Sending Word docs in Mail

Hi,
Has anyone else experienced false positive virus alerts, and/or emails just not getting through when trying to send MSWord docs attached to email in Apple Mail?
Thanks,
Rob

Rob,
It is entirely possible that this is NOT a false positive, due to viri that can infect Office -- this is actually not your Mac that would be infected, but only the application or applications in Office. This infection can pass with a shared file, and is cross-platform. See:

Can Ipad open, revise and send word docs?

Depends on what you're doing; SL doesn't really support Office docs directly. In Snow Leopard, TextEdit can open Word docs, albeit with little fidelity for anything beyond text. Try iWork if you need to really work with Word docs (note that even then it's an import/export process and not native support).

  • How do I  set the default view size when I open a word.doc from mail

I use the mail program all day long and open MS Word docs and the size is default of 100% but the actually view of the screen make it look like a font of 7 or 8
I have a difficult time even viewing the document until I blow it up to 150%. It's not because I'm blind I have excellent vision..
HOW DO I SET THE DEFAULT VIEW OF DOCUMENTS

This document can help you set the print settings for any type of printing. Not just for photos as the title suggests. You should not have to keep setting it every time.

  • Why can't I open word docs from mail anymore?

Am on 10.8.2 on Macbook Air and doc and docx attachments tell me to choose application to open the doc with and won't open when I choose "Word"
These used to be opened automatically by Word, not I have to manually choose Pages as the only option
    Am I missing something?

Don't see how I can choose the file from within Word as it's not saved anywhere?
I have now discovered if I drag the file from mail on to the WORD icon in the doc it will open....seems much clumsier than the old option of clicking on the file to open it
Opening attached pics seems to require the same action as well using iphoto.
A bit of a step back in my opinion....
Save the word file from the email to your Mac (have you never saved an attachment before)?
Post back when you can do as I asked you to.
And remember that we are trying to find out what is wrong, don't be so snappy!
haha...point taken. Wasn't feeling 'snappy' when I typed it, not intended as such...!
If I save it somewhere as you suggested I can then open it
also, as I mentioned if I drag the doc onto WORD in the dock it opens that way as well

  • Cannot send Numbers doc by mail?

I am trying to send a numbers speadsheet by email but send by mail is grayed out.  Any ideas why this is happening?  I have re named the doc to take out any "/" as I heard these were illeagal?  The file is going to another mac user who has numbers.
    Any help would be apreciated.

    Hi Stephen,
The screen shot in my first reply was when I had an open document in Numbers. When I closed all Numbers documents (but Numbers was still open) my menu looked like this:
Is that what you are seeing? Numbers needs to know what document to send. Send via Mail will only send the active (open) document.
    I hope this helps.
    Ian.

  • I cannot send a Pages document, Word format via email from my ipad if it has a picture in the the doc.  I can send a Word doc if it does not have a pic in it or pdf with a pic.  Any thoughs why a word doc with a pic in it won't email in Pages?  thanks

I cannot send a Pages document, Word via email if the doc contains a picture.  If I email a Pages doc without a pic in Word format or pdf with a pic it with go through to sender?  Not sure why Pages won't send Word doc with a picture in it.  I check the security on the email recipient and the email doesn't get blocked or throw in the junk box?
    thanks,

If you have upgraded to Mountain Lion, Save As… has returned to the File menu when you hold down the Option/alt key. But you don't really "save" as other file types, you translate & export as Word or RTF or text or PDF & that is easily done by going to File > Export or Share > Export.
Also, please do us all a favor & don't use all capitals in your posts, either the body of the post or the title. All caps is the internet equivalent of shouting & is very hard to read.

It's difficult to do more than guess when you don't say what version of OS X or Pages you're running, but if you're on the latest, have you tried the Share menu -> Send via Mail command?
If that doesn't help, you may have better luck if you ask in the Pages forum:
    Pages
When you repost, be sure to include full details about your versions so that people know what it is you're working with.

  • MS word .doc or .docx attachments won't send or receive in Thunderbird

I'm running Mac OS X 10.9.5 and Thunderbird 31.5.0. When I attach a .doc or .docx file in Thunderbird to an outgoing message, the attachment disappears. The outgoing message sends as normal, but when I go into my sent folder, there's no attachment, and when the recipient receives the message, there's no attachment. I've tried this from multiple accounts, both IMAP and POP, and I've tried it with many different .doc or .docx files, sending them to myself as tests. Every time they disappear. Other attachments--.pdf, .zip, etc.--work fine.

I found a solution to this problem:
    http://www.geos.ed.ac.uk/it/FAQ/Thunderbird/
In some instances the Thunderbird mail client may send a .doc file (Word attachment) with the incorrect mime-encoding of 'application/applefile'. Perform the following steps to resolve the problem:
    1) Close Thunderbird.
    2) Navigate to the following directory: \Users\<your username>\Library\Thunderbird\Profiles
    3) Open the directory named with a random set of characters, e.g. "yo6luyl8.default". There may be multiple directories if you have multiple Thunderbird profiles.
    4) Delete the file named 'mimeTypes.rdf'.
    5) Restart Thunderbird which will recreate a correct mimeTypes.rdf
Thunderbird seems to acquire this behaviour when it receives incorrect attachments sent by an email client on a Mac.''swalvarez [[#question-1050640|said]]''

I'm having a problem sending a word doc via email. I have Mac for Office 08, and I'm using Mavericks OS. When I save the document as a .doc or .docx, and send it to someone, (doesn't matter if its safari, chrome or firefox or on my yahoo or gmail accounts) they receive it as a blank document. Yet, when I open it on my Mac, it has a "word" icon and I can read it. How do I fix?

I suggest you post on the Microsoft Mac forums since it's their software you're having issues with.

  • Transfer word docs from Macbook pro to Iphone and send (NO WIFI)

I am a regular business traveler and recent mac convert. With my pc and windows mobile phone, I used to be able to easily do the following:
    1. Write word documents on the computer while on the plane.
    2. When documents are complete, connect phone to computer with usb cord.
    3. Transfer files to phone.
    4. When plane lands and cell coverage is available, send documents as attachments from phone using 3G coverage.
I have found lots of suggestions that cover part of this process for mac and Iphone, but all require wifi at some point. Please note, if I HAD a WIFI connection, I wouldn't need to do this because then I would send the docs from my macbook pro. The sole purpose is to be able to work around not having a wifi connection.
Any help would be appreciated. My Iphone is not jailbroken and I'm in the US on ATT.

Thanks for the suggestion of Diskaid. I have read what I can about it, and my understanding is that while it does allow me to move the document to the phone, the OS won't let me access the document to send via email. Can you clarify? Thanks much!

I have been sent a word doc and I need to find errors and make comments and send it back to her. I want to add a side comment. I'm using pages and not sure how to do this?
    Help please?

    Well,
Comments will survive the export/import cycle to Word, just as Change Tracking will.

  • Need to copy text in e mail and paste to seperate word doc file

Previous to Firefox 4 I could highlight text in body of e mail, select Edit and drop down to copy then minimize screen and select Word Doc file, then paste and print text.
    Please advise, Coyote Deb

You have the orange Firefox button?
You can call up the classic menu bar ''temporarily'' by tapping the Alt key or pressing F10. To display the classic menu bar all the time, choose
View > Toolbars > Menu Bar
That will replace the orange Firefox button.
Also, you should be able to copy by right-clicking on the selected text and choosing Copy from the pop-up menu. Could be quicker in some cases.
