Seperate logs for software virtual hosts?

As the subject says, I'm trying to create seperate web logs for software
virtual hosts, under iPlanet Web Server 4.1.
I found a brief mention of using the "host" parameter for <Client> tags
in the docs, but this just seems to write the same data to all logs
regardless of the client tags.
Relevant bits from obj.conf:
Init fn="init-clf" testlog1="/tmp/access_vh1" testlog2="/tmp/access_vh2"
[ other stuff snipped ]
<Client host="firsthosturl*">
AddLog fn="common-log" name="testlog1"
</Client>
<Client host="secondhosturl*">
AddLog fn="common-log" name="testlog2"
</Client>

forget the format line as well).

  • Oracle Portal Virtual Host Enhacement for Multiple Virtual Hosts

    I open the TAR Number: 4326752.996
    The TAR is related to " REQUEST ASSISTANCE FOR MULTIPLE VIRTUAL HOSTS AND MULTIPLE PAGE GROUPS CONFIG. "
    This is the Scenario: We Have Oracle Portal installed in a single Box. yes I know I know... but Not everybody is Yahoo or Google for Clusters and all the good stuff, we just want our website managed by Oracle Portal since all our ERP is running Oracle Database. Anyway. 1 Box running Oracle Portal Infrastructure and MidTier.
    It turns out that our previous configuration we have the LAMP Solution with PHP, Apache with Virtual Servers configuration very trivial for a regular web server however we have about 6 Virtual domains.
    For example:
    www.abc.com
    www.def.com
    www.ghi.com
    www.jkl.com
    www.mno.com
    www.pqr.com
    We also like to post all our Intranet Information in this great Portal:
    http://intranet.com
    Where intranet.com is the same server but setup in our Internal DNS without be a Real Internet Register Domain.
    So bottom line we start doing great with Install our single box install, later [GRRRRRR does not come by default in port 80 GRRRRRR, ok need to move and setup the virtual host to resolve our main External website www.abc.com ]
    For starters ok it worked we have our main website running Oracle Portal.
    Now is time to go to the step number 2.
    Setup another Page Group in Portal to be the Page_Group_INTERNAL.
    I figure if Apache can setup Virtual Hosts pointing to Independent parts of the File System without be shared. I was expecting some kind of custom configuration where I can setup httpd.conf to point to some specific PageGroups to make sure
    www.abc.com => Page_Group_External
    never share information with:
    intranet.com => Page_Gorup_Internal
    My TAR was very quick closed with the Argument that is not what It supposed to do.
    Since a virtual host is a common thing to do on Linux and Apache, I wonder if You guys could list this as one of the default features to have multiple virtual domains assosiated with Page Groups that they never talk or share Resources I think that would be really great.
    In the mean time I guess we have no option but to put a password for every internal page or take the risk of share our Information to the Internet. Perhaps designate another box with Oracle Portal but In that case Is not really cost/bennefit to use a killer technology for our external site since we just have no more than 30 pages.
    Anyway just figure drop you guys a note any advise will be really appreciated.
    Best Regards Dino.

    Hi Martin,
    1. To change the target URL of KM resources you can to the following:
    Access the URL Generation Service Configuration by navigating to:
    System Administration -> System Configuration -> Knowledge Management -> Configuration
    Content Management -> Global Services -> URL Generator Service
    Change the Host property to "portal.company.com".
    2. You change the Port by opening the Visual Administrator and going to : Dispatcher -> Services -> HTTP Provider
    Change there the "Ports" entry from (Port:50000,Type:http)to (Port:80,Type:http). Then go on "Save".
    3. To remove the "/irj" from the portal URL you can create a index.jsp with the following content, and save it in the J2EE Documentation folder:
    <Drive>:\usr\sap\<SAPSID>\JC<J2EE_instance_number>\j2ee\cluster\server0\apps\sap.com\com.sap.engine.docs.examples\servlet_jsp\_default\root
    <%
    //Send the redirect using server redirection (not client script)
    //This will also send the HTTP GET parameters
    String queryString = request.getQueryString() ;
    if (queryString==null ) {
    response.sendRedirect
    ("irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.portal.navigation.portallauncher.default") ;
    } else {//redirect with HTTP GET parameters
    response.sendRedirect
    ("irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.portal.navigation.portallauncher.default?" + queryString) ;
    %>
    Hope this helps,
    Robert

    Q<general> Are there seperate logs for web services?
    A<general> It does not appear that there are any separate logs for web services.
    There is knex.log file that records the errors that occur during deployment of
    your .jws files. There is also the standard server log that provides information
    about server status - you can write to this programmatically if you wish. There
    is also the access.log file which record all the HTTP requests so this might cover
    some of your web service requests that are transmitted over HTTP.

  • DNS zones for Mail virtual host

    Hello,
    We have a split DNS server hosting mail for company.com. So we have a DNS zone called company.com with the appropriate records (A, MX).
    We now need in the same box to host mail for another domain, company.org. Do we have to create a separate DNS zone for company.org with another A record for the server?
    Regards
    Kostas

    If you're going strictly for mail and with no other network services are associated, then Camelot is quite correct and you can use an MX, and enable virtual hosting within the mail server.
    If you're doing "other stuff" with that domain, then you'll need the zone.
    Given the usual fondness for, well, "incomplete" questions and for server configurations and networks that, um, "evolve", then the answer I'd use is "yes"; add the zone.  (If for no other reason than somebody's eventually going to want a web server with the domain, or...)
    I'm not a big fan of split-horizon though I can and do use it for specific cases. I prefer to partition "inside" from "outside", and that avoids this quagmire.
    And FWIW, "example.com", "example.org" and "example.net" are RFC-reserved domain names available for posting obfuscated examples and questions, for documentation, and related use.  "company.com" and "company.org" are real and registered domains.

  • Syslog - seperate log for router output ?

    I've got logging enabled on my Mavericks server and everything is being written to system.log.
    I've set my MAC syslog server as the remote log server for my network router and this is working fine, but everything is being written to system.log, Ideally I'd like it to go to /var/log/router.log
    I've created the router.log, and set the ownership (root:admin) and permissions (777), but how do I send just the router logs to that log file ?
    The logs looks similar to this :
    Mon Apr 28 08:48:10 2014: <12>Apr 28 08:48:00 kernel: DROP IN=ppp0 OUT= MAC= SRC=203.58.25.11 DST=80.xxx.xx.xx LEN=131 TOS=0x00 PREC=0xA0 TTL=107 ID=96 PROTO=UDP SPT=29604 DPT=50976 LEN=111
    Mon Apr 28 08:48:12 2014: <12>Apr 28 08:48:01 kernel: DROP IN=ppp0 OUT= MAC= SRC=88.195.144.252 DST=80.xxx.xx.xx LEN=52 TOS=0x00 PREC=0xA0 TTL=114 ID=17397 DF PROTO=TCP SPT=63285 DPT=50976 SEQ=294340858 ACK=0 WINDOW=64240 RES=0x00 SYN URGP=0 OPT (020405B40103030201010402)
    Mon Apr 28 08:48:12 2014: <12>Apr 28 08:48:01 kernel: DROP IN=ppp0 OUT= MAC= SRC=113.201.73.109 DST=80.xxx.xx.xx LEN=126 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x20 TTL=45 ID=10052 PROTO=UDP SPT=34680 DPT=50976 LEN=106
    But there are other entries like:
    Mon Apr 28 09:08:48 2014: <30>Apr 28 09:08:37 dnsmasq-dhcp[228]: DHCPDISCOVER(br0) aa:ad:bb:11:cc:dd
    Mon Apr 28 08:59:15 2014: <30>Apr 28 08:59:05 pptpd[1773]: CTRL: Starting call (launching pppd, opening GRE)
    Mon Apr 28 08:59:15 2014: <30>Apr 28 08:59:05 pptp[1774]: Plugin pptp.so loaded.
    The logs don't show the router name or IP Address, so is the syslog intelligent enough to allow me to log from a specific IP Address or is there some other method. ?
    I've read I should use asl.conf, but I'm not sure what to configure to make this work correctly.
    Any help or advice would be gratefully received :-)
    Thanks

    Thanks for the link.
    I looked at the raw syslog output to find the host and I've added the following to my asl.conf:
    ? [A= Host kernel:] file /var/log/router.log file_max=5M all_max=50M
    ? [A= Host kernel:] ignore
    ? [A= Host pptp] file /var/log/router.log file_max=5M all_max=50M
    ? [A= Host pptp:] ignore
    ? [A= Host pptpd] file /var/log/router.log file_max=5M all_max=50M
    ? [A= Host pptpd:] ignore
    restarted com.apple.syslogd.plist and now the logs are going to router.log.
    Couple of questions.
    The logs are still going to system.log as well, how do I stop that ? I assumed the ignore would do that..
    The log shows as :
    Apr 29 12:41:12 kernel: Unknown <Warning>: DROP IN=ppp0 OUT= MAC= SRC=110.200.88.19 DST=80.xxx.xxx.xxx LEN=129 TOS=0x00 PREC=0xA0 TTL=40 ID=5080 PROTO=UDP SPT=20884 DPT=50976 LEN=109
    Previously there wasn't the <Warning> in the log. Anyway to remove that ?
    Thanks

  • Correct DNS Setup for Mailman Virtual Host?

    DNS gurus, help please: I'm setting up a new Snow Leopard server that will rely upon an external name server. The single PTR record for this server will be the server's primary website, www.ourprimarydomain.topleveldomain . This primary domain name currently resolves to our current production server. I'm migrating Mailman before the primary website, and I'd like for Mailman to use a subdomain like mailinglists.ourprimarydomain.topleveldomain . This subdomain currently resolves to Mailman on our current production server. For testing before we switch to the new server, I'd like to set up a sub-subdomain development.mailinglists.ourprimarydomain.topleveldomain .
    Clear as mud? Here's what I think that I need in our external DNS, is this the best way?
    A: development.mailinglists.ourprimarydomain.topleveldomain -> new server IP
    MX: development.mailinglists.ourprimarydomain.topleveldomain -> new server IP
    PTR: none until we migrate primary website
    Will this break anything? If we need a PTR record, perhaps we should register an external domain name that isn't our primary website.
    What about C records? Should I register aliases?
    Thanks for your advice,
    Ted

    OK, I've changed my plan. I think that this is the best for my scenario:
    Register an external A, MX, and PTR for development.mailinglists.ourprimarydomain.topleveldomain -- I read that some email spam filtering systems use PTR (reverse lookup) as one factor in spam identification. So I want a PTR to begin with for testing. Once the mailing lists are migrated, I simply request that the current production domains point to the new IP.
    So ... I think that's it

  • Mod_rewrite not working for virtual host nor .htaccess

    I've been tearing my hair out trying to implement mod_rewrite on my Leopard Server. I have finally been able to get mod_rewrite to log what it does, but that has only shown that it DOES periodically respond to a /server_status request from the server itself, but any request to the virtual host (which is otherwise working) does not result in mod_rewrite being 'triggered.' I've tried all the usual suspects, in just about every permutation and combination:
    1) .htaccess in all its guises and Override All;
    2) RewriteEngine On;
    3) http.conf, the virtual xxxx_80_virtualhostname.com.conf;
    4) Options All -Includes -ExecCGI +MultiViews -Indexes +FollowSymlinks;
    5) other less credible ideas gleaned from the Apple discussions and the web.
    If I had to summarise the effect, it's that
    a) mod_rewrite is on (as shown by the regular /server_status entries in the rewrite.log);
    b) xxxx_80_virtualhostname.com.conf is read when the virtual host is turned on (because the site is active and can be turned off, at will);
    c) any mod_rewrite and Options entries in the vistual host xxxx_80_virtualhostname.com.conf seem to be being studiously ignored, even though the .conf file is being read and used.
    This part of http.conf is what seems to turn on the logging:
    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
         RewriteEngine On
         RewriteLog /private/var/log/apache2/rewrite.log
         RewriteLogLevel 9
    </IfModule>
    Here's the section of xxxx_80_virtualhostname.com.conf:
    <Directory "/Library/WebServer/com.VirtualHostName">
         AllowOverride All
         <IfModule mod_dav.c>
              DAV Off
         </IfModule>
         Options All -Includes -ExecCGI +MultiViews -Indexes +FollowSymlinks
    </Directory>
    <IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
         RewriteEngine On
         RewriteLog /private/var/log/apache2/rewrite.log
         RewriteLogLevel 9
         RewriteRule ^/Tom.html$ /Mary.html [R]
         RewriteCond %{REQUEST_METHOD} ^TRACE
         RewriteRule .* - [F]
    </IfModule>
    This is a variant of the .htaccess file:
    RewriteEngine on
    RewriteBase /
    RewriteRule ^/Tom.html$ /MARY.html [R]
    It makes no difference whether the RewriteBase is present in the .htaccess or the xxxx_80_virtualhostname.com.conf, or both.
    No amount of pass-though [PT] or redirect [R] has any effect, either.
    I do have Lasso 8.5 installed, but the developer says that Lasso should have no effect on the proper functioning of mod_rewrite.
    mod_rewrite is working (i.e. it's on, as shown by the /server_status entries in the log and that the log is being updated), but it is also not working (in that no matter what I put into xxxx_80_virtualhostname.com.conf and/or .htaccess, there is no entry in the rewrite.log nor in the system logs).
    Hence, I'm stumped. Any suggestions would be very, very welcome.

    Never mind. I discovered that Server had created several versions of the virtual host .conf file in the sites folder (I've no idea why, when, or how it would do that). They all had different numbers and so were well hidden within the dozens of other .conf files. Once I a) found the right .conf file for the virtual host, and b) deleted the rest from the sites folder, my mod_rewrite code worked fine.
    Hence, if you find that mod_rewrite is working, but not for a particular virtual host, make darn sure that there are no errant .conf files for the domain and, if there are, that you're editing the correct one.

  • Virtual Host Name for CM

    Hi ,
    R12.1.3 & 11gR2 DB
    I have a qucik question . When We have Virtual Host Name for setting , What Should be the node name for ICM in Concurrent Manager Admin form.
    In One of our Instance : For ICM & Other Manager , its Virtual Host Name
    For Other : ICM : Physical Host Name & Other Manager Virtual Host Name .
    Which is good. We having a issue with ICM on both Nodes , in every minutes is going down and come up automatically.

    Thanks a lot. I have already review these document.

    I am curious what should be the node name in concurrent manager Administrator form.
    W ether is should be the virtual host name or physical host name.
    I have just checked with few people , Some Says ICM node name should be Physical server name & Other CM name can be Virtual name. I am not sure on what basis people are saying.
    Few says node name should be the physical host for every CM.

  • How to configure multiple virtual hosts for the same context root /

    Hi,
    I am using Glassfish V1 U1 - b14 on Solaris.
    I am trying to configure two applications to be mapped to the / root context, each one in its own virtual host.
    Two things I have noticed:
    1. I have to manually add virtual-hosts="hostId" in domain.xml/application-ref ... looks like just simply deploying the app does not do that although the application is set as default for its particular virtual host. Is this a bug?
    2. Although I have set for each virtual host the default web-app correctly, and they both respond fine, I cannot map both of them to the / context. The second application (chronologically deployed) does not respond when called with the / context ....
    Any ideas? Is this a bug again?

    Wow, that's a shame. All mighty Application Server and two different apps on two different virtual hosts are considered ambiguous to have the same context root definition.... Fair play to Tomcat and 90% of the rest of servlet containers!
    In my case I have the same EAR we are planning to deploy to many (up to 30) virtual hosts. Faking different context roots for each deployment will bring unnecessary overheads...
    Should I file a bug or feature request?
    Thanks again for your answer, although you're basically saying it is not possible I will wait and look a while for a possible solution before bringing this topic to a conclusion.

  • IP Virtual Host w/SSL serving on port 80 and 443

    We have an OS 10.3.8 system and we've configured several virtual hosts using the system admin panel. One IP has several hosts on it. We have a seperate IP with one virtual host on it since it is running SSL. I have it configured for port 443 and I have all the security certificates installed OK. The site operates correctly over HTTPs. If I try to access it with standard HTTP I get a service not available error (which makes sense since server admin sets the config files to port 443 ... not 80).
    The only way I can get it to work is to add another virual host in server admin running on that IP at port 80. Unfortunately, that means it will be logged seperately (which I don't really want it to do). What do I need to change to get a single virtual host on a specific IP to respond correctly to both 443 and 80 using the file layout generated by server admin (I can modify them manually)?
    Thanks in advance ...
    Tom

    >The only way I can get it to work is to add another virual host in server admin running on that IP at port 80.
    That's correct. That's how you run a site as both HTTP and HTTPS - they're two sites.
    > Unfortunately, that means it will be logged seperately
    Why? You can set both sites to use the same log file and their hits will be combined in a single file.
    > What do I need to change to get a single virtual host on a specific IP to respond correctly to both 443 and 80 using the file layout generated by server admin (I can modify them manually)?
    You can't, but if your issue is the logging, my answer above should take care of that.

  • Lost Virtual Hosts After Apache Upgrade

    I have migrated my server from 10.4.11 to 10.5.1. The upgrade appeared to go fine but the virtual hosts I have disappeared. I tried using the 1.3 to 2.2 Apache conversion process but that failed. I tried cleaning up the site files, modified the /var/db/.ApacheVersion file to 2 and then tried copying httpd.conf and sites from a working version of a clean install of 10.5 where I had gotten the virtual hosts to work. I am at a loss. I would be willing to do a clean install of Apache 2 but I am not sure how to do that.
    Interestingly, the mailman pages work for the virtual hosts but no matter what I seem to do, the other web pages for the different sites default to the "Documents" directory.
    Thanks for any help you can provide.
    Paul

    The plot thickens...
    When I do a ps -ax, I see the following processes:
    untitled text 6:16: 47 ?? 0:01.29 /usr/sbin/httpd-1.3 -F -D LAUNCHD
    untitled text 6:43: 102 ?? 0:00.13 /usr/sbin/httpd-1.3 -F -D LAUNCHD
    untitled text 6:80: 325 ?? 0:00.13 /usr/sbin/httpd-1.3 -F -D LAUNCHD

    untitled text 6:94: 2042 ?? 0:01.61 /usr/sbin/httpd -D FOREGROUND
    untitled text 6:104: 2079 ?? 0:00.60 /usr/sbin/httpd -D FOREGROUND
    untitled text 6:105: 2082 ?? 0:00.55 /usr/sbin/httpd -D FOREGROUND
    Also, looking in Console, it appears that errors are being logged in the /var/httpd/ error and access log files and not in the log files assigned by ServerAdmin /var/log/apache2... Though ServerAdmin suggests that I am running 2.2, it appears that I may still be running 1.3. Any suggestions?

  • Apache virtual host with OSX Server?

    I have been running OSX Server for a while now, and just recently I decided to get McMyAdmin for my Minecraft server. The web client for McMyAdmin runs on port 8080, but I wanted it on port 80. I wanted to use it with my domain, so I just created a sub domain and pointed it to my server. The problem is that OSX Server apparently doesn't let me use port 80, even when websites are turned off. I decided to delete Server and just use plain apache. This worked until I realized that my website was only accessible locally. I have all the correct ports forwarded, etc. But I get the error:
    Response Error.
    Technical description:
    502 Bad Gateway - Response Error, a bad response was received from another proxy server or the destination origin server.
    when I try to connect from outside my network. This is probably just some simple thing I missed but it would be nice if someone could just point out what I did wrong here. Back to the point, I want to know how to run the proxy to my web client on port 8080 AND ALSO run OSX Server with or without apache virtualhost.
    Thanks in advance,
    Eamon

    Web is stupidly easy - Apache has extensive support for multiple virtual hosts in a single server and will happily support as many domains/hostnames as you can throw at it.
    Mail is a little trickier since it needs to hook into some kind of directory server to validate user addresses.
    Mac OS X's Open Directory does support this, but it's a little cumbersome (basically every user has to exist in the main Open Directory domain as well as having a secondary email address(es) in the other domain(s).
    This can get especially tricky when you have users with the same shortname in different domains - for example if you give [email protected] a secondary email address of [email protected] and you then get a new user [email protected], you can't give the third 'joe' the address 'joe' in Open Directory since that's already taken. This means he'll have to login using different credentials from his email address. Confused yet? You bet.
    If you're prepared to eschew Open Directory you can just use Postfix's built-in support for virtual hosting, but it's a little more complex to setup and support and is entirely command-line based (i.e. there's no GUI for setting it up or supporting it).
    So, for that reason you might be prepared to setup multiple virtual machines for each domain. It really depends on how much the domains are related (if at all).

  • How to get virtual hosts to have their own default webapps?

    Is there a way to have several virtual hosts to have their own default
    webapps?
    I have five virtual hosts on my server, and I used to be able to deploy the
    webapps to the server, target a server and a virtual host, and then the
    default app to use. But I can't see that anymore in wls8.1. I looked
    around the web for some help, and all I could find was some reference to the
    <context-root> node. The problem with that solution is, when I put that in
    each of the webapps for the virtual hosts, only one gets the "/"
    context-root, and the rest can't use that.
    I would like to be able to have users just type out the virtual hosts URL to
    get access to the webapp. Surely a server as powerful as WebLogic can do
    that. I used to be able to do this in 7.0sp1. Any ideas? Thanks.

    Unfortunately you cannot split (nor merge) items purchased with an AppleID.  I am not clear on what you will have to do to allow them continued access to their music on your account.  Apple no longer has DRM protection in its music but then I also hear people have all kinds of authorization issues when trying to synch so it sounds like they still keep restrictions on what you can do with the music when trying to move it about.  I'll let somebody more experienced with syncing answer this part.  You may have to authorize their computers and devices to your AppleID to allow them all functionality with the music.
    Ideally you would have set them up with their own AppleIDs years ago but...
