Serialization custom Class Object

Hi,
I'm kind of stuck with a problem.
I've been writing a servlet and applet that are communicating over
internet using a socket connection and Object Serialization.
The objects that are passed are custom:
public class mcuComObj implements Serializable{
    static final long  serialVersionUID = 2222;
    private String name;
    private Vector attributes;
    ...There are some more functions but those are not of any interest.
In the vector attributes, I've planted a jPanel (swing).
The weird thing is that this morning, it worked a few times...after that
I'm getting the:
javax.swing.JComponent; local class incompatible: stream classdesc serialVersionUID = 6954663636822719621, local class serialVersionUID = 5896976265092562486 ERROR message.
The send code:
Vector v = new Vector();
Object objButton = (Object) jButton1;
v.add(objButton);
obj.setAttributes(v);  //obj = mcuComObj
con.sendObject(obj);   //con = socket connection threadThe receive code:
Object input= (Object) objInpStr.readObject();When I serialize the mcuComObj class, does it also serialize the
embedded objects (in this case that are in the Vector)?
The main question is...how can I solve this? I can not guarantee that
both Servlet and Applet have the same JDK running...!
Have anyone of you got any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Chris van Diemen

If the "magic numbers" (sent at the beginning of any writeObject() call) on the sending and receiving JDK differ, the object will not de-serialize properly on the receiving end.
The easist solution would be to use a common format to transmit the data. Say! That sounds like XML.

  • Movieclip to Custom class object?

    Hi
    I created one "MyObject" class which is extended from Movieclip. In my flash stage, i have one movieclip and the name is "myObj". I dont use linkage. How can i convert movieclip to MyObject instance.
    i tried the below one, i got error
    var  str = MyObject(mc).name;
    The error is
    TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert flash.display::MovieClip@2b6baf99 to MyObject.
    at Obj_fla::MainTimeline/frame1()
    Is it possible to convert?
    Thanks

    You cannot create two classes with the same name as you cannot have two symbol with the same linkage class. With that said, you can create a single class for several symbols and make this class the base class for these symbols (again, with different linkage class names). This is exactly like a statement:
    public class MyClass extends MyAnotherClass
    public class MyClass2 extends MyAnotherClass, etc.
    And, yes, you instantiate these symbols with their linkage class names.
    Is it what you asked?

  • How to access MC's textfield created in a custom class?

    I have a custom class which creates a new MC using a library MC. The  library MC contains a dynamic textfield called productName.
    The custom class object gets created fine and is displaying on the  stage. It's also holding custom properties I set as well.
    How do I control the dynamic textfield inside the MC, which is inside  the custom class object?
    My Product.as:
    package {
         import flash.display.MovieClip;
         public class Product extends MovieClip {
             public var prodName:String;
             public var prodCategory:String;
             public var prodQuality:String;
             public function Product():void {
                 var productMC:MovieClip = new cellMC();
                 addChild(productMC);
    My .FLA first frame:
    var myProd1:Product = new Product();
    myProd1.prodCategory = "Heaters";
    myProd1.x = 150;
    myProd1.y = 140;
    addChild(myProd1);
    // THE FOLLOWING DOES NOT WORK
    myProd1.productMC.productName.text = "ABC 123";
    I figure something like this would work, but with lots of variations, still nothing works
    I get errors telling me it can't find productMC.
    UPDATE:
    Using GetByChildName it seems I can access productMC. For example this works:
    myProd1.getChildByName("productMC").visible = false;
    But this does not work:
    myProd1.getChildByName("productMC").getChildByName("productName").text = "dgdhdhdhrgh";
    If I take the textfield out of the library MC, and create it in the class, then this works:
    myProd1.getChildByName("productName").visible = false;
    BUT this does not work:
    myProd1.getChildByName("productName").text = "sdgsgdfsg";

    Hi Otto,
    If I well understood your situation, the solution  might be quite simple.
    Since your Product class is a  MovieClip (and not a Sprite), you could solve your problem many ways  knowing that a MovieClip is a dynamic class.
    But first,  the thing is that you created your productMC object on the fly inside  your Product class.
    So either you correct it like this:
    package {
         import  flash.display.MovieClip;
         public class  Product extends MovieClip {
             public var  prodName:String;
             public var prodCategory:String;
              public var prodQuality:String;
             public var productMC:MovieClip; // *****
             public function  Product():void {
                 productMC = new  cellMC(); // *********
                 addChild(productMC);
    Or use this cheap trick (a MovieClip is a dynamic class):
    package {
         import  flash.display.MovieClip;
         public class  Product extends MovieClip {
             public var  prodName:String;
             public var prodCategory:String;
              public var prodQuality:String;
             public function  Product():void {
                 var productMC:MovieClip = new  cellMC();
                 this.productMC = productMC; // **************
                 addChild(productMC);
    Although it is possible that, for this one, you need to reforce the dynamic property:
    package {
         import  flash.display.MovieClip;
         dynamic public class  Product extends MovieClip {
    I am not sure, but anyway, you will see for yourself.
    Plus, you try to change text to a MovieClip object? Either there is already a TextField in you cellMC object and you are not targeting it, or productMC should be instanciated as a TextField and not a MovieClip. I think you know the answer to that.

  • Dynamic Class Reference in Custom Class

    I've created a custom class that I want to be able to
    dynamically insert a movie clip from the library. I'm running into
    trouble because I want to access the clip as a property of the
    custom class object (ie: so it can be swapped out for another
    library clip after instantiation, among other things). I'm using
    getDefinitionByName() but I can't use it outside my addDiagram()
    function (see attached code) because the string variable that
    stores the name of the library clip isn't defined until after the
    custom class constructor function. Any help is appreciated!
    Thanks,
    -Erik

    i'm not quite following - are you saying you want to access
    panelDiagram in functions other than your addDiagram function? just
    take your variable definition out of your function and make it a
    class variable eg put the following line above your constructor:
    private var panelDiagram:*;
    and in the second line of your addDiagram function use:
    panelDiagram = new diagramClass();
    sorry if this isn't your answer, if it isn't i'm struggling
    to understand the problem.

    Thanks I'll check it out. Basically I want to try it
    for fixing a problem of running two apps in the same

  • Flash CS5 - code hinting doesn't show custom class constructor parameters

    Hi I've got other strange problem my code hinting works almost fine the  problem is that when I create my custom class object code hinting  doesn't show what kind of parameters can be passed to the class  constructor. It shows only "MyClass()", when i call a method like this  class_object.methodName( - parameters show correctly. What can be the  problem?

    I do not work for Adobe, just a fellow forum dweller.
    The example was made quickly because you said this:
    I've tried flash builder but if there is a way to associate code directly from it to symbols on the timeline I haven't been able to find it.
    Now you know how.
    I'm sorry but I don't even have Flash CS6. I still use CS5.5 because I use Flash Builder 4.6 for everything I do. I merely use Flash Pro to generate quick libraries full of goodies and export a SWC to use in Flash Builder.
    I realize it's obvious but you did ensure your preferences had hinting both enabled and the delay set low (or zero)? I can only show you a CS5.5 preference panel, I'm not sure if it's the same. Note one important thing in this photo which is "Cache size". I have mine on 800 files which seems to be fine. If you're pointing toward a HUGE library of classes you may want to increase that number and check completion again.

  • How can i add custom attributes to a new Class Object using the API ?

    Hello everyone,
    Here is my problem. I just created a subclass of Document using the API (not XML), by creating a ClassObjectDefinition and a ClassObject. Here is the code :
    // doc is an instance of Document
    ClassObject co = doc.getClassObject();
    ClassObjectDefinition cod = new ClassObjectDefinition(ifsSession);
    cod.setSuperclass(co);
    cod.setSuperclassName(co.getName());
    cod.setName("MYDocument");
    ClassObject c = (ClassObject)ifsSession.createSchemaObject(cod);
    Everything seems to be OK since i can see the new class when i use ifsmgr. But my question is : how can i add custom attributes to this new class ? Here is what i tried :
    AttributeDefinition value = new AttributeDefinition(ifsSession);
    value.setAttribute("FOO", AttributeValue.newAttributeValue("bar"));
    c.addAttribute(value);
    But i got the following error message :
    oracle.ifs.common.IfsException: IFS-30002: Unable to create new LibraryObject
    java.sql.SQLException: ORA-01400: impossible d'insirer NULL dans ("IFSSYS"."ODM_ATTRIBUTE"."DATATYPE")
    oracle.ifs.server.S_LibraryObjectData oracle.ifs.beans.LibrarySession.DMNewSchemaObject(oracle.ifs.server.S_LibraryObjectDefinition)
    oracle.ifs.beans.SchemaObject oracle.ifs.beans.LibrarySession.NewSchemaObject(oracle.ifs.beans.SchemaObjectDefinition)
    oracle.ifs.beans.SchemaObject oracle.ifs.beans.LibrarySession.createSchemaObject(oracle.ifs.beans.SchemaObjectDefinition)
    void fr.sword.ifs.GestionDocument.IFSDocument.createDocument(java.lang.String)
    void fr.sword.ifs.GestionDocument.IFSDocument.main(java.lang.String[])
    So, what am i doing wrong ?
    More generally, are we restricted in the types of the attributes ? (for example, would it be possible to add an attribute that would be an inputStream ? Or an object that i have already created ?).
    Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    Hi Guillaume,
    you're welcome. Don't know exactly, but assume that ATTRIBUTEDATATYPE_UNKNOWN
    is used to check for erronous cases only
    and it shouldn't be used otherwise.
    Creating your own objects could be simply done via
    ClassObject ifsClassObject;
    DocumentDefinition ifsDocDef = new DocumentDefinition(ifsSession);
    // get class object for my very own document
    ifsClassObject = ClassObject.getClassObjectFromLabel(ifsSession, "MYDOCUMENT");
    // set the class for the document i'd like to create
    ifsDocDef.setClassObject(ifsClassObject);
    // set attributes and content for the document...
    ifsDocDef.setAttribute("MYFOO_ATTRIBUTE",....);
    ifsDocDef.setContent("This is the content of my document");
    // create the document...
    PublicObject doc = ifsSession.createPublicObject(ifsDocDef);

  • How to find master data info objects. Partner function and customer class.

    hi,
    Can you please tell me what are the available extractors for Partner Function (PARVW from VBPA)and Customer Class (KUKLA from KNA1).
    I hope these fields are master data. I checked in 0customer. But I didn't find it. There is a info object (Business partner). Is it the same?
    pls reply

    I will admit that I am not familiar with ECC and there may be different interpretations of what KUKLA means and different means of extracting Customer information to/from ECC.
    However, for us, when extracting Customer Attributes using the 0CUSTOMER_ATTR datasource in R/3, we map KUKLA to 0CUST_CLASS.  They are both set up as 2 CHAR.  That is not to say that you should also.  You can map it to a custom infoobject in BW as long as you set it up as an attribute of 0CUSTOMER.  KUKLA is available in the standard datasource 0CUSTOMER_ATTR in R/3.  When looking at what is available in the infosource for 0CUSTOMER in BW, 0CUST_CLASS is a logical choice to map.
    As far as VBPA-PARVW, VBPA is not a source for master data for 0BPARTNER.  VBPA contains the business partners associated with Sales documents.  So if you are going to create a data provider (cube/ODS) in BW and VBPA-PARVW is part of the transactional datasource in R/3, the you can map it to 0BPARTNER in your cube/ODS.
    Hope this helps.

  • Customizing Forte object serialization

    Forte supports serialization of arbitrary object graphs into streams.
    However, there do not seem to be any well documented ways to customize
    this serialization, e.g. by using a different encoding scheme. It would
    seem there must be some support in there somewhere. I suppose at the
    very least, one could parse a serialized object (once one decoded the
    Forte encoding scheme) and do the conversion from that. That seems
    suboptimal, though.
    Has anyone done this? Any thoughts on how it might be done?

    Object serialization is the process of saving an object's state to a sequence of bytes. Does it saves only the instance variable or also the object methods(like getter and setter methods) ? Only the state--the instance variables. It doesn't save the class definition. That has to be available separately (via classloader) at deserilaization time. In other words, you cannot deserialize an instance of a class that is not on your classpath.
    Once we we write the object to outputstream or some text file, how does it get transmitted over network?The same way any other bytes get transmitted. You have a Socket. You get its OutputStream. You wrap that in an ObjectOutputStream. When you write to the ObjectOutputStream, that writes through to the Socket's OutputStream, which is responsible for putting the bytes on the wire.
    Does we write the java object to text file only duuring serialization?We write the objects to wherever the other end of the ObjectOutputStream is connected to. Just like any other I/O.

  • How do I resolve a ClassNotFoundException for a custom class

    I am new to Java and am having frustrating problems. I am creating a Desktop application and want the application to have the capability to read from the file system.
    I created a custom class to hold mapping data and stored the object to file using ObjectOutputStream writeObject. I read it back into the program to make sure it worked. All was well and fine. I am trying to mimic the C capability to read and write entire data structures at a time. I ensured that the class (and all classes that it relied on) were serializable.
    Now back to the Desktop app. I am trying to read the object into that same custom class in my program. The program compiles fine. I have set my classpath up in Netbeans 6.1 to look to the other apps classes, have imported the classes. Again no problem.
    I also set my classpath (in the run section) to look at the jar file in the other section that contains my class. I have tried setting this runtime classpath many ways. I will get a ClassNotFoundException: MyClass at URLClassLoader ... on and on.
    I really am trying to do something simple here by just reading in a structure (class in Java). I was told previously that it is a classpath problem. How can I resolve this? I don't think that I should have to write a binary or text file that contains all of the various parameters (easier to do in one hop using
    MyClass c = (MyClass) in.readObject();

Why aren't a text representation and a toString call good enough? Sounds like you just want a simple persistence mechanism without a relational database. Writing a Map of <key, value> pairs using a PrintWriter would seem enough to me and parsing each pair on a line to read it back in would seem sufficient to me.
    Now back to the Desktop app. I am trying to read the object into that same custom class in my program. Why? What are you trying to do? Why can't your Desktop app instantiate an instance of the custom class and be done with it?

    I also set my classpath (in the run section) to look at the jar file in the other section that contains my class. Why do you have to package the other class in a JAR? Why can't that package just be part of your current project? Or are they separate projects, and you want to treat the first one like a 3rd party JAR?
    I have tried setting this runtime classpath many ways. I will get a ClassNotFoundException: MyClass at URLClassLoader ... on and on.You aren't setting CLASSPATH correctly. You don't need a URL class loader. You're making this far too complicated. It's a much easier thing than this.

    CNF exception means one thing: a .class that you need to load isn't in the CLASSPATH. That advice you got is correct. You need to figure out how to make it so.
    Your description is confusing.
    I think your mistake is assuming that serialization is the best way to persist that mapping data. Without knowing more about the details, I think adding two method to the "custom class" that encapsulated the mapping data should be sufficient. Create a static read() method that takes a java.io.Reader and returns a populated instance of your class. Create a static write() method that accepts a java.io.Writer and an instance of your class and returns void. Have them read and write plain text. Then either make that source code part of your NetBeans project or package it into a JAR and put that in your CLASSPATH. Either way, if you don't do it properly you'll get that CNF exception. Keep plugging until you get it right.

  • No Custom Class in CVP Session?

    Hi,
    I feel a little like I've just moved into The Twilight Zone here - is this a newbie question?
    In my CVP VXML application, I have 2 custom elements that use a custom class.  In the beginning of the call flow, I create an instance of the class, assign it to session, and then later in the call flow I retrieve it from session.
    CustomObject myAmazingObject = new CustomObject();
    actionData.setSessionData("amazingObject", myAmazingObject);
    When the object is retrieved from session, I got a ClassCastException when retrieving it, so I added some slightly more defensive code:
    CustomObject existingObject = null; //(CustomObject) actionData.getSessionData("amazingObject");
    Object anObject = actionData.getSessionData("amazingObject");
    System.out.println( "THE OBJECT IS: " + anObject.getClass().getName() );
    if( anObject instanceof CustomObject )
         existingObject = (CustomObject) anObject;
    What I'm wondering is, why the full classname is printed correctly in the logs but the instanceof test fails!
    What I need to find out is what needs to happen in order to be able to store/retrieve user-defined classes in the CVP session.  Is there a reason this would not be possible?  Strings work fine, more "creative" objects seem to be disallowed...
    Does the jar containing the object need to be in a special place maybe?
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Apparently what happened here is a side-effect of the "Magical Cache Syndrome".  :-)
    It appears as though Eclipse or the CVP plugins creates a serialized cache of any jars added to a CVP Studio Project, and there may be a test in the caching mechanism that does not update the cache if only the serialVersionUID changes.  Thus the package+class name is the same, but the runtime instance becomes incompatible.  Maybe?
    Changing the package name of the object, rebuilding, redeploying, fixed the issue.
    Then again, it may not be a builder issue.  It may also be a Tomcat session issue (it uses serialization when bouncing to retain data), though with no active callers in the test environment I'm not sure why Tomcat would even retain a session, and wouldn't the "updateApp" command clobber it?
    Does anyone have any detailed technical information on how this entire mechanism works?  I only like magic tricks I can fully explain... :-)
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • Unit testing: Mocking custom classes with null

    Hi,
    I was trying to save time on testing the usual hashCode() and equals() methods so I got this class: http://www.cornetdesign.com/files/BeanTestCase.java.txt
    I altered it a bit as it wasn't handling standard classes only primitives.
    Anyway, I got to the point to include my own custom classes.
    I have to create a 'mock' object for my class properties, e.g. field.getType().newInstance()
    Fine, but there are some tricky instances. E.g. when I'd like to create an instance of java.net.URL which takes a URL as String in the constructor.
    This is almost impossible to automate as it has to be a valid URL format not just a random String.
    So, I thought I set them to null, e.g.
    assertTrue(o1.equals(o2))
    as both properties are null.
    Is this the right approach you think?
    I welcome any suggestions.
    My initial idea was to save enormous amount of time automating the hashCode() and equals() method tests as they took so long to write.
    Thanks

    Trouble would be that you are only testing the null branch of the equals or hashCode, which typically have to check for null, then if not null do an actual comparison.
    It's worth the effort of learning to use a package such as EasyMock to create and program mock objects. It's tidiier if you are progamming to interfaces, however, but it will mock ordinary objects, though probably not if they are final.
    What you could do is to define a factory interface, and have a table of anonymous classes wich generate various types. In effect create a library of dumy object factories.
    Something like:
    private interface DummyGenerator {
          Object generate(int idx);
          Class<?> getType();
    private final static DummyGenerator[] generatorsTable {
        new DummyGenerator() {
               public Object generate(int idx) {
                 return new URL("http://nowhere.com/" + idx);
         public Class<?> getType() { return URL.class; }
    .. generators for other classes
    private final static Map<Class<?>, DummyGenerator> genMap = new HashMap<Class<?>, DummyGenerator>(generatiorsTable.length);
    static {
        for(DummyGenerator gen : generatorsTable)
            genMap.put(gen.getType(), gen);
    }

    Searching the internet for a solution I can find lots of similar stories with random work arounds, none of which have worked for me.  However, most of these have been for previous versions of Xcode and one user reported that upgrading to 6.1 solved the problem.
    I have redone this a few time to ensure that it isn't finger trouble and I do have a number of years of cocoa/Xcode experience, I'm just getting used to storyboards.
    I have tried:
    Clean project / Delete Derived Data / Relaunch Xcode
    Delete references to .h & .m files of custom classes and then added them back in.
    Is there any way of 'forcing' Xcode to recheck for Outlets and Actions in custom classes?

    To find out where th problem is,  either Xcode or something in your environment, you should try to run Xcode as a different user.
    The guest account is ideal for this as your are sure you will get a clean environment. You could also make a new user account and try running from there. If Xcode starts then the problem is something in your original user environment. If Xcode fails to stsrt with the new account then there is a system wide problem.
    BTW is your account an admin account or a regular account?
