Setting system variables for Oracle Forms at runtime

Hi,
I've read somewhere that a user can set some Oracle Forms system variables
like SYSTEM.MESSAGE_LEVEL, SYSTEM.DATE_THRESHOLD, SYSTEM.EFFECTIVE_DATE, SYSTEM.SUPPRESS_WORKING
at runtime.
Does anyone know how?
I want to use the same fmx file with various settings, so do not want to
hard code any values for these variables.

I remember a beta of Oracle Forms, having the functionality to set properties in all objects, just like Visual Basic, including lines, etc. But that beta was rejected and I see Oracle had leave Oracle Forms as just a database client.
In this moment there is a free light version of ADF.
I will like you think in that possibility.
Think in this, if you want to program a small software, I mean 20,000 U$, and the runtime is 40,000 U$, then this doesn't makes sense.
Oracle is pushing small customers toward Visual Studio,
I think the idea of a free runtime will benefit Oracle in two ways.
For a 20,000 U$ software or less, you but Visual Studio, Sql Server 2012 is enough, not as Oracle, but is enough for that small softwares,
this means if you give a free runtime of oracle forms & reports (like adf is doing)
1) you will win selling development licenses and 2) selling Oracle Standard One licenses.
If you don't do you will lose developement licenses and Oracle will continue losing the small databases market, because this is not like 10 years ago, Sql Server and other databases had improved, and the hardware too .
2) THE DEVELOPMENT OF A LINUX MORE EASY TO INSTALL & AN EASY DESKTOP FOR THAT LINUX
The other point I want to give feedback is linux, it's too related to oracle forms & reports improvements for small business
Is the development of an easier Linux, to use 1) for development 2) for production.
In the same way you don't wait 60 seconds in a normal web page to load, people don't like Linux because is not like Microsoft Windwos or Macintosh; so if Oracle wants to move to people to use linux to use Oracle Forms or Oracle Database, I think Oracle must create a more simple and tested installation for both customers and developers,
- less is more, so the installation must have only what normally is needed.
- you should not need to use command line for most operations, this should be an exception, normal users must do things by themselves.

I don't know that it will break things, but I can say that the safest thing to do would be to use separate WLS installations for each product. This may sound like overkill, but each product (ADF, Forms/Reports) have their own idiosyncrasies and requirements with respect to versions and patching, and trying to mix and match them in the same WLS installation is not, in my opinion, something that's worth undertaking.
I have the very setup I describe (separate WLS installations for ADF apps and Forms/Reports apps), and it's working with no problems.

Setup FORMS_PATH for Oracle Forms 10g in windows7

Hi,
Please kindly advise the regedit path to set the FORMS_PATH variable at windows for Oracle Forms 10g?
Should it be HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > ORACLE?
If yes, is it the unique path? since I cannot create folder for 'ORACLE'.

If you installed the product following the instructions found in MOS Note 559067.1 the registry key will have already been created for you. It will be a sub to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Oracle\<???>
Find this in your system and look at the contents of each key below "Oracle". It should be obvious which one belongs to Forms as there will be numerous FORMS_xxxxx entries there.

I've a similar configuration: Sun Sparc Solaris 8, Forms 6i Patch 10 and Apache server which comes with Oracle 9i server.
Forms 6i is on his own Oracle home. I have Forms Listener Servlet working.
Take a look in ../Apache/Jserv/etc/jserv.conf Make sure ApJServMount /servlets /root and ApJServMount /servlet /root

Configuration of Listener Servlet with patch 8 on Sun SPARC Solaris
I am trying to install and configure Forms6i Application Server for Sun SPARC Solaris 8 with Patch8.
I am installing application server in /home/oracle/home9iAS, and have set up the development environment in /home/oracle/forms6i.
1) First i install Forms Server and Reports Server, for that i need to define following env variables
$ORACLE_HOME is /home/oracle/forms6i
$ORACLE_BASE is /home/oracle
i am defining them in .profile file in oracle account.
2) Apply Patch 8
3) Install Application Server with Minimal Installation
4) Configure Forms Listener Servlet using http://otn.oracle.com/products/forms/pdf/p8listenerservlet.pdf pdf file, i am following it to the letter.
When i try to access forms listener server using http://hostname:port/servlet/oracle.forms.servlet.ListenerServlet i get an error:
"Not Found
the requested URL /servlet/oracle.form.servlet.ListenerServlet was not found on this server."
What can be the reason?

Global variable are forms specifice variable.
it can store character value upto 255 for all usages.
We can initialize it when we declare otherwise give error if we did not assign it any value.
Oracle 10g it can take upto 4000 bytes
GLOBAL.ur_globalvar := TO_CHAR(15);

Remmber numeric values are implicitly converted by oracle 2 character

I want to convert word documents to html using CTX_DOC.Filter.According to the documentation,I know I neednot set the 'Inso Filter'in the preference when creating index,but I must set enviroment variables for Inso Filter.
I found the following instructions for it in the 8.1.5 documentation,but I can't understand it well.Is there anyone can tell me how to set enviroments variables for Inso Filter on Windows2000 Server?(My DB version is 8.1.7EE)

CSS keepalives for Oracle forms server

I'm trying to set up load balancing for oracle forms server and having issues with finding working keepalive method.
If I use uri keepalive, Oracle forms server crashes within a couple of minuites. TCP doesn't work either

keepalive uri "/alive.gif"
keepalive frequency 30
It works for Oracle web server tho.
What keepalive do you guy use for Forms server?

How to access environment variables from Oracle Forms

Hi,
Any idea how to use the Environment variables from Oracle Forms.
My basic problem is that from Oracle form I am calling Batch file which calls excel file with a macro.
So i want to check whether the macro was successful or not.
So in my batch file i will set %errorlevel% which I should be able to read from Oracle Forms.
I am able to read the registry from oracle forms, so is there anyway to read environment variable as well?

Recently I created a application with Hierarchy Component with Parent VO (Query based VO with Bind variables in it) and its Child VO along with Child-Child VO(Query based VO with bind variable in it)
I am able to set bind variable of parent VO but unable to set bind variable for Child-Child VO. Can any one help me regarding this issue?

RBAC for Oracle Forms

How can we have role based access control for Oracle Forms.
Say for example purchase Order, Role 'Creator' will have create access to Purchase Order form, Role 'Verifier' will have only update access to Purchase order form and Role 'Approver' will have view only access to Purchase Order Forms.
Request for quick response as requirement is very urgent.

I have looked at the above document you have provided, but couldnt get any helpfull information.
The information that this document contains is usefull for OAF forms. We have created four OAF forms
1) to Search, Search page will have two buttons i) Create, when pressed will invoke Create page, ii) Update, when pressed will invoke update page, and view link ii) View, when clicked will invoice page in view mode only,
2) to Create
3) to Update
4) to view
Now, the buttons and link in Search page will have repspective fuction attached to them. so when through grants and permissions if create fuctions is assinged to user say 'X', on search page user will be able to see, create button, and he can create record in create page, if function is not assinged to user, he wont be able to see create button, that mean that user will not have create write.
But how to control the same in oracle standard form.

i have to create a variable for smart form which is i already created in smart form but facing some sort of difficulties.
for example:
DATA: formname TYPE ZCCCL_GOODS_RECEIPT.(SMART FORM NAME)
DATA: formname TYPE ZCCL_RETURN_VENDOR. (SMART FORM NAME)
DATA: formname TYPE ZCCL_GOODS_RESERVATION.(SMART FORM NAME)
CASE in_mseg-bwart.
WHEN '101' or '105' or '321'.
formname = 'FORM_RECEIPT'.
WHEN '122' or '124'.
formname = 'FORM_RETURN_VENDOR'.

So this the logic im using but it gave me error like:
Type ZCCCL_GOODS_RECEIPT is unknown.
Kindly tell me if this coding is wrong than what should i use.

I set a variable for an item in a list like this

</c:if>I tested and see that the application works OK even when myList is empty but I donot know that my way is correct or not. Is there any problem happen if myList is empty?

Try this,
->> Open the Pick List(System) PLD and Save as the New PLD.
->> Open the NEw PLD and Create 1 Database Field(for WareHouse Name) in Repetetive Area.
Table -> OWHS - WareHouse
Column -> WhsName - WareHouse Name
Save as and Run the Print Preview.
IF will not print the WareHouse Name in Print.
Do this in PLD.
->> Open your PLD.
--> Ralate to WareHouse Code Field ID in WareHouse Name Field at Content Tab on Properties Window.
