Set default width of columns in JTable

i have a JTable which has multiple columns.
the rows dont fit into the JTAble normally so i needed to add a horizontal scroll pane which was done by
        table.setAutoResizeMode(JTable.AUTO_RESIZE_OFF);the problem now is that the columns are squashed into table,
i want to be able to set the width of the columns, is there anyway of doing this?

  • HELP Friends!!! How to set the width of columns of JTABLE?

    Hi!
    How to set the width of a particular column in JTable?
    I tried using headerRenderers and though I'm able to set the color and font of the header (using getTableCellRendererComponent method)I can't change the size.
    Pls some one help me..it's very urgent.
    Thanks in advance.

    JTable.getColumnModel().getColumn(i).setWidth(width). There are also setPreferredWidth, setMaxWidth and setMinWidth methods.

  • REG: Set default width of the ALV header Text

    Hi,
    The issue which is reported is .
    We have a Custom Z program which needs to display the ALV Output. And also there is a scope to change the Layout,
    Now in one of the fields, there is
    LOAD_NUMBER.
    The length of this header is set to 11 in the Change Layout screen,
    Now the issue is, If i want to change the layout and set the default width to 15 char and then save it
    1)The ALV layout is saving with the Width as 15 and now i can see
    *|LOAD_NUMBER<space><space><space><space>|*
    |_________________________________________|
    |_________________________________________|
    |_________________________________________|
    But when i re execute the Z Program, the first time when i go to the Change ALV Output screen, then i still see 11 as the default width,
    *EITHER *
    I want to get the default width what i have saved previously
    OR
    I want to set the default width to 15
    Please give me suggestions or clues to handle such situations.
    NOTE The ALV used is Blocked ALV.
    Thanks
    Sri

    Hi SRIKANTH,
    ALV has a very weird feature: The layout is stored in some buffering tables that can not be accessed directly by the user. The buffer is re-generated only once a day when the layout changes.
    Just run report BALVBUFDEL once, this may change it.
    With ALV, I use the column width optimization feature avoiding trouble like this.
    FORM alv_layout  CHANGING ps_layout TYPE lvc_s_layo.
      ps_layout-sel_mode          = 'A'.
      ps_layout-cwidth_opt        =
      ps_layout-zebra             = abap_true.
    ENDFORM.                    " ALV_LAYOUT

  • Setting default value to columns on tabular form is not working.

    Hi,
    I created a tabular form and i want to set some default values to columns based on the values in page items.
    so i set the page item to column value in tabular form attributes by selecting the Default type as PLSQL Expression & Function DEFAULT value &P24_ISSUE_ID. it worked fine but
    in the similar way i tried for the another column by selecting the default type as pl/sql expression & function and default value &P24_CASE_NAME.
    but it throwing an error for this like failed to parse SQL query:    ORA-00904: "C254DB": invalid identifier
    i don't understand where i gone wrong even i checked for the data types of the columns, everything is fine.
    so please help me out of this problem.

Outside of a block in which it is defined as a variable, constant or function "C254DB" is not a valid PL/SQL expression.

  • Set default width for text box in Adobe Acrobat X

    Hello!
    I am using the textbox tool to add comments to a document. (not the Typewriter, but the Textbox, since that has more flexibility for formatting the text).
    I know how to set the default proprties for text size, color, background color, etc.
    Cannot figure out however to to set the default width. Every time I try to add a new textbox, it defaults to about 1 or 2 inches wide, so the text wraps around and around, and then I have to resize the box when I am done.
    Is there a way to change the default width?
    Thanks!

    Hi, Amonra
    I drew a box I like, and select, and then, Ctrl+C, and then Ctrl+V.
    And move the pasted box where to need, and resize the length. At least I get same width boxes.
    I don't know how to default it.
    I hope it may help you.

  • Setting fixed width on columns with the Column Graph Tool

    Hi,
    I'm trying to perfect my charts a little.
    Right now the width of my columns using the Column Graph Tool seem to be dictated by how many columns I got in total. So if I only have two columns both get really wide. But if I have four, they look just nice. Is there any way to set a fixed width on columns with the Column Graph Tool?
    Thanks!

    What am I thinking.
    Select your graph double click the graph tool at the bottom of the dialog, enter the percentage you want the coulmns to be  and the percentage you want that cluster to occupy.
    Duh!

  • JTable Model   --  How to set the width of columns

    Hello,
    This project of mine is due in 2 days. :(
    I am using AbstractTableModel and I can't figure out how to set the columns' width inside my JTable?
    This following code does not work.
    int vColIndex = 1;
    TableColumn col = table.getColumnModel().getColumn(vColIndex);
    int width=399;
    col.setPreferredWidth(width);Please remember, that I'm using AbstractTableModel and not just simple JTables.
    Thanks in advance.

    The DataModel (AbstractTableModel or otherwise) has nothing to do with the table column size. The DataModel is used to store data.
    When you create a JTable using a DataModel then a TableColumn is created for each column in the DataModel using a default column size. The normal order of creation would be:
    TableModel model = new DefaultTableModel(...);
    JTable table = new JTable(model);
    Now that the table and table columns are created you can change the size of the columns:
    int vColIndex = 1;
    TableColumn col = table.getColumnModel().getColumn(vColIndex);
    int width=399;
    col.setPreferredWidth(width);
    So your code looks ok.
    However, if somewhere in you code you do:
    a) table.setModel(...)
    b) fireTableStructureChanged();
    then the table columns are recreated based on the current DataModel and the table column size would be reset to the default values.

  • Set Background color of columns in JTable

    Hi,
    I would like to set the background color of columns, which are not editable, to a grey color.
    I have a JTable with 8 columns where the first is not editable (set through a TableModel.
    Regards
    Thomas

    one can use a most efficient method of changing looks of table data by overidding prepareRenderer() method of JTable. this method returns a component which JTable uses to display a cell. a solution could be
    public class mytable extends JTable
       public component prepareRenderer(.......)
            component c = super.prepareRenderer(....);
             if ( not_my_column )
                return c;
            c.setBackground(Color.grey);
            return c;
    }

  • How to set default values for boolean columns

    I'm trying to deploy some content types and columns into a site with a feature. All it's ok, except that I'm trying to set a default value for boolean columns with no success.
    I've tried to set default value at column level:
    <Field ID="{EFE23A1D-494E-45cf-832E-45E41B17F0CF}" Name="ScopeSpanish" DisplayName="Se publican noticias en español"
    Type="Boolean" Hidden="FALSE" Group="Columnas ShaCon" >
    <Default>TRUE</Default>
    </Field>
    and at content type level:
    <FieldRef ID="{EFE23A1D-494E-45cf-832E-45E41B17F0CF}" Name="ScopeSpanish" DefaultValue="TRUE" Required="TRUE" />
    But in any case, when i create a new item with this content type, default value is applied.
    Can anyone tell how to set default values for boolean columns?
    Thanks in advance,
    Regards,

    In the field definition you can set
    <Default>1</Default>
    or
    <Default>0</Default>

  • AUTO_RESIZE jtable set column width by column header

    Do I need to use one of the AUTO_RESIZE methods, the TableColumnModel, or another method in order to set the default width for a column based on the width of the column header.

  • Is there any way to set default column widths in the Finder's Column view

    When my Finder windows open in column view, all the columns are always VERY wide. I have to then spend time resizing them to a managable width. Is there any way to set default column widths in the Finder's Column view?
    <Re-Titled By Host>

    No, because you can't set a columns view default.

  • Is it possible to set default column widths in list view when using a finder window in Mavericks?

    The default 'document' column is way too wide and forces you eye to track all the way across the screen to read info like "date modified', 'kind' or 'size'.
    Tried several times to create a narrower default 'document name' column with no results. Couldn't find anything in preferences or view options. Tried dragging column headers while holding the down the option key with no results.
    Every time I open a new finder window, all columns except the 'document' column affixed to the right side of the window. Also, when you grab the bottom right corner of a window to resize smaller, the lists become re-affixed to the right side of the window when opening the window back up.
    Experiencing the same problem in Mavericks 10.9.3 on an iMac and Macbook Pro Retina.
    Thanks if you've made it this far:)

    This was a great place for me to start
    Thank you
    I took profdant139's suggestions a bit further as my real goal was to have the "Document column" narrower. The goal to be able to see all the other document info that was usually hidden way out to the right
    To achieve my results I right clicked in the upper bar with the column names and chose from the drop down box "comments" column (as suggested). I then dragged it to the far right. This pushed all the other columns over.
    In the end of the day I ended up adding "Size" and "Date modified" columns as well to get my desired results.
    Remember one can move different columns around to be in the order you need by clicking on the column to get it active and then left click and drag it to where you want
    Another great thing is that by default (Using Mavericks) the date modified, opened,created columns have date and time. One can shrink them down to xx/xx/xx format by manually adjusting the column width like one does in Excel - click on column separator up top and drag
    Once all that is done, at least on my box, I closed it out and opened up a new finder window and everything was as I wanted.
    Thank you for the help  from the above helper to get me here

    Hi,
    In addition to setting DO_SUM = 'X' you need to specify function in H_FTYPE field. It should be set to 'AVG' in your case.
    ls_fielcat-do_sum = 'X'.
    ls_fieldcat-h_ftype = 'AVG.

    This is now the third person to tell you that Swing questions should be posted in the Swing forum.
    You have several postings out there where you have been given an answer but you haven't bothered to respond to the posting. Indicating whether the suggestion was helpfull or not. I guess you really don't want help from people in the future.
