Setting alerts/notification in the portal

How does one push a mandatory message to a user and/or group?
Is there a programmatic way to show alert messages in the banner region if some logic requires it for a particular user and/or group as opposed to creating a alert portlet that shows nothing and takes up space most of the time.
What are some techniques used to push content/messages onto users in the oracle portal framework?

Hi Marcelo,
I assume you mean how to change language for a single iView only. For changing overall language, the user can just go to the portal personalize page.
For an iView, you can do a lookup of the iView and change the language, like so:
InitialContext iCtx = null;
String personalHello = "portal_content/DanielContent/DanRole/danWS/hello";

   iCtx = new InitialContext(env);
   IiView myIView = (IiView)iCtx.lookup(personalHello);
   myIView.putAttribute("ForcedRequestLanguage","de");

You would have to do a personalized JNDI lookup, so the language is only changed for the user. However, this would permanently change the page for this user.

Extended notifications and the portal

Hi All,
I'm using extended notification ( SWNADMIN ) to send the workitems in SRM/ECC to MS outlook . The background jobs SWNSEL etc are run in the respective systems . Emails produced have links to logon to the respective systems and display/execute the workitem but I want the users to login via the portal . Is that possible ?

then i would suggest, before the link opens the corresponding appl, pop up for the userid , create specific portal roles lik manager,hradmin etc, so that the workitems are executed.
But one thing i would like to mention is : extended notification is mainly useful for those who do not access portal often.

My requirement is user will submit Leave application form from one of the WD application then the Workflow has to send notification in the Protal for the HR.When HR see this request in his UWL it has to display the user entered leave details.

How do I rid the Extreme alert notification from the top menu bar?

I got one of those Extreme alert on my smart phone. I disabled it however the Notification is still present. Red Triangle! How does one remove this?

Good afternoon. Having an unwanted notification can be frustrating. Especially after disabling the notification. It will be my pleasure to address your notification concerns.
When you drag down your notification bar at the top of your phone, you should see the Extreme alert and a clear to the left. If you press clear and the notification does not go away, please remove the battery from your phone, then put back to your device. When you power your phone back on, the notification should be removed.

HTC Trophy Alerts/Notifications

For those that have used the phone, a few questions about various HTC Trophy alerts/notifications--for things like missed calls, voicemails, SMS/MMS messages, emails, etc.: 1. For any of those items mentioned above, is there a way to have an alert/notification that not only appears on a live tile but in some other place (perhaps even where you can read part of a message that was sent and/or see who called for a missed call)? 2. Is it possible to set any of these alerts/notifications to be repeatable? For example, if you have a missed call or a new text message, but you weren't by your phone when you got it, could you set things up so that it alerts you every few minutes or so if you wanted to? 3. There seems to be a notification LED present on the phone, is it used for anything else other than battery charging notifications (perhaps again for something like missed calls, voicemails, messages, etc.)? Is it configurable in any way? Thank you.

Strange, for some reason none of the spacing was retained in my first post and it all just appeared as continuous text.
In any case, now that some people have had the phone for a bit, anyone observed anything in the way of (repeatable) alerts/notifications for missed calls, voicemails, text/picture/video messages, etc. as well as any relationship of those alerts/notifications to the notification LED that should be located essentially within the Verizon logo at the top of the phone?

How to create a maintenance order based upon a notification, using the POWL for notifications ?
I am using NWBC and would like to create a maintenance order, based upon a notification put in process.
In R/3, this works fine using transaction IW22 / IW28 and all info from the noticiation is copied in the new order.
How can I get the same functionality using the role SAP_BPR_MAINTENANCE_TECH_12 ?

You should be able to select the Notification number from the POWL overview list and choose the "Create Order" push button on the Tollbar (along with display notification, change notification etc).
What i have noticed is that once you are inside the notification from the Portal application, the create Order push button or functionality doesn't seem to exists. This is probably incomplete functionality taking into consideration the standard IW22 transaction /Or a Bug and maybe you could raise a OSS Note for the same.

If notification items are left in the arbitration mailbox, they will be removed by the Managed Folder Assistant after 30 days because they are stamped with the AsyncOperationNotification system retention tag.

Where Can I Find The "Set Alert" Feature in Blackberry Messenger 5.0

I just upgraded my Blackberry Messenger from version 4.5 to 5.0.0.57 on my Curve 8310. However, in BB Messenger 5.0, I cannot figure out how to turn on the "set alert" feature that is available in BB Messenger 4.5 The "set alert" features allows you to know when an instant message has been read by the person you sent it to. This is an invaluable feature for me (and I believe for many other), hence I cannot believe BlackBerry removed this feature in BB Messenger 5.0.
Any help regarding this topic is greatly appreciated.

Honestly, I've never seen a setting for that. But, even with no such setting, I see the receipts just fine in all 1:1 conversations. Group conversations, however, don't show receipts -- and I don't recall any prior version showing such for groups.

Does anyone know how to set alerts in the iCloud calendar on Microsoft Outlook 2010 for a PC? Outlook gives me a warning message and does not allow me to save alerts for calendar events created in iCloud calendar. It will allow me to save events in the non-iCloud calendars.

For Mail, from your Mail menu bar (top of your screen) click Mail > Preferences then select the General tab.
Click the pop up menu to the right of New messages sound to make a selection.

Troubleshooting notifications
Push notifications require an active Wi-Fi or cellular connection. If you are not receiving notifications for a specific app, try these steps:
Verify that the app supports notifications.
After installing an app or restoring a backup to a different iOS device, open the app at least once to begin receiving notifications.
If the app requires entering or logging in to an account, you will need to do this before receiving notifications.
Check Settings > Notifications to ensure that the app is configured for notifications.
If notifications do not appear only in the Notification Center, verify that the Notification Center setting for the app is enabled.
If you are still unable to receive notifications and you are using a Wi-Fi connection, verify that the network or firewall is not blocking access to port 5223.
