Sessions problem starting a new task.

I have used
CALL FUNCTION 'ABAP4_CALL_TRANSACTION'
    STARTING NEW TASK 'XXXX'
    EXPORTING
      tcode                 = 'ZTRX'
    EXCEPTIONS
      communication_failure = 1
      system_failure        = 2.
where a program/report is called by ztrx transaction. xxxx is never defined and I hope this is correct. I have the problem that after starting the transaction ztrx in a new session, if an error occurs, is very difficult o sometime impossible to kill sessions opened.
Is there a method (using a different call FM or specific tests) to avoid multiple and not controlled open sessions?

if you are seeing:
#### Java Web Start
try turning on all tracing and see if more information is shown in trace file.
(in 1.4.2 or 1.5.0 create file ".javawsrc" in your home directory with:
TraceBasic=true
TraceSecurity=true
TraceNetwork=true
TraceTemp=true
TraceCache=true
then turn on tracing in the Java Control Panel.

I've found the issue on Mac. Apparently if the server sends back nothing, "Content-Length: 0", NetLingo hangs... not very robust. This isn't a problem on Windows, but the hack is to always send at least one byte payload.

Zen Touch: problems starting, touchpad, new firmw

This is a description, in chronological order, of the issues I have had with the Creative Zen Touch player.
. Bought player, charged exactly as described and player would not get past Zen Touch screen. Tried everything without success, had player swapped by **bleep** Smith.
2. WMA and data files added to new player without any problems. Players seems to work well.
3. More files added, but I started receiving an error when trying to copy files to the player from the computer. It seems that the player requires significant power to talk to the computer, this problem was more prevalent on a computer with USB .. A full battery charge will work but this will be drained quickly, so the best bet is to plug the player into the mains while it is docked with the computer. This should be added to the manual.
4. Player seems to work well from that time till the past week.
5. Installed newest firmware a week or more ago.
6. During the past week there was one day when the touchpad would not work properly. This problem was that moving between items becamse very cumbersome. I would move to a selection, but when I lifted my finger, the selection would jump two places lower. If I just touched the touchpad, the selection would jump two places lower. This problem rectified itself a day later.
7. Tried to start player as per normal but it would not start. Used reset buton, player started and had at least two thirds of battery (ie I guess that the problem starting was not battery related).
8. The next day, the same problem occurs, but reset would not work. Tried many means of starting player, until plugging into mains. Player starts and shuts down as per normal within a short period of time. Waiting significantly longer and the problem starting the player will arise.
9. Went to special menu on player and cleaned up player then rebooted. Player seems to work.
0. Next day player will not start. Tried pressing and holding down the start button for a long time, pressing many times in a short period, using reset button, using reset with play/pause button. Eventually tried mains, which brought the Creative logo onto the screen with no backlight, player did not even try to charge itself (ie flashing led on start/shutdown switch). I left player plugged into the mains and came back to find it charging. After this, the player started.
. Later in the day, I tried unsuccesfully to start player without success, using all possible tricks as mentioned. Went to inspect player a while later and it had was playing.
2. Now I have found that if I do not actually perform a shutdown and the player switches itself off using the idle settings, it will start up more easily, but not the first time. It seems that the touchpad problem (read above) has returned, but not as bad as before, in conjunction with the player being slightly easier to start (up to 5 attempts at pressing start).
Theories:
- When player is shut down it stays in a quick start mode for a period of time. During this time, if player is started, it will quickly start up and begin playing. After this time, a procedure automatically changes so that a more full startup is required during the next start-up, eg parking hard dri've or something else.
- When a player is shutdown from idle, a different shutdown happens, allowing easier startup later.
- The player in question is having difficulty starting from this second mode.
- Start/Stop button not jammed or working. Unlikely because I can shut down using the button
- Player not receiving startup message. Possible, but unlikely because reset does not work and theory .
- Battery not strong enough to perform initial startup? Feasible option given that the only time the player could start was when plugged into mains. However, player does have 2/3 of life left, which does not make any sense, unless the battery indicator is faulty. Fully charging the battery did not make a difference. Thus, max output of battery may have diminished.
- Hard dri've faulty. I am not hearing any hard dri've sounds when attempting a startup, so this is unlikely, since once player is started, everything works.
- New firmware is problematic. Explains sudden change in player's working. However, when I went to downgrade the firmware it said that the files may be corrupted by going back a version, yet to test.
- New firmware requires a hard disk format to work properly. Was this fully tested by Creative before release? Ie, did they put 0 gig of music on a Touch, then upgrade the firmware and see if the player continues to work correctly for a reasonable period?
- Player is a first time release with unironed bugs trying to capture the overflow from iPod, and we are the testers.
To Creative,
I am reasonably upset by this turn of events. I chose the Creative player over the iPod because of the battery life, reported music quality, ability to play more formats and the added storage. However, I would prefer a more durable player to what I appear to have in my possession. I believe I have given a reasonable description of the player and its problems, which should assist, unless the problem is already known. Please advise me of my options Creative.

anyways I too have been haveing the jump problem. I've gotten somewhat accustomed to it, but I simply can't wish I had an iPod....its control is so much better. My friend said that this was how the iPod was at first, but then it got better. Now whether this was a software problem (I hope so) or an actual hardware issue (I'm going to be ticked if they don't replace it), I don't know. They better rectify it.
I wrote them a huge, uber persuasi've, rhetorically packed essay about why they must fix this problem if they wish to ever be on the same playing field as apple.
and I never got a reply.
so we'll see what happens. they better fix it.

Session problem in a new window created by window.open()

I have a drugsearch.jsp page, I sessioned an durgCollection object on this jsp page using session.setAttribute("drugCollection",drugCollection);
there is a link on this jsp which will call a javascript to open a new window .
here is the javascript to open another new window:

but in the Report.jsp, I won't be able to get the same session object as in the calling jsp ( drugsearch.jsp) by calling session.getAttribute("drugCollection").
if I change the link on drugsearch.jsp to link to the Report.jsp directly instead of opening a new window, then I can get the same session object from the Report.jsp.
what's the problem? can someone give me an advice?

A session is assosiated with one client(browser).
when you open a new browser, a new session is created. In order to have common place for both the browsers, try storing the data in the 'Servlet Context'

When in the middle of doing work Firefox just crashes, A sorry window pups up asking if user wants to Reload the same session or start a new session. This never happen with previous versions.

Since I updated Firefox to the latest version it crashes a lot and although I can reload the session I was working with it is annoying and time consuming. I always keep my computer 100% updated and virus free as I always run Norton. I also have 4 G of RAM and 500 G disk drive so it is not lack of RAM and never keep more that 3 windows open at the same time.

(1) Firefox's built-in post-crash page has not been a real HTML page for a long time (for example, from the time of Firefox 22, see: [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/968212 Want to save LOTS of versions of "Restore Session.xht" from the "oops ..." page for later use]). If you had this working differently with Firefox 25, that might have been created by an extension.
You can check to see whether extensions are disabled or need an update on the Add-ons page. Either:
* Ctrl+Shift+a
* orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. The disabled extensions cluster toward the bottom of the list. To poll for updates, use the "gear" button above the list and choose Check for Updates.
If you used the Reset feature (or Firefox automatically did a reset due to some problem during upgrading), you will need to reinstall missing extensions. The reset feature creates a folder on the desktop named Old Firefox Data. Do you have that folder? There may be data you can recover from it.
(2) There are many ways for history to get cleared, both internal to Firefox and external. Could you double-check your Privacy settings?

Firefox normally accumulates months of history. However, some of Firefox's database sizes are based on disk space available. If your hard drive is very full, Firefox might reduce the amount of history stored.

Problems starting up new iMac 27", nothing seems to help

Only been used about 5 times over the past two weeks, suddenly no startup. Half a logo appears and the screen is filled with bars. Then the screen turns grey.

Attempt to start it in Safe Mode if that does not work it's still covered by warranty so you should take it into your local Apple Store or AASP. However if you purchased AppleCare please give them a call before attempting anything.
Safe Mode Restart
When you hear the start up tone hold down the Shift Key
When you see a progress bar appear release the Shift Key and allow the computer to fully boot.
After restarting in Safe Mode try restarting normally.
Note: A Safe Mode restart will reset some caches, it's possible one or more has become corrupt. Also when doing a Safe Mode reset it's not a bad idea to disconnect any peripherals such as USB, Firewire or Thunderbolt devices.

Firefox cannot open/reload any websites after resuming from a system standby. I have to close the current window and start a new session, then it works again

I am using Firefox v 13.0.1 (Mozilla Firefox for Ubuntu canonical 1.0) on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. Whenever my system resumes from standby I am not able to open/load any webpages in the Firefox session that was already running before the standby. I don't get any error message, but the page doesn't load at all. If I close the session and start a new one everything works fine.

Call Function STARTING NEW TASK ----- Resource not available

I am calling a Function Module in new task using STARTING NEW TASK.
If the resources are not available for the Dialog Process to start, for how long will SAP keep on trying to acquire the resources and in case if it fails to acquire resource, then what will happen

Hi,
From memory (as it is a long time since I've done this) you can call another function module or SAP command that will tell you how many work processes are currently available before you actually then start the new task. This can help you to avoid this issue and also stop you from eating up all available work processes on a system which will annoy all other users!

Say, I want to enhance a standard update function module and call a new function module in it using STARTING NEW TASK,
is it possible to do so?
Because, when I try to do this, i am getting update termination

Call function in new task in RECEIVE RESULTS module

Hello Gurus,
at the end of one of the parallel tasks I have in my program I have to trigger a new task. The problem is that this is not permitted
Does anyone have a solution for this very very nasty problem?? I can't belive this is not possible.
I am starting about 8 tasks and after each one is ready I have to start the next set of tasks but do not want to wait until all of them are finished.

Normally you control starting of new tasks via global counters (one of the very few reasons to use global variables...) that track the number of tasks started and finished, and compare that to the number of DIA processes reserved for the parallel RFC action using the WAIT UNTIL command. This way new tasks are started once processes become available again.
I don't see a reason to start new tasks in the RECEIVE RESULTS section, and it's obviously not allowed anyway.

Thanks, Ian. Yeah, that's how I do it now...or with the controls in the left side pane. Still, I would have liked that quick on-the-spot edit capability...especially while sketching.

when i change the function module from normal to remote, it gives me a error that the "generic types are not allowed in RFC", but i have not given any generic type in the parameters.

Incase you want to call a RFC FM in background you can call ity like this.
     call function 'Y_L_TO_CREATE_HUPAST' in background task
             exporting
          venum   = y_v_venum
          backg   = 'X'
           buser   = y_lv_uname
          langu   = sy-langu
          objky   = y_lv_objky
          printer = y_lv_printer.
Here Y_L_TO_CREATE_HUPAST is a RFC FM.

Starting new task 'latepy'

Hi all,
Do I have to create the task 'latepy' here at somewhere?
CALL FUNCTION 'ZHR_SENDMAIL STARTING NEW TASK 'latepy'
exporting ...
importing ...
exceptions ...
When I have removed the " starting new task 'latepy' "
mails are sent but if not, mails are not sent and assigned their properties as 'No entry in queue yet'.
As last remedy, I can remove the 'latepy' to handle the problem but I wonder this task matter.

no..you don't have to create the task anywhere else...the task is just meant for executing the FM in a separate session in asynchronous mode..
you can check the results of this task using the RECEIVE RESULTS FROM FUNCTION to see if your function has executed successfully
