Session Management / Browser WindowID

Hi, here is my problem:
is it possible to gernate a session for each Browser-Window. I want to show different Content in BrowserWindows but i only can create one session. WinNT/98/XP handles a new BrowserWindow not as a seperate Process/Task. So the WebServer does not know which Window the request comes from.
My actual solution is, that i create a different WinID via JavaScript for each Window and send it to the WebServer. I store the WinID in the Session so that the application knows, which WinID belongs to a BrowserWindow (and its Content).
Is it possible to do this with no javascript, for example URL-rewriting etc....????
thx

I already use the HTTPSession object to save data from the application in a session. The problem is that i get the the IP of the client (in Request Header Fields), but i dont get a unique WindowID of the ClientWindow who send a request.
I can get the Client IP, the User-Agent, the Proxy-Authorization . . . . all out of the Request Header Fields, but not the Window. :-(

  • Session management problems with SSO

    Hi all-
    I've been getting an Apex app tied to SSO as a partner app (per http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/howtos/sso_partner_app.html). So far, it sort of works. If I go to my apex app, it redirects me to SSO, where I authenticate and end up back in the apex app. Great. Here are two problems I've run into:
    1. If I am already authenticated to SSO, and I go to my apex app (url like: http://host/pls/apex/f?p=101:1), my browser goes into an infinite redirect (url like: http://host/pls/apex/f?p=101:1:::::FSP_AFTER_LOGIN_URL:\f? p=101|1|||||FSP_AFTER_LOGIN_URL|\f?p=101|1|||||FSP_AFTER_LOGIN_URL|\f? p=101|1|||||FSP_AFTER_LOGIN_URL|\f?p=101|1|||||FSP_AFTER_LOGIN_URL|\f? p=101|1|||||FSP_AFTER_LOGIN_URL|\f?p=101|1|||||FSP_AFTER_LOGIN_URL|\f? p=101|1|||||FSP_AFTER_LOGIN_URL|\f?p=101|1|||||FSP_AFTER_LOGIN_URL|\f? p=101|1|||||FSP_AFTER_LOGIN_URL|\f?p=101|1|||||FSP_AFTER_LOGIN_URL|\f? p=101|1|||||FSP_AFTER_LOGIN_URL|\f?p=101|1|||||FSP_AFTER_LOGIN_URL|\f? p=101|1|||||FSP_AFTER_LOGIN_URL|\f?p=101|1|||||FSP_AFTER_LOGIN_URL|\f? p=101|1|||||FSP_AFTER_LOGIN_URL|\f?p=101|1|||||FSP_AFTER_LOGIN_URL|\f? p=101|1|||||FSP_AFTER_LOGIN_URL|\f?p=101|1|||||FSP_AFTER_LOGIN_URL|\f? p=101|1|\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\). To resolve, I have to clear cookies.
    2. If I am using my apex app, then log out of SSO (in another browser window), I can still click around in my apex app (i.e., apex thinks I'm still authenticated).
    Anyone have any thoughts? I'm wondering if I need to do something in page session management (under authentication schemes) to fix #2, but I have no clue about #1.
    Thanks
    Rob

    Hi Scott-
    Thanks for the info on #2 - I'll work on that after I get #1 sorted out, since it's the more dire problem. Here's some more info:
    Apex version = 3.0.1.00.08
    SSO SDK = ssosdk902.zip
    I set it up as "My Application as Partner App." I used "MY_PARTNER_NAME" as SSO Partner Application Name. In the list of SSO Partner Apps on the SSO Admin page, my partner app name is also MY_PARTNER_NAME. It gives the following info:
    Login URL:      https://sso_host/pls/orasso/orasso.wwsso_app_admin.ls_login
    Single Sign-Off URL:      https://sso_host/pls/orasso/orasso.wwsso_app_admin.ls_logout
    Home URL: http://apex_host/pls/apex
    Success URL: http://apex_host/pls/apex/RBLICK.YOUR_PACKAGE.PROCESS_SUCCESS
    Logout URL: http://apex_host/pls/apex
    RBLICK is the schema owning the apex app. In there, I created a package called YOUR_PACKAGE:
    create package YOUR_PACKAGE as
    procedure process_success(urlc in varchar2);
    end YOUR_PACKAGE;
    CREATE PACKAGE BODY YOUR_PACKAGE AS
    procedure process_success(urlc in varchar2) as
    begin
    wwv_flow_custom_auth_sso.process_success(
    urlc=>urlc,
    p_partner_app_name=>'MY_PARTNER_NAME');
    end process_success;
    END YOUR_PACKAGE;
    Anything look obviously wrong to you?
    Thanks!

  • Hello, I have a big problem with Firefox: Session Manager & Undo Closed Tab addons are not working, Sync Is not working. History is working. How to fix this?

    Firefox remembers history but doesn't remember closed tabs, sessions.
    It happened after updating Fox to v. 19.0.2 on one computer.
    In Firefox Options is set Use Custom Settings For History, everything is checked except Always Use Private Browsing Mode. So I am not in private browsing.
    When I press on Undo Closed Button nothing happens & in session manager Save Session Button is greyed out. I've tried installing other add-ons that can remember tabs. tried to disable/reinstall these 2 add-ons. Did't help. On my 2nd computer I have same add-ons, same settings and they are working normally. on 3rd computer undo closed tabs works also. How to fix this? I decided to ask before doing Firefox Reset...
    Sync is a separate problem. It works, but quite often it logs me out of Sync account. Then I can log in only using long recovery key and password (choosing option I don't have device with me because it does not accept keys for pairing device.)
    Thanks for reading.

    I have exactly the same settings in Options (in both computers)
    for history, these 2 add-ons and all other stuff in Options. The only difference is that on 1 pc sessions can be saved and closed tabs can be reopened, on other main pc they stopped to work. + no any other add-on that does similar things works on this pc.
    It is also interesting that I can reopen closed visited sites from History Panel, but not by pressing the Button. For now I only manually bookmark links to a temporary folder.
    Recently (some 2 month ago) I pressed x and Firefox closed all tabs without saving them without displaying save & quit pop up.
    so I changed 4 settings in about.config
    browser.tabs.warn on close true
    browser.warn on quit true
    browser.warn on restart true
    browser.show.quit warning true
    but the problem with sessions appeared only 1 week ago.
    So I guess the problem is not with the History settings or other settings. Seems that something responsible for button or for storing info about tabs/sessions got corrupted. :(

  • Issue in session management

    Hi All,
    I have a problem regarding java session management.
    i have created one web application in which i want if user login from one browser instance and opens another instance of same browser and logs in from that then user should be logged out from previous instance. I am using Mozzila 5.0.
    Here is what i am doing while creating session in LoginServlet.java
    session = request.getSession(false); //return session if already exists
    System.out.println("Session object: "+session);
    if(session != null)
    System.out.println("Session ID Old: "+session.getId());
    session.invalidate(); //invalidate the session if already exists
    session = request.getSession(true); //Create new session
    System.out.println("Session ID New: "+session.getId());
    Second and third System.out.println() statements giving the same session id.
    This way only the information stored in session when user was logged in from first instance of browser is replaced with the new information stored when the user logged in from second instance of browser, but the user is not logged out from the first browser instance.
    Please help me out how i can log the user out from first instance if he logs in from second instance.
    Thanks in advance...

    Since user in logging again from the same machine so i think invalidating the previous session won't work.
    Suppose user opens first instance of the mozilla browser and login as say 'ashok' whose role is normal user now he opens another instance of mozilla by clicking on executable and login as 'mitch' whose role is admin then after successful login of 'mitch' on first window mitch's menus items are getting displayed instead of ashok's.
    What i am doing is,
    While creating new session on login i first check is any existing session available in above case its true
    session = request.getSession(false); //return session if already exists
    System.out.println("Session object: "+session);
    if(session != null)
    System.out.println("Session ID Old: "+session.getId());
    session.invalidate(); //invalidate the session if already exists
    session = request.getSession(true); //Create new session
    System.out.println("Session ID New: "+session.getId());
    so control will go inside the if block, here i first invalidate the existing session (this is not destroying the session but only unbinding the information that was stored in the session) and create new session (this is returning the same session which was already exists) and save mitch's information. Since the previous instance was using the same session that will now get the mitch's information so now both instances will show the mitch's information.
    I am not getting any way to destroy the existing session so next time new session id will get generated.

  • Firefox 5 on Win7: All my plugin buttons have gone from the toolbar. They are not in the customise pane. Session manager offers the correct sessions but opens with last session instead. I've re-installed % and reset toolbars. Help!

    Win 7
    Firefox 5
    Problem with high memory use.
    restarted
    Plugin buttons gone from toolbar/
    Missing plugins still show in plugin manager but buttons missing from toolbar add buttons pane.
    Tried reset toolbars - no difference.
    Tried re-instal of Firefox 5 - no difference except:
    Session manager offers correct session on startup but starts with last session

    In case you are using "Clear history when Firefox closes":
    *do not clear the Browsing History
    *Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history": [X] "Clear history when Firefox closes" > Settings
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/remove-browsing-search-and-download-history
    Note that clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, passwords, and other website specific data.
    You can check for problems with the sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak files in the Firefox profile folder that store session data.
    *Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Multiple_profile_files_created
    Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost and you will have to recreate them (make a note or bookmark them if possible).

  • Database session management in APEX

    How is the database session managed in APEX? I found that sometimes a database session can last from page to pages in an APEX application, but sometimes every page starts a new database session.
    Is there a way to control the database session in APEX?
    Thanks,
    -Fengting

    Since HTTP is a stateless and connectionless protocol, you are not guaranteed to get the same database session between pages. APEX maintains the session state implicitly. Each session is assigned a unique identifier with APEX. The APEX engine uses the session ID to store and retrieve the applications working set of data or session state before and after each page view.
    The session information persists in the database until purged. Therefore, as long as the client's session cookie has not expired, a user can continue running the application long after having first launched it. This is also what allows a user to run multiple instances of an application simultaneously in different browser sessions.
    That being said, I think the answer to your question is that it is not necessarily going to be the same database session (but could be), nor can you control it. You should use session state.

  • Session management for a web service

    I am building a web service where the user will need to login and the application will need to maintain a persistent session. I am using Apache Axis2 for client/server communication via SOAP/XML. What would the simplest and most common way of doing this? I know I could implement session management from scratch similarly to how a browser does it, using cookies, but I'd rather use standard Java libraries for this. Am I correct in assuming that even though I'm using Axis2, the solution doesn't really have anything to do with Axis2 since Axis2 is basically just a way for the client/server to send messages to each other?
    I've read a lot of information online about this, but there's so much information that it's hard to know where to start. Basically I'm just looking for someone to point me in the right direction on what classes to use and so on. I just need a simple username password authentication and session management system for a web service.

  • Session management in JAX-RCP with JWSDP 1.0_01

    Hi all,
    How can I access to the HTTP Session of the TOMCAT which run the Web Services engine?
    Browsing by the API I've found the method getHttpSession() in the interface javax.xmlrpc.server.ServletEndpointContext.
    How can get an instance which implements this interface?
    Regards,
    Csar.

    An old thread but I have a question re session management and web services.
    The documentation for ServletEndpointContext says getHttpSession returns null if there is no HTTP session currently active and associated with the service endpoint. It further says the endpoint class should not rely on the HTTP session always being there.
    I need to ensure a session is active after a user successfully logs in. Other than spending alot of time implementing session management myself its the only way to tell whether the service requestor is allowed to use the service. Is the session not guaranteed to be active to take account of things like session timeout? Under normal circumstances where the user is sufficiently active to prevent timeout is it reasonable to assume the session will be there?

  • Session management thru SOAP services

              Hi I am trying to deploy our application in a clsutered environment. Previsouly
              I had some problems with http session replication. That problems were solved but
              now I have another problem.
              Our application has multiple clients, some are browser based and some are swing
              based that use our SOAP services.
              all browser based clients use httpsession for session management, since weblogic
              replicates the httpsession, we have no problem clustering http webapps. But SOAP
              services has no access to httpsession.
              We have implemented our own session management (we cache the app specific session
              objects) so that SOAP services works fine (SOAP services doesn't have access to
              httpsession, so we could not use httpsession for session management). Each method
              in our soap services takes a sessionid and we get the session objects (not http
              session objects but our app specific session objects) based on the sessionid.
              But now that our application is clustered, the session cache mechanism doesn't
              work since its not replicated thru out the clusters.
              I thought I could use stateful session beans to cache the sessions, but how do
              I cache the SFSB thru out the session w/o sending any references to the SFSB to
              the client. I know I can send the Handle reference to the client but We cannot
              change the SOAP API now. The only information client has is the session id.
              My question is: How do I use SFSB w/o changing my soap services method paramaters.
              My SOAP method looks like methodName(String sessionid, ..............)
              I could use a clustered cache but we can't buy anything in the current situation.
              Any help would be appreciated.

    Well, does the DSM log have any details? (see [Note 529924|https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/529924] on how to view the logs)
    My guess is that you are using different protocols between the dispatcher and a backend system: they both have to use HTTP or both use HTTPS (as described in the same note). That would also explain why the URL for the direct connection to the portal  doesn't present the error, if that URL has the same protocol as the backend.

  • I deleted my saved sessions in session manager in error. Can I recover these in any way?

    As above

    *http://sessionmanager.mozdev.org/documentation.html
    There is an option to have Session Manager automatically back up your current browsing session at browser shutdown, ask you if you want to save or never save. By default it backs up the ten previous browsing sessions and crashes (deleting older ones). This can be changed in the Startup and Shutdown options on the General Options page. Old sessions are only removed on browser shutdown. Restarting or recovering from a crash will not remove old sessions. Warning, the backup is made when the browser actually shut downs, so if you close the browser by "X"ing out of all the windows, only the last window will be saved. If you want to save the last session, use the File->Exit command or better yet manually save it or use the autosave feature.

  • I have a problem with session manager session files because of the invalid json storage data submited by firefox

    Hi, i have problem with session manager's session files. The problem is: the submitted storage data from firefox which is put between "storage":{ and its matching closing brace } But in some of my session files there is non equal { and } under storage's braces. I need to get storage data but in my case it is very hard to do. My question is there any char put before or after { and } like /{ or \{ to avoid confusion? If there is not such thing, i think there could be different solution but i am not sure: i look couple of my session files; after "storage":{...} there is ,_"formDataSaved" so i can get storage data in this example ... by looking between "storage":{ and ,"_formDataSaved" easily. Is there every time ,"_formDataSaved" after "storage":{ ?  Thank you.

    Well, it seems waiting is not my strong suit..! I renamed a javascript file called recovery to sessionstore. This file was in the folder sessionstore-backups I had copied from mozilla 3 days ago, when my tabs were still in place. I replaced the sessionstore in mozilla's default folder with the renamed file and then started mozilla. And the tabs reappeared as they were 3 days ago!
    So there goes the tab problem. But again when I started mozilla the window saying "a script has stopped responding" appeared, this time the script being: chrome//browser/contenttabbrowser.xml2542
    If someone knows how to fix this and make firefox launch normally, please reply! Thank you

  • Trouble with Session Management

    I am trying to assess how many people I lose on my site
    because they dont have cookies enabled. when I disable cookies in a
    browser and <cfoutput> a urltoken, it prints out a new value
    every time I refresh the page, as expected. But when I try to log
    the CFID when people come to my home page so that I may pass it
    around through the site, I get some "element CFID undefined in
    session" errors

    thanks for the help. I thought Id tell you more about what I
    am doing and see if you have comments - we use google to market our
    company so clicks are costing us big bucks. currently, our sites
    rely on session management to operate, so I realize that folks
    having cookies off is really hurting us. All the references I can
    find tote passing the session.URLToken around the site to make it
    cookie independent. I havent done this yet, first im trying to get
    a handle on how many people have cookies off (like you are), and
    where people are coming from to see if we are having click fraud
    (which we are very suspicious of).
    Is this what you would do (passing the URLToken around)? Any
    other comments you have would be very much appreciated.

  • LCDS Session Management using an Extension Panel

    We have an app that executes in an extension panel(InDesign) using both amf and rtmp calls.  The lcds server then makes rpc calls to an app which returns the data to InDesign.  How do you manage the sessions so that each individual user gets their own session per instance of the app.  All of the examples I have found are using javascript to call the disconnects etc.  Since the app is using an extension panel and not a webpage/browser those examples won't work.

    correct session management is configured at the web-app level in web.xml and

  • Loaded 20.1. When I add Session Manager extension, address & search bars disappear. Can't retreive unless I reload Firefox from scratch. How to fix?

    No prior Firefox version. Started with 20.1. Have not loaded 20.1 on my other computers, so i don't know if the problem is universal. Need Session Manager because Firefox crashes frequently.

    Session Manager has had a lot of bug fixes the past week, I suspect mostly related to the new per-window private browsing feature. Could you try the new version 0.8.0.5? You need to use the "Versions" page to get it, as it hasn't yet been approved for the main page:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/session-manager/versions/#version-0.8.0.5
    Hope that helps. You'll also see some even newer pre-release versions addressing specific bugs. I wouldn't try those just yet unless you see that one of them fixes issues you find in 0.8.0.5.

  • Can't find old tabs from a crashed session - session manager tool has disappeared!

    I had 3 or 4 browsing sessions that crashed late last year and in January. I went to try and recover them today using the Session Manager tool, but all of the backup sessions in the session folder were gone... There were always a gazillion backups as my Firefox crashes repeatedly, and I usually have at least 100 tabs open at any one time. I know, I know!
    All I thought I had to do was to open up the backup sessions! I'm distraught. Lots of research is gone - including all my wedding planning :(
    I don't know if this is relevant, but my Session Manager add on had disappeared when I went to look for the backup sessions. I reinstalled it and then tried to find them, but they're not there.
    Please help if you can?

    It is not possible to tell if a sessionstore.js file has those tabs.<br />
    If the file is from a date that you had those tabs open and if the file is not corrupted then it is possible that they have your tabs.
    What is the file size of the sessionstore.js files?
    If they are below 1MB then you can try to validate the file via an online JSON validate website.
