Setting the runtime classpath

Hi
I have a beginner question regarding setting the java classpath.
When I run a java command, I usually do a java -cp <jarfiles> <exe>. However, in my case, I am including up to 30 jar files. I am currently specifically defining the classpath, but I would like to have a more dynamic way to set the classpath. Is there a way to point to the folder and do a java -cp <foldername>/*.jar <exe>? I also have another problem with my jarfile folder, some of the jars are stored in separate folders(foo/myjar.jar, and foo/foo2/myjar.jar). Is there a way to set the classpath so that all I have to do is point to the foo folder? Also, copying my jars to the java.ext.dirs is not an option, since I am not an administrator on the box.
Thanks.
Joe

I am getting this error when I try to run an install routine for an application that uses the JVM. I kept getting this error. Do you have any ideas. I am a newbie. I am running fedora, mozilla, and sun jsdk1.4.2_05.
Thanks

  • How to set the Server CLASSPATH?

    Hi all Oracle Java experts,
    I know this is a rather stupid questions:
    Where can I set the CLASSPATH of the Servlet Engine in Oracle 8.1.7.?
    I spent hours now searching the documentation and found loads of hints what to add to the CLASSPATH in which circumstances, but not how to... Of course I know how to use the CLASSPATH in a normal Java environment, but not in the OSE.
    In the "Oracle8i Application Developer's Guide - XML" it says in the "Using XSQL Servlet" Chapter:
    "How you set the CLASSPATH of the web server's Servlet environment and how you associate a Servlet with a file extension are done differently for each web server. The XSQL Servlet's Release Notes contain detailed setup information for specific web servers you might want to use with XSQL Pages."
    Unfortunately, the Release Notes contain this information for Tomcat, Apache JServ etc., but not for Oracle's own Servlet Engine... Maybe you should include that information.
    Thanks for any help;-)
    Cheers

    Not sure if I understatnd the context in which you want to set your classpath.
    IDE, java or system but ...
    look at the profile file /etc/profile
    CLASSPATH= "/usr/local/jdk1.4......"
    export CLASSPATH
    or
    javac -classpath .;/usr/local/jkd1.4.... test.java
    or
    whatever your ide provides.

  • Find the right Archive to set the correct classpath

    How should a beginner find the correct archive file .jar for implementation when he knows which imports are necessary?
    I am searching for the correct archive for java.util.Calendar and java.util.Date.
    I found 148 .jar files on my HDD!

    FInd where you installed the JDK.
    if you installed the enterprise version of java1.4 you will need tools.jar, dt.jar and j2ee.jar.
    The standard version uses rt.jar and servlet.jar. I may be wrong about the last two and servlet.jar may not be available.

  • Overriding the Eclipse runtime classpath

    Hi All,
    We have been playing about with connectors to Exchange from within OpenScript (as one does on a Monday afternoon). When I compose a standalone java program my example works really well, but when I run this in OpenScript i get the following exception:
    java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: org.jdom.output.XMLOutputter .......
    Now, I have done some searching on this and the outcome is that the wrong jdom.jar is being referenced. So I went searching for these naughty files and found the following installed as part of OATS.
    G:\oracle\OATS93\agent\plugins\oracle.oats.jagent.lib3rdparty_2.6.0.0272\lib\jdom.jar
    G:\oracle\OATS93\lib\jdom.jar
    G:\oracle\OATS93\openScript\plugins\oracle.oats.jagent.lib3rdparty_2.6.0.0272\lib\jdom.jar
    G:\oracle\OATS93\openScript\plugins\oracle.oats.scripting.modules.webService.lib3rdparty_2.6.0.0272\jdom.jar
    Now I have my own jdom.jar file located in h:\JEC\bin. So I add this as a script asset, and the above exception still occurs.
    So I do a little digging with procmon.exe (from sysinternals....don't leave home without them), and notice that both jdom.jar from above are reference i.e:
    G:\oracle\OATS93\openScript\plugins\oracle.oats.jagent.lib3rdparty_2.6.0.0272\lib\jdom.jar
    G:\oracle\OATS93\openScript\plugins\oracle.oats.scripting.modules.webService.lib3rdparty_2.6.0.0272\jdom.jar
    when I run the script, which I find a little perculiar, as it also touches my own jar file.
    So, just to satisfy my own curiosty, I back up the openscript jdom.jar and replace them with my own jdom.jar, and hey presto my sciript works, but openscript starts behaving very strangely.
    So, my question is how do you override the runtime classpath settings from OpenScript to include my Jar file first, and not what is needed for OpenScript?
    Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

    Edited by: byrne_wayne on Sep 26, 2011 5:49 PM

    Hi Wayne,
    You can't do this is OpenScript apparently. Packaging up the third party jar into a new generic jar didn't work either, so you'll need to use a different utility that doesn't clash with the libs on which OpenScript depends.
    Cheers,

  • How to correctly import the jUnit classpath into an Ant buildfile on OS X

    Hi,-
    I'm trying to automate compilation with Ant & jUnit which I run from command-line on my Mac OS X. My source files are in the /src folder, test classes are in the /test folder, the .class files go into the /build folder, and junit38.jar is in the /lib folder. The build.xml file looks like this:

    If this is a type-2 JDBC driver, it may also indicate that
    the Driver native layers(DBMS client lib or driver DLL)

    This is most likely caused by one of the following:

    Hello, Jenny I am glad you found your resolution. I too am having problems isung
    the oracle 0CI8 driver. My connection pool is creating fine, but my server is
    crashing with JVM errors.
    Here are my configurations.
    DBase=Oracle 8.1.7,OS=Win2000, running 6.1 with Portal 4.0
    pool config =
    <JDBCConnectionPool CapacityIncrement="0"

    MaxCapacity="5" Name="ccConPool"
    Properties="jdbc.url=jdbc:oracle:oci8:@servername:1521:orcl;user=XXXXX;password=XXXXXX;dll=ocijdbc8;server=orcl;protocol=oci8;dll=ocijdbc8;protocol=oci8"
    RefreshMinutes="0" Targets="portalServer"
    TestTableName="WIP_TABLE" URL="jdbc:oracle:oci8:@servername"/>
    My classpath sets my classes12.zip file first. My path sets %WEBLOGIC_HOME%\bin\oci817_8
    and %WLCS_ORACLE_HOME%\bin.
    Am I setting the right dll and protocol in my .dll? Where can I find documentation
    on these properties definitions?

    Its not CLASS_PATH it should be CLASSPATH.
    when you say oracle\bin and oracle\lib , on what driver is the oracle
    folder?I meant to say 'on what drive' not 'on what driver'
    you have to specify the full path.
    post your startup script here.

    1. Dont copy this file oci8jdbc.dll, to bin folder. Make sure
    you
    place
    <oracle_home>\lib in your PATH before starting the server. Make
    sure
    your
    ORACLE_HOME environment varable is set to <oracle_home> folder.
    eg. set ORACLE_HOME=c:\ora816 before starting the server.
    so you must have done something like
    set ORACLE_HOME=c:\ora816
    set PATH=%ORACLE_HOME%\bin;%ORACLE_HOME%\lib;%PATH%
    2. double check if you set your CLASSPATH something like this,
    CLASSPATH=%ORACLE_HOME%\jdbc\lib\classes12.zip;%CLASSPATH%
    in the server startup script just before starting the server.
    3. start the server the connection pool should work.

    To use oracle oci8 driver:
    You should have classes12.zip in weblogic classpath.
    You should have ocijdbc8.dll in your weblogic path..
    You can download ocijdbc8.dll from oracle website.

    Hi everybody,
    experimenting with the J2ME Personal Profile Runtime Environment on a Linux PC I wonder how to set the classpath. The command line options only allow me to set the bootclasspath.
    My original problems deals with determining the codebase for a class that is contained in a jar.
    1) If I put this jar into the bootclasspath, that class is found and can be loaded, but the codebase (retrieved using class.getProtectionDomain().getCodeSource) is NULL.
    2) If I put it into the classpath by using the command line option -Djava.class.path=... the class cannot be found by the ClassLoader.
    3) If I put the jar into both, the classpath and the bootclasspath, the latter one is applied and result 1) shows up.

    There are two ways to do this:
    1.
    Loading the jar file byte by byte and create the classes to load them into memory. This is the hard way.
    2.
    Setting the CLASSPATH variable in the running program! Thats the easy way! May how does it works?
    Is there any possiblity to set the classpath in a running application or only in the shell?
    Thanks for help
    konrad

    the classpath is readin when you run the JVM ie issue the 'java' command, the environment cant be altered to update a new classpath. However, why not just put the files you wish to load at runtime within the current classpath you've setup. If you use the System.loadLibrary(), you should be able to pick up the classes you wish to readin at run time via this approach.

    In J2SE 5.0, jdb has a new option that will list the available connectors and the arguments that can be passed to them EG:
    jdb -listconnectors
    Available connectors are:
    Connector: com.sun.jdi.CommandLineLaunch Transport: dt_socket
    description: Launches target using Sun Java VM command line and attaches to it
    Argument: home Default value: /net/foo/p/jdk/1.5.0/jre
    description: Home directory of the SDK or runtime environment used to launch the application
    Argument: options (no default)
    description: Launched VM options
    Required Argument: main (no default)
    description: Main class and arguments, or if -jar is an option, the main jar file and arguments
    Argument: suspend Default value: true
    description: All threads will be suspended before execution of main
    Required Argument: quote Default value: "
    description: Character used to combine space-delimited text into a single command line argument
    Required Argument: vmexec Default value: java
    description: Name of the Java VM launcher
    This means that you would want to put "-classpath ......" into the 'options' argument.
    Hope this helps

  • Help, how to install jvm and set the classpath using a batch file

    hello,
    i have created my java application and now have to create an installable / batch file which will install the JVM on the users machine and also the java packages such as javamail and the class files that i have created . it also has to set the classpath.
    i would like to know if anyone can tell me how to go about iti.e. how can i install the JVM using a batch file and then place the javamial packages etc in the apropriate directory .
    or is it advisable to explain it to the user how to go about it in tht user manual.
    and would also like to know that if i install the JVM will the path for the java.exe be set
    or will i have to set the path explicitly from the "batch file" so that the user can run the application without and problem just by running the java command followed by filename from the command prompt.

    hi,
    I have windows and I use it.
    The only problem with the free edition is that you can only create 1 launcher and that during the installation you get 1 popup showing that the installer was created with an unregistered version.

  • How to set the view, which has to be shown at runtime?

    Hi,
    in my application i have more than one view, but at runtime only one of these views has to be shown. I want to decide this via a parameter that I get from the url.
    How can i set the right view to be showing at runtime?
    I tried it with a StartView which fires the right Outbound Plug in his wdDoInit-Method. This is working fine, but the problem is, that the method OnPlugDefault() of ComponentInterfaceViewController isn't called already at this time. So in the Init-Method of the StartView I don't have the given URL Parameter, so I can't decide which Plug I want to fire. The method OnPlugDefault() is called only after the init-method of the StartView.
    Is there any other possibilty to set the view, which has to be shown, at runtime?
    Thanks and Best Regards
    Katharina

    Hi,
    One way is you can pass the parameter in the URL , read the parameter and then fire the outbound plug depending upon that.
    You can read the parameters as follows
    HttpServletRequest request =Task.getCurrentTask()
         .getWebContextAdapter()
         .getHttpServletRequest();
    String[] param1 = request.getParameterValues("<<PARAMETRNAME");
    if(param1.equals("VALUE"))
      fire outbound plug1;
