Service name of connection object change
One project has reported below issue -
"we have seen that the connections SERVICE NAME is changed to
XYZ instead of ABC which happened for 2nd time in this week. Also
try to identify if this is happening automatically or if someone is
making these changes manually."
Initially we have change back to new service name, but after few days
again they reported same issue.
I would like to understand the probable cause of this issue so we can
take some preventive actions.
The Connection Server only comes into play when running reports from the desktop, not through InfoView. And then, only if you're configured so that the database client isn't installed on the workstations of the people who are using those tools.
For WebI and Deski, the connection is defined in the Universe. So, I would look at two things:
1. Who has been updating the universe - you need to look at who has been editing the universe. You may be able to find this out from auditing. I don't have access to my system right now and I don't remember for sure.
2. If you are using Life Cycle Manager, check to see if you have any jobs running that update this universe. Modify the job so that it does not update the connection when moving the universe.

I am new to Oracle and have 8i Personal
installed. I am trying to get an ODBC connection established to the sample database that was installed but it is not working. I have not been able to get the right combination of net service \ listener \ ODBC parameters. I have tried to do Test Database in the Net8 Assistant even on the
EXT_PROCCONNECTION_DAT service name that shipped but always get a ORA12560:Protocol Adaptor error. Should my protocol be IPC or TCP\IP - I am running local and the sample database is local, too. Does anyone know what parameters to use to get a connection or where I can find more about ODBC connections?

You will get the address number. Then go to ADRC table to know the street name.
You will not find the data in a single table.
If you want to find then go to views
V_EHAU_ADDRNR : IS-U Connection Object: Optimized Access for Address Number "you will find address number for connection object.
V_EHAUADR : You will get street name for connection object.

Now, customer is changing the marketing site from english to arabic, now my question is will the logical name of the objects change?
do i need to again build the Object repository for arabic as well or will the logical name remains the same?Hi,
If you developed framework based on objects id, then that will work.
If you used text of objects to identify them( say example click on a link with text 'SignUp') then script will fail - fail to find object with text mentioned in script

Unregister service name from listener

I have a default listener (named LISTENER, port 1521) and a database with SID=ORCL. The database automatically registers with the listener, the output of "lsnrctl status" is:

Is it possible to somehow prevent the database from registering the service name ORCL with the listener?
If you're wondering why I'm asking that, it's because this database is a duplicated production database (on a different host), and I'd like to prevent the possibility of mistakenly connecting to the production DB. I'm aware it would be better if I change the database's SID altogether, but currently that's not possible.

Jut a question at the beginning. Doesn't the SID_LIST_listener_name parameter define which databases the listener listens to (and not the single services the database offers)? As I understand, I can prevent automatic registration of a database into the listener, but not selectively allow only some services the database offers? Maybe I'm completely wrong, so please correct me if it's so :-)

hi,
i made a physical standby database architecture with one db as a production db on PC1 and on the other site i created a physical standby db on PC2 ,,
now i did a SWITCHOVER and after that the db on PC1 become physical standby and db on PC2 has become primary db,,,,
my application running before SWITCHOVER was using a service name that connect it to PC1,,now that application is not running giving me error that initialization or shutdown in progress,,,
what shud i do now?? will i need to change the service name of my application on each client,,,other option is to use an ORACLE NAMES SERVER,,but if i wanna wont use both of the ways then what can i do??

As you say, oracle names as one option. You just go and change the ipaddress/hostname,whatever you use in the tnsnames.
Your end-users are still trying to access the old primary, which is secondary now. And this db is in mount stage, that is the reason they are getting this kind of error.
If you have very less users and can be reachable to change the tnsnames then its okay.

As per SAP Note # 99435 , you should not edit SAPLOGON.ini file manually , instead carry out all changes via SAPLOGon PAD.
Pls add both systems with different IP specifications and respective instance number details.

Change in service name in a connector

I have a connector in OWB 10g R2 which currently points to an instance of Oracle 10g. The DBA has changed the service name. I want to update the connector to point to this new service name.
Is there any way to just change the service name of the location instead of creating a new location and changing the objects to point to this new location?

I am not sure if that is what you mean but I don't think you necessarily need to change lots of objects. If you add a new location and then add that location to the selected database locations for your database modules (via open editor - data locations tab) and check/set (via right mouse click - configure) in the configuration properties that you are using the new data location.
I haven't had the need to do this myslef, but this way you should only need to update some database modules instead of all objects?

TNS service name gives preference to connect instance which is in a mount

why TNS service name give preference to connect instance which is in a mount mode and dsiaply 'ORA-01033' as mentioned below.
I wanted to connect only instance which are OPEN(not MOUNT) using connect string and want to know status of all instances using SQL query "select instance_name,status from gv$instance". How can I achive this?
I have four node rac cluster and four instance, one instance on each node and status of instances are as shown below

I have some commnet on your input.
I have started instance in mount mode using sqlplus. But it doesn't make diffrence if I stated using srvctl since service get ready as we started instance either OPEN/MOUNT mode using srvctl or sqlplus.
As you are saying diffrent way of configuration of service by mentioning preferred and available attributes for instances but its not useful to know instances which are open. Its useful for segregate work to specific nodes by creating diffrent services for diffrent application.
'crs_stat -t' shows resources online even instance is either nomount/mount/open state. I want to exact state of instance so its not useful for me.
Below example showing service get READY status even I start instanc with mount option using SRVCTL

database url is generated based on SID
eg: jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521:SID
Solution
(generate seperate url for SERVICE NAME)
jdbc:oracle:thin:@localhost:1521/SERVICENAME
------------------------It is so clear: host not found error for network connection and the other SID servcie name not found means your oracle instance name is not up. check with srvctl status for given servcie name or node, else check CRS_Stat -t if you are using RAC.

How do I get a new value for the service name field and update it in Connection Properties?
I am running Windows Vista. I just upgraded to Firefox 4. When I try to log on to the internet, it tells me the proxy server is refusing connections. A diagnostic reported Error 815 and said the remote server is not responding because there is an invalid value for the "Service Name" field. It said to get a new value and update it in Connection Properties. How do I do this?

Earlier I used jdbc:oracle:thin:@<<server>:<<port>>:<<SID>> for connecting to individual Oracle server instances.
Now I need to connect to Oracle RAC which provides service names. So I need to use jdbc:oracle:thin:@<<server>:<<port>>/<<service name>>.
This connection string is internally constructed by a program and user inputs <<server>>, <<port>> and <<SID>> or <<Service Name>>. Now this requires two different connection strings based on the input whether its SID or service name.
Is there a common connection string for these two? Based on some articles like this, I understood that we can generically use jdbc:oracle:thin:@<<server>:<<port>>/<<service>>, whether for SID and service.

There are chapters that provide ALL of the connection properties and the rules for creating connection urls.

Custom workflow - props file service name change
All,
I created a custom workflow and registered with OIM with serviceName value as the service name from the SOA composite. I realized that this needs to be changed to RequestApprovalService.
Has anyone done this, if you can you please list the steps.

How to connect the database (JDBC) using service name rather than SID
How should we make the connection to the database using service name. Initially, we are using the SID to make the database connection, with following setting in the data-source.xml in OC4J using ABCDB as the SID.

Multiple VLANs per SSID with local switch
Is it possible to use an 'AP Group' or 'Interface group' to assign multiple VLANs to a WLAN when remote, h-reap APs are in local switch mode? If not, is there a way to overcome 500 maximum host per VLAN when APs are local switching? Thanks!
