Serializing an object and deserializing

Hi,
I have an object which i need to serialize so that i can store that in session.
And then when i m reading from session i need to deserialize it.
What is the best practice to do it.
Appreciate ur help

Simply implement Serializable and ensure that all fields in your class that are not static or transient are also of Serialzable types. You could implement Externalizable, but that is more work and probably of of limited value unless serialization performance is hyper-critical - it usually isn't.

  • Serialized Objects and Servlets

    I'm having a lot of trouble accessing a serialized object and displaying it in a servlet. I get the following exception:
    java.io.StreamCorruptedException: Type code out of range, is -84
    Can anyone help me out here?

    OK... here's some of the code I'm using...
    public Object readObject()
    throws IOException, ClassNotFoundException
              oin = new ObjectInputStream(fin);
              Object obj = oin.readObject();
              oin.close();
              return obj;
    public void writeObject(Object data)
    throws IOException
              oout = new ObjectOutputStream(fout);
              oout.writeObject(data);
              oout.close();
    Essentially, my servlet creates and instance of an ObjectManager class. This ObjectManager then tries to execute the readObject method above.
    The whole process comes to a grinding halt at this point:
    Object obj = oin.readObject();
    I think this problem has to do with the way that I'm trying to access the file to which I have serialized my object. The problem is that I can't think of any other way to do it. Here's how I am currently referencing the file that holds my serialized object:
    File theFile = new File("Serialized.dat");
    FileInputStream fin = new FileInputStream(theFile);
    I've never attempted anything like this before and I suspect I'm way off in my approach. I really appreciate your willingness to help me out.

    and data as byte stream over the same stream.Why are you sending the client message as a byte stream?
    String seems a much more logical type. I would assume that you're reading strings from one client, and printing them on the others. If you translate to bytes in the middle, you're going to have to ensure that you decode those streams correctly on the other side.
    And if I were implementing this, I probably wouldn't send the raw Vector or List ... instead, I'd create a Message object, which wraps the Vector/String, and a MessageDispatcher interface, which the client implements to handle incoming messages.

  • Serialization Object and storasge in blob field Oracle 8.1.6

    Hi,
    this is problem with serializing and deserializing when i am storing object serialized in a Blob field Oracle:
    MyObject myObject = new MyObject();
    ByteArrayOutputStream bayos = new ByteArrayOutputStream();
    ObjectOutputStream oos = new ObjectOutputStream (bayos);
    oos.writeObject(myObject);
    oos.flush();
    byte[] buffer = bayos.toByteArray();
    int size = buffer.length;
    oos.close();
    ByteArrayInputStream bayis = new ByteArrayInputStream(buffer,0,size);
    // if the number bytes of serialized myObject > 4kbytes then the insert in Blob field fails down.
    // if the number bytes of serialized myObject < 4kbytes then the insert in Blob field successes.
    // So I only can put in Blob field serialized object with size minus 4k.
    // The code for insert:
    PreparedStatement pstmt = connection.prepareStatement(sqlInsert);
    pstmt.setBinaryStream(1,bayis,size);
    int retCode = pstmt.executeUpdate();
    // The code for read from table Oracle
    rset = stmt.rxecuteQuery(sqlSelect);
    rset.next();
    oracle.sql.BLOB fldBlob = (BLOB)rset.getObject(1);
    InputStream ins = fldBlob.getBinaryStream();
    byte[] buf = new byte[size]
    ByteArrayInputStream bayis = new ByteArrayInputStream(buf,0,size);
    ObjectInputStream ois = new ObjectInputStream(bayis);
    MyObject myObject = (MyObject)ois.readObject();
    Someone knows the reason of the limit of 4Kbyte ?
    Thanks....

    Insert LOBs into Oracle is a 3 step process. You must insert a place holder, and the do a select for update to put the contents into the row. Lets say you have a table called MY_LOB:
    create table MY_LOB (
       MYID NUMERIC(10) NOT NULL,
       MYLOB BLOB DEFAULT EMPTY_BLOB()
    );The 'empty_blob' keyword tells Oracle to put a dummy value in the blob column when a row is initially created. To insert (assuming you have a db connection already):
    conn.setAutoCommit(false);
    PreparedStatement pstmt = null;
    ResultSet rs = null;
    oracle.sql.BLOB myLob = null;
    try
       //Insert the initial row.
       pstmt = conn.prepareStatement("INSERT INTO MY_LOB (MYID) VALUES (?)");
       //Set the PK value
       pstmt.setInt(1,100);
       pstmt.executeUpdate();
       pstmt.close();
       //Lock the row for insertion.  This is needed for large inserts.
       pstmt = conn.prepareStatement("SELECT MYLOB from MY_LOB where MYID = ? FOR UPDATE");
       pstmt.setInt(1,100);
       rs = pstmt.executeQuery();
       if (rs.next())
          myLob = (oracle.sql.BLOB)rs.getBlob(1);
       rs.close();
       pstmt.close();
       //Finally...update the row with the blob data....
       myLob.putBytes(1, buffer);
       pstmt = conn.prepareStatement("UPDATE MY_LOB SET MYLOB = ? WHERE MYID = ?");
       pstmt.setBlob(1, myLob);
       pstmt.setInt(2,100);
       pstmt.executeUpdate();
       pstmt.close();
       conn.commit();
    catch(SQLException sqlE)
        conn.rollback();
    finally
      //make sure and close all statements....
    }Hope this helps, I didn't compile it so it may have some bugs. It should lead in the right direction at least.

    Hi Raghu,
    Check table SER01(Document Header for Serial Numbers for Delivery).
    OBJK is the object table and you will have SERNR as serial number in this table.
    check table EQUI
                          EQUI -SERGE
                          EQUI-GERNR.
    EQUI-SERGE is Manufacturer serial number.chk if this is the one u r looking for.
    MARC-SERNP.
    key in plant and material in this table to fetch the Serial number profile of the material.
    Check in IKPF AND ISEG Tables... ( inventory )

  • How to use Java NIO to implement disk cache for serialized java objects

    Hi,
    I have a cache (implemented as hahstable etc.) that contains java objects (mostly strings) and swaps objects from runtime memory to the disk and back based on some algorithms. Currently, the reading and writing from the disk is implemented using java.io.* package i.e. fileInputstream and FileOutputStream. Essentially, I serialize the java object and write to the disk and the deserialize and give it back to the Hashtable cache.
    The performance of swapping from disk to memory is kinda slow. I have read that memory mapping would improve the performance.
    My idea is to do the following:
    Have one big file mapped to memory. I write the serialized objects to different portions of the file and then read those portions when needed. I can use the MappedByteBuffer for that but then I have the following questions. I will not store objects in the hashtable anymore.
    1. How do I delete things from the cache in the above design i.e. how do I delete portions of a mapped file?
    2. How do I serialize objects using ByteBuffers and then deserialize them? I guess this shouldn't be hard but just want to confirm.
    Do you think this is the right design or should I change? Right now using the old io package, I have a separate file for each object. When using the NIO package, I want to store all objects in a single file in different portions of the file, is that the right way to go?
    As you can see, I am beginner in memory mapped io and need help.

    Have one big file mapped to memory. I write the serialized objects to different portions of the file and then read those portions when needed. I can use the MappedByteBufferThis is a good idea, one that I have worked on. It involves quite a bit of manipulation with temporary buffers and a deep working knowledge of object serialization.
    1. How do I delete things from the cache in the above design i.e. how do I delete portions of a mapped file?The best way to handle this is do a two-step process, cutting the file into two pieces and gluing it back together where the original one is...
    2. How do I serialize objects using ByteBuffers and then deserialize them? I guess this shouldn't be hard but just want to confirm.It is hard. Wrapping the streams and making the IO work properly is not the challenge however. The hard part comes in hacking the object streams. The object input/output streams use a ClassDescriptor object which only gets written once/ read once. This shouldn't be a problem if you will read/write the entire file at once, but will bring you grief if you want random access to your objects. You will also need an indexing mechanism to support random access.
    Do you think this is the right design or should I change? Right now using the old io package, I have a separate file for each object. When using the NIO package, I want to store all objects in a single file in different portions of the file, is that the right way to go?I guess it depends on your needs. Do you require random access to objects? NIO provides some performance gains, but mostly for very large amounts of data (>10M in my experience).
    You can always write all your objects into the same file using normal io techniques and you can still generate an index and acheive random access. It might be easier...
    Good luck

  • The Proper way to go - Passing Serialized Java Objects vs. Web Services?

    The team which I am apart of in our little "community" is trying to convince some "others" (management) that we should not use web services to communicate (move large data) within the same application (allbeit a huge application spanning across many servers).
    Furthermore these "others" are trying to tell us that in this same application when two small apps. inside of this large app. are both java we should not communicate via serialized java objects but instead we should use Web Services and XML. We are trying to convince them that the simplest way is best.
    They have asked us to provide them with proof that passing serialized java objects back and forth between two smaller java applications inside of a larger one is an Industry Standard. Can anyone help either straighten my fellow workers and I out or help us convince the "others" of the proper way to go?

    When I was a consultant we always gave the client what they wanted. Even if it was the wrong choice. Suck it up.
    I'm glad I wasn't one of those customers. Although I agree that a customer is the one who decides what to do, when I pay someone for consultancy, I expect them to consult me. If they know I'm trying to do something that I shouldn't be doing, I expect a good consultant to be able to show me that there's a better way (not just tell me I'm not doing it right, mind you).
    We pass a lot of data using XML and we don't have any transmission or processing speed issues.
    Then you either have a much better network than our customer did, or we're not talking about the same amounts of data here.
    I used the JAX-RPC RI ...
    That's cool... our customer was, unfortunately, infected with Borland products, so we had to use BES. The web services on BES were run by Axis.
    How large were these messages?
    Huge... each element had about 15 attributes, so 1,200 elements would require 19,200 XML nodes (envelope not included). By comparison, the serialized messages weren't even a quarter that size. It's not just about what you send across the network; it's also the effort of parsing XML compared to desrializing Java objects. Our web service wasn't exactly the only process running at the server.
    Anyone who understand the fundamental difference between ASCII (XML) and binary (serialized) formats realizes that no web service can possibly achieve the performance of binary Java services. Why do you think that work is being put into binary web services? I'm not saying XML is never a good thing; just that it's not The Holy Grail that a lot of people are making it look like.

    Ouch.

  • Leasing object and leasing CAI component

    what is leasing object and leasing CAI component?
    where and when i've to use in CRM?
    what are all the configuration settings/transaction code need for that.
    anyone can explain to me? if possible could you send me the document. [email protected]
    Thanx in advs,
    das

    Leasing object is basically the asset (or material or physical product or reference product) that is leased in CRM Leasing. In CRM, materials are created in transaction COMMPR01. These are generic products like LAPTOP or TRUCK. If you want to create more specific products (eg. using serial number or VIN number), then you can create Individual Objects (IObjects) based on the reference product. The object family used for leasing individual objects is 0311.
    CAI stands for "Contract Added Pricing Implement". In CRM 5.0, you can find this under IMG -> CRM -> Financial Services -> Leasing -> Pricing -> CAI - Contract Added Pricing Implement. Here's the text copied from the IMG
    "The CAI (Contract-Added pricing Implement) tool is used in the leasing scenario to calculate the conditions for pricing that cannot be calculated using standard pricing in IPC. These are conditions whose calculation requires the financial mathematics cash flow or information from predecessor documents. In the standard scenario, these are conditions that are needed in option valuation, such as the net present value of outstanding payments."
    Note: If you are using a higher version of CRM for Leasing, you may not need CAI.

    By only one function group how can u read the data of a certain vehicle?
    Yes you can create in the function group an internal table where u store the data of every car: in this way u use the internal table like it was an instance, but you should consider here the example is very simple. Here we have only the speed as characteristic, but really we can have many complex characteristics.

  • What's the difference between a not-initialed object and a null object

    hi guys, i wanna know the difference between a not-initialed object and a null object.
    for eg.
    Car c1;
    Car c2 = null;after the 2 lines , 2 Car obj-referance have been created, but no Car obj.
    1.so c2 is not refering to any object, so where do we put the null?in the heap?
    2.as no c2 is not refering to any object, what's the difference between c2 and c1?
    3.and where we store the difference-information?in the heap?

    For local variables you can't have "Car c1;" the compiler will complain.That's not true. It will only complain if you try to use it without initializing it.
    You can have (never used, so compiler doesn't care):
    public void doSomething()
       Car c1;
       System.out.println("Hello");
    }or you can have (definitely initialized, so doesn't have to be initialized where declared):
    public void doSomething(boolean goldClubMember)
       Car c1;
       if (goldClubMember)
           c1 = new Car("Lexus");
       else
           c1 = new Car("Kia");
       System.out.println("You can rent a " + c1.getMake());

  • Anchored objects and first line in InDesign CS3

    Hi, thanks for reading. I know that when you want an achored object at the beginning of a text block to all push away ("wrap around") the text, including the first line, you have to put it into a line before that.
    What I don't like about it, is that I then have an empty first line and everything else is pushed one line down. Now I could move the whole textbox up, to fit to the rest of my layout, but that's not the way one should work in InDesign. Is there a way to get around the first line?

    T-
    Select the anchored object and put text wrap on it. Then select the anchored object and go to Object/Anchored Object/Options. Select Position: Inline and set the Y Offset to the negative number that aligns your text where you want it.

  • How to create dynamic View Object and Dynamic Table

    Dear ll
    I want to create a dynamic view object and display the output in a dynamic table on the page.
    I am using Jdeveloper 12c "Studio Edition Version 12.1.2.0.0"
    This what I did:
    1- I created a read only view object with this query "Select sysdate from dual"
    2- I added this View object to the application module
    3- I created a new method that change the query of this View object at runtime
        public void changeVoQuery(String dbViewName) {
            String sqlstm = "Select * From " + dbViewName;
            ViewObject dynamicVo = this.findViewObject("DynamicVo");
            if (dynamicVo != null) {
                dynamicVo.remove();
            dynamicVo = this.createViewObjectFromQueryStmt("DynamicVo", sqlstm);
            dynamicVo.executeQuery();
    4- I run the application module for testing the method and I passed "Scott.Emp" as a parameter and the result was Success
    5- Now I want to show the result of the view on the page, so I draged and dropped the method from the data control as a parameter form
    6- I dragged and dropped the view Object "DynamicVo" as a table and I choose "generate Column Dynamically at runtime". This is the page source

  • Is Active Directory's ExtensionAttributes9 a field in user object and how to retrieve it in the class type userprincipal?

    Hi, I'm using VS2012.
    I want to use this ExtensionAttributes9 field to store date value for each user object.  I use UserPrincipal class, a collection of these objects are then bind to a gridview control.  Is ExtensionAttributes9 a field in AD user object?
    How can I access it and bind to the gridview?
    If this field isn't available then what other field can use?
    Thank you.
    Thank you

    UserPrincipal is basically a wrapper around DirectoryEntry:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.directoryservices.directoryentry.aspx and only provides a subset of the Active Directory, although the most common, attributes that are available for the user object.  The attribute that you
    seek is not one of them.
    By utilizing the method that I provided you a link to, it will return the underlying DirectoryEntry that was used to build the UserPrincipal object and should allow you to access the attribute that you seek.
    It would be greatly appreciated if you would mark any helpful entries as helpful and if the entry answers your question, please mark it with the Answer link.

  • MIGO tr Serial number field and table?

    Hi guys,
                  can anybody tell me how to find the field name and table for Serial number in MIGO tr Code?
                     in MIGO the Serial number field and Structure are GOSERIAL-SERIALNO.but i was not able to find the Actucal Field name and table where i can get the values based on PO and Asset Number's?
    Thanks,
    Gopi.

    Hello,
    I'm looking at the same problem here. I found the table SER03 in which you can enter the the material document. This returns 1 line in this table and from this one you need the OBKNR element
    You can copy this data and paste it into table OBJK element OBKNR and this returns all serialnumbers for the relevant material document.
    My problem is that i can't get these items on the sapscript. (WESCHEINVERS 1,2 or 3)
    Greetings
