Setting Java Runtime Parameters from HTML

I am launching a java program from HTML, using java plugin 142_08, and I need to set -xms and -xmx in the java plugin from the HTML that is launching the program. Is this possible to do? It is used by many various people, so it won't be easy to go into everyones computer and manually set these params.
Any ideas?

There will soon be a solution available for this problem. There is an early access program for the "6uN" consumer-focused release of Java at http://jdk6.dev.java.net/6uNea.html . Build 08, which should be out in a few days, will contain as an option a new implementation of the Java Plug-In which supports what you want. You will need to go into the Java Control Panel, Advanced Tab, Java Plug-in node, and enable it, then exit, to turn on the new plug-in. At that point you will be able to write in your applet tag
<param name="java_arguments" value="-Xmx128m"></param> for example. It has the same notion of "secure" command-line arguments as Java Web Start; using "non-secure" command line arguments requires a signed applet, but unsigned applets can utilize secure command line arguments and system properties. More documentation will be available on the new Java Plug-In soon.

  • How to set plug-in Java Runtime parameters on JRE setup command line

    Hi all:
    I need to install JRE and set the Java Runtime Parameters -Xmx
    by command line ..
    I mean I don't want enter Control panel and set this parameter manually in Java Runtime Parameters textBox..
    thanx.
    Best regards

    Documentation for controlling the installation is sadly lacking in detail. This is the best I have seen for the Windows environment:
    http://java.com/en/download/help/silent_install.xml
    But, there are numerous other PROPERTY variables that are not discussed. Particularly annoying is the addition of yet another JavaUpdate item with the release of 1.5.0_05. If you can get more information, please post a link to it here.

    Thanks in Advance for the ideas,
    Antonio.

    Hi Abdul,
    The problem is my client want one solution where i have one page simple page Html and one application java standalone. This application runs in one machine, but we don't have web server. So the question is: Is possible without web server i can get the parameters values that is inside the html page from java application. I remember you that the application java is one .jar that run's with one command line from crontab "java -jar teste.jar".

  • Java runtime parameters

    Hi,
    Does anyone know how to programmatically set the java-runtime-parameters?
    I need to set them to: "-classpath c:\jar\test.jar"
    My goal is to access test.jar thru the ActiveX Bridge, and test.jar is not inside the "applet" folder. Note: ActiveX bridge uses the java plug-in which has a default path to the applet folder, I need to programmatically set a java-runtime-parameter "-classpath" to c:\jar\test.jar...
    (I know that you can set the java-runtime-parameters thru control panel - java plug-in, but this will not work for what I am doing, I need to do it on the fly programmatically).
    Gene.

    After Java VM is launched, I don't think it is possible to change the classpath onfly. If you goal is to load test.jar on fly, you can always rely on classloader to do it. You can make your own classloader and let it to download and define the class you need.

  • Setting JRE Runtime parameters at login

    I manage a domain with 140 users and they need to have java runtime parameters set to use their web applications. Is there a way, via a script, to set the runtime parameters for users? Currently using JRE 6u5 i586

    Yes, Rick, it seems to be a bug on MII.
    Anyway, we'll hard code user and password...
    Thanks a lot!

  • Java Runtime Parameters patch

    I currently have a signed applet which uses more than 96MB. To solve this obstacle I want to increase the memory heap. Is there any way, from a signed applet, to alter the Java Runtime Parameters? Ofcourse the user can alter the parameters but I want to take that trouble out of his hands. I am hoping to run a small "patch-applet" which adds the "-Xmx xxx" parameter to the JRE.

  • Live view doesn't correctly pass URL parameters from HTML docs?

    Running into something that I wonder if anyone else has seen.  I've created a site in DW CS5 with a local testing server (XAMPP on Win7), and if I use LiveView to view an HTML page that has a link to a PHP page that includes a URL parameter, the parameter shows up in the LiveView address bar, but the page doesn't seem to use it (trying to display an image where the file is built using $_GET to retrieve the parameter).  The same HTML page, displayed in a browser, works.  And if I then save the HTML page as a PHP page in DW, identical code, LiveView works.  Sure looks like LiveView will does not properly handle URL parameters from HTML documents...

    Sorry if I wasn't clear... the navigation works correctly; I get to the page I'm tyring to get to.  One of the things that page should do is display an image, the I use a URL parameter to build the image file name to retrieve.  The link in the first page is something like <a href="gallery.php?pg=1">.  Works fine if the first page (the one I'm navigating from) is a PHP page, doesn't work (with the same code which is only HTML) if the page is an HTML page.

  • Setting java runtime option through java program

    I want to set java runtime options(like -verbose, -ea) through java program instead of setting them through command promt. (Like, I can set -D options through System.setProperty() method). Is there any way out?

    I want to set java runtime options(like -verbose,
    -ea) through java program instead of setting them
    through command promt. (Like, I can set -D options
    through System.setProperty() method). Is there any
    way out?I don't think you can (at least not for the Sun JVM).
    The command-line options for the JVM are used when the
    JVM is created, which precedes the loading of the class
    files representing your application. At that time it is too
    late to set the start-up options for the JVM which is already
    up and running.

  • Java Runtime parameters- setting trace/log levels and enabling by default

    Hi,
    I have a user reporting that a Java app that I support is unexpectedly quitting, and our developers are having trouble tracking down exactly what's causing the problem.
    I'm trying to enable the maximum possible logging/tracing for this user, but I don't want to have to rely on them remembering to hit '5' on the console window to enable tracing on everything. Having read through the runtime documentation, I have added the following to my JRE runtime parameters:
    -Xdebug  -Djavaplugin.trace=true -Djavaplugin.trace.option=basic|net|security|ext|liveconnect -Djavaplugin.outputfiles.overwrite=falseHowever, I still get nothing in the log file until I manually hit '5' on the Java console, then everything I do after that gets added to the log.
    Does anyone know how can I get the maximum logging/tracing enabled by default as soon as the JRE is loaded?

    >>
    -Xdebug  -Djavaplugin.trace=true-Djavaplugin.trace.option=basic|net|security|ext|livec
    onnect
    -Djavaplugin.outputfiles.overwrite=false
    One problem is that -Djavaplugin.trace.option=basic
    OR net etc ... pick one of the options which are
    separated with pipe symbols or use "all" without
    quotes.
    I'm having a similar problem with Java 6 - it seem
    that nothing I put in the runtime parameters takes
    effect. I had to edit
    /home/USERNAME/.java/deployment/deployment.properties
    and add deployment.trace=true.On second thought, I could be wrong about the trace options. I really don't know if you can combine options but I did see "all" somewhere.

  • JRE 1.4.2 Java Runtime Parameters

    Does anyone happen to know where/how these settings are saved on a Windows OS? I'd like to write a program to automatically set this on client machines to make deployment easier as we need to set the -Xmx for each user. I've searched the registry and all files on my machine and turned up nothing. Thanks for any help/suggestions you might have.

    The settings are saved in a file named
    <windows
    folder>\.java\properties<version>e.g.
    C:\WINDOWS\.java\properties141_02. The keyname
    is javaplugin.jre.params=<runtime params>.You
    can see this directly, if you change the runtime
    parameters in the Java plugin configuration dialog.
    What version of Windows are you running and what JRE
    version..only b/c it would be helpful to know if these
    settings are saved in different locations depending on
    versions. On Win2K Pro & XP Pro w/ JRE 1.4.2 the
    settings are in the location I specified in my last
    post. Thanks!Sorry, I only checked 1.4.1
    My (wrong) idea was, that it wouldn't change frome 1.4.1 to 1.4.2

  • Pass Checkbox Parameters from HTML Form to a stored procedure

    I'm still looking for a solution to my forms problem. FYI, I'm not using Applications Express to build my application--I'm using straight PL/SQL. I need to know how to pass checkbox parameters from my Web form. I'm allowing folks to select one or more checkboxes on a form that will call a delete function to delete the selected records. What I read in Oracle's "Database Application Developer's Guide - Fundamentals" isn't helpful to me. If someone would point me to some examples, maybe I could see what I'm doing wrong. Here's what was written in "Database Application Developer's Guide - Fundamentals":
    All the checkboxes with the same NAME attribute make up a checkbox group. If none of the checkboxes in a group is checked, the stored procedure receives a null value for the corresponding parameter.
    If one checkbox in a group is checked, the stored procedure receives a single VARCHAR2 parameter.
    If more than one checkbox in a group is checked, the stored procedure receives a parameter with the PL/SQL type TABLE OF VARCHAR2. You must declare a type like this, or use a predefined one like OWA_UTIL.IDENT_ARR. To retrieve the values, use a loop:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE handle_checkboxes ( checkboxes owa_util.ident_arr )
    AS
    BEGIN
    FOR i IN 1..checkboxes.count
    LOOP
    htp.print('&lt;p&gt;Checkbox value: ' || checkboxes(i));
    END LOOP;
    END;
    SHOW ERRORS;

    I'm not sure I understand what your issue is.
    If your web form has the following checkboxes defined all with the same name:
    <input type="checkbox" name="attrib" value="1">one</input>
    <input type="checkbox" name="attrib" value="2">two</input>
    <input type="checkbox" name="attrib" value="3">three</input>Then you would create and register a procedure to handle the form submission that has a parameter with the name attrib of type owa_util.ident_arr e.g.:
    create or replace procedure handle_form(attrib owa_util.ident_arr) as
      iter number;
    begin
      for iter in attrib.first .. attrib.last loop
        -- do something with attrib(iter)
      end loop;
    end;
    /Now the one problem with this handler (or any form handler for that matter) is that if the user selects none of the check boxes, or no value for any of the expected parameters, the handler would be called with some parameters missing or with out any parameters passed to it, and the call will error out.
    To get around that you need to provide default values for all the parameters passed to your handler including the ident_arr parameters, however with ident_arr parameters that's difficult to do with standalone procedures. If you place your procedure in a package you can define package level variables of the appropriate types that can be used as default values:
    create or replace package my_web as
      empty_arr owa_util.ident_arr;
      procedure handle_form(attrib owa_util.ident_arr := empty_arr);
    end my_web;
    create or replace package body my_web as
      procedure handle_form(attrib owa_util.ident_arr := empty_arr) as
        iter number;
      begin
        for iter in attrib.first .. attrib.last loop
          -- do something with attrib(iter)
        end loop;
      end;
    end my_web;
    /now when you hit the situation where the user doesn't select any check boxes, the call to handle_form won't err out due to missing parameters, and the empty_arr won't have any elements to iterate over so the loop in the procedure body will be fine and you will be able to retrieve each selected check box value from the attrib array when you iterate over it.

  • Java Runtime parameters at System tab

    Did install Java Runtime 1.6.0.18 silently, for many workstations, but after install I checked "Control Panel/Java". The "System" tab i "Java Runtime Environment Settings" are disabled, and can not be revised. How can System tab be enabled? (User tab is OK)

    I think this has been discussed previously in a thread on this site.

  • Problem with passing parameters from HTML

    Im unsure as to where to turn next with this problem. What is making it all the more infuriating is that I have had this code working previously and now cant for the life of me figure out how I did it.
    What Im trying to do is I have a HTML page with two buttons on, one called "Submit Application" and the other "Submit Resource" and when I click on one I want a JSP page to be called and a certain piece of SQL to be executed, likewise when I click on the other "Submit Application" button I want a separate bit of SQL to be executed. (I know in this example both bits of SQL are identical but that is just while I get the functionality correct).
    Whats happening is that the first bit of SQL will execute if I click the "Submit Resource" button, however when I click the "Submit Application"
    button I get a "Error 500:" displayed. Im at the end of my tether as to what to do next and as I say it makes it all the more infuriating in that I had it working before. So any help would be greatly appriciated.
    The code is as follows, I have highlighted the two IF statements :-

    You make your comparisons like this:
    if (!Subapp.equals (null))
    Well, what happens if Subapp IS equal to null. The .equals method call will be called from a NULL and you will get a NullPointerException.
    When testing for null you do:
    if (Subapp == null) (or if (Subapp != null)
    This is okay when dealing objects even with the mantra of 'don't use == to compare objects, because what you are really testing is if the reference points anywhere, and == will compare the reference.
    Also, next time you post, make sure to use the [code] tags as described in the [Formatting Help] link. It will make it easier to read.
    Also, you should try to remove the SQL from the JSP. Move it into a Servlet which builds a List that forwards to another JSP for display, or use a bean. Using java classes like Servlets and JavaBeans makes it easier to debug, and makes your JSP code easier to manage.

  • Setting Java class parameters for a JSP page

    Hi,
    I have a Java class that has a reference to a Session Id. I want to call a JSP from the class and set the session id to a String variable in the JSP. I am using a URL class to call the JSP. After the actual URL is passed to the URL constructor, I am appending the "?m_sessionId=e_session Id" at the end of the URL. In my JSP, I have the m_sessionId String parameter that i want to set e_sessionId to. What should i do in my JSP to set this? Any answers will be very helpful and I'd like to offer many thanks in advance
      public void loadSessionStuff(String sessionID){
       String e_sessionId = URLEncode.encode(sessionID);
       URL url = new URL("http://localhost:9000/MyJSP.jsp?m_sessionId="+e_sessionId);
       .....MyJSP.jsp looks something like this
       <%!
          String m_sessionId;
          public void setSessionId(){
           m_sessionid = request.getParameter("e_sessionId");
           public String getSessionId(){
               return m_sessionId;
            other stuff....
        %>Is this the correct way to do things. It's not working.

    R

    Hi Rahul,
    Yeah, i got that resolved. Do you know how i can get the thing in reverse gear. What i mean is i can successfully call and get the JSP to do things for me from my Java bean. What about sending stuff back to my bean?
    I want to send the List back to my calling class so i can work with it.
    Thanks
    Regards

                             URLConnection urlConn = url.openConnection();
