Sequence Generator problem in OWB Mapping

Hi,
I am using a Sequence Generator in my Dimension mapping. And OWB implements the mapping via an Oracle MERGE statement.
However when I execute the mapping my sequence number value gets incremented even when there are only updates and no inserts taking place during the execution.
I am using the sequence number only for inserts and not for updates in the mapping.
Is there a way to avoid this situation or a work around to this problem? This is very urgent and any help in this area would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hi
I also have the same problem as I loose the seq numbers when there are updates only and I do not want to loose thousands of seq numbers. I tried with bulk size =1 as well as row based only execution but no result.
The thing which solved this problem is to have outer join with source and target, then use splitter to find out new and updated records (by looking the join key as null on target table side), then use a fuction to generate seq number when the key is not null. But doing all this does not seem to be elegant performance point of you. I do not want to join source and target due to performance issues.
Could you pl clrify your apprach. Are you using , Source minus target and Source Intersect Target . What you will do if there is no one to one matching between source and the target.
Thanks

  • Problem in OWB map for source change capture

    The problem is as follows:-
    Our OWB map between two different databases, captures change in data at source and populates them in target. It is a one to one map. The map is failing to process some rows from source database though it gives no:of errors as 0 in the audit view thus we infer that the map is running successfully.
    In our case, we have a composite key ( Instance_id, Version_number) at source as well as target. One instance_id can has more than one version number. We have observed that the view is picking up all the version_number for a particular instance_id but the map is unable to populate the last version_number to the target table.
    But when this map was executed in another environment and it is successfully populating all the data in the target.
    The brief description of the map is as follows:-
    The map has a view which captures all the changes in data (insert and update) .From this view we filter the rows which were already processed in previous map run (with help of watermark). Then we sort the rows based on DML type and watermark . These rows are then mapped to a target table. The loading type of the map is INSERT/UPDATE.

  • Row movement Disabled at DB- creating problems in OWB mapping

    Hi All,
    We have a OWB mapping 'XXXXX' with Default operating mode set to 'setbased-failover to rowbased' mode.The generation mode is set to 'Row Based'.This is called in a processFlow 'YYY'
    This was running fine until sometime ago.
    Recently at the database row movement on tables was disabled.
    After this the 'YYYY' fails with a 'Warning:ORA-01403: no data found' when it calls 'XXXXX'.
    Any idea on what this means.Is it something to do with the row movement disablin done recently?
    Is the default operating mode and generation mode combination selected by us valid.
    Please provide any inputs /queries by which we can trace the exact problem.
    Many Thanks!!
    BRgds
    Sridha

    I don't think that issue will be with OWB.
    take generated code and run in directly in database and check are you getting the same error.
    Cheers

  • Sequence initialize problem with pre-mapping process

    Hi,
    I use a pre-mapping process in a mapping which executes a function which :
    a) drops a sequence
    b) re-creates the dropped sequence ( CREATE SEQUENCE xxxx START WITH 1)
    But OWB creates always the sequence beginning with 21 as value ?
    If I executes the procedure in SQL manually then it works fine and starts the sequence with 1.
    Is there an explanation for this action (bug ?) ?
    Thanks in advvance,
    Eric

    Hi,
    Its always better to create the sequence manually,import it into OWB and then use it.

  • Generating code in OWB mapping for valid operating modes

    Hi all,
    When i generate the map in OWB it will generate a code in default operating mode. But it's written in OWB documents that During code generation, Warehouse Builder generates code for the specified default operating mode as well as the unselected modes.
    Can i find the generating code for the unselected modes? If possible then how can i find? Plzz help.
    Regards,
    Sumanta

    Hi Sumanta.
    If my understanding is right than you are looking for a error handling feature in OWB. Well in such case you need to look at the concept of Shadow Tables in OWB. TO know more about the fucnctionality of shadow tables please follow this link.
    Using Data Rules
    It has most of the information. If you still hav any clarifications, you can post it here.
    I dont know much about operating modes.
    Hope this is what you were looking for!

  • OWB's Sequence Generator

    Is there an option within OWB's Sequence Generator to reset the start value to '1' each time we run it. I know there is an option where we can give the start value and increment value but i did not see an option to reset the start value each time we run it.Our requirement is to run the same mapping daily and when we deploy the sequence generator in OWB it is picking up the last value for the surrogate key and assiging the next value when the mapping is run the next day. Please suggest'
    - Note Reset is necessary

    Hi,
    We use what Carsten also suggested, a pre-mapping procedure call. Our procedure is called RESET_SEQUENCE. In the mapping I have a constant operator with 2 output fields: the sequence generator name and a start value. These 2 ports are connected to the pre-mapping process operator with the same 2 input ports.
    The function in the pre-mapping process operator properties is simply and only the name of the procedure: reset_sequence.
    This is working fine for us. Every time the mapping is run, the sequence is reset to 1.
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE reset_sequence (seq_name IN VARCHAR2, startvalue IN INTEGER)
    AS
    cval INTEGER;
    inc_by VARCHAR2(25);
    BEGIN
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'ALTER SEQUENCE ' ||seq_name||' MINVALUE 0';
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'SELECT ' ||seq_name ||'.NEXTVAL FROM dual' INTO cval;
    cval := cval - startvalue + 1;
    IF cval < 0 THEN
    inc_by := ' INCREMENT BY ';
    cval := ABS(cval);
    ELSE
    inc_by := ' INCREMENT BY -';
    END IF;
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'ALTER SEQUENCE ' || seq_name || inc_by || cval;
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'SELECT ' ||seq_name ||'.NEXTVAL FROM dual' INTO cval;
    EXECUTE IMMEDIATE 'ALTER SEQUENCE ' || seq_name || ' INCREMENT BY 1';
    END reset_sequence;
    Hope this helps,

  • Problem in running OWB maps

    Hi ,
    We use DBMS to kick our OWB maps.Previously it worked very fine ..But from near about 2 weeks we are facing problems.
    Problem is though our JOB_QUEUE_PROCESS is set to 8 and even I can see 8 jobs with this_data populated in dba_jobs (means jobs are running as we cannot query DBA_JOBS_RUNNING view to see the no of jobs running as it is taking too much time ) we can see only entry of two of there maps in WB_RT_AUDIT.other maps start only if these two get complete .
    and there is huge time difference between actual job start time and the entry into WB_RT_AUDIT table .
    can any one help us with solution.
    Bcos of this issues load which used to take max 4 hours is now taking 24 hours..
    Thanks & Regards

    I've successfully installed OWF as described in Installation guide (all components are on the sam server).
    But when I deploy a workflow in OWB I get some errors. In the job details
    I find ORA-00942 and RPE-02053. It seems that the workflow repository is missing.
    Are there additional steps for creating a workflow repository?
    Or what is wrong? All installation logs (wf.log and workflow.log) are without errors and with success messages.
    Any idea?

  • Generating the ombplus commands from an owb mapping

    Hi,
    Is it possible to generate the ombplus commands from an owb mapping, which is already developed through OWB GUI? I am looking for some sort of re-engineering the ombplus code from a owb mapping - is there any way to achieve this?
    Thanks,

    it will be in 10gR2...

  • URGENT:Problem in a mapping with 8 tables in JOIN and using the DEDUP op.

    I have an urgent problem with a mapping: I must load data from 8 source tables (joined togheter) in a target table.
    Some data from 1 of the 8 tables have to be deduplicated, so I created a sort of staging table where I inserted the "cleaned" data, I mean, the deduplicated ones.
    I made it to make all the process faster.
    Then, I joined the 8 tabled, writing the join conditions in the operator properties, and connected the outputs into the fields of the target table.
    But..it does not work because this kind of mapping create a cartesian product.
    Then, I tried again with another mapping builted up in this way: after the joiner operator, I used the Match-Merge Operator and I load all data into a staging table exactly alike the target one, except for the PK (because it is a sequence). Then, I load the data from this staging table into the target one, and, of course, I connect to the target table also the sequence (the primary key). The first loading works fine (and load all the data as I expected).
    For the next loadings,I scheduled a pre-mapping process that truncate the staging table and re-load the new data.
    But..it does not work. I mean, It doesn't update the data previously loaded (or inser the new ones), but only insert the data, not considering the PK.
    So, my questions are as follow:
    1) Why loading the data directly from the joiner operator into the fact table doesn't work? Why does it generate a cartesian product??
    2) The "escamotage" to use the Match-Merge operator is correct? I have to admit that I didn't understand very well the behaviour of this operator...
    3) And, most of all, HOW CAN I LOAD MY DATA? I cannot find a way out....

    First of all, thanks for the answer!
    Yes, I inserted the proper join condition and in fact I saw that when WB generates the script it considers my join but, instead of using the fields in a single select statement, it builts up many sub-selects. Furthermore, it seems as it doesn't evaluate properly the fields coming from the source tables where I inserted the deduplicated data...I mean, the problems seems not to be the join condition, but the data not correctly deduplicated..

    Hi,
    To know the correct error Take the Inbound Payload from MONI and Test it in Mapping Test TAB. then u will come to know the exact error.
    Procedure to take the Payload
    goto MONI-Double click on MessageInbound Message ( CENTRAL ) --Payloads ---Double click on MainDocument ( application/xml ) -Just Right Click on the second window-View Source
    then now Copy this and paste it in Mapping Test and Execute.

  • Transformations not occuring properly using PIVOT operator in OWB mapping.

    Hi ,
    In our project we have a OWB Map UII_D_MAP_SPC_CUST_FAULT_NATTR which is used to populate UII_CUSTOMER_FAULT table in our target side.
    The source table which populate UII_CUSTOMER_FAULT is SR_S_TABLE_N_ATTRIBUTEVALUE (a materialized view in another External Db)
    This Mview has 2 columns: S_N_STRINGVALUE & N_NAME.
    When N_NAME is 'FAULT_REPORT_CODE' the corresponding S_N_STRINGVALUE value should populate the REPORT_CODE field in UII_CUSTOMER_FAULTin the target sde.
    This source to target transformations is being done by using UNPIVOT operator in this mapping UII_MAP_SPC_CUST_FAULT_NATTR.
    In ideal case when S_N_STRINGVALUE is NOT NULL, REPORT_CODE value should be populated with the value of source field value (ie the value of S_N_STRINGVALUE) and when S_N_STRINGVALUE is NULL , REPORT_CODE should be populated with 'XX'.
    But in some cases REPORT_CODE value in UII_CUSTOMER_FAULT table is populated as NULL when S_N_STRINGVALUE is NOT NULL
    which should not happen.
    We suspect that there is some prpblem in the UNPIVOT operator, but we are not able to track down the exact location where it is failing. Can you please help in resolving this problem?
    Shall we remove Unpivot operator and use CASE statement in some package that will be called through Expression operator?
    Please advise.

    Arinjit,
    Have got any solution forthis. Today I ran into exactly the same problem. If you have got the solution, can you please post it in the forum.
    Ott Karesz,
    I have posted my SQL which got generated. The problem is when I am running the SQL just for the particular data set, it is giving the output properly. But what confuses me more is, when I run the mapping just for few records, it is populating the values correctly, but when running the mapping for all the records, then it populates null values for those records.

  • SQL Query of an OWB map (row based)

    If I trace a session, execute an OWB map (row based), will the trace file contain the actual SQL query ?
    The problem with me is that when I am executing this row -based OWB map, it is throwing me an error CursorFetchMapTerminationRTV20007 BUT ( plus taking a long time) when I am taking out the intermediate SQL insert query,it is working fine ( and also within a very short period of time)
    Execution status = COMPLETE
    message text = ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small
    message text = CursorFetchMapTerminationRTV20007
    No. task errors = 0
    No. task warnings = 2
    No. errors = 1
    Since this OWB map (Truncate Insert)  is row based hence I cannot cannot get the back end query from the OWB generated pl/sql package so wondering if I trace the session, check the trace file, may be I will able to see the exact SQL query generated. But wanted to confirm the same.

    Yes, the actual SQL run in the session will be in the trace file.

  • Regarding default select clauses executing during OWB Mapping execution -

    All-
    While observing the statements executing during an OWB(11gR2) Mapping execution,by monitoring the session using SQL Developer
    Iam finding the following statements executing multiple times and possibly consuming more of the mapping execution time:-
    SELECT MAX(EXECUTION_AUDIT_ID) FROM ALL_RT_AUDIT_MAP_RUNS WHERE MAP_NAME = :B1
    SELECT SYS_CONTEXT('owb_workspace' , 'workspaceID' ) FROM DUAL
    SELECT nvl2(translate(20040101, 'A1234567890','A'), 'F', 'T') FROM DUAL
    SELECT USER FROM SYS.DUAL
    These statements have no relation to be business logic being implemented.And seem to be generated by OWB default settings.
    Can anyone please let me know how to reduce the frequencey of the above mentioned statements or if possible remove them from the OWB mapping execution.
    So that the mapping would run more faster

    Hi,
    these statement are required to set the runtime audit data. Usually, they do not really impact the performance of a mapping so there is not need to bother about them.
    What causes performance problems is usually the business logic part of the mappings.
    You may purge old runtime metadata manually. Look at the script
    %ORACLE_HOME%\owb\rtp\jrtaudit\owbsys\purge_audit_tables.sqlDocumentation is included.
    Regards,
    Carsten.

  • Issues with Sequence Generator

    I'm having trouble with Sequence generator not generating continuous numbers starting from 1, each time I run the mapping.
    I want the Sequence to start from 1, each time the mapping is run. For this to happen, I'm using a pre-mapping operator which uses an oracle procedure to reset the sequence.
    But, the sequence generates the numbers from some weird number, say 3508 and then jumps to 5006 and so on. I'm not able to track what's wrong with the sequence. I have stopped the caching in Sequence but still it hasn't helped. I'm sure and have verified that the procedure being used to reset the sequence is running fine.
    Please suggest some additional parameters/properties at OWB level to be checked for the sequence, if any OR any thoughts on why the sequence is not starting from 1. Thanks in advance.
    Thanks,
    Sachin

    Could you check whether the sequence you use has a cache value greater than 1 defined in the database. This way if your database regularly should be stoped, e.g for offline backup, you'll loose the sequence values that were unused in memory at that time. That way the gaps in your surrogate ids would be explainable.

  • Rows to columns in owb mapping

    Hi,
    I have a transformation operator in my OWB mapping where in a sequence value is generated. The sequence value is populated into two target tables.
    Now my code populates the below value 10 to two target tables which was generted by my transformation operator .
    KEY     VALUE
    1     10
    Now my requirement changed in such a way that based the key i need to generate multiple values
    i.e the output from transformation operator is
    Key     Value1     Value2
    2     10     11
    This should be populated in my target tables as
    Key     Value
    2     10
    2     11
    Please explain me how can I implement in my owb mapping.
    Many thanks in advance,
    Yeswanth

    Key is 1 and value that was generated by sequence is 10.
    in my target table both the key and the value 10 are loading now.
