Hi ,
I want to set Sql tracing on in my machine.
I am using the oracle 9i Database (9.2.0.4.0).
My operating system is windows 2000 professional.
Can anyone tell me how to enable SQL tracing in my database and wat is the use of it.
Thanks...

  • How to set SQL trace in OCI session ?

    Hello,
    In a SQL*Plus session, I can use the SQL statement "alter session set sql_trace=true;" to set SQL trace in that session only. I assume I could execute the same SQL statement from C code in an OCI client and achieve the same goal.
    However, if I cannot change the code of this OCI client, is there a way to set SQL trace for that single session alone, without changing the C code? Say, through an environment variable, configuration file, etc.?
    Thanks.

    I am not aware of a way to selectively enable the server-side tracing without modifying the client code.
    There is client tracing available by setting the environment variable EVENT_10842 as follows:
    "server=<>;user=<>;stmt=<>;level=<>;interval=<>"
    e.g.
    setenv EVENT_10842 "server=inst1,inst2;user=scott,system;stmt=all;level=15"
    Where:
    "server" is a comma separated list or "all"
    "user" is a comma separated list or "all"
    "stmt" can be INSERT,UPDATE,DELETE,SELECT or "all"
    The following levels are supported:
    1 - Trace all server attach and server detach calls for servers listed in "server" attribute of the environment variable.
    2 - Trace all session begin, logon, session end, logoff calls for the users listed in "user" attribute of the environment variable.
    3 - Trace all prepare, execute, fetch calls for the specified statement types listed in "stmt" attribute of environment variable.
    4 - Trace all Bind, Define, Describe calls.
    5 - Trace all OCI LOB calls
    7 - Get statistical info on all connection pooling /connection related calls
    8 - Get statistical info on all session info
    9 - Get statistical info on all handle info
    10 - Get statistical info on time taken in execute and fetch calls
    11 - Get statistical info on transaction related calls
    15 - Trace all calls with statistical info.

  • Enabling SQL Tracing for an instance

    Hi,
    I am aware that SQL_TRACE init parameter is deprecated :
    Oracle® Database Upgrade Guide
    10g Release 2 (10.2)
    Part Number B14238-01
    Initialization Parameters Deprecated in Release 10.2
    SQL_TRACE
    So I searched the recommended way of enabling sql tracing for an instance and I found :
    Oracle® Database Performance Tuning Guide
    10g Release 2 (10.2)
    Part Number B14211-01
    20.4.2 Step 2: Enabling the SQL Trace Facility
    You can enable the SQL Trace facility for an instance by setting the value of the SQL_TRACE initialization parameter to TRUE in the initialization file.
    Well, the Tuning guide should not mention deprecated parameter, should it?
    Anyway, I found later that the recommended way is to use
    exec DBMS_MONITOR.DATABASE_TRACE_ENABLEPlease update your tuning guide.
    Cam on rat nieu ;-)

    Laurent,
    Sorry to post a reply after nearly 2 years :-)
    But:
    Does dbms_monitor.database_trace_enable() only trace existing sessions or does it also enable tracing for all new sessions?
    I've been consulting the documentation and searching on the Internet but I can't determine this.
    Cheers & thanks,
    Colin

    in 8.49 tools version,
    It's a part of psappsrv.cfg file :

  • Enable SQL Tracing for Session

    Hi,
    I know how to enable SQL tracing for a session created either through SQL*Plus or like similar tool, but I want to explore is there any way to can we enable sql tracing for a single session which is connected to database through an application.
    ssome time for testing purpose we have a requirement to enable tracing for that user which run batch Job. Now that particular user gets connected to database through application and i want to enable tracing right at that moment. How can I accomplish it.
    Regards,
    Ababsi

    If you don't want to identify database session you can try to create a logon trigger to enable tracing for all database sessions created by a specific Oracle user account. In the following example you need to replace UWCLASS with the Oracle user account for which you want to trace sessions:
    CREATE OR REPLACE TRIGGER trace_trig
    AFTER LOGON
    ON DATABASE
    DECLARE
    sqlstr VARCHAR2(200) := 'ALTER SESSION SET EVENTS ''10046 TRACE NAME CONTEXT FOREVER, LEVEL 12''';
    BEGIN
      IF (USER = 'UWCLASS') THEN
        execute immediate sqlstr;
      END IF;
    END trace_trig;
    /Reference:
    http://psoug.org/reference/system_trigger.html
    If you want to identify database session you need to query V$SESSION to retrieve SID and SERIAL# of the session you want to trace and then you can use DBMS_MONITOR. See examples in http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/10g/SQLTrace10046TrcsessAndTkprof10g.php

  • Setting sql for a column

    Hi, is there a way to set sql query for a column?
    the query should take value from column in the table.
    in my case, it has come down for a need to have a nested select query inside my query:
    select app.application_id,
    (SELECT LISTAGG(typ.verification_name, ', ') WITHIN GROUP (ORDER BY typ.verification_id) FROM
    typ,chk where
    chk.application_id = app.application_id
    GROUP BY app.application_id ) AS verification_type,
    from tablea,tableb where....
    <note that application_id is coming from the bigger query , aka another column from another table.>
    i've tried
    CAST ( EVALUATE_AGGR('LISTAGG(%1,%2) WITHIN GROUP (ORDER BY %3 DESC)', "typ"."verification_name", ', ', "chk "."application_id ") AS CHARACTER ( 50 ))
    but my query need more than few EVALUATE_AGGR resulting in huge query in the log plus it's hard to put more details from other tables when you do this since everything buble down to the group by in the end of the query.
    pls help if there's something even close to this

    Hi jan ,
    thanx for your interest but let me clear with my requirement. What I want to do is that after executing the view query I want to navigate through records and sets some property or a group of property ( think it as a java object which holds properties ) for that cell and after that when I Navigate through record I don't want to run my logic for calculating properties again and I should be able to get those properties which I set earlier. There can be any number of records and most of time value will remain same then why should I calculate properties every time I navigate.
    Currently I am storing these values in a separate class (with row and column no.)but now I am searching some way so that I can store those values in my view only.
    Is it possible in BC4J view ? I heard that something like this is provided in BC4J view but not able to find out..
    thanx once again
    I welcome some other suggestions on it..

  • SQL tracing in ADR

    Hi,
    I've a question and needs calrification. As in 11g $ADR_HOME/trace holds the information of background process tracing and SQL tracing. Now I want to know how can we seperate the SQL tracing files and BG tracing files. Let say its not possible and both are written in single trace files, then my question is can we extract SQL tracing information from this single file through tkprof.
    I'm not sure weather BG tracing is enabled by default or not. Please clarify it as we have to explicityly enabled the SQL tracing.
    Looking for your information.
    Regards,
    Abbasi

    I think that it would be hard to tell which file belongs to the background process or which one to the foreground process just by looking at the files. We must know the process id and then use it to track the file. The trace folder contains both the Background and User_Dump_Dest combined in it so it contains both the files. Background tracing is not on( I think that there is no such concept called background tracing) and the trace file would be generated when the process would be abruptly terminated.
    Just my 2 cents.

  • Enabling SQL Tracing for already connected session

    Hi,
    I've a requirement. i.e. my users are connected to db through schema making sessions( As multiple users are connected from single Schema). Now there are certian users which have to run batch jobs and I want to trace there SQL for tunning. I want to know how can I enable SQL tracing for specific user, session,id since it is difficult to trace exact user as multiple users are running the batch jobs.
    I have a strategy to enable tracing at schema level. Can I do this while users are connected and running quries. As normally first we enable the tracing and then run the quries.
    Kindly help me in working out this.
    Regards,
    Abbasi

    You didn't post your Oracle version, but maybe you have DBMS_MONITOR available to you.
    Hope this helps!

  • Ability to perform ALTER SESSION SET SQL TRACE but not all alter clauses

    I see that in order to run the ALTER SESSION SET SQL TRACE command, the user should be explicitly granted alter session privilege as the CREATE SESSION privilege alone is not enough. Is there a way to grant the ability to perform ALTER SESSION SET SQL TRACE but not the other clauses such as GUARD, PARALLEL & RESUMABLE?.
    Thanks
    Sathya

    If you are using Oracle 10g and above, you can use DBMS_SESSION.session_trace_enable procedure,
    it doesn't require alter session system privilege.
    Simple example:
    SQL> connect test/test@//192.168.1.2:1521/xe
    Connected.
    SQL> alter session set tracefile_identifier='my_id';
    Session altered.

    alter session set sql_trace = true

  • Where to set sql environment peermenently

    we have to set sql environment each time we login, could any one tell how to set it permenently( i know there is a file called glogin.sql, but in my system i m unable to append in it).

    If you cannot modify glogin.sql you can create your own script for example connect.sql
    connect.sql:
    set termout off
    connect &1
    @loginMOB.sql
    set termout on
    You can set SQL*Plus variables in loginMOB.sql
    loginMOB.sql:
    define _editor=vim
    set serveroutput on size 1000000
    set trimspool on
    set linesize 160
    set pagesize 9999
    column global_name new_value gname
    set termout off
    alter session set nls_language="AMERICAN";
    set termout on

  • AWR SQL TRACING

    Hi all,
    I want to produce sql tracing using AWR.
    But i can not find the hits in google for "AWR sql tracing".
    Kindly assist what is the right keywords.
    Thanks a lot.

    Hi,
    AWR doesn't provide any chronological information. It provides aggregate statistics per snapshots. For example you can use it to find out what was top SQL during that snapshot, and how many times it was executed, but you won't be able to see who was doing what at what moment in time. For that you would have to use ASH -- just run the query I gave you (add "order by sample_time", I forgot that part) and see what kind of information it gives you.
    Tracing the entire database would also give you information about SQL run by every user, but I wouldn't recommend that for several reasons:
    1) there will be a performance overhead
    2) trace files grow very fast, and they can eat up all your free space in the matter of minutes
    3) trace files are harder to read (if you want them formatted nicely, then you'll have to do some additional processing like running tkprof)
    And to reiterate: the tool of choice for monitoring user activity is not ASH, not trace, not AWR, but audit. So I would approach your problem as follows:
    1) use ASH to find out who was doing what at the period of interest
    2) enable audit to facilitate such investigations in the future

  • SCCM 2012 Setup error when setting SQL connection info "Network Path Was Not Found"

    Hello.
    I'm facing an issue during CCM 2012 SP1 Beta Setup on step "DB INFORMATION"

    1x Front-end WS 2012 rtm "CCM Install on it" (Fresh install = no features installed)
    1x Back-end WS 2012 rtm SQL Server 2012 SP1 (I don't know if this is supported).
    On the sql Side there is already a first instance with SCVMM 2012 SP1(beta) environment that work well.
    A second dedicated instance is ready for CCM install.

    3 Steps are neccessary:
    1. Make sure the Windows Firewall Service on the SQL Server is running and set to automatic
    2. Add the SQL EXE as a Program Exception to the Firewall on the SQL Server:
    To add a program exception to the firewall using the Windows Firewall item in Control Panel.

    Add a program.
    - Browse to the location of the instance of SQL Server that you want to allow through the firewall, for example
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL11.<instance_name>\MSSQL\Binn, select
    sqlservr.exe, and then click Open
    - Click OK.
