SEO support

I downloaded the SEO tool for iWeb, but without instructions, I don't know how to use it.  When I click on the Help button, it wants to sell me an 80 minute help video for $29.95.  Is this worthwhile?  Or is there somewhere else I can get free instructions?  (My website it finished and ready to go except for SEO.)  Thanks!

I can't imagine what the cost of the iWeb has to with SEO.
imaging having a hammer to pound in nails for $10, and got suckered into getting a power screw driver for $75 - with flimsy housing and told that it can hammer nails... just for comparation.
adding seo is just adding ascii text to iweb produced web page, here are few ways to do that:
1) if you have a sophisticated text editor app that has macro and scripting, then adding text to a file is simple.
2) if you like to be creative, you can use shell script or applescript to add text to specific place in a text file on your own at no cost (html is text file).
3) if you like to do it from inside iweb, you can build iweb widgets to add code in the page at no cost... but you need to learn iweb widgets.
The application has some deficiences that Apple has failed to address in the past and one of these is an easy way to add meta data such as keywords and description
the above hints can be done without apple supports nor seo sw.
has been good enough to make this useful application free
and would love people to pay $29.95 for help video...

  • GoDaddy support says I cannot do SEO with iWeb

Tech Support says iWeb is in weird Apple language and I cannot submit keywords to their system so as long as I use iWeb the "crawlers" cannot crawl my site. True? Do I have to buy a third party translator of some sort?

What do you mean you could not get Rage Software to work?  How are you trying to add it and what are you trying to do?
You do know that if you use Rage, then you do not add anything to iWeb itself?  You need to publish your site to your desktop first so that you can access the html and css code first and you then you the Rage tool to open your published site and add the SEO there and you then publish your site after that.  If you try to add it to iWeb itself, you will have no html and css to add it to.
GoDaddy will probably be trying to sell you something that you don't need and that they cannot guarantee will work anyway, so if you use Rage correctly, it will work and you don't need anything else.

  • Muse doesn't yet support schema formatting for SEO.

I've read elsewhere in this forum, "It is not possible to add schema tags with Muse for now, it might be available in future. And as you know that you cannot open html pages in Muse, so yes, you will need to use Dreamweaver to edit these pages."
Then, of course, the site becomes uneditable "in-browser."
Add this capability for true SEO and you'll permanently replace WordPress for me!

I am running 10.6.8 and using iweb for my web site. After several SEO analysis they all indicate I need H1-6 header tags. After looking at the source code I see there are none in iweb. Are they necessary to add?  Why would one add these tags and how do I add H Tags to iweb? And are there examples to look at? I am slowly learning about simple web design and assumed that iweb was stand alone without having to write code. Is this one of the reasons iweb is no longer supported? Thanks for looking at this!

A simple text page like this:
    Heading
        sub heading
              text paragraph ....
Is traditionally represented by html tags like:
    <h1>Heading</h1>
         <h2>sub heading</h2>
              <p>text paragraph ... </p>
I would guess that the use of h1-h6 tags helps search engines to understand the structure of a page as the tags imply a certain structure.
This can be compared to more generic tags like <div> that could represent any kind of content - and may be what iWeb uses (you'll have to check yourself).
I would generally recommend that you use some kind of up to date blog/site building tool, perhaps Wordpress or Squarespace (I haven't used either one myself) that support current web technologies - this should reduce your SEO issues and make it easier to properly support mobile/tablet users.

    Hi ITPSB,
Base on my experience, you only write above code into your index page head, also you could add this into every page.
And about the domain redirect, I suggest you could implement a 301 redirect to your custom domain. That will notify search engine spiders that the URL has permanently moved and they will update their index. I suggest you refer to those posts (http://stackoverflow.com/a/13634333)

  • I changed web hosts and can't publish through iWeb SEO Tool or Rage Site Map Automator. Do I need to delete the old site map?

I switched to iPage hosting since Mobile Me is expiring. Also recently upgraded to OS X 10.7.3 and am using iWeb 3.0.4 for my web site design. I published directly to the FTP from iWeb but all title tags, meta tags have disappeared and I'm not showing up in Google or others. I tried publishing from iWeb SEO but it couldn't complete the process.
Should I first publish to a folder as I did before with Mobile Me, then delete all old sitemaps and start over with the Site Map Automator and then try to publish from the SEO tool? Will I lose the key words and meta tags that are already in iWeb SEO?
    Thanks!

The problem is that most tech support people don't understand how iWeb structures a site.
When a visitor types in "domain-name-com" the browser expects to find an index.html in the root folder on the server. In "normal" websites the index.html file is the first page of the site.
The iWeb index.html file is a redirect to the first, or landing, page of the site which is the one at the top of the left column in iWeb just below the site name.
    iWeb produces two index.html files.
One is outside of the folder containing the rest of the files and directs to - folder-name/home-page-name.html
The other one is inside the folder and directs to - home-page-name.html
You have two choices of how you upload the files since you are publishing to a local folder.
You can upload the whole folder plus the external index.html to the root folder on the server and the URL to any page will be...
    http://www.domain-name.com/site-name/page-name.html
If you upload the contents of the site folder, and not the folder or the external index.html, the URL will be...
    http://www.domain-name.com/page-name.html
See this page for more info and the warning about breaking the RSS feed....

But when i open Seo Tool there is nothing in it.
Can someone help me? What wrong am i doing?

There are two files in ~/library/preferences/
    com.ragesw.iwebseotool.plist

The site info is in the iWeb SEO Tool doc that is in ~/library/Application Support/iWeb SEO Tool/

  • "invalid password "on Iweb Test. and on SEO Tool, Login Failed Login Authentication Failed, ALL SETTING ARE CORRECT HELP

I have been updating my site over the last week, using Iweb SEO TOOL, but suddenly 2 days ago I can no longer update when i go to publish it says "invalid password "on Iweb Test. and on SEO Tool, Login Failed Login Authentication Failed, the password and all settings are correct.
I am 100% sure the all the setting are correct, as it has been working for the last 7 months and I have just been updating it, then suddenly it stopped, I have all the FTP settings wrote down, and even changed the passwords twice hoping that may work to no avail.

    Try the following:
delete the iWeb preference files, com.apple.iWeb.plist and com.apple.iWeb.plist.lockfile, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
    launch iWeb and try again.
If that doesn't help continue with:
move the domain file from your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Desktop.
launch iWeb, create a new test site, save the new domain file and close iWeb.
go to the your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and delete the new domain file.
move your original domain file from the Desktop to the iWeb folder.
    launch iWeb and try again.

  • SEO Tool for iWeb HELP

I have used iWeb('09) to publish to the ftp server, ipage.com. I haven't had a problem, until I downloaded the seo tool. Followed all the directions (even added a favicon!), except 2 of my linked sites do not work. They show up in the SEO program, but when I go to publish it, they don't work. I proceeded to publish from iWeb in order to erase what I had done, but still seems to not work. I know there is a "cache" for iWeb, would this have something to do with it?
    http://www.trdesignsllc.com
"About Us" & "Portfolio" do not work... rest is working.
    Thanks for the help!

It is likely that you didn't put the right URL in the URL field when you exported your website in iWeb to a local folder.
I would Publish Your Entire Site from under the File menu in iWeb to a local folder. Open it up in iWeb SEO Tool and then publish your site with iWeb SEO Tool.
It can also be that your directory path is incorrect. Contact your web hosting provider to get the correct root directory path. Only they know what it is.
If you have more problems, please contact our support and we'd be happy to help!
@Old Toad: Publishing with iWeb SEO Tool to an FTP server should work fine without any problems. Most issues with publishing with iWeb SEO Tool are because of an incorrect directory path. The directory path must be correct and can only be retreived from the user's web hosting provider.

  • Can't enter fields in iweb SEO tool - help please?

I've been trying to add title tags to my new site using iweb SEO Tool but all fields remain greyed out, despite expanding and selecting each directory in the 'Local Sites' column, so I still can't enter any tags.
Although this issue is mentioned in Rage's knowledge base, it just advises selecting the relevant directory, after which it should work, only it doesn't, The knowledge base does not offer any alternative solution.
I'd be really grateful for any advice on this - many thanks.

Thank you Roddy, but pls could you advise me where the HTML site files might be located on the HD?
I assumed they were within > Application Support > iweb > domain > but when I click into the lower levels, I get two options entitled 'site-page' followed by numbers that I don't recognise. When ~I select either of these, the option to add title tags within SEO Tools is still greyed out.
    Thanks again for your patience

  • SEO and Flash, can they ever be friends

    Hi All,
I have recently been questioning the SEO side of things; and
am currently trying to better optimize my site. I use quite a lot
of flash on my site, and it sorted dawned on me that Flash is doing
me no favours when it comes down to SEO - I will need to get a good
ranking, as this year I will be putting a lot of money and time
into making our site a success story ;)
Am I a little green on this or what?
Anyone know any tips/tricks on how best to bring SEO and
Flash together, to better work in page ranking?
What do folks with totally 100% Flash sites do when it comes
down to SEO? As there is only a few meta tags and title tag
    available?
I love Flash, and would never let go! However, this SEO thing
will always be a "Flash Avoidance" for new clients; how can one
best assure them that Flash provides more than just a better brand
    image?
A few weeks ago, a potential client stated "I would never
    have a flash menu".
    Kind Regards,
    Boxing Boom

@kglad: swfaddress need not be timeline based, flash just has
to respond by displaying the relevant content - which could be
    loaded content.
My view is that the best way to achieve SEO is to use
swfaddress in combination with a CMS. The CMS provides the same
content in html for search spiders and to flash in a more 'flash
friendly' format when flash is 'rendering' it. SWFaddress supports
the deep-linking from search queries etc.
The way you could think about this is that when flash
requests the same content it gets (for example) xml defining what
it needs to do, whereas if the browser requests it , it gets the
basic html version. But the content is only ever defined once for
both versions of the output from the CMS.
Drupal (a CMS I am familiar with, but I'm sure other CMSes
have similar modules) has a swfaddress module as well as
services/amfphp modules that let flash request content.
My own (somewhat neglected) site has flash requesting all the
content via Drupal. I am not currently 'displaying' it using flash:
flash is loading the content (using as2 LoadVars in json format)
and 'rendering' it via the browser via ExternalInterface and
javascript. This was a kind of experiment just to see if I could do
it - it does store pages in flash memory so some things happen a
little different when navigating to a previously viewed page. But
it could also easily do its own alternate rendering of the same
content, as more structured data and rendering them in its own way
    inside flash.
My own example is not so great (it is due for an overhaul)
but I know there are examples out there using this approach with
    flash.
The beauty of this approach is that you get SEO via the
traditional spidering approaches, deeplinking to the correct
content from search query results, forward/back button support,
non-flash based browser support, along with easy content
maintenance. It does require learning a CMS and the approaches for
    integration with flash though.

  • SEO - Browser display of website info

I have been doing SEO on a website using the Muse Meta data area of webpages and I am getting some good results in the browser
as well as registering  the website with google, bing etc
I was wondering if there is any way to get my site to show up in browsers like the Nasa site - see screen shot - Does anyone know
how this is done. It is almost like a table of contents -- Much appreciated. --

  • Installed SEO Quake, SEO Status and Search Preview don't know where to find them as not showing in any tabs on the interface.

Just new to Firefox. Installed these plugins/add ons. When installed SEO Quake saw this displayed in a tab at top of window. However, when installed the other plugins none of them appeared anywhere. I haven't got a clue as to how I display/show them in the window area so that I am able to use them. It is a mystery to me as to where they have disappeared!

    Does the iPod work OK?

Does it appear in My Computer?
Look at the dock connector on the iPod. Compare with the iPod that does work/connect.
I suspect you have a 2G iPod. Those can only go to iOS 4.2.1
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353#iPod_touch_late2009
    iPod touch (3rd generation)
iPod touch (3rd generation) features a 3.5-inch (diagonal) widescreen multi-touch display and 32 GB or 64 GB flash drive. You can browse the web with Safari and watch YouTube videos with Wi-Fi. You can also search, preview, and buy songs from the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store on iPod touch.
The iPod touch (3rd generation) can be distinguished from iPod touch (2nd generation) by looking at the back of the device. In the text below the engraving, look for the model number. iPod touch (2nd generation) is model A1288, and iPod touch (3rd generation) is model A1318.

  • How to make i web seo  ready???

Goddady tells me their SEO products have to be installed manually for I WEB.
The best software for SEO is WORDPRESS!!!
I will have to switch at some point, but right now i spent a lot of time perfecting I web and would love to use and maximize all SEO tools.
I understand there is a company called RAGE,charging a few hundred dollars to help I WEB with SEO,,but no phone support which is a worry.
Can anyone advice with search engine optimization for I web, there has to be a procedure for I web to crawl up  google.
There is a  E book by Cederick Giger on I web,he claims It can be SEO used, but did not explain well.

You can use RAGE's iWeb SEO Tool. It's free. I'm not sure where you heard about them charging a few hundred dollars. They just have a bunch of different applications that you can use, but iWeb SEO Tool is free. You may want to head over to their site and snoop around a bit and you'll get a better idea.

  • IIS Url Rewriting supported with SharePoint 2010?

I am currently working for a client that is investigating how they can do vanity domain names for sub sites.  I don't believe this will actually work with SharePoint 2010 and believe it may put the environment in an unsupported state...however I need
to find some sort of official MS statement saying so.
Everything I find points me to
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc261814%28office.12%29.aspx#section2  which states that "Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 does not support asymmetrical paths" however I can't find anything that says the equivalent for 2010.
I know that web apps and AAM are the typical approaches, and now in 2010 you can do host named site collections, however they want to do sub-sites.
Can anyone point me to any official MS statement stating that this is not support with SharePoint 2010?
    Tony Testa www.tonytestasworld.com

We ran into the same question. Since there's no official statement from Microsoft to be found on the internet that takes away the rumors about it being supported, we set out the question with Microsoft to provide their official statement. Their
reply was that URL rewriting is supported. Find the full reply from Microsoft at my website at
    https://www.zomers.eu/knowledge/sharepoint2010/Pages/Url-rewriting-is-supported-for-SharePoint-2010.aspx
This link doesn't work and also directly contradicts statements from other Microsoft sources, e.g.
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/opal/archive/2010/04/23/sharepoint-2010-search-engine-optimization-seo-tips.aspx
    where the following is stated:
"URL Rewriting is still not supported - however url redirect is supported. We are using url redirect feature in url rewrite model."
Please provide a link that works and/or back up your claim. Thanks.
