STMS question

guys,
we have been in production since a couple of months. Till now, we were importing the requests into qa and production manually from the import queue. Now, I would like to automate a couple of things.
I have 3 system landscape with following clients: DEV 100 (master configuration), DEV 200 (unit testing), QA 100 (master qa client), QA 200 (testing client) and PROD 100 (production client). I would like that everything that is released from DEV 100 gets imported into the 2 QA clients. I understand that I would need to setup the transport route for this. However, I dont understand how does the background import job differentiates between the workbench requests and customizing requests, because once a workbench request has been released from DEV 100, it does not make sense to import it into DEV 200 and also the second client in QA because it contains client independent changes ????
My second question is regarding the QA approval procedure. I would like that only the approved requests from QA should go into the import buffer of production. Then There should be a periodic job in production that imports these requests. How do i accomplish this ?? Also, what happens to the requests that have been rejected in QA ?? do they still remain in the QA import buffer ??? Obviously thats not we want.
Please advise.
Thanks.

Hi,
I think this would be possible with Client-specific transport targets. The transport targets of consolidation and delivery routes can specify a client. Client specific transport targets are in the form of <SID>.<client> (for example, QAS.100). Transport target groups would combine several client-specific transport targets under a symbolic name. .
Also, what happens to the requests that have been rejected in QA ?? do they still remain in the QA import buffer ???
Yes, they would.. you would reject a request in QA only after importing it in QA. so if you reject it would still be there in QA import buffer and will be inactive at PRD import queue. thats why its recommended not to reject request, but however if any fix is required, to be done in a susequent request and then transport both requests together.
When you choose the transport button in STMS import queue, there would be a option to schedule the job. When the job is scheduled periodically, it would do the import based on the import strategy (single/mass). Follow the below link for details.

  • A question about STMS configuration

I have a landscape with  3 systems and I configure the STMS for them.
The DEV is C11, QA is A11 and PRD is L11.
(Note: This is because we have too many systems so that many SIDs such as D11, Q11 and P11 are already used).
I mistakingly configured A11->C11->L11. Because both A11 and C11 have changeable clients, this configuration had been
used for a while before this mistake was discovered.
I wonder whether there is any parameter we can set so that C11 can only be the 1st system in the landscape...?
(note: again this is because we could have similar mistakes down the road.)
I have looked into the tp profile but failed to find one.
Could you help me with this?
    Thanks!
    Thanks!

    Hi,
I am afraid there is any parameter which helps you. As far as I know, it will exactly follow the transport route you configured

If the minimum focus distance with this lense is 15.4 inches and I were to add the 25mm extension tube, does that mean that I can go closer to the subject, or is the 15.4 inches still minimum but the extension tube simply makes the subject look larger?  And, how much larger?
I've read some guidelines but I'm still not getting it

I saw that calculator earlier, but I didn't understand how they could show the new MFD (or in this case, CFD) without knowing the previous, based on which lens you use.  Is the CFD the same for all (non) lenses?  I guess I always assumed that the MFD for any specific lens depended on the internal elements of the lens.

  • Error while configuring STMS

    Hi
    While configuring TMS ,
I just entered STMS. in 000 client. it pops up a dialog box with details like DOMAIN_CFG and after that i tried to save same. It has give me error that  The password must contain at least 3 digits (0-9)
Can any one help in this regard.

    HI Atul,
When you enter STMS for the first time it will create the DOMAIN_CFG

tmsadm@domainname and other. It will not ask any password.
Can u be clear with ur question exactly what problem ur getting?
Is this the first time you are trying to configure stms or you want to move

  • How to determine who has done a transport in STMS ?

    Hello,
Is there a table, program or transaction ... which can tell us who has done a transport by STMS in a machine ? In the cofile and data file there is no information ....
    Thanks.

Yes, it's there after choosing "Edit -> Display more" in the import history.
Also consider asking STMS related questions in forum "SAP Netweaver administrator" next time.

  • Error during STMS configuration

I had perform a system copy with different system ID from the source system successfully. I encounter some problem during the STMS configuration. I already set all the configuration for the target system but when I tried to transport one configuration from one client to another, it prompts out error as below:
Transport control program tp ended with error code 0247
Errors: addtobuffer has problems with data- and/or cofile
However, when I check back the source system, there are no such problem even without the 2 files above.

If I did not use the same name as the source system database, the transport number will begin with the new system ID. Is there way where I can import the transport number from the source system to the target system?
In normal practice, SID of development, quality and production system's SID's are different, and we do the transport between these systems. So, answer of your question is you can do the transport if SID is different.
My question to you are :
Have you reconfigured STMS after system refresh ? What is role of the system that is created after system copy ? What is transport route of your systems in which are doing transport ?
    Thanks

  • STMS: Add a great number of transport requests to the queue

    Hi everybody!
we make a system copy and I have two questions regarding this.
    1. After the system has been copied, we have to add a great number of transport requests to the transport queue (transaction STMS). Is there a report to to this?
    2. Of course, the transport requests added to the queue have to be imported. Is it possible to mark them all at a time and then start the import? I mean, if one specific object (for instance a reportsource) is part of several transport requests, does the STMS ensure that they are imported in the correct order, so that the following won't happen: a imported object is overwritten by a older version.
Thanks for your help in advance.
    Regards
    CHRIS

As Sunny said you can do it from OS as there is no SAP program. Create a file with the all transports no. that you want to add to the buffer at the OS level. Here is the script that we use:
    for i in `cat file_name`
    do
    tp addtobuffer $i SID client=xxx pf=TP_DOMAIN_SID.PFL
    done
For you second question, the sequence of import into the system will be based on how they are listed in the STMS queue. So first transports goes first then the second, third and so on.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks,
    Naveed

  • STM vs shared variable

From what I have seen on the forum so far, it seems to me that compared to shared variable, STM is better with different data type and bigger data size. The only thing that makes shared variable slightly better than STM is being a bit more simple.  If that's the case, why use shared variable at all?  Are there aplication where shared variable is a lot better than STM?

Yup, you can set up multiple connections with STM, but it does not come with the stock examples. You'll have to do quite a bit of development to make it happen. This is the implementation i plan to go with, and the work involved is what is preventing me from going this direction.
Getting off-topic a bit from the original question here, but I wrote a server in LabVIEW that used the TCP primitives and handled multiple connections.  The same approach should work for the STM, using STM connection info clusters in place of connection references.  In case it's of use to you, here's what I did (unfortunately I no longer have access to that code, it was several jobs ago):
    - have one loop dedicated to listening for new connections.  When one arrives, put it in a queue and go back to listening.
    - in another loop, maintain an array of connection ids.  For each connection ID, also store a timestamp.  When a new connection arrives, dequeue it, bundle it with the current time, and add it to the connection ID array.
    - inside the same loop, add another loop to iterate through each connection, checking for data.  If there's data, do whatever you need to with it (usually enqueue it for some other loop to handle), and update the timestamp associated with that connection ID.  Ignore error 56 (timeout) since any connection that doesn't have data will report this error.  For any error that indicates the connection is closed or no longer available, remove that connection from the array.  If the difference between the timestamp for a connection and the current time is greater than some amount, close the connection and remove it from the array (this is optional, but prevents you from leaving connections open that haven't been cleanly closed).
If you're using a command-response scheme, and you pass the data off to another loop to handle, you'll need to track the connection with which it is associated so that the response can be sent to the right place.  I was using "Variant to Flattened String" and "Flattened String to Variant" for data passing over TCP, so I just tacked on the connection information as a variant attribute, but there are many other ways to handle this.

which is development system.now that system is down.and the testing server is TPU.And production is TPU.
I have a doubt that i can delete that domain controller and i can create Domain controller in production and i will add testing system to production.Do i configure the same thing in stms.is it possible to create TMS between two systems with same sid.
    Please suggest me.
    Regards,

    Hi ,
Please find answer to your questions::
    1. i can delete that domain controller and i can create Domain controller in production:: yes you can delete the current configuration & make PRD system as  domian controller .
    2. i will add testing system to production:: yes you can add new system to new domain.
3.is it possible to create TMS between two systems with same sid.:: Same SID will not be supported in one landscape. You must have dieffrent SIDs .If you are asking the question like if you can configure the transport route in same system then you can do it by creatinf a dummy system.

  • Question concerning Web Service Deployment

I have a question on web service deployment as it pertains to multi-client SAP systems.
I created and deployed a web service in the client that is used for the development of client-independent objects. There are no issues when calling the web service following deployment.
I am trying to use the same web service on the same SAP system, but on a different client. What is the proper way for accomplishing this? As of right now, the only way I've been able to do this is to open up the desired client and deploy the service again. I tried to take a transport and copy it to the other client using SCC1, but it failed since all the objects referred to client-independent objects.
Below is the URL of the WSDL that was generated via SOAMANAGER.
    http://svr-sap05-dev.xxx.com:8010/sap/bc/srt/wsdl/bndg_DF2B9EDC2EA40CF1A9B7001CC4459012/wsdl11/allinone/ws_policy/document?sap-client=120
Client 120 is the client used for development and is where the web service was created and deployed. I would like to use the same web service, but in a different client.
I tried in changing the logon parameters of the web service using SICF, but the invocation failed. It only works if the client mentioned in the logon data matches the client specified in the URL.
I am assuming that SAP builds the namespace of the web service using the client specified in the above URL. If this is the case, then I will have no choice but to deploy this service manually in the other client.
Is something wrong being done or do I have to do the same deployment in the other client?
    Regards,
    Vince Castello

In Netweaver 7.01 (with SOAMANAGER) you can no longer deploy webservices via STMS.
You have to login in each client and create endpoints in each one.
It's a pain, but SAP says it's too risky to implement the solution via STMS or something like that.
There is a SAP note about this.

  • Regd: Question in Transpotation and Monitoring

    Dear All,
What are the Common or possible Question will be facing in Interviews in Tranpotation and  Monitroing... For eg: if will check DB02  what we will check and what steps we will take etc... or ST04 what we will do.
    2) What are the Steps to Create Transport Group and its Advantages.
    Regards
    SNB

    Hai,
    Go through this.....
    <b>1.     What is transport domain?</b>
A transport domain comprises all SAP Systems jointly administrated through the TMS(domain controller).
    <b>2.     What is transport group?</b>
Group of SAP systems which are having common transport directory.
<b>3.     How do you configure the TMS?</b>
You must define which R/3 Systems in the system landscape should be combined in a transport domain and which R/3 System is to be the transport domain controller
    Refer Xerox book
    <b>
    4.     What are the transport routes?</b>
A route between any 2 SAP systems in a land scape. Can be a consolidation or delivery path.
Consolidation – between development and quality
Delivery – from quality to production
<b>5.     How do you do the transports?</b>
The transport routes are used to define in which target system
You want to consolidate and deliver change requests.
Transport request will be released in the source system and are imported in the destination system.
SE09 and SE10 are used to release the Transport request
STMS – used to import the request.
In OS level use program tp.
Syntax – tp import <SIDXXX> <SID> clientXXX ux
<b>6.     What will happen during the export process?</b>
Files will be created in the OS level in the transport directory
    R…… - data files
    K…… - control files
    transport directory – usr/sap/trans/data
                        usr/sap/trans/cofiles
<b>7.     What will happen during the import process?</b>
Datas will be imported in to the database. Get in to usr/sap/trans/bin
Syntax – tp import <SIDXXX> <SID> clientXXX ux
<b>8.     What type of files are created duing the export?</b>
    R…… - data files
    K…… - control files
<b>9.     What are the problems usually occurs during the transport and what is return cods?</b>
    Refer book.
    0 – succ
    4- warnings
    8 – error
above 8 – different types of errors
<b>10.     How do you configure transport profile?</b>
The transport control program requires a transport profile that contains information about
establishing the database connection for all R/3 Systems in the transport domain. TMS generates and manages this transport profile as a part of the transport domain configuration. You do not have to adjust the transport prof ile using operating system functions.

  • Refreshing STMS import queue

    Hi All,
I want to know if there is a way (program) that i can use to refresh the import queue in STMS automatically even when the import queue screen is not open. I am experiencing some intresting scenario and i am not sure if its normal. please let me know:
    - I have recently added Sandbox system in the already existed TMS landscape. Domain links are used since Sandbox and DEV are in different network. When i release the transport in DEV its supposed to go to QAS import queue and also to Sandbox import queue in parallel. I can see them in QAS queue automatically without refreshing it, however it does not go to the Sandbox queue even after I refresh the import queue of Sanbox system (from Sandbox System). The only way It goes to the Sandbox import queue in Sandbox Queue is when I  go the the Import Queue of Sandbox system in DEV system and Refresh it there. Is there normal? After I refresh import queue for Sandbox in DEV , i go to the Sandbox system and click on sandbox queue then refresh it there and it comes right through. I understand the concept of adujst the transport files by clicking the green arrow since they dont share same Central Trans Dir and i am also aware of the SAP report to perform this automatically.
-My question is, Why do is it required to refresh the import queue for Sandbox system "in DEV system" ? and is there any Report/Program that i can schedule in the Background in DEV that refreshes all import queues for all systems there even when the import screen is not open?
    please suggest. thanks.

I will put your question in more clear way!!
You are  not able to view the transport in SANDBOX STMS(Auto refersh is active)  untill you refresh from DEV STMS ...Is  this ?? I dont think it should happen you are accesing the same screen from DEV or SANDBOX.
Just try what i have mentioned above
    1) In sandbox select personal setting and do as per firt post
    2) Release any request in DEV (Dont open STMS in DEV system )
    3) Check if transport is available in SANDBOX STMS(Login to SANDBOX only)
    Paste here the observations....
