    I can successfully download the files and finished the installation process from the autoupdate center. But when I restarted Forte, I saw an error " cannot load servlet name: jsp " and there is no new modules installed. Am I missing something?

    Actually, it's a problem with the glibc library. After reading the release note, I found the solution.

  • Problems with tomcat 4.0.1

    hello,
    ive written some servlets using forte 3.0 with tomcat 3.2.
    everything works fine as long as I dont run the servlets with tomcat 4.0.1.
    i use the request dispatcher / forward method - which dosnt work reliable.
    its a list on which the user has to select one topic. the strange thing about it is that it works when you choose "back" after the error (dispatcher = null) has occured and select a different topic on that list - only the first choice makes en error.
    running on tomcat 3.2 with forte it works fine. but i get the following message in the tomcat output window:
    java.util.MissingResourceException: Can't find resource for bundle java.util.PropertyResourceBundle, key dispatcher.forwardException
    and
    2002-01-13 11:40:05 - Ctx( /lg002234 ): Exception in: R( /lg002234 + /eingaben + null) - javax.servlet.ServletException: cannot find message associated with key : dispatcher.forwardException
    can somebody help?
    is use the dispatcher three times in that post-method - ist that a problem?

    ...sorry
    its not a problem with the requestdispatcher,
    problem is, that with tomcat 4.0.1 a parameter
    sometimes gets lost - but not with tomcat 3.2
    critical code is:
    String tierartAuswahl = request.getParameter("tierartAuswahl");
    is that a known bug of tomcat 4.0.1??

  • Performance testing of servlets / beans / jsp ?

    Hi. I'd like to performance test my applications, anyone have a clue on what software to use?
    I use Fort for Java CE 3 as the IDE and TomCat 3.23 as the servlet / jsp container.
    Hopefully there are some opensource tools to use for this?
    Regards,
    Chris

    You can precompile JSP's, this removes the small hickup when they are requested the first time (making the server translate and compile them). Check the documentation of your specific web/application server on how to do this.
    Otherwise:
    - buy better hardware
    - use a better application server
    - make sure your network is properly configured (so packets don't get routed around the network four times before they reach their destination for example)
    - make sure your program logic doesn't create bottlenecks such as
    unnecessary HTTP requests, redundant loops, etc.
    - optimize your database access, use connection pooling
    - optimize your database queries. Create indexes, make sure the SQL queries themselves aren't doing unnecessary trips around the database, etc.

  • RE: (forte-users) RE: Forte 3 vs Java --Productivity

    I think you should compare language to language, product to product
    and standard to standard. J2EE is a standard, like CORBA. It's not
    a product and it's not a language. J2EE is a standard, based on the
    language Java, but the same standard can be used in the context
    of Smalltalk, Cobol, Basic or TOOL as well. We have yet to see any
    development tool that actually supports full J2EE. And how many
    ORB's out there are really 100% CORBA 2.0 complient and offer
    full interoperability through IIOP with other CORBA 2.0 complient
    products?
    The title of this entire thread is wrong. It's not Forte vs. Java, but
    TOOL vs. Java or Forte vs. any Java-based ADE.
    EJB, J2EE and CORBA are open standards, intended to facilitate
    building large, component based applications. But they're only
    standards, they're not usable products. Forte is a usable product.
    It is a (propriaty) ORB, if offers lots of advanced component based
    features and it uses a propriaty OO language called TOOL. Forte
    was doing all this way before the world was debating CORBA, then
    Java, then EJB and now J2EE.
    Sure, when you really look at it, these standards are more complete
    and include more design patterns than the way Forte solved the
    problem, but the situation is still that, despite all those wonderfull
    standards, Forte is still the product with the most advanced capa-
    bilities that actually delivers.
    The challenge to Forte is to incorporate those standards within their
    own product. Are they going to build 2 products, one TOOL-based
    and one Java-based, or are they going to integrate TOOL and Java,
    or are they going to drop TOOL? Are they going to support J2EE
    and will they keep offering those wonderfull distributed features that
    are currently in Forte and are not part of J2EE? Will they switch
    completely to JDBC or will they integrate DBSessions with JDBC?
    Will their ORB functionality remain closed or will the Forte environ-
    ment become a full CORBA 2.0 complient environment? Will they
    keep supporting DCOM? Will they allow JavaBeans, EJB, Forte
    service objects, OLE-objects, Servlets and Active-X components
    to co-exist or will that remain SF? Are they going to support Swing?
    Are they going to include an HTML-Browser widget? Are they going
    to, natively, support JavaScript? What about VB-script? What
    about Perl-script? What about TOOL-script??? Will they include
    an object-based reporting tool, so you don't have to circumvent
    the application and report against the relational database? Will
    this reporting tool be Java-based, TOOL-based, both, EJB-based,
    CORBA-based or whatever? Will they support JPEG and PNG as
    well as BMP and GIF? Will they allow you to store these images in
    the repository? Will they include a full-featured web-publisher that
    supports HTML and XML as well as seemlessly integrate with Forte
    applications? Will they allow you to deploy your (static) web-pages
    on a web-server using E-console?

  • Forte for JAVA: Problems with break points

    Dear all,
    I have the following problem:
    When setting breaks point within the code of my web application (servlets and JSP) the debugger does not seem to be able to find them and to stop where I would it to :o(
    When approching a portion of code that I know have a break point, I get the following message in the debugger window->
    Connecting to localhost.localdomain:11555
    Connection established
    Breakpoint reached at line ? in class org.corproware.strutsrelated.listener.DBPoolListener by thread main.
    Note the interrogation mark (?) instead of a valid line number.
    It looks like I have the same poroblem with a simple java "HelloWorld"
    Is their something I don't get or is it a known problem?
    Many thanks!

    Sorry mate, wrong forum. You shoud try Sun ONE Studio Forum isntead of this one. It is for UDS (Formerly known as Forte)

  • Can servlets be developed locally using IE without dialing out?

    beyond the user changing their settings is their something I can do?

    Yes, but you need a servlet runner such as tomcat, java web server, jwsdk etc,etc. You are always able to call your own loopback (localhost) or your own computer name (IP) locally, without needing to be connected to the internet. But you will need one of the servlet runners (servers) mentioned above. Go get forte, it comes with tomcat all configured for you.

  • Java servlets and Tomcat  server

    Hi friends
    i am using Sun One forte Community edition . i am trying to make a hello world servlet .
    there are 2 Files one is Index.html , HelloWorld.java (Servlet)
    I call this servlet from the index.html file.
    evertime i call it it gives me and error of Apache tomcat file not found .The tomcat server is inbuilt with the Sun One studio.
    the directory structure is
    -----HOME
    -------WEB_FOLDER
    ----------Index.html
    ----------WEB-INF
    -------------CLASSES
    -----------------myServlet (package)
    ---------------------HelloWorld.java
    -------------LIB
    The problem is I am not getting how to write the path of servlet in index.html to call the helloWorld servlet.

    Make this entry in your server.xml file located in tomcat_dir\conf.
    <Context path="/abc"
         docBase="webapps/abc"
         crossContext="true"
         debug="0"
         reloadable="true"
         trusted="false">
    </Context>
    Suppose i want to develop my servlets in another folder Let it be "XYZ".Then your package statement must be, 'package xyz;'. Place all your servlets in webapps/abc/WEB_INF/classes/xyz dir.
    Place all your Jsp(s) and Htmls in webapps/abc/pqrs dir.
    Now they all come under one context 'abc'.

  • Forte 4j mounting

    I have a filesytem mounted at C:\Program Files\Apache Tomcat 4.0\webapps\ROOT\WEB-INF\Classes
    and then in Classes I have my package com.ora...ext...
    When I compile, classes get turned into Root.com.ora....ect.
    Is this something that is designed. Can't I compile classes there.
    Even if I move it to c:\com.... it isn't compiling right. Is some bug?
    C:\Program Files\Apache Tomcat 4.0\webapps\ROOT\com\ora\jsp\sql\Value.class
    class file contains wrong class: ROOT.com.ora.jsp.sql.Value
    Please remove or make sure it appears in the correct subdirectory of the classpath.
    import com.ora.jsp.sql.Value;

    nevermind
    the forte (studioOne) was setting the compiler to external even though I had it set to set jsp and servlets to internal or fast javac.
    Once I manually changed and compiled each file it was ok
    Sun tools (StudioOne -- forte) are really great though try them if you aren't using them now.

  • Forte form editor wont work, missing *.form file

    Hi,
    I have a .java GUI file (subclass of a subclass of JDialog) that was generated with Forte, but the .form file that the form editor needs wasnt checked into CVS. So now I cant open the form editor in Forte (sun one). Is there a way to auto generate a new one based on the *.java code?
    Thanks,
    Chris
    ps. I know this isnt a forte board, I coudlnt find the forte board.
    pps. Sorry if this has been asked before, I searched for the answer and couldnt find one...
    ppps. I tried a blank file, and I tried a minimal XML document, neither worked (the *.form file is XML).

    Thanks for the suggestion!
    I searched their list, and found this post:
    Essentially it is currently impossible, and the GUI must be recreated. dote!
    http://www.netbeans.org/servlets/ReadMsg?msgId=87985&listName=nbusers
    Richard,
    currently it is not possible to generate .form file from java code - because
    form editor is not "two-way" (that is why .form XML files are used to store
    GUI information). However two-way editing is planned for the future - see
    our proposal:
    http://www.netbeans.org/www-nbusers/msg03322.html.
    There was also a related discussion some time before (about "reverse
    endineering"):
    http://www.netbeans.org/www-nbusers/msg01590.html.
    As for converting forms from old NetBeans X2: direct serialization was used
    for saving forms sooner, which is not suitable for longer persistence -
    because e.g. serialized Swing components might not be compatible between JDK
    versions. (That's why we moved to more general XML storing time ago.) So -
    to import older forms you should use at least the same JDK version you used
    with old X2. I would also recommend you to import it using Forte 2.0, which
    could be more "polite" to old form formats (is a bit older than NetBeans
    3.1). Once you save form to XML .form file, you can use it in newest JDK and
    NetBeans.
    Hope this somehow helps,
    Tomas Pavek

  • JSP called database Bean - works in forte ide- not outside ide

    I am obtaining my Connection object from a Java bean so that I can change database connections (like development to production) by just changing the bean out. Inside forte for java 3.0 with its built in tomcat, it works fine. I have the same version of tomcat that I fire up outside of the ide. I used the ide to create a WAR file and I expand it under webapps so the external tomcat can see it. The initial jsp page works fine (so tomcat can see it fine).
    Now when I click a button that performs a form method=get action=\"operation.jsp\"> ... , the operation.jsp executes the following code:
    <jsp:useBean id="db" scope="request" class="dbConnectBean" />
    <%
    Connection adxcon = db.getDbConnection();
    Statement adxstmt = adxcon.createStatement(ResultSet.TYPE_SCROLL_SENSITIVE,ResultSet.CONCUR_UPDATABLE);
    ... %>
    The dbConnectBean code looks like:
    public class dbConnectBean extends Object implements java.io.Serializable {
    public class dbConnectBean extends Object implements java.io.Serializable {
    private PropertyChangeSupport propertySupport;
    private Connection dbConnection;
    public dbConnectBean() {
    propertySupport = new PropertyChangeSupport ( this );
    public Connection getDbConnection() {
    setDbConnection();
    return dbConnection;
    public void setDbConnection() {
    this.dbConnection = dbConnection;
    try {
    Class.forName("org.gjt.mm.mysql.Driver");
    catch (Exception e) {
    System.out.println("Can't load JDBC Driver");
    return;
    try {
    dbConnection = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/cs_dev?user=foo&password=bar");
    catch (Exception e) {
    System.out.println("Can't get connected: " + e.getMessage());
    return;
    return;
    Outside of the ide, when I click to perform the form action above, I get:

    Error 500 signifies the following;
    "500 (Internal Server Error)
    500 (SC_INTERNAL_SERVER_ERROR) is the generic 'server is confused' status code. It often results from CGI programs or (Heaven forbid!) servlets that crash or return improperly fromatted headers."
    Check your headers.
    I wouls suggest that you do not Run your Servlets and JSPs through the Forte IDE. Download and install Tomcat 4 on your desktop (if you havent already) and test them there. You only need to mount the directories for the particular web app.
    You can use this guide on how to install and setup your Tomcat 4 and your development environment. http://www.moreservlets.com/Using-Tomcat-4.html
    Hope this helps

    else
    aWordApplication = new();
    aTasks = new();
    aWordApplication.CreateUsingProgID( 'word.application'
    aWordApplication.visible = TRUE;
    aWordApplication.Activate();
    aTasks is an attribute of type Tasks on our window & aWordApplication is
    an attribute of type _Application on our window. This code will work if
    there already is an instance of Word that was started from a Forte
    applicaiton. It doesn't recognize a instance of Word that was started
    outside of a Forte app. Hope this helps!!

    Subject: Ole Automation with forte.
    Good Day forte users,
    I'm trying to invoke MSWord from a forte application.
    I set the objectreference using CreateUsingProgId(This is the only way
    that I could get it to work).
    The problem is when using CreateUsingProgId, forte will create another
    instance of Word. Is there a way to know if the instance already
    exists
    and retrieve the objectreference of that instance?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi Aurang
    You can call almost all methods using OLE. What is required is to know how to interpret a script to ABAP OLE call. This is explained in the tutorial<a href="https://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/c1d54348-0601-0010-3e98-bd2a2dcd9e6c">"An Easy Reference For OLE Automation"</a>

  • Servlet crashes TOMCAT

    I am experimenting with buffered images in a servlet. This "Hello World" servlet crashes TOMCAT.
    java version "1.4.1"
    Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.1)
    Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.1, mixed mode)
    JAVA_OPTS '-Xmx512m -Djava.awt.headless=true'
    ----servlet begins----
    import javax.servlet.*;
    import javax.servlet.http.*;
    import java.io.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.image.*;
    import Acme.JPM.Encoders.GifEncoder;
    public class MijnPollServlet extends HttpServlet
    public void doGet(HttpServletRequest req, HttpServletResponse res)
    throws ServletException, IOException
    doPost(req,res);
    public void doPost(HttpServletRequest req, HttpServletResponse res)
    throws ServletException, IOException
    BufferedImage image=
    new BufferedImage(100,100, BufferedImage.TYPE_INT_RGB);
    Graphics2D g2 = image.createGraphics();
    g2.setColor(Color.blue);
    g2.fillRect(25,25,50,50);
    g2.drawString("Hello World!", 10, 10);
    ServletOutputStream out = res.getOutputStream(); // binary output!
    res.setContentType("image/gif");
    GifEncoder encoder = new GifEncoder(image, out);
    encoder.encode();
    ----servlet ends----
    If I run the servlet with the "g2.drawString("Hello World!", 10, 10);"
    commented out there is no problem.
    Is there something I am missing here?
    Thank you,
    -William

    The whole Tomcat crashes, and no exception
    displayed.
    Do I have to write the log file, or it's kept by
    Tomcat itself?yes, tomcat writes a log file, you find it in the tomcat dir. but it's just very highlevel. Having a look in it could help.
    Is there a way to write a log file by myself?sure. you could get the log file from tomcat by getting it from the ServletContext:
    ServletContext = getServletContext();
    ServletContext.log("text to log");
    When I view the output window in Forte, it doesn't
    even write that Tomcat crashed.
    I use Tomcat that is installed with the last version
    of Forte(Sun 1 Studio, update 1), I guess it's the
    last version of Tomcat also.No. The lastest is 4.1.12 and i guess it's 4.0.4 with forte.
    Get Tomcat standalone from jakarta.apache.org and try to run your servlet with the standalone tomcat. this could help since i also expirenced problems sometimes with the forte-integrated tomcat.

    I seems that it can't compile my jsp to servlet
    THX

    ive ran into many problems with compiling in forte. I just compile everything from the command line now, lets me know exactly what switches i want, and it works! ive never seen an error like that in forte though, i would just recommend compiling it from the command line with "javac"...
