Set MS Report to obtain data from programmatically created dataset?

Greetings everyone!
My problem: I decided that I should add a bunch of reports in the app develop for a hospital. I programmatically coded a search from a Mysql database and added a dataset (let me call it "patients_search) as usual. Then I created a DataGridView and used
the created Dataset as its data source, this works properly, no problem.
But as of recent, I decided that I should quit using datagrid for my reporting and use the VS 2013 inbuilt MS Report Viewer. I would like to create a report and let it pick its data from the existing dataset ("patients_search") which is created programmatically.
So instead of binding my dataset to a datagridview, now I want to bind it to a report.
But it seems the MS Report wants me to use a dataset created with the designer, not programmatically created dataset -and I don't want this.
I have searched many places online, I have not seen anyone do that. I have seen some people say that it is impossible to link the MS Report to a programmatically created dataset.
I have come here to ask for more experts help. Is there a way I can do this inside VB.NET? Please help.
If this is not possible, then what's the other possible way of creating reports? I can't purchase Crystal Reports.

    Issue: Report not displaying data from one of the infoproviders
    I have a report 'ReportA' which has multiprovider MP1 as the source.
    MP1 has two Infocubes IC1, IC2 in its design.
    Now, when i execute the report, data from IC1 is displayed. But no data from IC2 is displayed.
    Is there a setting i need to enable in MP1 ? or is there anything else that needs to be enabled ?

    Hi All,
    When i display data directly from the multi provider, without any restrictions, i cannot view the data from infocube IC2.
    I feel its not an issue with the Query. It must be a problem with the setting in the Multiprovider MP1.
    Infocube IC2 is a copy of Infocube IC1. Multiprovider MP1 first only had IC1 in its design. It was recently IC2 was also included.
    I checked the Characteristics, all of them are assigned corectly.
    Now, this issue sure has something to do wiht the setting of Multiprovider or please correct me if wrong.

  • Using crystal report to extract data from Audit Log

    I have a customised form which contains main fields (i.e 20 fields) and when a field is changed, it's being recorded in the audit log.
    Would it be possible to use Crystal Report to extract data from the Audit Log? Ideally, i would like the report to show me all the latest field values in a spreadsheet type format (i.e. one field per column)
    Has anyone try this and if so, what is involved?

  • One report to pull data from SQL or DB2

    Hi Guys,
    First post here.  I have scoured the internet using our good friend google for answers and have come up empty.  I hope someone can help me here!
    Some Info: Crystal XI R2, Visual Studio 2005, Ms SQL Server 2005, DB2, VB.NET
    What I am trying to accomplish is using one report to pull data from either SQL 2005 or DB2.
    The problem I get is if the report is configured to pull data from SQL 2005, I cannot change it using the code below to pull data from DB2.  The SQL Report uses the Microsoft OLEDB Provider.  The DB2 report uses the IBM DB2 UDB for iSeries IBMDA400 OLEDB provider.  When I quickwatch the oCRTable logon information, it seems to retain the other database's info.
    Any ideas?

    David,
    Your suggestion worked to near perfection.  The only problem was that if I configured the datasource locations of the report and sub reports in CR to use the SQL ODBC, the .net program would successfully log in using the DB2 info but had a problem reading the data.  If I configured the datasource locations of the report and subreports in CR to use the DB2 ODBC, everything worked!  Thanks for the advice.

    I need to go to the ALUI LDAP ( directory ) services to get user profile information.
    The documentation did not help me to figure out the way to obtain data from it.
    so , it would be a great help if some one could share the sample java code api to obtain data from ALUI directory.

    i'm guessing you are asking to get the groups for a particular user. someone in the other thread posted the actual SQL, that may be easier. ( you are on 10gR3 right, because ALUI directory didn't exist before 6.5)

  • Report missing some data from dataset

    Hi
    I populate my report using a dataset and most of the time the report generation is successful.
    but after a while (3-5 reports) I start getting missing data in the report. Either the png blobs do not get printed or some other string fields. Usually the same strings are missing.
    If I continue generating reports after that I get "report could not be submitted for background processing" error or since I use some fields for formatting I get errors corresponding to those formulas where I try to use the missing fields.
    I have checked the dataset before SetDataSource and it is complete, images and all.
    Is there some way to restart the embedded crystal reports thread/process programmatically from c#? if the problem is because of memory fragmentation, this might solve the problem.
    I use crystal reports basic 2008 for visual studio 2008.

    In a memory intensive environment like this, it is possible that we will run into these issues. The thing is - as I understand these tings, Microsoft does not let a 3rd party just go out and use the dataset. E.g.; the Crystal Reports engine is forced to make a copy of the dataset and use that. So, now you've chewed up more memory again. It would be interesting to do four things;
    1) monitor the memory and see if there is a particular value at which it is more likely to get the issue
    2) take out the report and dataset into another sample app that is not using these x-rays and see if you duplicate the issue there
    3) see if CR 2008 (12.x) handles the memory better. As these versions go, there are always improvements. I am not aware of a particular "thing" done to the report engine or database engine in this respect, but it may be worth trying. An eval of CR 2008 can be downloaded from here:

  • Question about making printible reports by reading data from database

    We have a pressure test system which we want analyze and plot the instant pressure values in a pre-defined time interval. After each test we want the record the test results along with the other information(date, time, operator name, test no, product type, product number, etc.) added by the system operator. The data will be recorded to an access data base. Doing that, we want to make test results archive which we can make search within, to list the past test results, searching by date, seraching by product number, or searching by any other information in the database. Plus, in the future, we want to be able to take reports of these past test results, including the pressure/time graph and other information added by the system operator. Also we want to set the report format.
    My question is, is it possible to do this with LABVIEW 8.2? Do we need any toolkits or add-ons?

    Hi, Hasan.
    That would be an excellent use of LabVIEW. At the very least, you'll probably want to get the Database Connectivity Toolkit, and depending on your needs you may also want the Report Generation Toolkit. There are a lot of tools in the LabVIEW Development Environment for generating reports dynamically, but the Report Generation Toolkit includes a lot of advanced functionality not included in regular LabVIEW installations.
    That said, however, I really recommend you speak with one of our sales representatives to make sure you have everything you need. Since I know so little about how you'd be implementing each step of that process, I'm reluctant to guarantee it, and one of our representatives can tell you with much more certainty.   • Discoverer report returns no data from a certain time

    Using Discoverer 10g,a discoverer report which returned data normally last month gets to return no data now.
    We have four same environments, and two of them has this problem, two is OK.
    And the SQL of the discoverer of the four environments are the same.
    We have no any changment of this discoverer and related EUL for more than one year....
    How should we investigate into this issue.
    For example ,a point we should notice or something...
    Could somebody give us a suggestion?

    1.empty table that is joined in the query.The four environments has almost the same data,it is not the cause.
    2.security issue with the data, maybe the security definitions are different from one environment to another.we are now invesgate into this cause.
    and there is a sql of the discoverer's EUL which shows no data in a enviroment(in this enviroment discoverer report gets no data), but in another enviroment data can show.

    I am not able to set the button property after selecting data from list.
    I would like to say that
    * If a user select an item from list, then user is only allowed to update or delete the data. The update and delete button should be enabled and save button should be disabled.
    * If the users types data manually, then user is allowed only to save this as new entry. The update or delete button at this time should be disabled and only save button should be enabled.
    I want to say that
    In both case, value will be there
    In one case, value will be from list and that is available for update or delete
    in another case, value will be typed from keyboard that is available for save(new entry).
    I do not want to use separate form for update/delete/save new record. I want to use single form for all these operations.
    I am using Form 6i and oracle 8

  • How to obtain data from a device and display that data in an infinite loop

    I'm trying to run an infinite loop where I'm testing a robot for thermal insulation.
    I send the robot a command to run infinitely (using VISA communication)..., the robot starts running.
    At the same time I obtain the temperature data from its motors (through sensors) and want to display it. The data should be refreshed at regular itervals but I only get broken display of the data at various instances of time during the robot's test-run.
    I fear that there is a problem with the time synchronization. But having tried many permutations of time delays at various points in the program, I can not find the fault.
    Any help is much appreciated.

    We really need screen shots (*png format/NOT .bmp!) or attached code to see what might be the problem. There are an infinite number of mistakes that can be made (or nearly so), depending on how a program is written.

  • Service Level Tracking Reports show no data from the data warehouse db.

    Hi, I have some Service Level Tracking reports that will only show data from the last few days.  If I select last month as the time frame, there is no data displayed.  All of these reports have previously worked fine.  Nothing to my knowledge
    has changed, and it appears that the data is still being collected in the data warehouse database.  Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

    The scenario is as follows:
    We have an Datasource based on a ECC Table which contains data based on FISCAL YEAR and no period field such as X03, X06 & X09. these values are populated in INFOCUBE A. Also note that the ECC table itself does not contain any field which refers to Period.
    In my another INFOCUBE B, I have the value for the Period (ZZPERIOD) field on a Quaterly basis.
    Now the report requirement is:
    For the input value of ZZPERIOD = 201103, display value X03.
    similarly for X06 and X09.
    PLEASE ADVICE.

    I'm not sure you've understood my reply. Do you understand the notion of granularity? If not please read about this and understand it. Then you will have the answer you need.
    I'm assuming you have KFs in both cubes right? Now if Cube A is aggregated by Year - you cannot split these figures by anything other than Year.
    Just because you want to add other key figures from another cube (B) whose values sit at Cal Quarter does not mean that any coded rules you apply will result in correct figures when you drill down to Quarter. How do you propose to fix that? Answer: you can't, it's impossible without getting yourself in a lot of trouble with the business/your client.
    Your best bet is to add a characteristic into Cube A called 'Source of Data' and fill that in your transformations. Then you can load both data from A and B into the same cube A. When reporting, just use a restricted KF to pull out the values you want.
    If you drill down by Quarter of course Cube A KFs will be "not assigned" for the simple reasons I explained above.

  • Cross Tab Report not matching Data from report

    I created a report showing the number of orders created by each department per year for the last 5 years.  I double checked the data, and 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009 all are correct. 
    I then created a cross-tab for quick reference for my department head.  2005, 2006, 2007, and 2009 are all correct.  2008 is not. It shows 500 more orders than the data in the report for that year.
    I double checked my  "Group options" to make sure that they were the same in both the data and in the crosstabs.  Any idea what I could be missing?

    Try this, limit the report to only 2008, show details, add date to detail section, and add the record number (From special fields)
    see if this count matches what you think it should be, or is 500 over like the crosstab indicates.  You could group by date, by month, add a summary (Count) by date, and see what that comes up to.  If your extra records fall in a certain date range, double check the database to make sure there are not duplicate records.
