Server Admin suddenly cannot find the host it runs on
I am running mac osx server, snow leopard. It ran fine until just recently. Suddenly Server App is unable to find the host it runs on.
I enter the hosts IP address on the local network, log in with my administrator username and password, and the system comes back telling me
Could not connect to <ip address>
Server Admin was unable to connect to the server at <~ip address>
Server Preferences tells me that this host cannot be found on the network too.
Point is however that both these apps run on the host with that very IP address. It is set up in System Preferences > Network, and is hardcoded, not given by the DHCP server in the router. I can also connect to the web server running on this host using the laptop and an ipad.
This is quite annoying, especially as Server Admin is the only app that lets you manage the host it runs.
Mac mini, OS X Server, version os os x server is 10.6.8

I can run my programs perfectly on another machine with Windows XP. I've got a new machine with Vista Home Premium 64, but I have been never able to launch the server. I don't know if this has something to do with the system environment variables.
I'm using JDeveloper Studio Edition Version 11.1.1.1.0, and Weblogic Server 10.3.
Thanks in advance! :)Hi,
Try this.
Edit your registry and go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem
Change the value for NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation to 1 (if the key does not exist, create a DWORD key with that name and set the value to 1).
Delete your DefaultDomain folder from the system folder.
Restart the machine, start the jdev and run the page.

I've found a few treads and posts related to this error, but none of the answers seem to work. I have DPM 2010 U7 server backing up my file server (Server 2008 R2). The backup of the D: Drive(which hosts all shares) is failing with the following error:
Affected area: D:\Occurred since: 4/23/2014 11:15:26 AMDescription: The replica of Volume D:\ on XXXXX.XXX.XX is inconsistent with the protected data source. All protection activities for data source will fail until the replica is synchronized with consistency check. You can recover data from existing recovery points, but new recovery points cannot be created until the replica is consistent. For SharePoint farm, recovery points will continue getting created with the databases that are consistent. To backup inconsistent databases, run a consistency check on the farm. (ID 3106) DPM encountered an error while performing an operation for \\?\Volume{bb191e08-5d62-4a60-85f1-cdbd7598976b}\XXXX\XXXXX\XXXX\XXXXX\XXXXX\XXXXX\XXXXX\XXXXX\XXXXX on XXXXXX.XXXX.XXX (ID 2033 Details: The system cannot find the file specified (0x80070002))
I've ran SFC /SCANNOW on both servers, rebooted. Ran chckdsk /f on the D: on the file server, rebooted again. Still having the same issue. The BMR and System State backups run just fine, along with the backup of the C:
I am getting the following error on the file server for volsnap.
The shadow copies of volume D: were deleted because the shadow copy storage could not grow in time. Consider reducing the IO load on the system or choose a shadow copy storage volume that is not being shadow copied.
Which caused me to try moving the shadow copy storage to the C:, but then it just fails with the following error. Which makes since as the C drive is 136GB, while the D drive is 27TB.
The shadow copies of volume D: were aborted because the shadow copy storage failed to grow.
Lastly I deleted the entire replica and recreated the protection, with no luck. I tried to just slowly create the replica by adding one small parts at a time, currently its failing while trying to backup ~300GB.
I've checked the VSS Writiers on the file server, everything looks correct. Here is the print out.

It is strange that the issue still exists after recreating backup.
Please try again to clear all replica, and specifically, move the folder involved in this error to another location such as Drive C and see if issue still exists.
Meanwhile please test if Windows Server Backup works or not.

Belkin wireless router connected but browser could not find the host server
my new roommate has a belkin n wireless router connected to a cable modem which functions perfectly on her pc laptop. i am trying to connect my MacBook Pro to the router using her WEP password. this all works fine and my System Preferences/Network/Status shows that AirPort is connected with full strength, but i cannot load any web pages (i have not yet been able to load any pages at all using this router). the page load error reads "Firefox can't find the server at www.cnn.com" and "The browser could not find the host server for the provided address".
I spoke with Belkin support and they say the router is functioning properly, that is a problem with my mac.
When I go to Network Diagnostics, the status shows all green and says "This computer's Internet connection appears to be operating normally. Are you sure you want to use Network Diagnostics?
Could this be a firewall issue? A couple people have suggested that, but I'm not sure how to fix that.
I have tried rebooting the router and cable modem, rebooting the mac, etc.
any ideas on what settings i may need to investigate??
thank you!

how do I know if the router has useful DNS servers? i am looking at the settings of the router on the pc that is online.
Somewhere in the settings of the router should be the DNS servers that it is using. Since the router is offering via DHCP to do DNS translation for your Mac, it must have useful DNS servers listed.
There are "public" DNS servers. I have no experience with it, but this Web page describes one from Google:
http://code.google.com/speed/public-dns/
Supposedly Google has a DNS server at IP addresses 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 that you might try. Since the DNS server setting on your Mac is grayed out, as a test you might try noting the setting in the "TCP/IP" tab of your AirPort connection item of the Network panel of System Preferences. Then switch from "Using DHCP" to "Manually", fill in the values you just noted, switch to the DNS tab and fill in Google's DNS addresses, and see if things work better.
do you have any other suggestions of where to seek help???
Perhaps a Belkin discussion group? -
Can not receive Mac mail -error Outlook cannot find the server. Verify the server information is entered correctly in the Account Settings, and that your DNS settings in the Network pane of System Preferences are correct. Account name: "MacMail"
What are the correct mail account settings and more importantly the correct DNS settings
Thank you for any help you may be able to provide
Cheers
Chris (iMac i7)Do not delete the old account yet. sign up for an iCloud account if you haven't.
I understand .mac mail will still come through. Do not delete the old account yet.
You cannot use .mac or MobileMe as type of Account, you have to choose IMAP when setting up, otherwise Mail is hard coded to change imap.mail.me.com to mail.me.com & smtp.mail.me.com to smtp.me.com, no matter what you try to enter.
iCloud Mail setup, do not choose .mac or MobileMe as type, but choose IMAP...
On second step where it asks "Description", it has to be a unique name, but you can still use your email address.
IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:
• Server name: imap.mail.me.com
• SSL Required: Yes
• Port: 993
• Username: (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
• Password: Your iCloud password
SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:
• Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
• SSL Required: Yes
• Port: 587
• SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
• Username: (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
• Password: Your iCloud password
Also, you must upgrade your password to meet the new criteria: 8 characters, including upper and lower case and numbers. If you have an older password that does not meet these criteria, when you try to setup mail on your mac, using all of the IMAP criteria listed above, it will still give a server error message. Go to http://appleid.apple.com then follow directions to change your password, then go back to setting up your mail using the IMAP instructions above.

Safari and firefox 'cannot find the server' for every other page that i navigate to, unless I turn Wifi off and on. Once i reconnect to the network, the page loads, but after loading a few more pages, the same thing happens all over again.
This happens each and every time, on different Wifi networks, in different locations. On the other hand, I don't ever encounter this problem when I tether my laptop to my mobile phone's 3g/2g network using Personal Hotspot. How do I fix this?Try this DNS server ...
Open System Preferences > Network > Advanced > DNS
Click + and type:
208.67.222.222
Click + again and do the same.
208.67.220.220
Click OK.
Quit and relaunch both your browsers to test.
If that doesn't help, try here > iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
And here > Wi-Fi: How to troubleshoot Wi-Fi connectivity -
Symptom One
You attempt to
schedule a backup every day via Windows Server Backup on Windows Server 2008 R2. At the beginning, the backup works without issue. But after a few days it failed and you receive the error “Windows Server Backup:
The system cannot find the path specified.”
Cause
The issue may occur if there is
no shadow copy storage space available on the backup volume.
Verify
You can use the List ShadowStorage command to check if you have enough storage space to store the newly created shadow copy. If you've reviewed the size of the backup snapshot and discovered
that there is no allocated space for the storage association, you need to resize shadowstorage.
Solution
You could run the command below to create shadow copy storage space on the backup volume:
vssadmin resize
shadowstorage /for=<ForVolumeSpec> /on=<OnVolumeSpec> [/maxsize=<MaxSizeSpec>]
More Information
Vssadmin resize shadowstorage
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc788050.aspx
Symptom Two
When you add
another external hard drive to backup schedule via Windows Server Backup on Windows Server 2012, it fails and you receive the error “The System cannot find the path specified.”
Cause
The issue is due to the
Original Destination Disk was not attached to the server.
Verify
You could check the disk status in Disk Management to see if the Original Destination Disk is offline or removed.
Solution
You need to attach
Original Destination Disk to the Server then choose another external hard drive as backup target. After that, you could remove the Original Destination Disk.
Workaround
To work around this issue, please use the WBADMIN command line tool to add disk.
WBADMIN ENABLE BACKUP -addtarget :{ DiskID}
The AddTarget parameter takes disk ID as parameter. It can be retrieved by running "WBADMIN GET DISKS" command.
Example:
WBADMIN ENABLE BACKUP
-addtarget :{ aa123d14-bba0-1dd9-0d93-80aaaa6bbb63}
More Information
Wbadmin enable backup

Solution:
Search for the physical files(mdf/ldf) in the OS and copy to target location and the re-run sp_attach_db with right location and name of mdf/ldf. -
Safari cannot find the server and question mark in blue square
Hi
I consistently have problems with safari displaying the message safari cannot find the server. The version I have is 5.1.8 and I installed a security update today (23.3.13) hoping it would solve the problem. After refreshing the page a couple of times or restarting safari everything works as normal but this is an ongoing issue. I also have problems with images loading on sites. They appear as blue squares with question marks. I have tried most things people have said on the net but nothing is working.
Please help!
ThanksHI aad1612,
Try deleting the safari plist by foloowing these instructions:
Close Safari
Open a Finder window
Click on "Go" in the upper status bar
Click and HOLD the alt/option key (Library should appear in the above list)
Keep holding the alt/otion key and click on Library (this will open a new window)
Open the Preference folder (NOT Preference Panes)
Look for com.apple.Safari.plist
Right mouse client to move this file to trash
Empty the trash
Open Safari again and hopefully your issue will be reoslved.

"The Server cannot find the document corresponding to the document id"
Periodically when we schedule a Discoverer Report (Apps EUL) we get the following error:
"The Server cannot find the document corresponding to the document id sent for open"
Months back Oracle told us to do the following as a workaround:
Log into Oracle Desktop, schedule something, then go back to OracleBI Discoverer Plus.
The error goes away.
This is an insane workaround. Has anyone seen this error and found a patch or a realistic workaround.
Thanks,
BobBob.
I haven't seen this problem, but sure makes me wonder what Oracle is up to, when they essentially tell you to "give the scheduler a good slap via Disco Desktop" every now and then.
Maybe is you created an SR in Metalink you could slap them back on this one!

Hi All,
When I run a page in Jdeveloper (even the successfully tested projects), i get the output page as Cannot find the server. In my Embedded OC4j preferences, i have given my local IP as prefered as I am using VPN. Then , the proxy settings as No proxy (again cuz of VPN). Kindly help me out in solving the issue, i have even tried deleting the base folders and re zipped to C drive, yet no luck.
Thanks
NarainThe issue got solved. I changed my browser from Internet explorer to Firefox and included my local IP in its exception list of proxys and it worked.
Thanks

Thunderbird was working and then for no reason it stopped downloading emails from the web server. I can access my emails in the web server okay. I have tried to remove my account and then add it again as a new account but I get a message saying that Thunderbird cannot find the email server. I have also tried to uninstall and reinstall Thunderbird but with the same result. I have also tried to remove the default mail server but have been unable to do so. How can I fix this?
I figured out a workaround.... Since I can get e-mails to populate via iSync and my other computer is running Leopard (it's a powerpc chip and can't run Snow Leopard), I added the account on the other computer and got the new account to populate into my SL machine with iSync. I don't like that I can't actually add the account directly, but at least this got me working.

Linksys EA6700, "Cannot find the DHCP server"
Hello all
I have a Linksys EA6700 router that has given me problems the three months I've had it.
Typically I get the message "Cannot find the DHCP server" or no message at all. I have everything from three to eight PC's, SqueezeBoxes, Blu-ray players etc hooked up to it.
Very often one or several of these cannot find the server.
Is there an easy solution to this problem?
Any help appreciated!
JanYou can set static ip information on wireless devices that don't connect to other wireless networks.
Use software like "Wifi Analyzer" for andriod or "inSSIDer" for PC.
Make sure your wireless signals channels don't overlap with other strong wireless signals and space your wireless channels at least 3 or more channels apart.
Please remember to Kudo those that help you.

"Cannot find the DHCP server" message in 2012 R2
Hello All,
I am running Server 2012 R2 with a DHCP server running on it(usually). Every few days or so, when I go into my DHCP console, I click on my server and I get the above message written in the topic of this thread?? Does anyone know why this is happening?
The server is literally on all the time. It mentions that the DHCP service isn't running, but what can be shutting that down? From what I have tried, the only way for me to rectifiy the issue is to do a restart during non-peak hours and the DHCP
server comes right up no problem. It doesn't seem like I am having DHCP problems in my organization even though this message is up. Any ideas?
Thanks,
ChrisHi Chris,
How are things going?
Based on your description, you get “Cannot find the DHCP server” message, but it seems that the DHCP services in your organization has no problems.
I agree with Jugganutz1871. In addition, have you recently made some changes in your DHCP server or your network? Such as, there are some cases with firewall.
If there are any updates, please feel free to let us know.
Best Regards,
Tina
