Setting MTU why Not Persistent

I have had ongoing problems with sending email on all macs in our household (One desktop with OS 10.4.11; three macbooks with 10.5)I adjusted the MTU on Terminal to 1600 and I was briefly able to send. On start up settings reverted to 1500 (discussion article stated setting is not persistent and must be re set on every start up). My question is two-fold: I am now unable to get Terminal to accept my password-nothing types in -why and how to resolveand; is there any way to set MTU to desired MTU on start up similar to following article for OS 10.2? http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107474
Thank you

??
1500 is the largest possible value. You can't use a value higher than that. If you entered a value of 1600 in the terminal you were probably using a value of 100.
Usually people suffering from problems caused by MTU find relief using values of 1490 or even 1492.

  • Calendar:  Why not allow freedom to set alerts on any date/time?

    Hypothetically speaking...
    A man's wedding anniversary is every July 29th, however his memory has failed to prepare himself for the date appropriately for the last few years.
    He recently added this date to his Iphone Calendar app, however it only allows him to alert the event the maximum of 2 days before. Why not allow the freedom to set alerts weeks in advance? Or perhaps allow alerts to be provided at any date/time you feel necessary?
    I feel this scenario, and many varieties of others would benefit to the availability of this feature within the Calendar app.
    I also have one additional recommendation for the app. If an event is considered an ALL DAY event and an alert is set as a reminder, this alert will go off at midnight since it 'technically' is the beginning of the day. Quite annoying in my opinion. Lets also have the availability to set the alert notification time for ALL DAY events.
    I look forward to Apple recognizing these innovative ideas and providing these additions to their next upgrade! THANKS!

    I agree completely that this sort of freedom is needed.

  • Set up home sharing between macbook pro and desktop pc. tried to sync music in library but ipod is not syncing the library. why not?

    I set up homesharing between macbook pro and desktop pc.  I have attempted to sync songs on my mac and pc, but the ipod will not sync the full library.  why not?

    Hey harold WD!
    You will want to consolidate your entire library onto one computer using Home Sharing in order to sync all of these items onto your iPod. Use the following article to help you accomplish this:

  • I set up photo stream on my pc but it only brought the last 25 pictues over why not the rest

    I setup photo stream on icloud on my pc and it only broght over last 25 pictures from my ipad. why not the rest?

    an addendum. I went into system preferences - icloud and unticked then ticked the photostream box. Then lo and behold the same spam pictures have reappeared. with my christmas photos at the end. So it looks like my Photostream is hosting the spam and I cant get rid of it. I'm too scared to go to icloud and advanced setting reset my photostream as I am scared of losing my family photos.

    It's likely that one of your login items is causing the problem. Select the Login Items tab in the Users & Groups pane of System Preferences. Delete any items that you don't recognize.

  • User profile images not persisting after log off on Server 2012 R2 RDS Session Hosts

    Hi,
    We have a 2012 R2 remote desktop deployment, with two session collections, a gateway server, and connection broker.
    We have set these session collections to use centralised user profile disks.
    What I am having an issue with, is that when a user sets their profile image through the server they have logged on to (I have the desktop experience pack installed so they are able to do this), they can see the user tile has been set with that image in
    settings and also on the start menu, but as soon as they log off the server and back on, their profile image has been reset to the default blank image.
    I have checked all of my group policy options, and cannot find any settings that could be impacting this.
    Does anyone have any ideas why these images are not persisting for users or admins?
    Thanks, Eds

    Please check that the user is not getting a temporary profile each time he logs in. Also, make sure that the RDP client is properly configured to display the Wallpaper: http://www.webapper.com/blog/index.php/2007/10/18/enabling-desktop-wallpaper-on-remote-desktop-terminal-services/

  • How to set properties programmatically and persist

    I have several control arrays that I set the properties for programatically from a file (min, max, label, etc.).  If there was a way to make these values persist after they are set I would only have to do this once instead of every time the app runs.  This would be helpful as there would be one less file to distribute.  Suggestions anyone?

    In my opinioin you are already using the best option for this kind of tasks, i.e. having a configuration or customization file with which to personalize a general-use program to specific application characteristics.
    As an alternative you could consider directly personalizing the UIR file with the appropriate set of properties for the controls, but you will need to distribute and maintain custom UIRs instead of having a universal one.
    Proud to use LW/CVI from 3.1 on.

    Hello,
    Open the configuration file with notepad, then go to the “features” variable. On the following article you will find what
    means each parameter:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms144259(v=sql.110).aspx#Feature
    You will also find the list of features supported by each edition on the following article:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/Cc645993(v=sql.110).aspx
    For example, it seems you have DQ and DQC on that configuration file, please remove them with their corresponding commas.
    Hope this helps.

    Thanks Albert that worked when I just selected the main features and excluded ones like DQ and DRC. Thing is why would the standard media allow you to install enterprise features, create a configuration file with these enterprise features and then fail?? Why
    would Microsoft tease you like that? Frustrating since I spent hours on this ..

  • EJB 3.0 - JSF APPLICATION: DATA DOES NOT PERSIST TO THE DATABASE

    Hi,
    I am developing a JSF - EJB application and the data that I send from JSP Page through JSF Managed Bean --> Session Bean --> Java Persistence does not persist in database.
    Here is my scenario ( Iam using JDeveloper IDE to create this application) -
    SCENARIO START
    The scenario consists of two web pages, one enlisting all the users stored in the database, the other contains a form for adding a user
    1.) INDEX.JSP
    2.) ADDUSER.JSP
    Step 1: Create the USERS Table in database
    CREATE TABLE users
    user_id serial,
    username varchar(255) NOT NULL,
    first_name varchar(255),
    last_name varchar(255),
    password char(64) NOT NULL,
    CONSTRAINT pk_users PRIMARY KEY (user_id)
    Step 2: Add Database Connection To JDeveloper
    Go to Database Connection Navigator and create a New Database Connection using the Wizard
    Step 3: Create a New Application in JDeveloper and select JSF, EJB from Application Template
    Step 4: ENTITY BEAN - In the EJB Node Right Click and Select EJB à New Entites from Table (JPA/EJB3.0)
    Use The Wizard and create Entity Bean from Users Table which creates an Entity Bea POJO file as follows –
    User.java -
    package lux.domain;
    import java.io.Serializable;
    import javax.persistence.Column;
    import javax.persistence.Entity;
    import javax.persistence.GeneratedValue;
    import javax.persistence.GenerationType;
    import javax.persistence.Id;
    import javax.persistence.NamedQuery;
    import javax.persistence.SequenceGenerator;
    import javax.persistence.Table;
    @Entity
    @NamedQuery(name = "User.findAll", query = "select o from User o")
    @Table(name = "USERS")
    public class User implements Serializable {
    @Column(name="FIRST_NAME")
    private String firstName;
    @Column(name="LAST_NAME")
    private String lastName;
    @Column(nullable = false)
    private String password;
    @Column(nullable = false)
    private String username;
    @Id
    @GeneratedValue(strategy=GenerationType.SEQUENCE, generator="users_seq_generator")
    @SequenceGenerator(name="users_seq_generator", sequenceName="users_user_id_seq")
    @Column(name="USER_ID", nullable = false)
    private Long userId;
    public User() {
    public String getFirstName() {
    return firstName;
    public void setFirstName(String firstName) {
    this.firstName = firstName;
    public String getLastName() {
    return lastName;
    public void setLastName(String lastName) {
    this.lastName = lastName;
    public String getPassword() {
    return password;
    public void setPassword(String password) {
    this.password = password;
    public String getUsername() {
    return username;
    public void setUsername(String username) {
    this.username = username;
    public Long getUserId() {
    return userId;
    public void setUserId(Long userId) {
    this.userId = userId;
    Step 5: STATELESS SESSION BEAN - In the EJB Node Right Click and Select EJB à New Entites from Table (JPA/EJB3.0)
    Again Right Click on Model and create Session Bean from Wizard which creates two files –
    UserDAOBean.java – Stateless Session Bean
    UserDAO.java – Local Interface
    package lux.facade;
    import java.security.MessageDigest;
    import java.security.NoSuchAlgorithmException;
    import java.util.List;
    import java.util.logging.Level;
    import java.util.logging.Logger;
    import javax.ejb.Stateless;
    import javax.persistence.EntityManager;
    import javax.persistence.PersistenceContext;
    import javax.persistence.Query;
    import lux.domain.User;
    @Stateless(name="UserDAO")
    public class UserDAOBean implements UserDAO {
    @PersistenceContext(unitName="Model")
    private EntityManager em;
    public UserDAOBean() {
    public User getUser(int UserId) {
    User u = new User();
    u = em.find(User.class, UserId);
    return u;
    public List<User> getAllUsers() {
    Query q = em.createQuery("SELECT u FROM User u");
    List<User> users = q.getResultList();
    return users;
    public void createUser(User u) {
    String hashedPw = hashPassword(u.getPassword());
    u.setPassword(hashedPw);
    em.persist(u);
    public void updateUser(User u) {
    String hashedPw = hashPassword(u.getPassword());
    u.setPassword(hashedPw);
    em.merge(u);
    public void deleteUser(User u) {
    em.remove(u);
    private String hashPassword(String password) {
    StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder();
    try {
    MessageDigest messageDigest = MessageDigest.getInstance("SHA");
    byte[] bs;
    bs = messageDigest.digest(password.getBytes());
    for (int i = 0; i < bs.length; i++) {
    String hexVal = Integer.toHexString(0xFF & bs);
    if (hexVal.length() == 1) {
    sb.append("0");
    sb.append(hexVal);
    } catch (NoSuchAlgorithmException ex) {
    Logger.getLogger(UserDAOBean.class.getName()).log(Level.SEVERE, null, ex);
    return sb.toString();
    Step 6: Create a Deployment file in the Model and Deploy this to a JAR file
    Step 7: Now Right Click on View/Controller Node and create a Java File –
    UserController.java -
    package lux.controllers;
    import javax.ejb.EJB;
    import javax.faces.model.DataModel;
    import javax.faces.model.ListDataModel;
    import lux.domain.User;
    import lux.facade.UserDAO;
    public class UserController {
    @EJB UserDAO userDao;
    private User user;
    private DataModel model;
    public String createUser() {
    this.user = new User();
    return "create_new_user";
    public String saveUser() {
    String r = "success";
    try {
    userDao.createUser(user);
    } catch (Exception e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    r = "failed";
    return r;
    public DataModel getUsers() {
    model = new ListDataModel(userDao.getAllUsers());
    return model;
    public User getUser() {
    return user;
    public void setUser(User user) {
    this.user = user;
    Step 8: Configure page flow in faces-config.xml
    1. Create the JSP file adduser.jsp by right-clicking View-Controller
    node and selecting New > JSP. Use the wizard to create JSF – JSP Page, fill in
    File Name adduser.jsp, click Finish. -
    <%@page contentType="text/html"%>
    <%@page pageEncoding="UTF-8"%>
    <%@taglib prefix="f" uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core"%>
    <%@taglib prefix="h" uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html"%>
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"
    "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
    <html>
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8">
    <title>New user</title>
    </head>
    <body>
    <f:view>
    <h:form>
    <h:messages/>
    <h:panelGrid columns="2">
    <h:outputText value="Username"/>
    <h:inputText
    id="Username"
    value="#{user.user.username}"
    required="true"/>
    <h:outputText value="First name"/>
    <h:inputText
    id="FirstName"
    value="#{user.user.firstName}" />
    <h:outputText value="Last name"/>
    <h:inputText
    id="LastName"
    value="#{user.user.lastName}" />
    <h:outputText value="Password" />
    <h:inputSecret
    id="Password"
    value="#{user.user.password}"
    required="true" />
    <h:panelGroup/>
    <h:commandButton
    action="#{user.saveUser}"
    value="Save"/>
    </h:panelGrid>
    </h:form>
    </f:view>
    </body>
    </html>
    2. Repeat the previous step for another JSP file failed.jsp.
    3. On failed.jsp add the string
    Save failed
    Next we configure the page flow.
    1. Open faces-config.xml.
    2. Create index.jsp -
    <%@page contentType="text/html"%>
    <%@page pageEncoding="UTF-8"%>
    <%@taglib prefix="f" uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core"%>
    <%@taglib prefix="h" uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html"%>
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"
    "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
    <html>
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8">
    <title>User Listing</title>
    </head>
    <body>
    <f:view>
    <h:form>
    <h:outputText value="User Listing"/>
    <h:commandLink action="#{user.createUser}" value="Create a user"/>
    <h:dataTable value="#{user.user}"
    var="dataTableItem" border="1" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="2">
    <h:column>
    <f:facet name="header">
    <h:outputText value="Username"/>
    </f:facet>
    <h:outputText value="#{dataTableItem.username}" />
    </h:column>
    <h:column>
    <f:facet name="header">
    <h:outputText value="First name"/>
    </f:facet>
    <h:outputText value="#{dataTableItem.firstName}" />
    </h:column>
    <h:column>
    <f:facet name="header">
    <h:outputText value="Last name"/>
    </f:facet>
    <h:outputText value="#{dataTableItem.lastName}" />
    </h:column>
    </h:dataTable>
    </h:form>
    </f:view>
    </body>
    </html>
    3. Drag an arrow from index.jsp to adduser.jsp and replace the arrow’s label to create_new_user.
    4. Repeat the previous step for failed, by dragging and arrow from adduser.jsp to failed.jsp renaming the label to f
    ailed
    5. Finally repeat the step for adduser.jsp, by dragging from adduser.jsp to index.jsp renaming the label to success.
    This creates the following faces-config.xml file –
    <?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?>
    <faces-config>
    <managed-bean>
    <managed-bean-name>user</managed-bean-name>
    <managed-bean-class>lux.controllers.UserController</managed-bean-class>
    <managed-bean-scope>session</managed-bean-scope>

    </managed-property>
    <managed-property>
    <property-name>firstName</property-name>
    <value>#{firstName}</value>
    </managed-property>
    <managed-property>

    <to-view-id>/index.jsp</to-view-id>
    </navigation-case>
    </navigation-rule>
    </faces-config>
    Step 9: Create a Deployment file in the View-Controller and Deploy this to a WAR file
    Step 10: Create a Deployment file in the View-Controller and create an EAR file and add Model’s JAR and View-Controller’s
    WAR files to it.
    Step 11: Run the JSP Files
    SCENARIO END
    Now, When I execute Index.jsp, it does not list values from database and when I click on Create User link, it takes me to adduser.jsp page. When I fill values in this page and click Save button, it takes me to Save Failed page and data does not persist to the database.
    WHAT IS WRONG OUT HERE ???

    If you set a breakpoint in your createUser method - does this code get executed?
    We have a couple of tutorials that might show you how to do this.

    Do other people have an issue in Photoshop Elements 12 with it not consistently saving photos in version sets?  someties it works correctly and somethimes it doesn't and it also bumps me out stating it is a new photo.  i do have it configured to always save in version sets and to not notify me with new photos?

    Thank you so much.  We'll see if this fixes the problem.  I had worked with
    Adobe for many many hours in August and they couldn't figure out why it was
    doing this.  how come they don't know their own product!!!

  • IMac will not play the DVD that I have made on imovie and burned on iMac SuperDrive  ?? (DVD plays fine on household DVD player and also play fine in Toshiba laptop ) Why not on the iMac - anyone know???

    iMac will not play the DVD that I have made on imovie and burned on iMac SuperDrive  ?? (DVD plays fine on household DVD player and also plays fine on Toshiba laptop ) Why not on the iMac - anyone know???

    There are many reasons this could be the case but whether an optical disc can be read or not is a function of:
    The reflective media layer of the disc
    Whether the burned disc was a DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW
    The brand, model, and production lot of the disc
    The specific frequency of the Write lasers that burned the disc
    The specific frequency of the Read lasers that are attempting to read the disc
    Are the Read lasers in the drive working (it is common for one set of lasers in a drive to fail while others continue to work)
    How old are the Write and Read drives (laser frequencies change with age)
    Is there dust on the read laser
    Is there dust on the read lens
    etc.
    At one time it was estimated that fewer than 80% of all burned discs were readable in 90% of the drives. That has, I believe improved over time but at the same time it seems the faillure rate of lasers in the drives has increased but that may simply be the result of how many different read and write lasers there are in today's superdrives. Fortunately todays drives are a lot less expensive the replace -- now that Apple no longer installs optical drives in their computers.

  • I want a delete operator in Java. Why not?

    The idea is simple: when I tell "delete some_object;" the system checks if the object can be deleted.
    a) Object is not referenced by any other objects out of the reference cycle *=>* some_object object calls its destructor and then it is deleted, and the same should happen to all objects in the reference cycle. The reference some_object is set to null, as operator delete returns null.
    b) Object is referenced by some other objects, which are not in a cycle of references, ending up at the some_object object itself *=>* some_object object is not deleted (destructor is not called), but the reference some_object is set to null (operator delete returns null) and the reference count of the some_object object (in the system) is decreased by 1.
    Easy.
    Why not?

There can be multiple references to a given object, and you don't always own all of them. If you want to set one to null, you can already do that with ref = null;
    Easy.If it's that easy, create your own language that does it.

  • Why not leave remote app for 4.2.1?

    Hi there, with my family i own 3 ipod touches, 3 shuffles, and two iphones. I own two houses where i have set up a central computer to run itunes with airport expresses all over my houses to control speakers and music through the "remote" app. I am heavily invested in apple products and apps. My use of apple technology for our media enjoyment is truly great and never ceases to amaze guests. I LOVE "remote" and airport.
    Since i have had to restore all my ipods for various reasons, i am now no longer able to download the remote app since apple only supports iOS 5 or later. They have instantly rendered my whole apple setup useless. This is extremely disapointing and they are basically telling me that my purchase of their hardware was a mistake and that they only care about people who purchase new things. Which is a great reason not to purchase new things from them.
    What i don't understand is why they simply can't put a version of remote in the app store for iOS 4.2.1. You obviously have it, so why not just put it there?????
    So little effort to leave 4.2.1 apps in the store. They could even create a special section based on iOS.
    Now they are forcing me to consider alternative solutions, of which there are many. I simply would never have bothered to do this before since i was so satisfied with apple products. They are literally forcing me to look at alternatives and this is a failure on their part from a business and marketing perspective.
    Now i will most likely go from an evangelizer of apple products to a hater. It is simply disrespectful how theyare treating people with old products...

    Interesting. It really boggles me why they would do this. Seems it would be easy to seperate the app store into pre and post 4.3?
    The devices i have work perfectly fine and do everything i need them to. I don't want to buy new devices. It is an awful stance to take and i find it very insulting. Is this not a big issue with users out there? Or is everyone just buying new stuff all the time?
