ServiceUnavailableException from a servlet

Folks,
I have a servlet running in WL 5.1, sp6 that calls a remote
JNDI, LDAP service. The app works fine under tomcat and as
a standalone lookup in the LDAP directory, however under WL
I get the following exception:
"javax.naming.ServiceUnavailableException [Root exception is java.net.UnknownHostException: Unknown protocol LDAP for lhrldap02.baplc.com/161.2.249.72]"
I've goofed around with the policy file thinking it could
be security/port related, but it appears not to be. Are
there any other configuration parameters that I need to
consider?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Rob

Hi,
Before starting the very first JSF page (and before
the JSF front controller is invoked) I must use a
servlet to read some parameters, init some objects
and then jump to the first JSF page. Some objects
that the bean generates must be saved in a JSF
managed bean.
The question is, how can I set those parameters in
the managed bean if it wasnt still initialised ?
Code like this:
ApplicationFactory factory = (ApplicationFactory)
FactoryFinder.getFactory(FactoryFinder.APPLICATION_FAC
TORY);
Application app = factory.getApplication();
ValueBinding vb =
app.createValueBinding("#{AManagedBean}");
AManagedBean mb=  (AManagedBean)
vb.getValue(FacesContext.getCurrentInstance());     Fails with a null pointer exception (it seems to not
t be finding AmanagedBean).
you didn't even set the value, thats why you are getting a "null pointer exception". Try
vb.setValue(FacesContext.getCurrentInstance(), AManagedBean)
>
Do you know how to set the properties in the
s in the managed bean ? Any comment or help would be
really welcome.
First set any properties of the "AmanagedBean" and then create the value binding in any of the scopes(request, seesion, application)

Thanks in advance,

  • How to call a specific method in a servlet from another servlet

    Hi peeps, this post is kinda linked to my other thread but more direct !!
    I need to call a method from another servlet and retrieve info/objects from that method and manipulate them in the originating servlet .... how can I do it ?
    Assume the originating servlet is called Control and the servlet/method I want to access is DAO/login.
    I can create an object of the DAO class, say newDAO, and access the login method by newDAO.login(username, password). Then how do I get the returned info from the DAO ??
    Can I use the RequestDispatcher to INCLUDE the call to the DAO class method "login" ???
    Cheers
    Kevin

    Thanks for the reply.
    So if I have a method in my DAO class called login() and I want to call it from my control servlet, what would the syntax be ?
    getrequestdispatcher.include(newDAO.login())
    where newDAO is an instance of the class DAO, would that be correct ?? I'd simply pass the request object as a parameter in the login method and to retrieve the results of login() the requestdispatcher.include method will return whatever I set as an attribute to the request object, do I have that right ?!!!!

  • Error while opening a Office 2007 Excel (.xlsx) from a Servlet

    Hi All,
    Actually i am trying to open an excel file from a servlet. It works fine when the file format is .xls. But if it is .xlsx it gives the below error.
    "The file you are trying to open .xlsx is in a different format than specified by the file extension. verify the file is not corrupted and is from trusted source before opening the file. Do you want to open the file now?"
    There is a link in the application. When we click the link it calls the servlet. The servlet calls the DAO. The DAO queries the DB and the whole output is stuffed into a StringBuffer and the StringBuffer is written to the ServletOutputStream. I have used
    File newFile = new File("ABC.xslx");
    response.setContentType("application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.spreadsheetml.sheet");
    I have also included the below in the web.xml file.
    <mime-mapping>
    <extension>xlsx</extension>
    <mime-type>application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.spreadsheetml.sheet</mime-type></mime-mapping>
    Kindly help me out.

  • Can not find my EJB's from my Servlet

    Hi
    I am new to EJB and am trying to get a Servlet to call some sessionless EJB beans. I have got it working in JDeveloper but when I deploy it to orion application server I keep getting a javax.naming.NameNotFoundException exception throw from the Servlet when it tries to find the first EJB.
    The code in the Servlet is:
    env.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, "com.evermind.server.rmi.RMIInitialContextFactory");
    env.put(Context.SECURITY_PRINCIPAL, "admin");
    env.put(Context.SECURITY_CREDENTIALS, "jewels");

    I have been trying for a while to get the JNDI naming right but everything I try gets the above error. Any help would be great.
    Thanks
    Andre

    You have to lookup for "ExponentMappingService", and not "ExponentMappingServiceHome"
    The name you give in the <ejb-name> tag in ejb-jar.xml is the JNDI name of the EJB. This is the name u have to look up.

  • How to get the value from a servlet?

  • PROBLEM while using URL in order to open a file from a servlet

    Hi,
    I am having a problem while trying to open a file from my servlet by using URL connection. Following is my code sample. what happens is when I first run my project it opens the file but after that when I rerun it again and again it sometimes opens it and sometimes not. if it can't open it it gives an error saying "the file is damaged and couldn't be repaired". I don't get any exceptions. if you guys can help me I will appreciate it so much... thanks.
    here is my code :
    URL url = new URL("http://demobcs.ibm.com:81/test.pdf");
    resp.setContentType(getContentType("http://demobcs.ibm.com:81/test.pdf"));
              ServletOutputStream sos = null;
              BufferedInputStream bis = null;
              try {
                   sos = resp.getOutputStream();
              } catch (Exception e) {
                   System.out.println("exception !!!!");
                   e.printStackTrace();
              System.out.println("burada2");
              try {
                   byte[] bytes = new byte[4096];
                   //bis = new BufferedInputStream(conn.getInputStream());
                   DataInputStream in = new DataInputStream(url.openStream());
                   //DataInputStream in = new DataInputStream(conn.getInputStream());
                   bis = new BufferedInputStream(in);
                   int j;
                   while ((j = bis.read(bytes, 0, 4096)) != -1) {
                        try {
                             sos.write(bytes, 0, 4096);
                             System.out.println("file is being read ...:");
                        } catch (Exception e) {
                             e.printStackTrace();
                   in.close();
                   bis.close();
                   //sos.close();
              } catch (Exception e) {
                   System.out.println("exception :"+e.toString());
                   e.printStackTrace();
              }

    You are writing (<filesize> mod 4096) bytes of crap at the end of the file. Use your variable j instead for the number of bytes to write in your loop.

    Is there an easier way to send an email from a servlet?
    Thanks
    tzaf

    It's not a matter of "easier way" to send mail from servlet...you are missing a crucial element in your code: authorization to send mail. You need something like this (some of which you have already so note what is different):
            Properties properties = new Properties();
            properties.put("mail.smtp.host", String3 );
            properties.put("mail.smtp.dsn.notify", "SUCCESS" );
            properties.put("mail.smtp.host", "mailservernamegoeshere");
            properties.put("mail.smtp.auth", "true");
            MyAuthenticator auth = new MyAuthenticator();
            auth.setUser("user whos account you want to use goes here");
            auth.setPassword("user password goes here");
            Session session = Session.getDefaultInstance( properties,auth );Here is the auth class:
    class MyAuthenticator extends Authenticator {
       protected String m_strUser     = null;
       protected String m_strPassword = null;
       protected PasswordAuthentication getPasswordAuthentication()  {
          return new PasswordAuthentication(m_strUser,m_strPassword);
       public void setUser(String strUser)  {
          m_strUser = strUser;
       public void setPassword(String strPassword)  {
          m_strPassword = strPassword;

  • How can I call an ".asp" from a Servlet?

    I want to make a call to an asp page from my servlet. If i use the conventional way of doing it as follows:
    RequestDispatcher rd = getServletContext().getRequestDispatcher("http://localhost:8080/abc.asp");
    rd.forward(request, response)
    It gives me IllegalArgumentException saying that the "Path must be absolute". And if i give the relative path like
    RequestDispatcher rd = getServletContext().getRequestDispatcher("/abc.asp");
    rd.forward(request, response)
    In this case it takes me to the asp page, but gives some ClassNotFoundException - images.
    I do not understand what class it is looking for and where to get that?
    So Why am i not able to call an ASP from Servlet, Any clue??

    What are you trying to accomplish? A redirect is one of the only ways to successfully go from a Servlet to an ASP. For example:response.sendRedirect("http://server:9090/abc.asp?name=value");This is mainly because when you forward, your actually sending the request and response objects under the current servlet context to be processed by another JSP/servlet in the same (sometimes cross) context.
    When interacting with ASP's your actually communicating between web containers (one which is Java based the other VB based).
    When you use:RequestDispatcher rd = getServletContext().getRequestDispatcher("http://localhost:8080/abc.asp");
    rd.forward(request, response) Your telling the servlet to send it's contents outside the web container where they cannot exist as such (even though you are pointing to your own JSP server, it's the "http://" that makes it assume your trying to get out).
    Using: RequestDispatcher rd = getServletContext().getRequestDispatcher("/abc.asp");
    rd.forward(request, response) is fine but what is processing your asp in your Java Web Server?
    The best way to mix JSP/Servlets with ASP (in my opinion others may debate it if they please) is using messaging like XML. Trying to share sessions between ASP and Java is quite messy and to much effort for a 1 to 1 communication option.
    Back to an earlier question, what is processing your asp files in the Java web server? If you have something processing them (like ChilliSoft) then check the docs to see if it supports session sharing between JSP/Servlet - ASP.

    This is very simple maybe you don't have servlet experience.
    Simply you create a servlet and put your client main method in another one (not static method) + importing jar of your client and other associated jar files in WEB_INF\lib folder of servlet.
    check for helloworld servlet then you can implement servlet for your client.

    Error: Endpoint {http://com.susan/SusanWS}SusanWebServiceEndpointPort does not contain operation meta data for: LoginWebService
    ...the WS is up and running (of this I'm sure...cause I also tested it with soapui...and it works..)
    The webservice is running on a local jboss (to which i can successfully connect, and see the wsdl...).
    the servlet is running on a local tomcat (which is also ok...).
    I'm trying to call the WS like this:
    Service service = new Service();
    Call call = (Call)service.createCall();
    call.setTargetEndpointAddress( new URL( wsEndpoint ) ); //http://localhost:8080/webservices/SusanWS (the same I used in soapui...so it should be right)
    call.setOperationName( "LoginWebService"); //name of the method i want to use...
    call.addParameter( "appCode", Constants.XSD_STRING, ParameterMode.IN );
    call.addParameter( "login", Constants.XSD_STRING, ParameterMode.IN );
    call.addParameter( "passwd", Constants.XSD_STRING, ParameterMode.IN );
    //            call.setReturnType( Constants.XSD_INT ); //left this out...should be the cause...
    Object retval = call.invoke( new String[] { appCode, login, passwd} ); //appCode,login,passwd contain the strings i want to  forward as input.if I try to run it I get(in the jboss log...):
    15:41:55,594 ERROR [SOAPFaultExceptionHelper] SOAP request exception

  • Invoking BPEL process from Java servlet with org.w3c.dom.Element as payload

    Hello,
    I'm trying to initiate a BPEL process from my servlet running under Tomcat. When I create the NormalizedMessage passing the XML as a String everything works fine. But if I use an org.w3c.domElement the BPEL server doesn't react at all (even on DEBUG log level there are no outputs).
    This works:
    NormalizedMessage message = new NormalizedMessage();
    message.addPart("payload", "<foo></foo>");
    This doesn't work:
    org.w3c.dom.Element elem;
    oracle.xml.parser.v2.XMLDocument xmlDocument;
    NormalizedMessage message = new NormalizedMessage();
    Element elem = xmlDocument.createElement("foo");
    message.addPart("payload", elem);
    Is there a known problem with payloads using Element or did I get something completely wrong? Thanks in advance,
    Hans.

  • 'Class Cast Exception' while invoking a EJB from a Servlet

              Hi,
              I am working on J2EE applications.I am using Webgain studio and weblogic server.I
              got a problem while invoking EJB from the servlet.
              While calling an EJB from the servlet, it is giving that "Class Cast Exception".This
              is because, the remote home reference is not able to type casted to the"Home Interface"
              of the EJB, even if I type casted explicitly. It is creating the context and able
              to identify the EJB with the JNDI name.
              Could please help me in solving this problem.I am pasting the code here.
              Thanks in advance,
              Dharma
              public void doGet(HttpServletRequest req, HttpServletResponse resp)
                   throws ServletException, IOException
                        resp.setContentType("text/html");
                        PrintWriter out = new PrintWriter(resp.getOutputStream());
              try
              Context context=getInitialContext();
              Object reference=context.lookup("ArlProjContractorAppletSession");
              ArlProjContractorAppletSessionHome home=(ArlProjContractorAppletSessionHome)PortableRemoteObject.narrow(reference,ArlProjContractorAppletSessionHome.class);
              //Exception is occuring in the above statement. It is unable
              //to cast to the home interface
                        ArlProjContractorAppletSession the_ejb=null;
              try
              the_ejb=home.create();
              System.out.println("the_ejb = " + the_ejb.toString());
              catch(Exception e)
              e.printStackTrace();
              catch(Exception e)
              e.printStackTrace();
                        // to do: code goes here.
                        out.println("<HTML>");
                        out.println("<HEAD><TITLE>Contractor TimeTracker</TITLE></HEAD>");
                        out.println("<BODY>");

                        out.println("</BODY>");
                        out.println("</HTML>");
                        out.close();

              I came across this kind of problem once. My problem went away after I upgraded
              from 5.1 SP6 to 5.1 SP8.

  • Unable to View PDF in Browser from a Servlet.

    Hi,
    I am facing a problem while trying to dynamically generate PDF from a Servlet and display it in the browser(IE 6.0 sp2)
    The scenario is as follows:
    i have a link which on clicking (using javascript) moves to a Servlet(say Dispatcher Servlet).This servlet forwards the control to another Servlet(say PDF Renderer Servlet) which generates the PDF and tries to display the results to the browser.
    The PDF does get generated.
    However in the pop-up i get a alert message to either open or save the PDF.But when i try to do so the message i get is that IE failed to communicate with the server.
    The code i am using to display the PDF is as follows
    ByteArrayOutputStream outfile = pdfTransformer.transform(xmlString,container);
    byte[] content = outfile.toByteArray();
    response.setContentType("application/pdf");
    response.setContentLength(content.length);
    response.setHeader("Content-Disposition", "inline; filename=\"" + pdfName + "\"");
    ServletOutputStream out= response.getOutputStream();
    out.write(content);
    out.flush();
    out.close();
    Any suggestions would be a great help.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    I have the same code as Viv above and I am generating pdf using fdf file format. the code works upto the point where it generates pdf. I am not setting the header to open the file in the same browser or new window:
    (not in my code)
    response.setHeader("Content-Disposition", "inline; filename=\"" + pdfName + "\"");it was working fine last week and now it starts to give a pop up box with only one option of saving the pdf file, there is no option to open it. when I save it the data in the file is lost, its just a fblank form. I am using IE 6.0.2900
    any suggestions?
    Ali

  • How to invoke a OSB Proxy Service from a Servlet??

    Hi!!
    I'm a begginer in OSB, and right now I have a OSB configuration in production mode. So, using the console test it's very easy to test (doh) my configuration. But now, I have to make a stress test and after read a lot of documentation I did'nt found the way to do that. So I'm trying to do it by using a Servlet, a doPost method in especific, but after a lot of time I can't invoke the proxy service.
    What is the right way to use a proxy service in production mode??
    How can I call it from my servlet??
    How can I send an xml (or any other object, file, text...) as a Request??
    Help please, thank you...
    Edited by: user12116998 on 18-mar-2010 12:40

    If you have your proxy service published as http/soap, then I recommend you to use SoapUI to test it. It can help you with stress test too.
