sky internet

Can anyone help? My brother has an iBook G4 Mac OS X 4.1 and is trying to send e-mails via Mail with a Googlemail e-mail account. He is using Sky for his broadband. I assume it has something to do with his outgoing smtp e-mail Preferences in Mail, but for the life of me I can't figure it out. He can receive e-mails OK, its just that when he tries to send he gets the 'server can't send error'. Any ideas?

Here's my gMail IMAP SMTP settings...
    smtp.gmail.com
    Port 25
    Authentication: Password
    SSL
Sky may require another port to pass through...
    IMAP is port 143
    IMAP-SSL is port 993
    POP is port 110
    POP-SSL is port 995
SMTP and SMTP-SSL is on ports 25, 587 and 465. Port 587 has to be SSL, and port 465 is enforced TLS-wrapped and is generally used by Outlook users.

  • Mail with multiple gmail accounts sending messages from wrong email, other than the one i select

mail with multiple gmail accounts sending messages from wrong email, other than the one i select:
i'm using mail on osx 10.7 with multiple gmail accounts. when i create an email, i check to be sure i'm sending/replying from the correct account. after i send it, somehow it actually sends it from a different account, other than the one i've selected "from." this is evidenced by the reply email i receive. how can i fix this?
in preferences, i have "send new messages from : account of selected mailbox"

From the Mail menu bar, select
              Mail ▹ Preferences...
The Mail preference dialog opens. Select the Composing tab from the row of icons at the top. From the menu labeled
              Send new messages from:
    choose
              Account of selected mailbox
Note that this setting may have no effect if you start a new message while a VIP or smart mailbox is selected in the mailbox list. Those are saved searches, not actual mailboxes.
If the problem remains, select the Accounts tab in the preference dialog, then select the affected account in the list on the left.
In the Account Information pane, select the correct server in the menu labeled
              Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)
If there's only one server in the menu, select
              Edit SMTP Server List...
and add a new server with the correct settings. If you're not sure how to do that, try the Mail Settings Lookup.
Another possibility is that the wrong card in your address book is selected as yours. Select your card in the Contacts application. Then select
Card ▹ Make This My Card
    from the menu bar.
