Setting fixed background layout

I all.
I'm building my first Flash website in a 1280x800 px resolution, fixed top-centered layout. I have a 1920x1080 px bitmap set as my background. I did it in 1920x1080 px size, because I want the browser to display it (the background) acording to the user's monitor resolution. The main content though - buttons, images, animations, etc - are fixed (1280x800 px centered). So, how do I do this? I've been searching the web, but I only find instructions for liquid layout layouts and such, and I don't want liquid, just the background to adapt to the target monitor size.
thanx in advance.
Pedro

What software do you use ?  You better ask in the appropriate Flash / Flex / ActionScript forum.  (This is the Flash Player forum.)

    Can I make auto layout of Matrix Chart after setting fixed rows/columns ?
    I want to make Matrix Chart to auto layout to zooming out a chart of filter.
    Matrix Chart's layout is AUTO layout at creating.
    Matrix Chart layout can fix specfic rows / columns from layout toolbar.
    BUT fixed layout's Matrix Chart does not zoom a chart of filter.

    Hi Yoshihiro - at the moment if a specific number of row/columns has been set for small multiples the chart will maintain these proportions even after filtering.
    If the chart hasn't had a set row/column dimensions set it will automatically be re-laid out when filtered however.

  • How to have a box layout on a JDialog, with an image set as background

    Hi,
    I need to have a JDialog in which there is a background image set (I already did this part, but only with the default layout). I further need to add text to the lower part of the JDialog. (For this, I guess I need to have a box layout.). I am not able to do so, because if I do so, I wont be able to set image background to the entire JDialog. Please help me out with how to solve this issue?
    Thanks,
    Joby

    Hi jduprez,
    Thanks for the reply. I checked Rob Camick's blog. It gives a nice way to add an image to a panel (*master panel*) and to use it.
    I still have my problem open. The above solution gives panel that I can add to my JDialog. But on the bottom half of the image (as you said, BorderLayout.South), I need to add another structured set of components using a Border Layout again.!, ie, one more panel with a BorderLayout. So when I add
    this panel, to the master panel containing the image, then the image gets cut off, at that point. I tried using component.setOpaque(false) on my sub-panel, still it does not work. Any idea, how to achieve this...?
    Following is the code I have adapted.

    90% of the code you posted is not relevant to your question.
    If you want further help post a Short, Self Contained, Compilable and Executable, Example Program (SSCCE) that demonstrates the problem.
    And don't forget to use code tags when posting code.

    Or better yet, don't extend any gui component. This keeps things very clean. Don't extend a gui component unless you have no other choice.

  • How can I convert my web page from a fixed width layout to a fluid grid layout?

    I'm taking a web design class (I'm using Dreamweaver CS6, btw)  wherein the professor started us out building our websites in a fixed width layout but now I want to change my site into a fluid grid layout. My "site" so far is just one long page, and I've already designed it with fluid grid adjustments in mind (most things are centered  in the layout) so it shouldn't need excessive tweaking.
    Is there a way to duplicate the site folder that holds my first page, re-open a new document in fluid, then copy the code in and tweak the width parameters for the different layouts?
    Did I just answer my own question? Help - I am new at this!!
    Thanks all,
    KC

    A bit off-topic, but Osgood: have you ever used SASS or LESS? When you are building your own grid systems it can save you a tremendous amount of time, and it's a lot of fun.
    Take the following simple example - it generates all the 23 css classes automatically for a 12 grid system. And simply changing one variable allows you to create and calculate any number of columns!
    //variables
    $desktop: 1025px;
    $large-columns: 12;
    @media only screen and (min-width: $desktop) {
         //regular grid span classes
        @for $i from 1 through $large-columns {
            .span-large-#{$i} {
                width: percentage($i/$large-columns);
         // push classes
        @for $i from 1 through (($large-columns)-1) {
            .push-large-#{$i} {
                margin-left: percentage($i/$large-columns);
    No, not explored it yet, and may never....I don't know. I don't really make much money out of web design. It's becoming more and more difficult to find the desire to learn new techniques when the opportunities aren't really there to put them into practice on as regular basis as I would like.  I've got  a very good handle on css, php, html, jQuery - I'm not sure I want to add another layer at the moment, given I'm never quite sure how long I will continue to 'bang my head against the wall' . I'm getting to the stage where I keep asking myself do I really need the problems associated with learning new stuff to the point of being comfortable with it if the financial rewards at the end don't equate to the efforts of learning it.
    I don't really enjoy web development if truth is known. I come from a Graphic Design background which I much prefer but somehow got side tracked and pushed in this direction and there's no way back now, lol. Whilst I concede Web Development is much more exciting its also 100 times more complex/difficult and the skills needed are considerably more.
    Your example looks interesting and I should think I could pick it up reasonably easily given I work with php which uses variables on a similar basis.

    Yesterday, I changed lxdm to slim,and then everything went well,except urxvt.Though I think this should have nothing to do with the urxvt's problem.
    urxvt only has a white background while my setting is 0000/0000/0000/cccc,even I attempted to comment all options relating to colors,but it doesn't work.until I remove the .Xresources file, urxvt has a black background.

    To add to what sonoran posted above, you need to have xrdb load the settings in your ~/.Xresources.  When you use a DE, there are quite a few things that it might do for you depending on the existence (or absence) of a give configuration file.
    I have no idea what things are specific to each DE, but I know that the Slim login manager is extremely simple and lightweight and does very little (if anything) automagically for you.  A good example of automagic coming from some of the display manager part of things is the locale settings.  In particular, they implement their own ways of handling setting your keyboard layout and language.  So going if you were to go from GDM to Slim, you would suddenly have the stuff in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d honored, whereas in GDM, you would either have to use gconf or use setxkbmap at some point.

  • UITableView: set different background colors for header and the table

    I would like to set my background color for my UITableView to white and set my tableViewHeader backgroundColor to grayColor similar to the facebook app. When I bounce scroll my table so that you can see above the header, then currently it is white above the header view. I want that to be brown instead.
    In the facebook app, above the headerview, it is a blue color and below the table is a white color. If i try and set the UITableView backgroundColor to brown, then the top will be brown, but so will the bottom. Additionally, all of the unset cells will have a brown background instead of white.
    Any help with this?

    Fixed..

  • [svn] 2210: Fix for layout issue of AIR apps on mac when only width or height is

    Fix for layout issue of AIR apps on mac when only width or height is
    set on root WindowedApplication tag.
    Bugs: SDK-14643.
    QA: Yes, very much so.
    Reviewer: Ryan
    Ticket Links:

    Modified Paths:
    flex/sdk/branches/3.0.x/frameworks/projects/airframework/src/mx/core/WindowedApplication. as

    Updates:
    I've opened a bug with Adobe regarding this issue:
    http://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FP-4362
    Also, the Cancel operation on a FileReference causes the same issue to happen as does loading.  I really think it's an operating system focus issue.
    UPDATE:
    Looks like this has already been tracked and is scheduled to be fixed:

  • Fixed vertical layout for mobile

    Hi, I have done the design mobile site by using adobe muse.  I want to keep the fixed vertical layout, how can I set to disable the auto rotation funcation for mobile only?
    Thanks,
    Andy

    Hi
    I believe you want to restrict the orientation of site when opened in phone browser to vertical.
    With native Muse features we cannot stop orientation changing when user rotate its phone to landscape ,though can be done using custom code.
    View port helps to change the orientation of the site in device browser. Its not advisable to restrict users from using the orientation they want to use the site, but you can try the suggestions mentioned in the documents :
    http://stackoverflow.com/questions/10975387/mobile-site-force-landscape-only-no-auto-rotat e

  • Fixed Background for Website

    Hi,
    I'm currently making a website which need a fixed background, sort of like a patterned wallpaper. I need it to extend to any maximum adjustment of window browser. The background has gradient colors in it, so I can't make it repeatable. Can anyone help?
    I'm using Adobe Flash CS3, a newbie in web design and have really tried exploring but I can't seem to find the right script for it.
    Everytime I tried adjusting the window (I set it to 1024x768), it ended up to have white borders around.
    I created the file in an actionscript 2.0. Am I doing things wrongly?
    Please help..
    example of same webpage background concept:
    www.bambako.com (only mine created with flash)
    www.merekastudio.com

    that's css you put it in the head section of your html or if you have a external css file you can put it there.  In case you dont know about css and don't have a css script in your html the entire script would look like this.
    <style>
         body {margin:0; padding:0; overflow:auto;}
    </style>
    the overflow auto has nothing to do with the gutter but will elininate a vertical scrollbar in IE7 and maybe other versions of IE.

  • Fixed background

    Could you please look at my code and tell me what I need to do to get the fixed background to cover the whole page?
    Thank you

    Running your page through the W3C validator shows a lot of errors, but what's preventing your styles from working is an unclosed style defintion beginning on line 52.
    Change this:
    .linkz td table .home1 td {
    font-style: italic;
    body {
    body {
         background-image: url(images/variety/wave4.jpg);
         background-repeat: no-repeat;
         background-attachment:fixed;
         background-size: cover;
    To this:
    .linkz td table .home1 td {
         font-style: italic;
    body {
         background-image: url(images/variety/wave4.jpg);
         background-repeat: no-repeat;
         background-attachment:fixed;
         background-size: cover;

  • Fixed Background Help

    Guys,
    Im pretty new to Dreamweaver and am having some problems
    designing a website.
    I am wanting to have a fixed background and then a square box
    with my content in. I dont want the background to move when I
    scroll down the page, but I do want the box with my content to
    scroll.
    Any ideas how I can do this?
    Next question... how come when I design a page in
    Dreamweaver, when I view it in IE its positioned completely
    different? i.e. I centre a picture in Dreamweaver and when I view
    it in IE its in the top left hand corner etc its very random
    Thanks in advance

    > Out of curiosity, when making a web page... what
    size/dimensions do you
    > set
    > your page?
    To make your decision you need to have some ideas about the
    following
    issues -
    1. What is the primary target demographic for this site?
    2. What are the browsing habits of that demographic? Do they
    normally have
    their browser window maximized on the screen?
    3. If they usually have their browser maximized, what is the
    typical screen
    width?
    4. If they usually do NOT have their browser maximized, what
    is the MINIMUM
    screen width in that demographic.
    5. How do I want to build the page?
    a. Fixed width and left aligned?
    b. Fixed width and centering?
    c. Flexible to fill whatever width from left to right?
    d. Flexible (within limits) and left aligned?
    e. Flexible (within limits) and centering?
    As you can see, this decision is probably much more complex
    than you
    thought, and will require that you know quite a bit about
    your intended
    target visitor and their browsing habits.
    If you elect to go with 5a, or 5b, then your decision would
    be - 'what is
    the mimimum browser width I want to support without
    horizontal scrolling?'.
    Once you have determined that minimum supported width, all of
    your decisions
    are made. That's how wide you want your page to be.
    If you elect to go with 5c, then you just build your page
    within a flexible
    container (the simplest example - although an obsolet one -
    would be to use
    a 100% width table to hold the entire page). Be aware that
    pages with
    limited text content can look VERY sparse and empty on wide
    viewports when
    built in this way.
    If you elect to go with 5d, or 5e, then you would add this
    sophistication to
    your decision matrix -
    'what is the greatest width I want to allow the page and its
    contents to
    become?'
    In this case, you would use the CSS styles - 'min-width' and
    'max-width' on
    the primary page container. Just so you'll know, although
    these styles are
    well supported *now*, earlier versions of IE (and some other
    browsers) will
    not support them so reliably.
    So - which is it? 8)

  • Fixed background for all resolutions

    Hi
    I want to put a fixed background on my homepage using bg
    image in page properties in DW. No problem so far but what size do
    I make the image so that it fills the screen whether at 800x600 or
    1600x1200? I know tables have to be set to dimensions in precentage
    but how do I get to see the whole image whatever the screen
    resolution?
    Many thanks
    t

    Resolution is not the consideration. What would you do on my
    760px wide
    viewport on my 1280x1024 screen?
    Give it up. It's chasing a will-o-the-wisp. Besides,
    backgrounds don't
    stretch, they tile.
