Sent mailed not being saved

I have my preferences set to save Sent mail for a month. It is being saved for 2 days only. I have rebuilt the sent mailbox. Restarted, repaired permissions.
Thank you for help with this!

Hello 17black.
This is an IMAP account, right? Who is the provider?
Do you get the error message while you compose the message or when you hit Send?
BTW, if you’re using Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger), as your profile indicates, it would have been more appropriate to discuss this in the Mail & Address Book - Tiger forum. If the discussion applies to both Mail 1.x and Mail 2.x, it doesn’t really matter, but it’s difficult to know that in advance. The Mailbox Behaviors preference pane that you mention, for example, is called Special Mailboxes in Mail 1.x (and I’ll call it that way if we discuss the problem here).

  • Maildir and mac mail (sent mail not being saved)

Our IT moved a while ago from mbox to maildir and I was experiencing the same problems as everyone, my sent mail wasn't being saved. Read thread for background, http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3622469&#3721196
    I tried the following:
    1. Click Mail
    2. Click Preferences
    3. Click the Accounts button at the top
    4. Click the Advanced tab
    5. In the IMAP Path Prefix box enter INBOX.
    6. Close the window, close Mail, reopen it and try again
Doing this was necessary but not sufficient. After reading the above thread I also tried selecting an appropriately titled mail folder (sent-messages) in my mail account, clicking MAILBOX in the header menu and selecting USE THIS MAILBOX for SENT. Well long story short, it finally worked!
This last step is what's being described in the Mail help topic, "Saving copies of email you send."
For some reason I didn't understand or they didn't explain enough that I first had to select a mail folder.
This was a head scratcher so I hope it helps somebody.

Thanks for all of your responses.
I redid everything you guys mentioned and at one point I got a message that it wasn't reaching the server. The option to "resolve to server" came up (which wasn't the default option) and I clicked it for the heck of it. Sure enough, it fixed the connection. Again, what was odd was that the deault was "try again".
It's working fine now, but since I don't know what caused the disconnect in the first place, I'm hoping the connection doesn't break again, I accept a meeting, and it doesn't get added to iCal. You'd think there'd be a redundancy for .ics files where it would say:
You have responded to an invite. Would you like to add to iCal?
    [Yes] [No]
[ ] Never ask me again
Or it would there would be an option in Mail that says "Display Calendar invites as [] Attachment [] Email."
I know the preferences should take care of this, but meetings and appointments are important enough for this type of anal retentiveness.
Thanks again fo rall your help.

  • Sent email not being saved :-?

I have often issues with using mail and google imap, but it's not usually mission critical stuff.
But I have one issue which is really really annoying me, sending a reply to one particular email: when I send, it's not saving my message anywhere, either in sent items, or on the server. It's as though it never existed - but I know it was sent, because I got an auto-reply. I've never experienced this before; everything else saves fine as far as I can tell.
When I type it again as best I can remember, and convert my reply to plain text, it saves it like it should; but when I don't, it doesn't. Anyone else experienced this bug? I can't see anything in the raw source which should stop it being saved. I think the message I'm replying to was created with Outlook.

Ok, so nobody is having this problem.  Any ideas on how to fix it?

  • Why is sent mail not being shown in sent box?

I even question whether sent mail is really being sent. It tells me it is but without verification I don't know,

Your intuition is correct. When sending a message via your iPhone, the MBP automatically sends duplicate messages to your desktop. And you're right: it's annoying to have to trash messages you already sent - but at least you know your system is working.
There's a neat fix for this. On your ISP's mail application, add a mail box devoted only to your iPhone messages (e.g., [email protected]). Most ISPs will let your add email accounts this way. Add and configure the new email to sync with your iPhone. The next time you use your iPhone with this account, you won't get any duplicate messages, since your iMac hasn't been configured to accept messages from [email protected].
Problem solved? If so, post here so others can use this information. If not, do you need more information?

  • Sent mail not getting saved on server

I have an IMAP email account that I am accessing using Mail. I have the preference set to save a copy of the sent mail on the server. When I check my email at work (not on this mac), I do not see any sent mails that were sent from the mac. Is there something else I must do? I do see sent mails from my work pc showing up in the sent mail folder of the IMAP account (not under the Mailboxes -> sent mail folder).

Figured it out. Select the sent mail folder on the server and do Mailbox->Use this mailbox for->Sent

  • Sent Emails not being saved in Sent Messages Folder

I have been sending emails while logged into .Mac at work and I have not been receiving replies. When I send mail from my other accounts my friends tell me they never received mail from my .Mac acct. I even tried sending a blank one to myself and it was not showing up in the sent messages folder. How can I get all my messages to be saved in the send messages folder and not just some of them?
    Thank You

  • Passwords in mail not being saved

I've seen a lot of threads on this with many possible fixes from running keychain first aid to changing the interval that mail automatically checks for mail...
I was having this problem too. however my keychain first aid showed no problems and I don't have mail set to auto-check for messages. Mail would only ask for my password once. If I quit and restarted the program I'd have to enter my password.
what I did that fixed it finally was deleting my keychain files.
not through keychain access but through the finder.
I made backups and deleted the keychain files in the /library and users/library
I ran mail again entered my passwords for all of my emails, checking the save to keychain box, which prompted me to create a keychain. I chose default keychain. all works fine again.
just note that you will have to re-enter and save all passwords that may have been saved to your keychain.
I only had about 5 or 6 so no problem.
It's a good idea to know all of your passwords anyway...

After much searching around and trying different approaches, I finally solved my issue. I ran the combo 10.5.6 updater, and this solved the issue. Prior to running the combo updater, when I repaired permissions several things could not be repaired. After the combo updater, everything works fine, and permissions are fine as well.
My mail issue happened after I updated Quicktime, fyi.

  • Yahoo sent mail not saved to server when using Mail only.

Why does my Yahoo sent mail not get saved to the server when I use Apple's Mail program? (I have it saved in settings to keep sent mail on server).  I can see it in my Sent mail folder on Apple Mail but not on the yahoo server.  It's an IMAP account and it works fine on my iPhone.
I have tried changing the outgoing ports as well and erasing the account and reinstating it on the Mail program. No luck.

This solved my questionRe: Yahoo Mail folder behaviour with Apple Mail 5.0
Dec 8, 2011 5:14 PM (in response to ernestobenedict)
I finally figured out how to fix this; under the mailbox menu there is an option to "use this mailbox for" that allowed me to select the Sent Items folder from my Yahoo IMAP list of folders and make it the default for sent items from the Mac OS X mail software! "
Thanks to ernestobenedict for this solution!!!

  • Sent or replied to emails are not being saved in mailbox

My sent emails or the replies to emails sent to me are not being saved in my mailbox. The "sent" box is empty. What is happening and where can I find a copy of the emails I sent and the replies I sent?
    Thanks.

I am not sure why it's not enabled by default, but when you go in to your mail and you can see your inbox.   look below your folders on the left hand side you'll see mail settings under general.
    click it
and you'll see an option to save your sent messages.

  • Sent mail not saved

I have a problem with MAIL.  Since upgrading to Mountain Lion, my SENT emails are not being saved.  I selected my POP account mailbox under the SENT mailbox, and went to the MAILBOX pulldown, then selected USE THIS MAILBOX FOR, but SENT is not selectable.
How do I get my sent mails to be saved in my Sent box.

Maybe this will help. If you monitor the "More Like This" box, other solved threads appear. Opening them usually displays other threads.

  • Sent emails on my iphone not being saved on my hotmail's sent items

Sent emails on my iphone are not being saved on my hotmail's sent items

Delete the account on your phone under settings> Mail, contacts, calendars> hotmail account> delete. This will not erase anything on your email account as your phone only accesses the server. Then you can add the account again in the same place in settings. Just make sure you have the password so you can add it right away. Sometimes people forget their password because they never use it. If that's the case you can go online and click "forgot password" and resset it before you uninstall it on your phone. Hope this helps.

  • My outgoing messages are not being saved in my sent folder

Half of my message that I try to send are not being saved in my sent folder. This is a huge problem causing lost documentation and copies of information and conversations I have had. The error message I get says that thunderbird was unable to save to my sent folder and asks if I would like to try again. If I say yes I get the same message over and over again until I give up and let the message be lost to cyberspace. What can I do to fix this issue and stop loosing valuable information for work?
I am using an HP laptop running windows 8.

What protocol is your email account using (POP or IMAP)?
If POP, you need to make sure your local disk space is enough to save the sent messages. Check where the copies are located by looking at the account settings under '''Copies & Folders'''. When using POP, I believe a copy needs to be saved on both sides: local and server.
If IMAP, the email server is where such copies are saved. You can also double-check such settings as mentioned above.
Finally, if your emails are too big, this may be a restriction of your email provider, perhaps get in touch with their support and inquire about this to rule it out as the cause of the problem. Could you share more details about the kind of emails that fail to have a local copy saved or is it for each and every email?

  • Solved Problem - mail not being sent and kept in Outbox....

I've posted a few messages here about mail not being able to be sent and kept in the Outbox.
    It is solved. I believe.
Everything seems to be back to normal. I guess it was a problem of me over stepping limitations for .Mac e-mail, and getting locked out for a 24 hour period. So, I will be more care next time I need to e-mail large files to numbers of people ! Probably will invest in something like Stuffit and use there compression facility to reduce the size of files I want to send over the internet and via e-mail.
Thanks to those who took interest and gave advice.

You don't have to invest in Stuffit.
Built-in compression is included with the Finder.
To compress files before sending them, use the Archive command in the Finder's File menu. Select the file or files you want to compress, then choose File > Create Archive.
A compressed archive of the files is created. If you archive a single item, the archived file has the name of the original item with a ".zip" extension. If you archive multiple items at once, the archived file is named Archive.zip.
Recipients can open the archive by double-clicking regardless the platform - Windows or OS X.

  • Sent E-mails not being shown

Hi, I have a MBA and since yesterday all the e-mails that I have sent are not being shown in the sent folder. I sent one to myself and I got it so it must be working but how can I see them again after I sent them? Oh and the other problem is that search function does not work the way it used to. When I typed in one word it would show me all e-mails that had that word in them including the ones from e-mail adresses with which had the word in the adress.
Does anyone know how to get this to work?
    That would be great! Thanks!
P.S.: English is not my native language, sorry for mistakes

    Hi McGrey24,
A couple of important questions to get us on the right track.
1.) What type of email account are you using? Who's the service provider?
2.) What are you using to search? The Spotlight feature inside mail or the OS-wide Spotlight search?
The Mail search requires a little tweaking, by default it doesn't give you access to your entire account just specific mailboxes. There are ways to control if you want to search all mailboxes or if you're looking for the text string as the subject (or just content).

  • Messages are not being saved on N96

On my N96 I have set save sent messages and receive report as 'yes' but after updating firmware (20.050) messages are not being saved. Is there any solution to someone.

I have exactly the same problem with my N95 but I can't really say when it started. Suddenly I just noticed my phone didn't save sent messages anymore and hadn't done it for some time, but can't really tell after what it started to occur. Really strange problem, not even reseting back to factory settings helped - after I put "receive report" option back it stops saving sent messages to sent folder. Actually if I go to "sent" folder quickly after sending the sms, it shows there for little moment before disappears. Really strange. I couldn't google any other information about this problem than this topic.
