Setting camera target and using the pan tool moves everything except target
Hi,
I have a JavaScript which sets the camera target using the code below.
var setTarget = function(strNodeName) {
for (var intCounter = 0; intCounter !== scene.nodes.count; intCounter++) {
var node = scene.nodes.getByIndex(intCounter);
if (node.name.indexOf(strNodeName) === 0) {
var camera = scene.cameras.getByIndex(0);
camera.target = node;
This works great for the rotate and spin tool. But hen I use the pan tool, everything moves except the node that was set as target.
Why is this happening and how can I prevent this?
James, thank you very much for the VI, now i understand what you meant by initialising the shift registers. You're right about my text-based programming background, and seeing how you've implemented the case selection really helped. The removal of the mathscript modules does reduce lag quite a lot, too, and now everytihng works exactly as it should. I set the initial servo positions and rawx/rawy values, extended the error line the way you suggested, and added a division by two after the array summation, in order to get an average, rather than a near-double result.
I agree with you and 22v10 that slicing the image up into quadrants might have been a better idea to begin with. The 'center band' that is set in the current vi works quite well and i'll stick with it for now, since i won't have much more time to work on this project.
I avoided adding tilt for now because i thought it would only complicate things. Now that panning works, i've duplicated the method and adjusted it for tilt.
I'm also considering removing the Vision Assistant nodes, since for calibration purposes i need to go into it and create new templates from scratch every time, and this will only get more tedious as i start experimenting with more complex 'targets'. A more viable solution is presented here, where everything is set once the application is launched.
Please find attached an updated copy of the VI. It's a bit laggy, i'll continue working on it and updating.
James, thank you again for providing a working solution. I'd love to give you credit when the project's finished.

This was not a problem for me until Windows 8 now makes it so you HAVE to use high contrast theme to be able to change the background on windows explorer. Otherwise you have to accept it always being white. If there is a windows program that allowed me to change the windows colors like you used to be able to then I would not need to use the high contrast.
Note I have click on the Firefox button (Tools menu) and then click Options
Select the Content panel then Click the Colors... button.
I do have checkbox beside "Allow pages to choose their own colors, instead of my selections above" checked.
BUT Still
Windows somehow overrides this. This is bugging the hell out of me. How is it what windows has any control over Firefox's controls anyways? -
Smart guides and using the pen tool
This is concerning CS5 15.0.1, on 10.6.4.
If I am drawing a shape with the pen tool (bézier) and I turn on/off smart guides while at it, the pen tool looses the connection to the last point.
Who the heck @Adobe thought that would be helpful? Every time I have to reconnect to the last dot.
Anyone else here noticed that glitch?function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
FreeHand could do that some 10 Years ago!
FreeHand could do that 25 years ago—in fact, even before FreeHand existed. Unlike Illustrator, FreeHand provides three basic point types: Corner, Curve, and Connector. Connector Points ensure tangency between a curved and a straight segment. It's a feature of Fontographer, which was FreeHand's progenitor.
But that is far from the only basic superiority of FreeHand over Illustrator's hideous Bezier interface.

Just feeling my way into using a Time Capsule as the main networking device for two macbooks, two iPhones and occasional vistors including an iPad. Right now the basic ADSL router provides, internet conection, Firewal, DHCP and NAT. The Time Capsule provides WiFI and backup to the MacBooks. The MacBooks and iOS devices all use WiFI and a couple of media devices use ethernet (a hub is part of the network).
Would it be better (i.e. more effective in performance or management) to limit the router as much as possible so for instance turning off DHCP and NAT then reconfiguring the Time Capsule to do that - sort of part way to a situation where the router would be replaced by a modem? Or am I just wasting effort to no good purpose?There is no simple.. yes or no to your question.
Often modems cannot be bridged.. or if they can the TC does not have the ability to provide the correct services to connect.
What is the broadband type and what is the modem router you are talking about?
Generally the supplied modem is perfectly adequate to the speed capability of the service provided.
In some cases we do say bridge it.. eg alot of cable modem routers supplied here are very poor, Have terrible NAT tables and pathetic abilities.. so we encourage them to be bridged or replaced. Most DSL type modem routers seem to be ok.. and are easily replaced anyway.
Time Capsules are far from being giants in the router world btw.. they have absolute min of controls possible. Lots of good things might be supplied on your normal modem which are missing in the TC. eg QoS. Decent logging, NAT table connection lists.. along with all the other lists.
Overall the gain.. I think for most people will be small.. try it out.. that is the only way to know. -
Using the rotate tool and hand tool at the same time in CS6
When using the rotate tool, you used to be able to use the hand tool even when the Rotate dialogue box was up. Is there a way to get that back?
I make Mandalas (http://www.behance.net/gallery/Mandala/2700497) and work from the center out. This poster is 18"x24" so once I start to get to the outer edge, I'm zoomed into the center at 6400% so I can get my crosshairs as precise as I can, then enter a number (45 degrees, 20 degrees, etc.). Clicking Preview helps, but if you're zoomed in and the object is out of view, you have to guess where it's going. In CS5, you could press down the space bar and use the Hand Tool even while the dialog box was up. Is there a fix for this? (Sorry if this doesn't make sense...it's kind of hard to explain over a forum.)TBamber wrote:

CS5 on Windows 7.
I can use the hand tool while pressing the Space bar while another tool including the Rotate tool is current. But I can not use the Hand tool in anyway if I'm in the process of using the Rotate tool by holding down the mouse button or dragging with it.
While the Rotate dialog is displayed I can not do anything outside of it in any way.
I can use the scroll wheel on the mouse to scroll the view up or down vertically while using any of the tools including the Rotate tool but not when a tool dialog is open.
I'm curious if others experience different behavior on a Windows system . -

Cs3 curve adjustament layer , can i zoom and use the hand too ?
Hi
i have a question about cs3 , under xp
i add a curve adjustament layer ,-> curve dialog (window) open -> well i can zoom with the mouse wheel
but if i keep the space keyboard pressed , i can't use the hand tool
when i click the space keyboard , it works like the [ok] button , in short if like i click on ok and close the window
is there a tip to use the curve adjustament layer , zoom and use the hand tool
thanks
cheersThat's the behavior you would expect in general when using the space bar while a dialog is open in Windows, since the space bar is normally expected to operate the default button - [OK] in this case. Just for thoroughness I did reproduce the issue with Photoshop CS3 just now, just as you described. I don't believe there's any workaround.
This is likely one reason why Adobe implemented the new Adjustments Panel in Photoshop CS4 to replace that dialog entirely. In PS CS4 and newer you get the functionality you desire - that of having the space bar invoke the Panning feature, even though you may be changing the parameters of an Adjustment layer.

Using the Lasso Tool crashing Photoshop CC
Hi,
Looking for some help as to why Photoshop crashes at least once a day, sometimes more when using the basic Lasso Tool.
I'm using Photoshop CC, and it's completely up to date. I'm on Windows 8.1. I'm a freelance illustrator and use the lasso tool when doing all of my artwork. It crashes on any image I'm working, smaller stuff to larger files, from small amount of layers to over 200. I'll use the lasso, typically holding alt to use the polygonal option and I'll notice when clicking to close my shape, photoshop will completely stop working. I'll have to open the task manager and completely end the program. Crashes across the board from CMYK to RGB, in 8 bits.
Looking for some help / ideas. Please let me know if you need any other info, thanks.
KevinHi Chris,
I've updated the system driver on the wacom, which was released in March. I also tried the mouse and also seems to be up to date. Here's a shot of the task manager when freezes. Does that help at all?
I've just had a freeze 2 minutes ago. I've been waiting for it to happen, hoping the wacom driver might change. Apparently not. -
I am not sure how to use the mesh tool
it can be tricky! it's best to use with geometric shapes and not random figures that you create with the pen or brush tools.
so lets say you wanted to make an apple using a real picture for reference. first off, you'd place the picture of the real apple in the background. next, you would choose the circle tool to create a circle around the apple. then, you would use the mesh tool and press the center anchor to create a simple grid looking form onto the circle. grab the selection tool to move around the anchor points surrounding the apple to make a more accurate outline. after this step, it's easier to add more anchor points for the actual apple! all you must do is grab the pen tool and add more anchor points along the path and use the selection tool to move the anchor points around the apple; eventually it'll look somewhat like a 3D graph of an apple. important tip to remember, the less lines the better. but a few are okay.
so after you've graphed/mapped out your apple you're going to want to press the selection tool and use your eyedropper tool to get an accurate color of the spot/anchor you selected. the basic point of the mesh tool is to outline a picture,@ and with the eyedropper tool you can use the exact colors from the original picture you're working from. i learned this technique from class. here's my example it can be a really useful tool if it's what you're looking for. -
PS4 crashes when I use the crop tool
I have CS4 Design Standard and it is loaded on my IMAC and Powerbook. When I use PS4 on my imac and use the crop tool, it just hangs up and I have to shutdown and restart. However, it works perfectly on my powerbook. Any suggestions?
First, just press the Clear button in the tool's Options bar.
You may simply have some values or units in the Options bar fields which are trying to generate a ridiculously large image. -
Hairlines between shapes after using the merge tool (Pathfinder)
Hi all,
I have this complicated camouflage like design made of all sorts of shapes but only using 5 colours.
None of my elements have strokes.
I selected all, and used the merge tool in the pathfinder (because I need to provide the document without any shapes overlapping).
When you look close at the result you notice that there are white hairlines around every shapes.
It's really a gap because If I slide a red rectangle behind the artwork, it appears in the hairlines.
I read the other illustrator "hairlines" topics here but couldn't find a workaround to my problem.
Thank you all in advance!If I untick Preferences>General>Anti-Aliased Artwork?
The hairlines all magically disappear !
Does that mean that it was just a screen artefact and they will not print?
I had saved it as PDF but the lines where still showing in the PDF.
But in Acrobat Pro if I's uncheck the smooth line art, they would disappear.

photoshop cs6 error "could not use the type tool because the target channel is hidden. happens when im typing in photoshop, go to another layer and then come back. can't alter text at that point. i really need to get thsi figured out. thank you.
You may have answered my question. I AM using the 64bit version of Illustrator CS6. I had no idea there were bugs in it that affected paths copied and pasted from Illustrator to Photoshop.
A bit more about what I'm trying to accomplish... I'm trying to follow Deke's tutorial (http://www.deke.com/content/dekes-techniques-018-creating-a-3d-pie-chart) which is already difficult since so much has changed between CS5.5 and 6, but then on top of that, I keep getting errors!
So I created the pie chart exactly as he shows and copied and pasted into Photoshop exactly as he does. Before submitting this post, though, I tried drawing just two very simple triangle shapes, copying them both and pasting them into Photoshop as a shape layer. The shapes weren't overlapping, but they were a part of the same shape layer just like the pie chart tutorial.
Thanks for your help. If there is anything else I should try before just giving up because of the 64bit bugs, please let me know. -
I have been a proud owner of Apple products for many years. However, this problem is very frustrating! Any help will be appreciated. I used the migration tool to transfer the contents of my old MacBook Pro to my new shiny MacBook Pro Retina! After migration finished I tried to access my new MacBook Pro retina. However, when asking me to log in it refuses to accept the passwords from either the new MacBook or the old one! I do not have the option of using my Apple ID either.... Please help! Unfortunately, I am past my 90 day Apple Support!!
Restart holding down the CMD+R keys, launch Disk Utility and erase the HD, quit DU, and restore the OS. On first boot, use the Setup Assistant to do the migration. Details in Pondini's Setup New Mac guide.

How can I draw using the Brush tool and a touch screen?
I need to be able to use the touch screen on my Lenovo Yoga (running Windows 8) to draw using the Brush tool in Photoshop CS6. I'm able to do that in other programs, including Microsoft OneNote and Paint. For some reason, Photoshop will only interpret touching and dragging on the screen as an attempt to pan or scroll, even when the Brush tool is selected. I bought Photoshop - and it isn't cheap - specifically in order to draw using the touch screen, which I need to be able to do for my job. Is there some driver I can download to fix this problem, or some obscure setting I can change?
I would also like to note that Adobe's technical support line exhibits a degree of infuriating unreachability equalled only by the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles. When I called to ask for help with this problem, I was told the expected wait time was between 10 and 14 minutes. After waiting for 50 minutes, I gave up in disgust. Adobe's products are powerful, but what passes for customer service is an utter disgrace.There's gotta be a way but I just use gimp for touch drawing, save it off as a png, edit in ps or ai.
