Setting mouse cursor from script (JS, CS2, CS3)

I'm working on scripts for Mac users. What I'd like to know is if there is a way to change the mouse pointer from within a script. Can one do this?
The reason I need to do this is that when a script runs the cursor changes to the spinning beach ball. I display a dialog asking for information and may users think the script has hung InDesign because of the beach ball. People also don't know where the hotspot is on the beach ball so it's hard to click things accurately.
Any tips?

I have often noticed that spinning beachball and found it distasteful when working with a dialog, but there's not much choice, I'm afraid. ScriptUI might be a way out in CS3, but not in CS2. If you want the same script to work in both, then I think you're stuck with the beachball.

  • How can i set mouse cursor location in a vi at a particular control button

    If there are many string controls on a vi front panel,I want to set my cursor at a particular string control.
    Whenever i will give an input ,It should be typed in that string control only.
    How can I do that ?
    Solved!

    Hi,
    there is a property node which called Key focus, you can use it for the string you want to be enabled.
    when you run the vi, the curser goes to the selected string control
    check the attached vi.

  • How can I get the mouse cursor from acrobat reader to use in other windows programs?

    I like the pointer used in Adobe's Acrobat Reader and would like to use it as my regular mouse pointer. A friend and I were able to do it years ago, but I can't now. I am using Windows XP Home Edition.

  • Keep mouse cursor in applet box

    Hi,
    I could really use some help with this one. I need to prevent my mouse cursor from being able to leave the applet box. I have treid doing this with final int's setting the limit for the max and min range of mouse movement but no joy. Please help.....I'm just a beginner!!

    I dont know anything about JNI yet but I will take a look though. I also think I need to explain again cos I really said it all wrong. What I meant was, I'm trying to create a situation where my existing applet which has a small box within it that takes char arguments and displays one char at a time, and can move it around the applet box with the cursor keys; can not go outside of the applet box. I am now almost there I think, I have just missed something out somewhere.
    Sorry for my lack of clarity, I ought to learn english first I think...

  • IDCS5 Win - changing mouse cursor

    At times I have code that processes a lot of data in ways that are not amenable to progress bars (for example, saving a single, large file to disk).  During those times I would like to change the cursor from its standard arrow to another standard such as an hourglass.  I see lots of general documentation on changing cursors that are specially made, but nothing that describes the process for changing from one standard cursor shape to another.  Nor is there any sample code/snippets that demonstrate the procedure, as far as I could find.  Does anyone have a suggestion where to look or what boss to use to change a mouse cursor from one icon to another?
    TIA!
    John

    I took a quick look at the header file and it all seems waay too simple.  Are you sure you're talking InDesign here? (grin).
    Thanks Dirk.  This is what I was looking for.

  • Stop the cursor from leaving the frame/panel?

    Im making a simple target game where you shoot targets with the mouse. What I'd like to do is stop the mouse cursor from leaving the panel/frame. I've tried moving the cursor there with the Robot class, but 1) it doesnt lock it directly to the edge, 2) it doesnt stop at the top edge and left edge, 3) the bottom edge results in the cursor being placed in the wrong place and finally, 4) if u move the cursor fast enough it breaks out anyway :(
    Hope someone can help,
    Thanx.

    Wow nice responses. I have two questions:
    1) What is native code?Write the code to capture the mouse in C/C++ (Windows supports capturing the mouse cursor - dunno about linux or solaris), then write a JNI wrapper function so you can call it from within Java.
    >
    2) Is it difficult to make it full screen? I was
    thinking of doing that but the thought of rescaling
    everything (i.e. fonts, images etc) made me think
    otherwise.Fullscreen is easy, simply graphicsDevice.setFullscreenWindow(window);
    Once in fullscreen, you can change the resolution to whatever you like (limited to what is supported by the gfx card ofcourse :p), so you shouldn't have to worry about rescaling gfx 2much.

  • Create Cursor from File with big mouse cursor

    Hi All,
    I'd like to change the mouse cursor to a picture (.cur file) and back to normal again.
    With the LabView vi "Create Cursor from File" and "set cursor" VIs it works, but the cursor is limited to 16x16 pixels (it will be shrinked if I load a biger .cur file).
    Alternatively I tried to use the windows api to set the cursor (according to the example in Thread ) .
    Setting the cursor to a biger size works now, but I'm not able to set the cursor back to normal again.
    It seems to me, that the labview behaviour is overuled by the windows api.
    Soes somebody know how to store the current cursor behaviour and reset it after I changed the cursor?
    thank you

    Hi Mario,
    I attached you an example which worked the way you want, I guess. It's saved with LabVIEW 8.6. Copy the coursor file cross_i.cur to a location you want and change the path to that location or copy it to C: and leave the path in the path control.
    Regards.

  • Set Busy cursor doesn't change until mouse is moved

    Hello,
    When I use the "Set Busy.vi" to control mouse cursor appearance, it doesn't actually change until the pointer is moved. Similarly, the "Unset Busy.vi" doesn't change appearance until the mouse is moved. Is there a way to fix this?
    Thanks,
    -Dave

    Hi Dave,
    I've tried this and it seems to work okay for me... do you have any example code you can post? Which version of LabView are you using?

  • Why does the mouse cursor move to away from the currrent application without the mouse being moved

    the mouse cursor moves away from the current application without the mouse having been moved - this started with the new version - re-installing Firefox makes the problem go away for a short period - re-installing is not a solution
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == a few days after installing 3.6.3

    Hello Jim.
    It's probably one of three things:
    #your mouse is getting old (this behavior is common in old optical mouses);
    #you have software that is making your mouse cursor behave unexpectedly (I know of an option in Windows that will automatically move your mouse to windows buttons...);
    #or you may be having a problem with some extension or plugin that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?

  • Newbe Question: Setting a cursor image from a source file

    I have a panel that is dynamiclly loaded with images from files. I wanted to set the cursor to the image, originally I was going to load a sprite with the image and have it follow the cursor but I figured that it might be better using the CursorManager. I've used the cursormanager with a image that is embed as a class but I'm having a problem doing it from the spark image object. Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Bubba

    Ok guys - managed to solve my problem - used the following code:
    try {
    FileReader file = new FileReader("C:/wherever ya put your file");
    BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(file);
    String line;
    while((line = in.readLine()) != null) {
    groupMonth = line;
    in.close();
    }catch (Exception e) {}
    I then used the setText() function to assign the value to the JLabel.
    All is well :P
    Chuck
    P.S Thanks for the pointer it certainly helped.

  • Display pattern for DateTimeField ignored when setting value from script

    Hello,
    I have a DateTimeField with Data pattern date{DD.MM.YYYY} and Display pattern date{MMMM}, so it displays its default value "21.05.2011" as "May". Now I'm setting its value from the other field's initialize event:
    if (this.rawValue) {
        data.Subform_Footer2.DateTimeField1.rawValue = this.rawValue.match(/\d+\.\d+\.\d+/)[0];
    Assuming this.rawValue contains text "21.04.2011", the DateTimeField displays "21.04.2011" in preview instead of "April" as specified in Display pattern.

    Hi,
    To me it looks like you are passing a string to the date field, rather than a date.
    Instead of trying to abstract the month manually in the script, why not pass the whole date through "21.04.2011" and leave the display pattern display the month.

  • Change mouse cursor appearence in script

    Is it possible to change the appearance of the mouse cursor in a script?
    A couple of the scripts I've created takes a little time to execute, so I'd like to change the cursor to the hourglass while waiting for the script to finish (and then change it back to normal at the end of the script).
    Are the other ways of letting the user know that a little patience is required?

    Hi Salte,
    The following commands show a progress display in the status bar:
    Call AutoLoopInit()
    Call Pause(10) 'Replace this line by your time-consuming task
    Call LoopDeInit()
    Call Pause(5) 'Just to see what happens when the script stops
    In the user dialog boxes you could use the method BeginWaitCursor to display the mouse cursor as an hourglass.
    Hope this helps,
    Ralf
