Sequencing of tasks in STS

Hi,
We are on BI 7.0 and are implementing Integrated Planning. We have set up the Status Tracking System. It works fine. However, within a particular node in the STS, there are 5 Web Templates assigned and these have to be executed in a sequence due to inter-dependencies. How can we achieve this? Is it to be done using STS at all or is there some other functionality?

Hi,
Let me explain - I have two planners - one who plans the quantities of Sales and another who plans the prices and the Revenues. From the Organization perspective, once the Revenue Plan is ready, it is to be sent for approval to the Sales manager. Now, these two planners will obviously have to be in the  same level since if I put one above the other, he will become the approving authority for the lower level. However, I also want ensure that the Prices are planned only after the quantities are planned. Hence, once the quantities are planned, a notifcation/mail must be sent to the price planner though he doesnt approve the quantity plan. Hope this puts the issue in perspective!

  • Is there a way to start a Sequence with Task Manager (Windows)

    Hi
Is there a way to start a Sequence with Task Manager (Windows)?

    Hi,
That is too bad I can not schedule my action Wizard to run via Windows scheduler... The funney things about is that on the same machine that I have created the Action Wizard and saved to to my desktop via export, when I click on it to run it asks me you want to Import that action to your Acrobat Pro X? Okay or Cancel... That Action is already there in my action Wizard List and I have exported from this same machine and I was trying to see if I can schedule it via this command:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 10.0\Acrobat <C:\Users\Bahram\Desktop\OCRFaxedPDFs.sequ

My problem is how create a delay with few microseconds between two tasks?
    I need creat three tasks.
Fisrt create a finte pulse train for this i use a counter.
Second create a delay for this i use again a conter to creat a pulse train in witch the delay is equal to frequency x number of pulses.
Third measure pulses for this i use again a counter but in this case is a counter input.
In attachment i send a picture with my program.
I dont understand why my program dont work? my program take a lote of time during the excution. I think the problem is  between stop une task and start another i would like know how i can resolve the problem if is possible.

  • Using partition variable in task sequence

I need to configure a piece of software as part of a task sequence to direct some of its files to a specific partition.  I have the ts creating 3 partitions and I'm specifying variables for each: DataDisk = 10GB, UsersDisk = 100GB, OSDisk = 100% remaining
    free space.
The 100GB partition is the one I need the software to use. In the "Custom Tasks" section of the ts "Dump MDT Variables" step dumps all MDT variables to a text file on the local machine so I can see at that time UsersDisk = D:\, DataDisk
= C:\ and OSDisk = V:\, but after the deployment finishes UsersDisk = E:\.  Also in the "Custom Tasks" section I'm running the "Configure Data Igloo" to configure the program.  Is there a way to set UsersDisk = E:\ before I run
the "Configure Data Igloo" step when there's also an internal DVD drive likely using E:\?
Edit: I should add that it's all working properly at the moment but the "Configure Data Igloo" step is referencing E:\, not %UsersDisk% and I see this causing problems latter.  Does anyone know how the drive letters are assigned?  That is,
why does %DataDisk% = D:\ and %UsersDisk%= E:\ after deployment, why not the reverse?

Thanks for the reply Keith.  I'm not thrilled about having to customize the partition structure either but because we use Deep Freeze we need use Data Igloo to cache user profiles on a partition other than C:\.
What I've ended up doing is using the 'Set Task Sequence Variable' tasks to set DataDisk = D:\ and UsersDisk = E:\ and then I can reference these variables for the task that configures Data Igloo.  To be clear for anyone trying to follow this, I'm not
actually changing the letter assigned to the partitions, I'm just assigning a value to a variable which is then referenced in later task sequence steps.
The thing that I'm not sure about is how the partition letters are assigned.  In my case the DataDisk partition is always assigned D:\ and UsersDisk is always assigned E:\.  I thought it might be alphabetical but I changed the 'Format and Partition
Disk' step to rename UsersDisk to ADisk and it still gets letter E:\.
This isn't a big deal but if anyone knows how the letters are assigned please let me know.

  • Applications Installed through task sequence not showing up in Software Center

In the task sequence we use for our OSD Windows 7 machine build, we have Custom-Install Application steps which install a number of of our Applications.  Each of these Applications has the "Allow this application to be installed from the Install
Application task sequence action without being deployed" checkbox checked.  All of the Applications have the following properties set:
    Installation behavior: Install for system
Logon requirement: Whether or not a user is logged in
    Installation program visibility: Hidden
When a machine is built using this task sequence, all of the Applications install successfully - they show up in Control Panel\Programs and Features, and they run correctly. However, none of them show up in the Software Center. I'm not seeing anything in
any of the logs that indicates a problem, and the Software Center remains empty even after running all the client evaluation cycle actions
Interestingly, if I add a couple of the newly build machines to a collection, then target deployments for the already installed Applications to that collection, after running the Machine Policy Retrieval and Evaluation Cycle the Applications immediately
show up in Software Center as installed.
Does anyone know if Applications installed through a task sequence do not show up in the Software Center by default, or could you give me some troubleshooting tips if this is not normal?
    Thanks for any suggestions!
    SCCM 2012 SP1, Single site, W7 clients

Why you deploy applications through task sequences? Task sequences are built and meant to be used with OSD, not application deployment.
To my knowledge, if you have application install step in a task sequence and you deploy that task sequence to a collection of machines, the software center on those machines only sees the task sequence itself, not the applications inside the task sequence.
If you want your applications to be shown in the software center, change the method of deploying stuff and deploy applications as they're are meant to.

  • Maintenance windows applies only to task sequences doesn't work

    Problem:

  • SCCM 2012 R2 Task Sequence to Restart Computers

This is a simple question but I cannot seem to get it right.
I am working on Monthly Maintenance plan for my servers and I cannot seem to get it right, any help would greatly appreciate it.
I have Server collections for all OS's (2003, 2008...2012 R2) with maintenance windows for all deployments daily 8PM to 5am.
I have ADRs setup to run and evaluate the last Thursday of the month to install updates on my machines.
I have 4 collections created for Server Reboot 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th with Maintenance Window Monthly for the last Friday/Saturday 8PM - 5AM for Task Sequences Only
I created a Task Sequence called Server Reboot by doing the following:
Create Task Sequence>Custom Task Sequence>Add x86 Boot Image file
In the TS I click Add>General>Restart Computer, Add message "Computer will restart............"
When the Task Sequence runs it does not display the message nor does it reboot the computer, what am I doing wrong?
Basically I want to install updates on the Last Thursday of the month to my servers, Last Friday of the Month through Saturday morning I want to restart the servers to finish applying the updates, etc.
What is the best way to accomplish this? Thanks for any suggestions or help!

I concur with Torsten and narcoticoo -- using a simple package is better.
One thing you noted however is the use of multiple maintenance windows. Maintenance Windows are not in any way specific to just the deployments on the collection where the MW is applied. MWs are applied to the clients in the collection and the client enforces
them on *all* deployments it is assigned. Collections are strictly used by the site to build policies -- which include deployments and MWs among other things but not any collection information. Those policies are then delivered to the clients who enforce them
without regard to collections at all.

  • Reset Task Sequence Variables cached in WinPE - Possible ?

    Hi All,
We are currently receiving prestaged computers from vendor, the image on the disk is out of date. I have added logic to detect old prestaged images, upon detection it will download latest wim from DP and deploy. This automatically wipes the disk before applying
    the wim.
During the os build an error occurs when installing the sccm client, this is because in the prestaged build i specified that the SCCM Client should be cached onto the disk. Because the contents of the disk is wiped due to the latest wim being downloaded
and applied the task sequence still looks for the cached package which has been deleted... i imagine this is due to the information being cached in a TS Variable...
Is there any way i can remove this variable, or perhaps all variables relating to the prestaged build if an old prestaged image is detected...?
"note: going forward i will not be caching any packages into a prestaged build"
    Many thanks..

I don't work with pre-staged media much so don't know if what you want is actually stored in a variable that can be overwritten or not; however, you can overwrite the value of any (non-read only) variable at run-time by using the standard methods
including the set task sequence variable task or a script that uses the Microsoft.sms.ysenvironment com object.

  • Non-Deployed Applications in OSD Task Sequence Are Deployed To Collection Members where OSD TS is deployed

    Hello,
I have a situation where an application (which is not deployed) that is part of an OSD Task Sequence is being deployed to computers that are in the same collection my TS for OSD is deployed.
For OSD I have created an application to check the BIOS version and upgrade the BIOS if there is a newer one available. The application has numerous deployment types (13) due to various hardware models and the requirement to go to several intermediary BIOS
versions to reach the current newest version. There are dependencies configured to handle these incremental bumps.
The OSD TS is deployed to a collection that contains all windows desktop class operating systems. What I have seen happen once is that one users workstation somehow discovered and installed the BIOS Upgrade package and their BIOS was upgraded on their workstation.
I've checked the logs on several other machines and this same application has been run as well.
The application is configured "Allow this application to be installed from the Install Applications
task sequence action without being deployed" which allows it to be ran from a TS even though it is not deployed.
I have verified the application is not deployed. I have verified there are no superceedence rules configured. As I stated, there are dependencies, but all dependencies are within this one application.
What I do not understand is, how can an application that is not
deployed and is only referenced in an Operating System Deployment Task Sequence able to be ran outside the task sequence?
This is/has occurred with computers imaged with cm2012 and with computers imaged with cm2007 who have now been migrated to cm2012.
I'm fairly sure that it is due to the task sequence and where it is advertised. Computers that are not in this collection do not show the application being applied in the AppEnforce.log. If it is the TS that is causing this, how can something that is designed
to be a "sequence of tasks", allow something to occur out of that sequence?
    Current environment is CM2012R2.
Any thoughts to what might be happening?
    Thanks

    Hello,
After working with Microsoft Support, we were able to resolve the issue.
Turns out there was something (old policies) "stuck" in the SCCM database that was causing this to be advertised outside the task sequence and not visible on the console. While they didn't call this "a bug" since it has happens with CM2007 as well, it definitely
was not normal behavior. Still not sure how that could happen as I'm 99.99% sure I never deployed this to any collection, but that's what they said.
It took several hours of support rooting through the database to figure out what was going on but after some SQL magic it was fixed. Sorry I don't have more specifics regarding the fix. MS basically said "If it happens again you can do this this and this
in the db and voila its fixed". Since I'm likely to cause more damage (messing with the database) then good if it were to happen again I'd contact them.
Anyway, this odd behavior has spooked me and I've reverted back to deploying the TS to the unknown computer collection. As much as it disappoints me to take a step back and cause more work for the guys doing the imaging, the extra safety this grants (if
something like this or worse were to happen) I think is better than an OSD task sequence gone wild.
    Thanks,
    Mark

  • UDI Wizard - Task Sequence Variables.

    Quick question :-)
How are the variables defined in UDI applied during an OS installation ?
And does it take precedence over Collection variables ?
    Thx
    Rgds

Not sure what you about "how they are applied"? Variables, aren't "applied", they are set. Variables simply contain a value and typically "something" uses the value of the variable. Now, what that "something" is depends
upon the variable itself (if anything -- just because a variable has a value doesn't mean anything actually uses that value). And what that "something" does with the value is up to that "something".
Many -- not all task sequence variables -- are used by the various processes/exes that correspond to the various steps in the task sequence. In fact, all the task sequence editor does is set a bunch of variables that are in turn used by the steps in your
task sequence (the task itself is represented by a variable).
Thus, any values you set in the TS editor are set at "design" time and passed to the TS engine when it starts on a target client. Any values set during the execution of the TS are "run" time variables and will over write the value of
any like named variables created before they are set including design time variables since they were set at the beginning of the TS.
Collection variables, like design time variables, are set at the start of the TS execution and thus are over-written by any subsequent setting of the same variable within the execution of the TS.

  • Deploy Task Sequence to VPN based clients

Can task sequences be deployed to VPN based clients? Its not an OSD task sequence, the task sequence in question has a couple of program installs and relatively small in size.
The client machine(s) do receive the deployment although the status deployment remains on "Downloading", so I assume the device cannot locate the content on the DP within the VPN (configured Slow) boundary.
The packages in the custom TS are located on the DP, so its either the boundary or a task sequence configuration.
Just to note - Software updates are deploy successfully to VPN based clients within the same boundary, so I'm inclined to say it might be the task sequence?
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

  • Setting logon/logoff environment restrictions on a task sequence

I should know better, but I've been working on something that has turned my brain to mush, so I'm throwing myself on the mercy of the community.
I have a task sequence that performs the following.
    1.  Runs a command line.  This executes a .EXE within my program package.  I would run this as Install Software task, but I don't want an exit code of '1' to be considered a failure.
    2.  Sets a task sequence variable.
    3.  Based on the value of my task sequence variable, tasks within the "Deploy" group are either executed, or the task sequence is complete.
    4.  Uninstall Java - this is an Install Software task.  The program it executes is set to only run if no user is logged on.
    5.  Install Java - this is an Install Software task.  It is also set to only execute if no user is logged on.
My issue is that the task sequence executes regardless of whether or not a user is logged in.  How do I keep that from happening?  Do I just add a step to the beginning that won't run while a user is logged in?

I think you can try to run the package at that time of logging off.  when the event is fired then the package starts uninstalling the Java and proceed further.  But it's preferable by doing with software distribution.  Also you need to ensure
that users are not disturbing the log off session. sometimes, users are start disconnecting from network.

  • Hidden Task sequences - Media vs PXE boot

    Hello all -
I have a custom configuration where we have 6 different *available* (not mandatory) task sequences deployed to PXE and Boot Media (Hidden) and I'm using a small powershell forms app to select which deployment ID they are using.  I get slightly different
behavior with Boot Media vs PXE.
    Boot Media
I get a "Welcome to the Task Sequence Wizard" dialog before it enumerates policies (as expected)
I use the powershell form and hit submit
I get a confirmation dialog (same physical size as the first one) "The required task sequence will run be (Insert task sequence name here).  Simply hit ok at this point.  There is no timer or countdown.
    PXE
I do not get any introductory dialog box.  It immediately goes into the Powershell form.
I use the powershell form and hit submit.
The next dialog I get is a small one, informing me of the *mandatory* task sequence that will run in 180 seconds.  This will count down to zero.  This behavior is undesirable.
I'm fine with getting the introductory dialog box, but getting the 180 second countdown of a mandatory task sequence (no task sequence is mandatory) is not desirable.
Is this expected?  When I wasn't using hidden task sequences, I still got the first dialog, it just didn't have options for DHCP/network config as before.

So, you're using pre-execution-hook, to execute your PoSH ?
We do something similar (pre-select a TS), so that we can run specific hidden OSD TS, for our "test and dev" TS.
We use TSmedia to do that, not PXE. (I'll need to check, but I use TSmedia myself. Maybe my colleague might use PXE for this. He is the real brains in my team ;)
For us, PXE is used for "regular/production-ready" OSD TS, not for dev.
We don't use mandatory/required TS - all of ours are optional/available.
We use All Systems(filtered by OS), and Unknown Computers, as the deployment target. In our organisation, end-users reimage their PC's as they see fit, on a self-service basis.
