Sequence in process flow (output from mapping)

I have a mapping where I am using sequence operator and creating a record in the target table I need to pass this variable out of the mapping and as input to another mapping. I am not able to pass the sequence out of the mapping. How can we assign values to mapping output variables however I do it it says you cannot assign variables to output parameters from the mapping it says.
mapping input parameter and mapping output parameter are intended to be executed before and after the data flow of the mapping and cannopt accept inputs from any part of the data flow.
Any ideas as to how this can be done.
Can a pluggable mapping be called in a process flow.
Thanks

Hi,
write a plsql-function that executes returns seq_XXX.currval (or, to be on the safe side, select the value from your table).
Assign that value to an output attribute.
And no, pluggable mappings can just be included from other mappings, there is no way to execute them directly.

Carsten.

  • Process flow hangs when mapping execution fails

    Hi,
    Has anyone faced the 'process flow hanging' problem after upgrading to OWB 9.2.0.4? Don't know why this is happening again after the upgrade. The audit browser clearly indicates one of the mappings has failed and workflow tables indicate there was a notification upon failure. The process flow runs several sub process flows each containing 5-6 mappings.
    Also, the mapping that failed (due to unique key violations on the target table) executed the post mapping stored procedure although the post mapping run condition was set to 'ON SUCCESS'. Is this the expected behaviour for the post mapping operator when there are database related failures?
    Our environment is OWB 9.2.0.4 on AIX 5.2.
    Database version is 9.2.0.5. We recently upgraded the database from 9.2.0.4 to 9.2.0.5 and OWB from 9.2.0.2.8 to 9.2.0.4. Process flows are executed using sqlplus.
    Thanks,
    Chethan

    Hi,
    I would expect you to have less issues with 9204 as there were some fixes applied. So I have not seen this before.
    To get into the mapping a little bit more, is this a row based mapping that is under the tresshold? In any case, if you specify "on success" I would expect it to only work on success... A database related error will also cause it to get an error, so this is interesting as well.
    Does the error repeat at any case if there is a failure?

  • Process Flow Execution of Mapping results in ORA-01403: no data found

    Hi,
    When the Mapping is run standalone, it runs fine, but when run through a Process Flow, it generates ORA-01403 on a FILTER within the Mapping.
    What should be the debug steps. The RTE_ROWKEY is mentioned as 0 and does not help.
    OWB Version is 9.2.0.2.8
    - Jojo

    So, when I submit the form, the Apex error I see is:
    ORA-01403: no data found
    Error     Unable to process row of table fRQ (the debug is also posted in mail earlier)
    Thanks

  • Process flow run success but underline mapping sql still running

    We have mapping A and B in process flow. We configured Enumerated Condition (success) in mapping A to kick off mapping B after A is success. But the underline SQL in A took long time to finish therefore mapping B starts before data loading is finished in A. We need to finish mapping A loading data first (not submit the job),  What could be the best approach for this condition.
    Thanks,
    frank

    Here is the actual scenario. In my process flow I have mapping A and B, both loading data from source to target. I put Enumerated Condition (success) in mapping A so that B start only if A is done. When the job is in completed status in control center, I open job details I notice the mapping A is still running even B is finished. I guess my questions:
    1. how to run mappings in order?
    2. how do we really know the process flow job is completed?
    Thanks for help!

  • Process flow/map performance issues

    We have some issues with our OWB-based application and we're looking to find out if there are different ways we could be using the tool, or features/options we've missed.
    We are trying to maintain a near real time feed of data from a front end system into our warehouse which was built using OWB 10.2.0.3 over a 10.2.0.4 database. The bulk of the application consists of OWB maps with a few hand-written PL/SQL objects, all executed in a series of hierachical OWB process flows. Maps/transformations are executed either sequentially or in parallel where the referential integrity of the model allows.
    The problem is that we have around 150 tables in the datamart which could potentially require updating on each refresh cycle, although in practice only a few tables have any activity on a typical refresh cycle. The cycle consists of loading data into a set of staging tables, and from there the data is transformed into the main schema, often with multiple maps per target table.
    On every cycle we run hundreds of maps, the vast majority of which process zero rows. Each map runs quickly and efficiently in its own right but collectively they add up to a 5 - 10 min cycle even if there is no data to process.
    There are 2 avenues which we'd like to explore and would be grateful if anyone could provide any pointers/suggestions :-
    1) It appears that each map opens and closes its own database session when it executes. I presume this was done because a single process flow could be constructed with maps executing in different target schemas, but we know that's not the case for us. We'd like to know if there is anyway to configure the database connection at a higher level (eg. process flow) so it opens a connection once and executes each of the maps (database packages) in that one session.
    Our DBAs are experimenting with 'shared server' settings at a database level which may help to some degree but won't be the whole story.
    2) Another option is simply to run less maps eg. load the staging area as now, collate stats on which staging tables contain new data, and then apply some logic such that subsequent maps only execute if the relevant staging table(s) contain(s) some new data, otherwise bypass that map.
    We tried experimenting with the 'Pre Mapping Process' operator, but essentially that just generates another function call from the map package, so we still have the overhead of opening a database session for each map to run the package. Minimal gain.
    We thought about adding a function call in the process flow before each map and then branching to either execute/bypass the map as approriate, but the function call still requires opening/closing of a database session each time so, once again, minimal gain.
    What we really want is some way for a map or process flow to check without logging onto the database repeatedly.
    Any ideas on the above, or other potential solutions anyone could suggest, would be greatly appreciated.

  • Mapping runs through Deployment Manager but hangs in Process Flow

    Hi,
    I have a Mapping bound in a simple Process Flow.
    The mapping deploys through Deployment Manager and runs. It currently processes no rows and takes a couple of seconds to do that. It completes with a Success message.
    However, when I wrap it into a simple Process Flow...
    --- w ---> END_WARNING
    START ---> MY_MAPPING ---- s ---> END_SUCCESS
    --- e ---> END_ERROR
    .., deploy this and run it through the Deployment Manager, it hangs. I get the 'Execution in progress...' window with the moving graphic forever.
    The Runtime Repository Browser Execution Report tells me that it is 'Busy', and if I drill down to the Process Flow Run Execution Report, I see an identical Start and End Time, an Elapsed Time of 0 seconds, and no other details (Execution Parameters, Activity Details or Error Messages).
    Looking under 'Find Processes' on the Workflow Home Page, my workflow has no status in the Process List. Drilling down to the Diagram, I have a green line from the 'Start' element to my Mapping but the Mapping itself has no special colour.
    I go back to the Deployment Manager and cancel the job - which it does and reports that it 'Completed with errors'.
    The Runtime Repository Browser Execution Report now tells me that it is 'Busy' (with an information bubble), and if I drill down to the Process Flow Run Execution Report, I see different Start and End Times, and Elapsed Time of n seconds, a single Error Message 'RPE-01002: The operation was aborted at user request.', and no other details (Execution Parameters, Activity Details).
    Looking under 'Find Processes' on the Workflow Home Page, my workflow has a status of 'Complete' in the Process LIst. Drilling down to the Diagram, I still have a green line from the 'Start' element to my Mapping and the Mapping itself still has no colour and no indication that it has stopped.
    I'm running:
    Oracle9i EE 9.2.0.5.0
    Oracle10g OWB Client 10.2.0.1.0
    Oracle10g OWB Repository 10.1.0.1.0
    Anybody know how I can go about tracking down why this Process Flow is hanging - and, of course, getting it unhung :-)
    Regards
    Steve

    Hello Steve,
    It's a little difficult to read the exact flow from your ASCII graphics.
    However, from your description it seems your workflow task only has an outgoing success connector, and your execution was not a success. This will stop the execution of that branch of your process flow, since there are no valid routes to take. If you only have a single branch in your workflow, the process flow is stuck.
    To expedite your hung process you just click on the task icon in the Workflow Monitor graph window that does not have a green outgoing connector, press the Expedite button and select skip.
    Corollary: If you use conditional connectors, always use all 3 from a task. I not using all 3, have a very good understanding of why you don't.

  • How to bind mapping input parameter in process flow using OMB Plus

    Hi
    I have created a process flow with a mapping.
    This mapping has a input parameter, that I want to bind to a variable using OMBPlus
    OMBALTER PROCESS_FLOW '$process' MODIFY PARAMETER 'P_EOD_DATE_IN' SET PROPERTIES (BINDING) VALUES ('V_EOD_DATE') does not work as P_EOD_DATE is NOT a process parameter
    neither does
    OMBALTER PROCESS_FLOW '$process' MODIFY PARAMETER '$mapname/P_EOD_DATE_IN' SET PROPERTIES (BINDING) VALUES ('V_EOD_DATE') as the reference '$mapname/P_EOD_DATE_IN' is not valid.

  • Call/Invoke an OWB Process Flow from a Windows Command/batch

    Hi everyone,
    I'm newbie in Oracle Warehouse Builder and I've developed some process flows to load data from one database to another.
    One of these process, called "MAIN", is the beginning of the execution. I need to call these process flow (MAIN) from the Windows Command Line
    or batch (.bat file) to schedule in Windows Sckeduler Tasks.
    Anyone have an idea to how to do this?

    Check this blog post here that shows how to execute via sqlplus, which you will then be able to wrapper in a batch script or whatever to schedule.

  • Process Flow Error

    I ran into a problem with one of my process flows, within my staging area. I have not had this problem before. My process flow looks as follows:
    --- > Map2
    --- > Map3
    --- > Map4
    Map1 --- > Fork --- > Map5 --- > AND --- > Map 9 --- > Map10 --- > Map11 …
    --- > Map6
    --- > Map7
    --- > Map8
    Mappings 1 through 8 ran successfully and populated their staging tables. The process flow showed success of mappings 9 through 16 (the last one) and successful completion of the process flow. However Mapping 9 was still extracting data and had not yet loaded its staging table. I was watching the execution in OEM. Mappings 10 through 16 did not execute after completion of Mapping 9.
    This is a weekly large data load into our data warehouse so I will not be able to run this process flow again until this weekend. Map 9 was running with a degree of parallelism of 16, if it matters, and did not fail.
    Has anyone run into this issue before?
    Thanks.

  • Using a function within a process flow...

    Hi,
    I'm trying to figure out a way of using a function (or something else) to return a status before attempting to run a mapping. I'd like to have a table with all my mappings, start date, end date, status, etc.
    1. SELECT status FROM table, if the mapping has already been executed do nothing, else execute the mapping, etc.
    Is there a way to accomplish that in OWB flow ?
    Thank you.
    Gaétan

    Hi,
    We had a similiar set up in my previous role where we have a Process flow for each mapping. Under that processflow, before attempting to run the mapping we called function to check whether that particular mapping has been run successfully for that date. The function would take "PF Name" as an input and returns the status as 1 (return success - the mapping was not run, so has to be run today)
    2 (return warning - the mapping is already run no need to run this time)
    3 ( any fatal errors).
    The function code is as below - _______________________________________________________
    CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION "PUB_CHECK_RUN_STATUS"("IN_ETL_PROCESS_FLOW_NAME" IN VARCHAR2) RETURN NUMBER IS
    --initialize variables here
    lv_Current_Load_Id NUMBER;
    lv_Last_Load_Id NUMBER;
    BEGIN
         <<Check_PF_Status>>                    -- This block is Standard for all Loads Jobs
         BEGIN
              SELECT LOAD_ID
              INTO lv_Current_Load_Id
              FROM LOAD_ADMIN.LATEST_LOAD;
              SELECT LAST_COMPLETE_LOAD_ID
              INTO lv_Last_Load_Id
              FROM LOAD_ADMIN.ETL_PROCESS_FLOW
              WHERE ETL_PROCESS_FLOW_NAME = in_ETL_Process_Flow_Name;
              IF Lv_Last_Load_Id = lv_Current_Load_Id
              THEN
                   -- This Process Flow has already been completed during this Load, so do not re-run
                   RETURN 2;          -- Returns a Warning Status
              ELSE
                   -- This Process Flow has not completed during this load, so need to run this now
                   RETURN 1;          -- Returns a Success Status
              END IF;
         END Check_PF_Status;
    EXCEPTION
    WHEN OTHERS THEN
    RETURN 3;     -- Returns an Error Status
    RETURN NULL;
    END;
    In the above code
    LATEST_LOAD is a view which always returns one row with current load information (like load _id, start time etc)
    ETL_PROCESS_FLOW is a table containing one row for each process flow with information like (execution status, load_id when it was execute )
    You can modify to suit your requirements.

  • Process flow hangs in state "bussy"

    Hi,
    We are encountering what seems to be a "random" problem when runing process flows. In about 1 out of 4 runs the flow "hangs" with status "busy"
    The technical specs are as follows:
    OWB 9.2.0.2.8 on WIN2K Server SP4.
    There are two runtime repositories on two different WIN2K database servers (Oracle 9.2.0.4 EE)
    The symptoms are as follows:
    - We have more than 10 process flows containing from 15 to 60 processes. The problem is not related any single process flow, and occurs on both our target servers.
    - The process flows runs OK in approximately 3 out of four runs.
    - When the process flows "hangs", one or more of the processes in the process flow also hangs in the "busy" state. The hanging process can be a mapping or an external process
    - The processes that have status "busy" have actually finished. They have a completion time set, and in the case where the process sends mail, the mail has been received. In the case of mappings I have verified that the mapping has completed, and that the session performing mapping has terminated.
    - When the problem occurs, there is always the same "lock" pattern displaying in OEM:
    Username Session IdLockMode HelMode Requ Object Name ROWID Object OwnObject T Resource ID1 Resource ID2
    OWBRT92 17TM ROW SHARNONE WB_RT_SERVICE_QUEUE_TAB OWBRT92 TABLE 61161 0

    OWBRT92 67TX EXCLUSIVNONE 262151 87564
    Session 17 is the runtime service, and these two locks are present under normal operation. Session 48 is the Sqlplus session runing the execution template, and session 67 is (i think) the session that is causing the problem.
    - The advanced queue WB_RT_NOTIFY_QUEUE tab shows "Number in state ready" equal to the number of processes still in the state "busy" i the process flow.
    - When the runtime service is stoped (using the stop_service.sql) The locking sessions disappears.
    - When the service is restarted, the processes change status to "bussy recovery" There is now a RPE-01008 and a RPE-01009 message in the "errors" section for the mapping.
    - After the failed recovery, everything looks normal, except that there are now twice the number of messages in state READY on the WB_RT_NOTIFICATION_QUEUE. The only way I have found to get rid of these is to delete them from the queue table.
    Is this a known problem? We are about to go live in a few weeks, and this could be a serious show stopper if we can't rely on the daily process flows to run as expected.
    I could log a TAR on this, but I suspect support would ask for a test case, and Im going to have a hard time providing it for them in this case.

    Jean-Pierre,
    Thanks for the update. I was afraid this was going to be one of those "hard to pinpoint" issues...
    When the problems occurs the Worflow Monitor always shows the task status as "Notified".
    The "Main routine" is no longer executing. The session that was executing the mapping has disconnected, and the mapping has completed successfully. (I have verified this by checking the rows in the target tables). Also, the problem is not restricted to mappings. Sometimes it happens to "mail notifications", and in these cases the mail message is received as expected.
    It looks to me like there is some kind of synchronization problem between AQ and the controlling process (the runtime access user session) that can arise under a given condition (which I unfortunately have not been able to determine what is). As far as I can tell, the process executing the mapping completes and puts the message that it has completed on the Notify_Queue (hence the messages in stat "Ready" on the queue), but for some reason the process waiting to read the message fails to do so.
    As for a test case, I have recently sent an export of our design repository to Igor Machin. Is it possible for you to have a look at that? As I mentioned in the first post, our Process Flows are fairly complex. Some of the flows are executing 50+ mappings in parallel.

    Hello,
    For Oppertunistic Cross dock..
    You need to create either Putaway TO/Pick TO and then system checks the cross doc and cancel the TO and create a new TO from 902 to 916. and also updates in the document flow. This  you can do with out Cross dock monitor. With out planning the cross dock you can do the cross docking by following the config in help.sap.com.

  • Syntax to launch an OWB process flow via shell

    Hi all,
    do you know what's the syntax to launch a process flow o a mapping via shell?
    I need it to schedule a process flow via crontab.
    Thanks in advance
    Steve

    Hi Steve,
    use SQL*Plus for executing OWB script sqlplus_exec_background_template.sql/sqlplus_exec_template.sql (these scripts are located in OWBHOME/owb/rtp/sql directory) or stored function WB_RT_API_EXEC.RUN_TASK.
    You need connect with SQL*Plus to any registered OWB user on target (DWH) database (for example, you can connect as target schema).
    For more details look at chapter [Using SQL*Plus to Schedule and Execute Jobs|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B31080_01/doc/owb.102/b28225/api_4sqlforjobs.htm#i1064950] from OWB API and Scripting Reference (it is for OWB10gR2, for OWB11g procedure is slightly different).

    Oleg
