Set heap size for applet

I know that it is not allowed programmatically but what is syntex of the command to set max jvm. Which class name muste given in the command. I tried :
java -Xmx128m
if I write just like that, a screen shows as I write -help.
Thank you

I suspect you can't
anything like that is restricted as it allows you
access to the system.
this prevents against the possibility overflow.
though having said that , I don't know much about native methods in JAVA.

  • Upto how much I can set maximum Heap size for jvm?

    I am running application on 8GB RAM Windows 64 bits machine.
    I am running out of OutOfMemory (Heap Space). I want to increase the Heap Size for my jvm.
    But can anybody please tell me what is the limit by which I can set the maximum size for heap?
    Thanks in Advance,
    Jenish

    Max allowed memory per process is 2 raised to the 64th power. What maximum memory you can set depends on the memory available
    for your application. You may be able to set more than 8GB ram then it will use the swap space and it will slow down your application
    performance. So try different memory size and see which one works best for your application.

  • Is there a way to set new default heap size for Java?

    Hi,
    I have a problem with setting global heap size for installed version of Java. By global I mean that every program that will be run using that version of Java, will be using that amount of memory. for heap. I know that I can use Xmx and Xms for each program that I start, but I don't want to do this. I just want to set some kind of property for installed version of Java.

    Launch Firefox and set the web page as wide as you want by dragging the hash marks at the lower right corner. Center the page on your screen where you want it. Then quit Firefox. launch Firefox again. The page should be just where on the screen and sized as you set it prior to quitting.

    You need to use the -d64 switch to request the 64-bit JVM. E.g.,$ java -showversion -Xmx6g HelloWorld
    Invalid maximum heap size: -Xmx6g
    The specified size exceeds the maximum representable size.
    Could not create the Java virtual machine.
    $ java -showversion -d64 -Xmx6g HelloWorld

    If you are encountering java.lang.OutOfMemoryError, then you can avoid this error, by setting heap size as reasonable.

  • Recommended heap sizes for Dev/Live/Shared CF boxes

    Hi all
    I've searched through all the relevant past posts, but most of them were posted before CF8.0.1 going 64-bit, so the situation has changed slightly.
    What are people's opinions on heap sizes for various server setups? I have my dev server - I leave this on 512MB and that's fine for most of the stuff I do. We generally up this to a gig on our live servers (which only run 3-4 small sites), and historically we've not gone above this on our Shared servers (which host anywhere up to 400 sites) because of the 32-bit limit.
    However, now we're running CF9 on 64-bit Server 2008, we've obviously got a lot more RAM available. The obvious choice is to ramp it up high, but I've also been heard that causes issues of its own - the Java GC then has far more work to do when it's called and as the memory fills it's harder to get a contiguous block of RAM, so performance can suffer.
    Does anyone have any experience of running Shared servers, or busy sites? The Server monitor is great for tuning maximum threads and the suchlike, but I can't really sit in front of it for hours waiting for the heap to fill. Also, our live servers are only Standard edition, so there's no Server Monitor.
    Thoughts?

    Leave the memory setting at the default value, until testing requires you to do otherwise, or your sites unravel some unforeseen memory demand. It's a risk our SysAdmin colleagues are prepared to take. With the coming of 64-bit, they've been on the alert, and have always cattle-prodded us whenever we've been tempted to push the button to go higher.
    Our defaults almost coincide with yours: 512 MB for 32-bit and just over 1GB for 64-bit. So what you yourself have just said is my own basic wisdom on the subject, too: if it aint broke, don't try to fix it.

  • How to set the size for height of iView tray?

    Hi,
    I have created a ABAP webdynpro component and integrated this comp with iView. Then i integrated iView into Page in portal. That is working fine.
    But the size of tray/window which is displayed in the page is very small.
    How to increase the height of that Tray/window/iView containing my component?

    Hi,
    By changing the maximum automatic height and Minimum automatic height property of the iview you can set the size for height of your iview.
    to do this follow the setps:
    goto content administrator -> portal content -> your folder where you created your iview or directly to your iview -> right click -> open -> object,
    and now in property category choose appearance-Size from the drop down menu and set the above properties to your required height.
    if you want the end user to modify this property set the property to read/write .

  • Set height size for each state enabling browser scrollbar if needed..

    I'm working on a flex project, completely new to it. I'm trying to resize my application based on the set height size for each state. I'd like the wrapper to resize in the browser so that the  browser's scroll bar appears if needed. hope this makes sense....
    My enitial opening page I've set the height to 1000. now when I click on a link to another state from this page, we'll call it 'home' which i have set to 2000
    The page opens in its 2000 height but no scroll bar appears to scroll down in the browser...
    If anyone's done this or knows how to, I'd really appreciate your input.

    I've done something similar with a few of my apps, you have to use a little javascript on the html page and the ExternalInterface class in your app. Basically, you need to resize the "browser's" height based on your flash file.  So here's quick example:
    In your html template page (which you can edit in your flashbuilder project panel ->html-template->indext.template.html)
    in your html add the jscript function:
    <script type="text/javascript">
             function setWindowHeight(heightVal){
                 document.getElementById('theWindow').style.height=heightVal; // make sure to give the body tag an id of 'theWindow' or whatever
    </script>
    In your flashbuilder app you need to call the javascript fx, you can use the ExternalInterface class for this:
      ExternalInterface.call('setWindowHeight',val+'px');
    you need to send the jscript fx the height of your container or whatever you want it resized to....

  • How to increase Memory and Java Heap Size for Content Server

    Hi,
    My content server is processing requests very slowly. Over performance is not good. I have 2 GB of RAM any idea what files I can modify to increase the Java Heap Size for the Content Server. If I increase the RAM to 4 or 6 GB where do I need to make changes for the Java Heap Size and what are the recommended values. I just have Content Server Running on the linux box. Or how do I assign more memory to the user that owns the content server install.

  • How to set the size of applet when invoking forms through formsserver

    HI,
    I m using forms server to display my forms in browser, my
    problem is to change the size of applet at runtime so that the
    entire forms is displayed.
    right now the forms whose size is more r displayed with
    scrollbars.
    and thats giving me problem with printing.

    - The HEIGHT and WIDTH parameters in the HTML file are
    responsible for the size
    of the applet area. This is documented in the Forms online
    manuals. The
    manual also states that these values are in pixels.
    Tip
    This value can be set to a percentage of the browser's available
    work space.
    This means that if the browser is resized or the DISPLAY
    resolution is changed
    the applet area will adjust to those changes.
    Example
    Instead of the following:
    WIDTH=800
    HEIGHT=600
    Change to:
    WIDTH=100%
    HEIGHT=100%
    This will make the applet use 100% of the browser's work space.
    If you
    change the values to 50%, the applet will use 50% or the
    browser's space.
    The HEIGHT and WIDTH values can be defined in your FORMSWEB.CFG
    or your own
    static html file. These values can also be added to the URL when
    using CGI.
    NOTE: THIS WILL NOT WORK IF SEPARATEFRAME=TRUE

  • Mapping set heap sizes to used memory

    Hi all,
    I've got a question about the parameters used to control your java process' heap sizes: "-Xms128m -Xmx256m" etc.
    Let's say I set my min and max to 2Gb, just for a simplistic example.
    If I then look at the linux server my process is running on, I may see a top screen like so:
    PID USER      PR  NI  VIRT  RES  SHR S %CPU %MEM    TIME+  COMMAND
    10647 javaprog 20   0 2180m 1.9g  18m S  1.3  3.7   1:57.02 javaWhat I'm trying to understand is what relationship - if any - there is between these arguments and the figures I see within top. One thing in particular that I'm interested in is the fact that I occasionally see a RES (or more commonly a VIRT) size higher than the maximum that I have provided to Java. Naively I would assume that therefore there isn't a relationship between the two... but I wouldn't mind someone clarifiying this for me.
    Any resources on the matter would be appreciated, and I apologise if this question is outside the realms of this particular subforum.
    Dave.

    It will always reserve this much virtual memory, plus. In term of resident memory, even the minimum is not guarenteed to be used. The minimum specifies at what point it will make little effort to recycle memory. i.e. it grows to the minimum size freely, but a "Hello World" program still won't use the minimum size.No, Linux does not reserve virtual memory. Just Google "Linux memory overcommit". Out-of-the-box, every Linux distro I'm aware of will just keep returning virtual memory to processes until things fall apart and the kernel starts killing processes that are using lots of memory - like your database server, web server, or application-critical JVMs. You know - the very processes you built and deployed the machine to run. Just Google "Linux OOM killer".Thats not the behaviour I see. When I start a process which busy waits, but doesn't create any objects, the virtual memory sized used is based on the -mx option, not how much is used. Given virtual memeory is largely free, why would an OS only give virtual memory on an as needs basis.
    Busy looping process which does nothing.
    In each case the resident size is 16m
    option       virtual size
    -mx100m      368m = 100m + 268m
    -mx250m      517m = 250m + 267m
    -mx500m      769m = 500m + 269m
    -mx1g        1294m = 1024m + 270m
    -mx2g        2321m = 2048m + 273mTo me it appears that the maximum size you ask is immediately added to the virtual memory size, even if its not used (plus an overhead) i.e. the resident size is only 16m.Yes, it's only using 16m. And its virtual size may very well be what you see. But that doesn't mean the OS actually has enough RAM + swap the hold what it tells all running processes they can have.
    How much RAM + swap does your machine have? Say it's 4 GB. You can probably run 10 or 20 JVMs simultaneously with the "-mx2g" option. Imagine what happens, though, if they actually try and use that memory - that the OS said they could have, but which doesn't all exist.
    What happens?
    The OOM killer fires up and starts killing processes. Which ones? Gee, it's a "standard election procedure". Which on a server that's actually doing something tend to be the processes actually doing something, like your DBMS or web server or JVM. Or maybe it's your backups that get whacked because they're "newly started" and got promised access to memory that doesn't exist.
    Memory overcommit on a server with availability and reliability requirements more stringent than risible is indefensible.

  • Unable to set heap size to 4gb in sun java application server pe 8.2

    i have sun v890 machine with 32gb ram and solaris 10
    i am running sun java system application server platform edition 8.2
    when i am setting max heap size to 4GB
    it is giving an error
    Invalid maximum heap size -Xmx4096m
    the specified size exceeds the maximum representable size
    i want to know what i should do to increase this heap size.
    also tell me if the JVM running is 64bit. if not how can i change it
    to 64bit VM.

    The maximum size for a 32-bit process on Solaris (any 32-bit process, not just Java) is 4GB, which includes the program text, thread stacks, and various other things in addition to the JVM heap. So the maximum heap you can expect to allocate for the appserver is about 3500MB.
    SJSAS 8.2 does not support a 64-bit JVM; SJSAS 9.1 is needed for that. However, it's very rare that a Java EE application actually needs that much memory, and the 64-bit JVM has a performance penalty vs. the standard JVM. So more heap is probably not going to make your app run any better.
