Server state is set to 'FAILED_NOT_RESTARTABLE' during shutdown?

The managed server (in a clustered environment) starts fine but while shutting down for some reason the server state is set to FAILED_NOT_RESTARTABLE. I also noticed that the Node Manager is unable to get the process id (null).
Any help will be much appreciated.
Thank you.

  • SQL Server XQuery: Sequence Expression - What is @x in the code statement of DECLARE @x xml; ? What is N in the code statement of SET @x = N ' '; ?

    Hi all,
    I did the basic stuff of T-SQL long time ago. I dive in to do the SQL Server XQuery programming. I saw the following set of code statements from a tutotial website:
    DECLARE @x xml;
    SET @x = N'';
    SELECT @x.query('(1,2,(10,11,12,13,14,15)),-6');
    1) What is @x in the code statement of DECLARE @x xml;? What is N in the code statement of SET @x = N ' '?
    2) Is the N in the code statement of SET @x = N ' '; absobutally necessary in the SQL Server XQuery programming?  From XQuery Language Reference of SQL Server 2012 Books Online, I saw the following set of code statements:
    DECLARE @x XML
    SET @x = '<a/>'
    SELECT @x.query('if (/a[1]) then "true" else "false"')
    go
    I wonder why there is no N in the code statement of the XQuery Language Reference?
    Please kindly help, clarify my confusions and answer my questions mentioned above.
    Thanks in advance,
    Scott Chang

    @x is a variable with xml data type. An N prefix stands for the string in Unicode. The N is not necessary in the SQL Server XQuery programming if the values of the element or attribute in the xml are not in an international language.

  • "Ignore Sessions During Shutdown" and "Graceful Shutdown Sequence"

    Hi
    I have J2EE application consisting of WEB and EJB layers deployed on WL 8.1
    I start the Graceful Shutdown Sequence with Ignore Sessions During Shutdown option set. sessionDestroyed() method of registered HttpSessionListener is fired but at this moment JNDI tree is already empty, EJB module undeployed and the listener is not able to get to application's EJBs.
    In the documentation (http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs81/adminguide/overview_lifecycle.html#1045901) Ignore Sessions During Shutdown option is explained as follows:
    "If you enable this option WebLogic Server will drop all HTTP sessions immediately, rather than waiting for them to complete or timeout."
    What does "drop" mean here? Is this some exception to Graceful Shutdown Sequence and the following excerpt from the documentation? : "During a graceful shutdown, subsystems complete in-flight work and suspend themselves in a specific sequence and in a synchronized fashion, so that back-end subsystems like JDBC connection pools are available when front-end subsystems are suspending themselves."

  • Composite state is set to "off"

    I have two composites which both use an OA Adapter to dequeue messages from ECX_OUTBOUND (the XML Gateway outbound queue). In order to prevent interference between the two composites, I shut down one (called UpdatePerson) using Enterprise Manager. When I examine the diagnostic log, I find that when a message is enqueued, UpdatePerson attempts something, as seen in the messages below. Is it correct then to assume that there is a runtime overhead to having composites that are shutdown but not undeployed? How significant is this overhead?

  • Server state saving restores view even request params changed for same page

    hi all,
    i've a problem with the state saving method of JSF... environment: JSF1.1, WAS6, Spring2.0..
    i have two buttons those POP UP an IFRAME inside with a details page..
    <input type="button" onclick="openDetailsPage('detailsPage.jsp?id=1');" value="show first record's details" />
    <input type="button" onclick="openDetailsPage('detailsPage.jsp?id=2);" value="show second record's details" />
    detailspage gets the "id" param and query&show the details of the requested data IF THE REQUEST IS NOT POSTBACK... like below;
    public void onPreRender() {
    if (!isPostBack()) {
    // get id from param, query the record and show its details...
    problem is; if i set the state_saving_method as "server"; jsf is creating view only for the first time... after that, no matter what record info i sent, it's restoring the old page...
    however, there's no problem if i set state_saving_method=client... my details page view is being created in every request...
    what may be the problem? when the server state saving method used, it's not creating just restoring the previously opened page in every click...
    thanks in advance,
    hasan...

  • Monitoring for recovered server state?

    We have seen one of our app servers go into a recovered state from time to time during recon. We have some ideas why this is happening, but we also have a monitoring tool that we would like to use to moitor for this.
    Question is this, where does this event get logged in the db? I can't see anything in the syslog table. Am I looking in the wrong place?
    Thanks!

    Hi ,
    The state of each server in the pool is stored in an XML object named after the server.
    Look at Debug Page - > List Object (Select Server)

  • Leopard Server in educational setting

    I currently have a panther server which is going to be replaced by a new snow leopard server. My current server has two HDs that are mirrored. All students (380 kids in the school) are authenticated and save to their home directories on this server. They can then use laptops, computers in the lab and other rooms to easily access their data. It has worked FLAWLESSLY for the last 5 years.
    Now, the new server is MUCH more powerful, comes with 3 HD (1 for system, 1 for data, 1 for backup using retrospect) and has a lot more RAM than my current Panther machine. I am told that it will be setup so students will save to their client machine, have a mobile account where the data will be transferred or synced.
    After doing some research on this I came upon John Welsh's article that he wrote on Oct 16, 2009 where he gave a favorable recommendation to the 10.6 server and talked about login and logout syncing.
    So, here is my question. When I have a class of 30 kids all logging out at one time, saving their documents, and then having the server sync all of them to their home directories at the same time, is this more efficient than having them save directly to the server (I have no applications running on the server, these are installed on the clients throughout the building) at different times during the period? For example, if I have a class of kids working on a Word project chances are they will be saving at different times and thereby hitting the server in small increments instead of all at one time when the period ends. Also, when logging out it would seem to be a lot less effort for the server just to deauthenticate them rather than having to save everything they have done to their home directory.
    Perhaps a business server should be set up differently than a school since I doubt everyone in an office, even if you had 30 people in the office would be logging out at exactly the same time like a classroom of 30 kids.
    Question is then what do some of you feel is the best way to setup an OSX 10.6 server for a school of 400 kids. The kids have access to the lab which will have 30 new imacs, a classroom set of computer (emacs running Tiger) and a set of laptops running 10.5.
    I don't want real intricate details but some overall guidelines. Oh, I have 1000 mb/s routers and switches.
    Also, as as sidelight, is there anything wrong with mirrored HDs? If one goes bad the other takes over immediately. If a Panther server could do this, wouldn't this be okay for a snow leopard server?
    Thanks for any advice you can offer.
    Bob Barr

    Hi Bob
    You've had no takers so far so here's my tuppenceworth:
    +"is there anything wrong with mirrored HDs?"+
    No not really. Bear in mind a RAID Mirror is not a backup.
    +"If one goes bad the other takes over immediately?"+
    If you want to put it that way. The secondary mirror is an exact 'copy' of the primary. If the primary fails the mirror takes over (with little or no perceived downtime). Mirrors are generally considered 'slower' than Stripes. Two writes instead of one. But that's the price you pay for redundancy. What plans have you made if both drives fail? Consider the worst possible scenario and depending on budget plan for it.
    +"If a Panther server could do this, wouldn't this be okay for a snow leopard server?"+
    Yes. Software RAID is also available in the client OS.
    If I've understood your post correctly the XServe is populated with 3 drives? Have you considered Apple's Hardware RAID Card? This would offer Performance and Redundancy - RAID 5. You would still need a backup strategy/plan.
    In an environment like yours - generally - I would mirror the drive used for data and install the OS on the other drive. Apart from the system don't store anything else of importance on it. You could compliment this with an externally attached firewire drive (or two) if you wish? One as a nightly or weekly or monthly scheduled clone/backup of the Server OS itself and similarly one for the Data. That way if the Server drive goes down Student Data is not affected. Replacing the Drive and getting the server up and running again should not take too long if that happens.
    Depending on how many simultaneous logins you're trying to provide for then you may want to consider Replicas for load balancing purposes? is it safe to assume 380 kids = 380 workstations?
    Educational needs in general are different to Business ones. Based on what you're saying it makes no sense (for me) to cache student profiles locally - unless it's for performance reasons? If Students are not going to be impacting the network bandwidth with video editing/rendering etc leave their profiles on the server. Management in many ways is simpler/easier that way. Yes multiple simultaneous syncing at log out does/will have an impact on the network as a whole although you can control what gets synced. There's no need to sync everything.
    Another way of doing this is to have students log in locally with a standard 'generic' student account. They work as normal and save/upload their data to their Server-based home folder. Access to the parent folder housing student homes can be defined as an auto-mounting share point via a Computer Group MCX. Students will 'see' everyone else's home folder but will have no access to them other than their own.
    There are still further ways of doing this depending on the environment? For example AD-OD Integrated environments and dual homes?
    Ultimately it will depend on what you want to achieve? AFAICS there's no reason you can't have with 10.6 what you have with 10.3? If it's been working flawlessly for the last 5 years and provided you've prepared the ground properly first, it should continue in the same way for the next 5?
    HTH?
    Tony

  • MS SQL Server Statement could not be prepared. (WIS 10901)

    Here is my situation. We are running Edge 3.0 using SQL Server 2005. I have a Webi report that I created with an existing Universe and the report is able to run fine. I didn't create the Universe, but I had to add new tables to the Universe.
    For some reason when I went to create a System DSN to connect to the Universe, it didn't save the System DSN, but I was able to save it as a User DSN using the same name as the System DSN created on the BOXI Server. I was able to add the new tables and objects.
    I then went to add the new objects to the existing web report and ran the query, I then received the error "A database error occured. The database error text is: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Statement(s) could not be prepared.. (WIS 10901)". If I removed the new objects, I am able to run the Query fine.
    When I add the new objects, I can look at the SQL, copy it and run it in MS SQL Server. Once I try to run the query with the new objects, I get the previously stated database error. Then I try to generate the SQL and get the message that Webi can't generate the SQL even though I was able to see the SQL if I hadn't run it.
    I am not sure why I am getting this error, because the report is able to run before adding any new objects. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks

    The issue was that I needed to get permission on my computer to create a system DSN and not use a local DSN. My local policy was changed on my computer.
    But I am now writing a different report and getting the same error. Let me explain the situation.
    The report was created and running fine, but the database was created by someone and it only contained partial data. The database is created in a star schema. I had to add more dimension tables. The fact table already had all the columns for the new dimension tables but had a default value of -1. Once I added the missing dimension tables, I reran the DI job that re-populated the fact table with data from all dimension tables. When I go now and run the report if I only run a query with the old dimensions, then the report runs fine and returns data. If I add a object from the newly created dimension fields then I get the error 'A database error occured. The database text is: ... Statement(s) could not be prepared. (WIS 10901)'.
    I am not sure where the problem is. The report is using the same System DSN and the SQL created from the new dimensions works just fine in SQL Server Management Studio. We use Windows AD authentication and use an Windows users as our system account to access the database and it has read permissions.
    Any help would be great. Thanks

  • Setting up a new server - terminology and set up

    I have a new mac OS X snow leopard mac mini server.
    The set up is a follows:
    The modem goes into the Time capsule router and from the time capsule there is the mac mini server and also a network printer. There are 4 other computers wirelessly 'attached' to the time capsule.
    I am very confused about some of the terminology and the set up procedure.
    First of all, I might have made a mistake when I did my initial setup without being attached properly to a public IP address. I set up my server inadvertently as hobbes.private. When I go to the server preferences now the DNS is listed as hobbes.private. First of all, is there anyway to change that?
    The set up goes as follows:
    I have a public IP address which is set at the router. From the router there is a designated IP address which goes to the server.
    I have my A records and MX records set up.
    my Domain name is hobbeswiki.com
    the IP address is 114.160.205.178
    When I do an NS lookup IP address, I get this:
    Non-authoritative answer:
    178.205.160.114.in-addr.arpa name = p4018-ipngnfx01morioka.iwate.ocn.ne.jp.
    I've been told that this is normal.
    I use a company in australia for my domain name and they have given me 2 name servers:
    ns1.secure.net
    ns2.secure.net
    The router then takes the info and then gives me an IP address for the server
    its a 10.X.X.X number.
    When I set up my server properly with the IP address, it set up as hobbes.local and under available servers, under network in the server admin, it gives me
    Ethernet (en0) Family IPv4 the 10.X IP address and the DNS name as hobbes.local
    I tried setting up DNS but it won't take.
    I don't know how to set up kerberos, but I want to get the functionality of the podcasting etc, but it tells me I need it.
    I have an SSL certificate.
    With all this info, how can I set this server up and do I need to start from scratch? Do I need to erase the current server and start from the beginning? Is this hobbes.private causing problems?
    In the DNS settings there are just so many different names for different things and I'm not sure what goes where.
    I have a lynda.com account, but I'm not sure their info is the same as mine and they have words like server.samplename.com etc...
    Can someone help?
    The web set up works and I've got a couple users and groups set up to try things out, so it's not a complete failure.... I just can't get anything else to work.
    Thank you!

Please help!

    You will need to get the required info to create/access the account with an email client from your school.
    Are you currently accessing the account with an email client on your computer - if you have a Mac with the Mail.app, or if you have a PC with Outlook Express, etc.? If so, you can get the required account settings there.
