Serious Battery Problem: Lack of Charge and Quick Drain

I have a 15" Macbook Pro purchased late July/early August 2008, model number A1260 and has its software completely updated. I use the computer every day and, aside from the occasional cycling after getting the battery charge down to 0%, charge the computer every night.
Recently, my battery seems to be dying a LOT quicker, with the worst case of me leaving my computer to fall asleep with "Better Energy Savings" settings activated at 72% charge and coming back after about 15 minutes of cooking to find that the computer had completely died. After plugging the computer in to a power source, it took 10 minutes for the charge to change from 0% to 1% and, after reaching around 18%, I unplugged the power source and plugged it back in, triggering a change in the battery monitor that made the 18% charge reading jump up to 81%.
According to the System Profiler, my Power statistics are as follows:
Charge Information:
Charge remaining (mAh): 3016
Fully charged: No
Charging: Yes
Full charge capacity (mAh): 3512
Health Information:
Cycle count: 564
Condition: Fair
Any ideas on what the problem might be or what I can do to solve it?

Cycle count: 564
That's over 2 years of charging once every day cycles that you accumulated in just a little over 1 year. Personally, I don't recommend taking the battery down to 0%; it sounds like you have been 'riding it hard'. Batteries don't last forever.
If you purchased AppleCare, you can see what Apple says; without AppleCare, there isn't much you can do but buy a new battery.
Note that: http://www.apple.com/batteries/notebooks.html says:
For Apple notebooks with removable batteries — such as previous generation MacBook and MacBook Pro computers — a properly maintained battery is designed to retain up to 80% of its original capacity at 300 full charge and discharge cycles.
You are well over that.

its not related to any hardware because last year april i got replacement new phone from apple and i maintained it well...!

Probably apps running in the background are causing this, sometimes Mail get's stuck connecting to the mail server, or some social media app like Facebook can also be a reason for prolonged background activity.
Try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again. You will not lose any data by resetting, but it can cure some glitches.
If this does not help, setting it up as new device would be the next step:

  • My ipad touch wont play music, an arrow flashes by the battery icon, which is charged and it just reverts back to the selected song without playing...what can i do to fix this?

    Help!
My ipad touch wont play music, an arrow flashes by the battery icon, which is charged and it just reverts back to the selected song in a second without playing...what can i do to fix this?  thanks, joe

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."

  • HT3964 Installed a new battery for a Macbook 2,1 New battery not charging. Battery symbol shows (Not charging) and replace battery. Green LED on magsafe connection. Disconnection results in an instant shutdown.

I have just installed a new Battery after the old one showed (Not Charging) and when you clicked on this icon the dropdown"condition replace now". Problem now is the computer still shows the same message in the top bar (Not Charging) and the dropdown also shows "condition relace now". the magsafe show the greem LED i.e not charging, but providing power. If you disconnect the magsafe the computer powers off instantly confirming we have power. I have carried out resetting the SMC controller and still no change. Tested the standby voltage on the magsafe pins etc, all in spec. What should I do now, as I don't want to keep spending more and more. Bellow is the info from the system profiler.

  • Battery problem, possibly also charging problem

    Hello everyone!
I hope you can help me...lately...seeing no reason, my Nokia 5800 started to behave strangely. It started with the battery, I charged it fully, but afterwards the capacity dropped very fast...despite of the fact, I kept it in offline mode(switched it off for night) and was using it barely...in 2 days the battery was dead. I said to myself, probably it just lost its capacity, so I bought a new original Nokia one...but it seems the problem is still there and in addition now the battery is charging and charging and the indicator seems never to stop and say me: "I am charged!". I have already tried to take the battery in and out, reset to factory settings, I have the latest firmware 60.0.003...
    Grateful for any advice!
    Adam

Have you recently installed application like WhatsApp ? It is a battery drainer ..
..Also do you just switch to OFFLINE profile during the night or switch the phone OFF ? Switching OFF and ON may also pull some battery so you may switch the profile instead if you are not doing that ...
..and if the NEW battery (or even the OLD) is lasting 2 days than its not that bad.. Sorry for missing out on this earlier. You may wait till the new battery gets some 10-12 recharges which is required for it to stabilise ..

  • Battery freezes computer while charging and causes overheating.

I have an HP Pavilion dv2500 laptop. The battery for it overheats the computer, freezes the computer while attempting to charge at 100% (when I look at the battery controls it sometimes says it’s at 6%, 0% and then switches to 100%), and slows down the speed of the startup while plugged into the computer. When the battery is plugged in and freezes the computer the only way to shut it off is by unplugging the AC Adapter. The computer works fine with just the AC Adapter alone when the battery isn’t plugged in and doesn’t overheat or freeze. I’ve tried putting a fan underneath the computer and it doesn’t help with overheating for the battery.
I also tried contacting HP about the recall on batteries that they've had. They said that my PC didn't qualify when it's having problems specified on the page and the dv2500 series is listed on recall. Does anyone know what’s happening? I’m not even sure of the battery age myself; the computer is almost 2 years old and has been sent to the repair shop on several occasions last year with parts being replaced.
    This question was solved.

Test your AC adapter with multimeter make sure the output the same voltage and ampere as written on the adapter.

  • IPhone not charging and using more battery power while on charger and getting hot

I have an iPhone 4 and have had issues with it charging.  This has happened 3-4 times over the past few months, where I put it on the wall charger prior to going to sleep and wake up with 17-20% battery power.  Last night I placed it on the charger with approximately 70% battery power.  I believe it charged to 100%, I left it on the charger and when I woke this morning the phone was hot (hotter than charging it with the USB) and the power was at 17%.  Any suggestions on what I can do to rectify this issue?  After the iOS upgrade it did and I reset the phone, ran the power completely out and charged 100%.  I don't have any more apps open than usual.  Thanks for any help you can provide!

Having a similar problem with my 3G IPhone.  Battery life is fine but once I plug it in to charge it won't charge.  I have to reset my phone and then it will start to charge as long as I unplug it and then plug it in again.  This problem is something that is intermittent.  I reinstalled the firmware but the problem did not go away. Something that I have noticed is that when this takes place usually the GPS function cannot find my current location at the same time. Once the phone is rest the GPS is fine. The fact that I have reloaded the firmware and the problem has not gone away leads me to think that this is a hardware problem. Well we will see soon I am going to take it in to get checked out. This is sort of annoying but I love the IPhone it is great!!!!

  • Problems with overage charges and making account changes on line

I have quite a bit of history involving my attempts to resolve the problem of catching my account before it goes over the minutes allowed and making the changes on line (to cut down on call volume) to change my account to raise the minutes allowed for that billing cycle.  I was given one reason why it didn't work the first time (I didn't print out my confimation proving I made the changes - bit the bullet and paid those charges) and so the second time wanting to avoid the problem from the first time I made sure I printed out my confirmation.  The confirmation had an effective date of change of 07/19/2012 the day I was informed I was nearing my allowed minutes.  There were only 4 or 5 maximum days left in that billing cycle so I wanted to nip the problem in the bud and make the changes to my account to be made "that" day.  My confirmation said the changes were effective 07/19/2012.  In plently of time before that billing cycle ended.  Again I was told I did something wrong.  This time I'm holding my confirmation in my hand even as the person is telling me again I did it wrong.  The purpose Verizon wants it's customers to use the available on-line option is to cut down on their call volume.  I didn't go to school to get the knowledge apparantly needed to perform these particular tasks in a manner that is acceptable to Verizon.  Has anyone else had problems with trying to fix their problems themselves using Verizons "helpfull" on-line choice?

I have an explanation for you by what was meant by "you did it wrong."
When you make a change effective the date you are requesting it and not at the start or end of your billing cycle, your minute usage for that month is pro-rated.
For example, you say you made a change, because you were nearing your allowance limit, on 7/19/2012 and wanted it effective that day with 5 days left in the billing cycle. Lets assume that your allowance is 700 minutes/month and you were at 675 minutes for that month(still under your monthly allowance). If you make a change effective with 5 days left in your billing cycle to the 1400 minute/month allowance, your allowance for the 1st 25 days of your cycle will have been pro-rated to (25/30) * 700 = 583 minutes. This would mean you would have already had an overage of 92 minutes for the 1st 25 days of the month. Additionally, you would have a pro-rated allowance to use the last 5 days of (5/30) * 1400 = 233 minutes. This is how the pro-rating works when you make a change effective during the middle of your billing cycle.
What you need to do next time to avoid these overage charges is to make the change effective at the beginning of your current billing cycle. So if you had made the change on 7/19/2012, but your billing cycle ended on 7/24/2012(5 days later), you should have made the change effective at the beginning of your current billing cycle, or 6/24/2012. This is called backdating the change. In this instance, you would have received a credit on you account for the cost of the 700 minute plan and been charged the full amount for the 1400 minute plan on your next bill, which I believe is a net additional charge of $10 and you would have had the use of 1400 minutes for throughout the entire month. In this example, you would not have had any overage with your 675 minutes during the 1st 25 days of your cycle and would have been able to use 725 minutes over the last 5 days of your billing cycle. This is much better than the overage charge you would receive with 92 overage minutes @ $0.45/minute = $41.40.
    I hope this explains it.

  • IPod Touch used until battery went flat, starts charging and now it won't stop resetting itself (Apple screen). :(

I have an iPod Touch, fairly old (think it's 3rd gen, has no camera). I used it today until the battery went flat, tried charging it as I normally do and now it's stuck as if it's having the home and off buttons pressed all the time... It keeps rebooting and always just stays to the Apple screen basically.
Tried connecting to iTunes, shows up like it's syncing but, I can't select it to do anything.
Any ideas on how to fix this?

    - Try restoring the iPOd.
    To allow the restore try:
    - a reset.
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Place the iPod in Recovery Mode
    - Placing in DFU mode

  • Serious battery problem ,5g 60gbHELP

The thing is i bought an ipod video 60 GB for christmas and i'm having problems with my battery ,i did the test and it only play for 13 hrs with EQ off, 50% volume level, repeat on, and this is the second time i do the test, and also seems to spend a lot of battery when i leave it turned off in the night, sometimes wake up and the battery is dead, should i call for service?.
    I apreciate your comments.

When you leave the iPod off for a while, it goes into it's "Deep Sleep" mode. Just press a button and the Apple logo will appear, which means that it's "booting up", just like a normal computer.

  • Is there a problem with the itunes and quick time download pages or is it my internet.

Is there a problem with the itunes and quicktime download pages or is it just my internet.

Some more developments ... the issue appears to be browser-specific. I can't see the download controls at the moment in either IE 8 (I'll get your message) or Safari for Windows 5.0.5 (I'll just get the blank box). But I can see the download controls in Firefox 4 and Chrome (whatever version I have of that).
So it might be worth installing Firefox and seeing if you can get the downloads via that:

  • IPhone 4S heats up and quickly drains out battery after upgrading to iOS 8.1.2

Last Sunday i.e. on 14-Dec-2014 i upgraded my iPhone 4S (WiFI + 3G, 64GB) to iOS 8.1.2. Since then my iPhone's battery has started to drain out abnormally fast (it doesn't even last an hour after charging it fully to 100%) and the phone even heats up simultaneously. When checked under Settings> Usage> Battery Usage, i found the app-wise usage of battery like this: Phone (Audio) 36%, WhatsApp-24%, Home & Lock Scree-17%, Settings-7%, Messages-5%, Mail-4%, TOI-2%, Conatact-2%, and rest few apps 1% each. Prior to upgrading the iOS to 8.1.2, the battery life of my iPhone was normal: i just had to recharge once in 24 hours with normal usage of the phone. Could anybody help me to fix the problem? Thanks in advance. -BBS Ijam, GTK/SKM/171214

I think iPhone 4s is oLd now we need to update our as I will have to change my battery from repair center maybe this will solve the problem the new iOS are heavy for our phones.
*** I also have extra internal battery cover for my iPhone. I can't go out without that cover because my iPhone battery drain so fast from 100% it will be maybe 60 % so fast that is so annoying.
Long story short my iPhone is screwed up I think I don't trust my iPhone battery anymore.

Hi and welcome to the forums!
Well obviously I would back off the performance enhancer first.
I don't have any idea of what the package does. If it is a large program residing in the device memory, and even worse if it
transmits and receives data that's going to be a big problem.
From your post it sounds like you were having normal battery life
before this. That would indicate to me that you are properly closing applications, using a media card, etc.
The only question about the battery I have, you mentioned having problems charging. Would that be the length of time it takes
to charge now? That would correlate when a contently drained battery.
    Let me know your thoughts.

  • T61 - Serious Battery Problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hello, im a t61 user for the past 8 months. i have a 6-cell battery. the battery was working fine untill one day (w weeks ago)  the condition of the battery turned from good to fair. i decided to reset the battery guage and after that reset my battery condition turned from fair to poor and ever since that day my battery is continuously decreasing the storage capacity. my battery the could store about 49 % of charge but within 9 days of that reset my battery has dropped down to 15% of charge storage . help!
any solution?? what is wrong?? is there any way to fix this problem?
    mFn

    Hi farhan!
First, if your battery is less than one year old, get it replaced under warranty.
Next, here's something I wrote in answer to a similar question a few weeks ago:
Unfortunately batteries are more chemical than electronic. The
Lithium-ion battery technology used in most laptop batteries should last at least a
year, but can last longer. How long the battery lasts depends on its
environment, how it is used, and its age. Heat, and the number of charge/discharge cycles are big factors. The most informative description of the
technology I know of is The Battery University. There is a nice section on How to prolong lithium-based batteries.
As it points out there, "A lithium-ion battery in use typically lasts
between 2-3 years" but "If used on main power, the battery inside a
laptop will only last for 12-18 months"
    My personal
experience is that my laptop batteries last 12-18 months, but then I
just use them and don't take any precautions to prolong their life. Like car batteries, you have to replace them before you replace the
car. That's just where the technology is. But we should keep pushing
    for improvements!
Lastly, I've also seen the ThinkVantage Power Manager Battery Gauge Reset tip marginal batteries over the edge, but in every case, the battery had served me well, was over a year old, and well-used. My experience is that the Battery Gauge Reset certainly can give you extra run time from healthy batteries.
