Sending Music from Windows XP to MacBook Pro and Moving my Ipod also...

Any help?
I want to move all of my music or copy it and move it from my Windows XP to my new MacBook Pro. I also want to have my Ipod Touch be used for my MacBook Pro and not just for Windows XP. So i want it to have it (if you know what I mean, its hard to explain)

You should be able to transfer all of your files from one computer to the other using your home network you just need to enable file sharing on both computer. However you can also use a external Hard Disk or USB Flash Drive to transfer your library.
As for your iPod Touch once you transfer your library to the new computer all you need to do is connect your iPod Touch and a dialog should appear saying that your iPod is synced with another computer and do you want to transfer your purchases to this computer. If it does not just use the "Restore" option to reformat your iPod to use with your MacBook. Use the restore option ONLY if you have successfully transfered you iTunes library to your new computer as it will erase your iPod completely.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all music and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

No, I do not want to "factory reset" my iPod. No I do not wish to do anything crazy long or hard to fix this.
That may be necessary, It is not what you want to do/not do but what is required to resolve your problem.

I am using my old iPhone for playlist for my Dad's funeral as that meets the crematorium requirements. Some tracks - uploaded from personal CDs to MacBook Pro and successfully transferred to new iPhone (with small doc) won't transfer on syncing.  Most do, but why won't some, of my own music sync when others off the same album and in the same playlist do? I have now checked the storage, freed up 766MB, how can i not sync (and get everything i've just deleted back) but upload the required tunes? All help appreciated, many thanks x x x

I don’t want to hear any of that “iTunes will let you re-download anything you’ve lost” nonsense.
it won't anyways. except or apps, you are entitled to one download only. there4 it is important to back up.

Im completely new to Mac. Im swapping my windows laptop for macbook pro and looking for network storage solution which the Time Capsule seems to do. Is it possible to use this as NAS for my desktop Windows PC - windows 7

Broadly speaking I want some sort of network storage( wireless or through my existing wifi router) that I can access files for both my windows PC and Macbook and also to access files to my iPad/ iPhone. Some sort of backup and sychronisation so that I can access certain files remotely.
Buy a real NAS.. synology or QNAP are the standard... although companies like Netgear and Western Digital and Seagate make them as well.
There is no problem sharing between Mac and PC now.. you do not even need a NAS to do that.. you simply share the hard disk directly. Mac talk SMB.. everything talks SMB nowadays.. so it is easy.
ipad and iphone are not designed to use NAS.. they are designed to backup only to the cloud or itunes.. but you can load an app like file browser if you want.

Remote access to the Apple TC is somewhere between difficult, to impossible from a PC.. Apple use BTMM and iCloud but the service is not offered to PC.
A real NAS will offer HTTPS or SFTP or several other methods.. that both Mac and PC can use.
You simply plug it into the current wireless router.. it is a network device and assessable over the network. It is not necessary to buy another router.. in fact that is a waste.

  • I am installing windows 8 on MacBook pro- and it asked me to reboot, I have done that and now not working. Please help, I am installing windows 8 on MacBook pro- and it asked me to reboot, I have done that and now not working. Please help

The computer then shut down then came up with the message No bootable device---insert boot disk and press any key.  I have inserted the disk and nothing is happening.  Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

Bootcamp will support your MacBook Pro, and 32 bit versions of windows 7 for sure. To find out if you can run 64 bit versions go through the boot camp assistant on your mac, partition the disk, and it will list compatible operating systems. Windows 7 will still work even if it's not there.
You can find the type of ram by going to About This Mac in the Apple menu and clicking on More Info…
Your hard drive will be 2.5" sata drive, though I'm not sure if it's user replaceable on that generation. My friend has a similar one and I think only the ram and battery can be changed on his. Good luck!

  • Just updated from a late 2008 Macbook Pro and I am getting a blink on my external screen

I just upgraded from a late 2008 Macbook Pro with a  AMD Radeon HD 6770M 1024 MB graphics card and I am now getting a blink (black screen) every few seconds.
    Anyone know a fix.
    Thanks

You could always give it a shot - the only problem that you might run into is that the the early 2011 might not boot when the hard drive is swapped from the 2008 hard drive. Some versions of OS X are simply not compatible between different models.
    But it's worth a try...

  • I'm moving from windows notebook to MacBook Pro. When teaching I use a USB quality pointer device and want to know it the MacBook works with it

    Greetings,
After using only Windows computers at work and home our company leadership now allows us to purchase Mac Pro Books if we desire. I am VERY excited!!!
Both of our sons work as engineers in Silicon Valley and will not purchase anything but Macs for years.  Both son's schedules hinder me to get the answers quickly from them so I am seeking advice from you.
I love the idea of finally getting a Mac but have some questions and need to find a source to answer my questions before I send in the request for the new computer. If any of you could respond to these "beginner" Mac questions it would be wonderful.
    1. I teach a large variety of classes using Powerpoint style presentations. I own a very nice wireless USB remote that I use to move between slides.  Will the ProBook allow me the ability to use my remote? If so is there anything I need to know to make it work?
    2. What are the tradeoffs of the 13 inch ProBook versus the 15 inch model?
    3. What external devices/equipment should I plan to have available to be effective in an office environment?
    4. In moving from Windows to Mac what is the best was to bridge the learning curve so I can become effective as quickly and effectively as possible?
I am very excited to make this change and your advice would be so appreciated.
    Blessings,
    David

    David,
Have you checked the Web site of the manufacturer of your wireless USB remote, to see if their product supports MacBook Pros?
In general, the 13-inch MacBook Pro has less powerful hardware than the 15-inch model. A detailed comparison can be found in the right-hand column of the table here.
Which external devices/equipment do you currently have  to be effective in an office environment with your Windows computer? The list is likely to be similar with a computer that runs OS X.
Which applications do you currently depend upon under Windows? That might be the best guide to providing advice on how to best adapt to OS X.

  • Music from iphone 4 to macbook pro

is there any way for me to transfer my music from my iphone 4 to my new macbook pro? i know you can do it with windows but why is it so hard to transfer to a Mac?? please let me know if there is any solution.

For purchased items: iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
For songs that you ripped from CD's, you'll need something like: http://thelittleappfactory.com/irip/
Or alternatively, if you still have access to the PC with the music on, then set up home sharing

  • Migrating from Windows laptop to Macbook Pro - HELP

How do I keep my current iTunes settings/music/phone backup/etc. when going from my Windows laptop to my new Macbook Pro? I moved the "itunes" folder to replace the one on the new Mac but itunes didn't recognize that it was there...The main thing I want to keep is my phone settings/purchases. Please help. Thanks!

These directions tell you how to move your iTunes library from one computer to another computer. While they talk about using an iPod, if you ignore that part & follow the directions, you'll be OK:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1329
Or, you could make an appointment at an Apple store, take both computers & your phone, and the geniuses will do everything for you, make sure all is working properly & explain everything to you. There is no cost for this service.

  • Change Syncing from Windows PC to MacBook Pro

I have an iPhone 3GS (16GB) and sync it with a Windows PC. I wanted to start syncing it with the MacBook Pro. When I plugged the iPhone into it, it started to charge and while I was setting options for syncing it said that some of the things, specifically Apps, would not be transferred from the iPhone to the MacBook. Instead what would happen is the iPhone would have all the Apps deleted, including data. There is no Apps on the MacBook at all.
Basically what I would like to do is find out how I can keep my iPhone the same, but start syncing the iPhone on the MacBook Pro. Transferring data via USB is an option, basically anything I am able to do, I just need to know what it is.
    Thanks for any help.

The iPhone expects to sync with a single library. Each library contains a value called the PersistentLibraryID. If you want your iPhone to "see" the library on the Mac as being the same thing as that on the PC then you can do this by cloning the library which is what I thought you were after. If you just want to switch it's allegience from the PC to the Mac then copy over any content/apps that you will still want on the device from the PC to the Mac, import it into the library, and then continue as normal. If you've any purchases made directly on the device be sure to *Transfer purchases* before the changeover.
Hmm - actually, if it's a "different" library it may still nuke the apps and replace them with fresh copies sans data... If you clone the database and the PC's Mobile Applications folder you can "clean" out the entries for Music, Video, Podcasts etc. that it won't be able to locate and then import what you do have on your Mac. Either way, if there is no local content to match a particular file on the iPhone then it will be removed.

  • How to install Windows 8.1 update from Windows 8 on MacBook Pro)?

I have a MacBook Pro (Late 2011) running OS Mavericks and Windows 8 Pro on Bootcamp.
I want to install Windows 8.1 on my Win 8 partition, but I have no idea how to do it. Most preferably, I wouldn't want to lose all of my files.
Could someone help me with step-by-step instructions?
    Thanks!

You'll be fine with 8.1 it is supported by Apple, first install the new boot camp drivers from http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1720
Launch windows update and install any requires updates then restart. Go into the (windows) App Store and you'll see the option to download 8.1. It will keep all your apps, files, etc.

  • Need to get photos and music from iphone to new macbook pro

I gave my old macbook pro to my daughter and bought a new one. However, i need to find out how to get my music, photos, etc from my iphone onto my new computer. When I try to sync i get the message my iphone contents will be erased and replaced with computer's content. Help!

Photos can be offloaded to any computer. If a computer does not have iTunes installed, it treats the iPhone as a camera and gives an option to save the photos.
Anyway, photo's aren't synced are they. They are always stored on the iPhone and never a part of a backup.
