Setting java runtime option through java program

I want to set java runtime options(like -verbose,
-ea) through java program instead of setting them
through command promt. (Like, I can set -D options
through System.setProperty() method). Is there any
way out?I don't think you can (at least not for the Sun JVM).
The command-line options for the JVM are used when the
JVM is created, which precedes the loading of the class
files representing your application. At that time it is too
late to set the start-up options for the JVM which is already
up and running.

if you start the program with a -Xmx512m flag, the virtual machine gets half a gigabyte of memory to use (or that's the max it's allowed to use). All things run in the same virtual machine will have the same limit, third party tools run in the same virtual machine can't "not care about this" unless they're throwing OOMs themselves for some stupid reason.

Java Runtime.exec running java problem

Hi, I have a simple server application, which I would like to run in the background. The following line works for me:
Runtime.getRuntime().exec("cmd /c start java -jar ..\\server\\server.jar -Dlog4j.configuration=file:src\\test\\resources\\log4j.properties -filename src\\test\\resources\\server.properties");But it displays the cmd window and I am unable to destroy it. So I would like to use

That means, it starts some java process in the background, but my client fails to communicate (i dont know whether the server doesnt respond or the client fails to send the message, but still, with the cmd /c start it works). So why is that?
A related question. How do I end the process? It is a server that "doesn't end". So I have to kill it and I would assume, that running the java only command would be capable to be destroyed, but with the cmd I have no luck there. I have already tried full paths and the overload of exec with String[] params.

One reason why your server doesn't run is that it might be writing stuff to stdout (a.k.a System.out). And if your process doesn't read the newly created process' stdout, then that other process will block until something is read (which will be never).
Read all of the pages of that article and follow its suggestions.

Typical problem - Will Java Runtime options help me ?

We are using JInitiator to launch our application.When launching, this application downloads the ".JAR" files which are in server .I'm able to get the handle of the application and access all the Methods and properties from Visual Basic 6.0. But the problem is that I'm able to call methods which accepts only Integer or String as arguments.
I'm unable to call the methods which has argument type as Boolean [ Ex : Win.setVisible( Boolean b) ]. I tried passing all types of VB variables ,But I get "Type Mismatch Error" . I found an application which is similar to mine that uses "-Xbootclasspath" , "-Xrunmicsupp" , "MIC_CLASSES" & "_classload_hook" options to control Java applications by overriding some classes.
I created a new class with the same name but which has an extra function to accept string as a parameter [ Win.setVisible( String b) ] that enables me to call from VB. I want to Override my application's class with my class file which is in my local system. I want to override it because I'm supposed to change the class file in the server.
Is it possible to do my task using " java -Xbootclasspath" or something similar to that ? If so, Please tell me the way to do this. Please point me to some sites where in i can find the details about the above options that which the application similar to mine is using. Please help me,I will be very thankful to you guys.Hope to see your replies soon.

^You really need to start to understand what you are doing. Look at the error, it even points to what the error is. Look at where this bracket appears in your code and think to yourself "Should that be there or should it be something else" Once you fix that, the other errors will probably disappear.

Also I tried instaling through installer but it gave same error with null in path. Can anyone help?

It has support for Java WebStart, a possibility to distribute applications through the internet.
If you create an own java application, you sell this app to end-users.
Possibly they have to install a JRE first from java.sun.com.
Linux, MacOS, Solaris come with a JRE preinstalled, many high-end distributions also.
In the development kit for the java programmer, there is more: java compiler, optional packages,
java documentation etcetera.
The JRE is sufficient for most things.

How to compile dunamically genrated java files through java program?

Hi, I have a requirement where i generate java files from WSDL dynamically using wsdl2java jaxbri. I need to compile these files dynamically on the fly and jar it. Everything should happen through java program. Bcos everything is dynamic here, no information is known (like dir, file names ...) until the runtime. Everything is user fed.
the directories may contain other directories with java files. its recursive
i tried com.sun.tools.javac.Main.. but either its not scaling to my needs or i donno how to wok with this.
is there any option to compile the java files as they are created thru JAXBRI (wsdl2java)?
any help is appreciated..

as bcos the the java files have inter-dependencies they have to be compiled as a bunch something like (java *.java). I donno how to do this in javac.Main tool
Once all these files are compiled i need to create a jar out of them

How to override runtime parameters of Java programs in web browser windows?

There's a Java based program that is accessed through a web browser. The program somehow sets its own runtime parameters. However, those parameters don't always work well for running the program on every computer. Is there a way to override the runtime parameters that the program would normally set with my own parameters? I was expecting the Java Control Panel applet to be the place to set my own runtime parameters but the last time I checked that didn't work with this program.

Want to access RESTful Services through Java Program

We are trying to access RESTful Services exposed by Oracle database cloud through our Java code, with authentication enabled for a particular user.
Till now, we have completed below steps:
1) We have a working account with Oracle database cloud (Username – xxx.xxx)
2) We log in using the credentials for above account, and navigate to Oracle Apex ? SQL Workshop ? RESTful Services
3) We create a new “RESTful Service Module” by filling out the details as below:
     Name:                                  SampleTest
     URI Prefix:                            test
     URI Template:                       /getallemp
     Pagination Size:                    25 (kept to default)
     Required Privilege:                 TestGroupPrivilege
     Resource Handler Details:
                Method:              GET
                Source Type:      Query
                Format:               JSON
                Source:               select * from emp
After creating the above module and testing it, it works fine and the data is retrieved in JSON successfully.
The resulting URL for above RESTful Service Module is: https://<HOST_URL>/apex/test/getallemp
Note that “TestGroupPrivilege” is a privilege assigned to the user group “RESTful Services” and the user “xxx.xxx” is a member of “RESTful Services” user group.
4) We are unable to call the RESTful services from Java program. We are passing username and password in request header as basic authentication. But, we are getting: Error 500--Internal Server Error
5) If we change the “Required Privilege” to default i.e. no privileges present on the module, we can get the response through Java code and everything works perfectly fine.
Please suggest us in: How to access RESTful Services through Java code by passing user credentials in HTTP header for authentication. Also let us know if we have to do any settings through Apex, in case we are missing any.

- When we are logging in to Oracle cloud on browser and execute the Oracle cloud RESTful service in another tab of same browser, we are able to get the result. But when executed the same RESTful service from a different browser or java program we get internal server error.
- After investigation, we found that when user logs in to oracle database cloud, a cookie is set in browser with name s “OAMAuthnCookie_cstest-domo.db.us1.oraclecloudapps.com:443” and value as some random token. This cookie is passed in the subsequent requests to the RESTful Service calls when using same browser and as a result, we are able to get the results
- In the Java program, we copied the same cookie with random token in the HTTP Request header and we got the proper response from REST APIs.
- It seems that this cookie is created by an Oracle Middleware tool/server called as OAM – Oracle Accounts Manager, which sends the authentication token after successful authentication and creates the cookie.
- We found that the cookie that OAM creates on authentication is exactly in the same format i.e. ‘OAMAuthnCookie_cstest-domo.db.us1.oraclecloudapps.com:443’. Can anyone please suggest:
1.     How to provide authentication to Oracle Cloud REST APIs from java program?
2.     How to pass the username and password in Java code to OAM (or how to communicate with OAM using Java) so that we can receive the unique token from OAM. We can use the token in the further requests? 3.     Also in Oracle cloud white papers , it is mentioned that they support OAuth2.0. But we didn’t find any URLs for same. Can anyone please confirm?

We tried to connect to Oracle Cloud Database using the way you suggested above, but unfortunately it is not working as well.
Can you let us know the authentication process with Oracle Cloud Database? We found in documentation that it uses OAM (Oracle Access Manager) for authentication. Can you tell us a bit about that? That will be extremely helpful.

Invoke exe through java code(using java.lang.Runtime)

Iam trying to invoke an exe from java code.If i give the complete path for that exe it is running fine .But if i set the environment variable and directly execute the exe through command prompt it iss running fine , but it fails to run when i do the same using java code i.e. java.lang.Runtime.exec function

does not need to be escaped.'
It's not even escaping. It's just doubling up. If that works, I'd bet "C://///test///////test.exe" does also.
