Setting timeline for Anamorphic footage shot 24fps

I have footage I shot with a Panasonic DVX100a.
I shot 24p with the Anamorphic lens.
When I import into the FCP timeline the settings give me a choice of 24fps..or Anamorphic. There does not seem to be an option that includes
both.
I need to cut this film for output to film- so I need to have a 24 timeline.
of course - I also want to see the image at the right aspect.
How can I do this?

you need to go in and edit the capture preset... I usually copy the preset and rename it. add the anamorphic check box.
HOWEVER... did you shoot 24p or 24pA.
If you shot 24p then leave it as a normal 29.97 sequence. The cadence is 3.2.3.2 not 2.3.3.2.

  • How do you prepare FCP for footage shot on HD 1080i x 720?

    Hi,
I have HD footage shot on a JVC camera 1080i x 720 that was saved to Quicklime on a DVD disc. I dragged and dropped the footage onto the timeline and, of course, the image doesn't know if it wants to look like 16:9 of 4:3.
I switched anamorphic on and off but that only increased the warp look.
    1. Are there settings that need to be set before dropping the footage on the timeline?
    2. Are there tutorials on this subject?
    I'm using OS X 10.4.11 Mac 5
    Thanks for your time.

    No, I am not sure.
And the footage is a FCP file and not QuickTime as I originally thought. My bad
This is what I was told by the person that gave me the DVD. I did tell her to talk to the videographer and ask him various questions...what frame rate and aspect ratio was the footage shot at.
I'm still waiting for her response.
But I can not seem to get a normal visual with the footage I have as it appears on the timeline. Shouldn't I still be able to control or remedy that without any other information?
    Thanks for your time.

  • Using footage shot at 24fps

What type of settings do I need utilize when capturing and editing footage shot at 24fps?
    Anyone able tohelp
    Thanks
    Mike

    Well,
I shot the footage already. I shot on the Canon XL2. I was trying to figure out how to capture it. When I set the audio/visual settings and have the timeline set at 24fps then bring the footage in, it needs to be rendered. The only way I can capture and have the footage not need to be rendered is when I have both the capture settings and the sequence settings set at 29.97. I do not know if it will effect my footage or not if I have it playing on the timeline at 29.97.
    Thanks

  • Need to edit footage shot in anamorphic/Sqeeze with footage shot widescreen

Okay, so I had two DPs who were supposed to sync the footage specs and didn't. Now I have part of the project that was shot in anamorphic/squeeze on dvx100a and then part of the footage shot in regular widescreen 16x9 on dvx100a. I've been told those are two different pixel ratios... how do I do this?
Help. Under deadline for dvd distribution for this web series. Thanks!

Hey Shawn.. for sure, I am going to edit it in final cut but the first part of the project, the sequence setting had to be set to anamorphic. When I do that for the second half shot in widescreen, it distorts it.
I'm not sure how to solve that, since the output to digibeta has to be continuous. If I do a sequence in anamorphic, the widescreen distorts, and visa versa.
    Any suggestions for that?

  • Capturing footage shot in 24fps standard mode

I have footage shot on my Canon XL2 in 24fps standard mode. The question is what should my settings be on FCP to capture the footage properly and do I need to use cinema tools to convert the footage to 30fps after it is captured?

24P standard is fully compatible with (is) 29.97 NTSC footage, so the "normal" capture will work.
You may have misstated / mistyped? You do nothing to convert this to 30 fps. You CAN use Cinema Tools to generate true 24fps from this footage to edit on a 24fps (okay 23.98) timeline.

You seem to be new to this software, so I highly recommend that you take some time to learn it using some great tutorials available online - it will pay off to invest the time, if you follow through, for example the great (and free) introductory tutorial at izzyvideo.com.
This is an amazing piece of software, and you'll have a lot to learn, but it's well worth it.

  • Sony NX5 and Log & Transfer - Timecode set to 00:00:00:00 for SD footage

    Hi,
I am trying to import footage from my Sony NX5 into Final Cut, and I notice that for SD footage, the timecode is not retined, it just sets this at 0.
Is this something Apple are working on fixing, as Sony says it is not an issue with the camera, rather the software?
    Many thanks

    We are on Facilis Terrablock.
Sh&t. That's it. When I read this, it was like someone hit me in the back of the head with a 2x4.
We have a 24D Terrablock. Unbelievable.
I can't understand why I didn't think of this before. we have had other little snitty issue with this thing as well. Nothing major, just little blips that didn't make sense. Couldn't build large DVDSP projects to it using hte multiwrite. And other little things.
I'll put in an email to the support (with whom I'm VERY familiar with) ASAP. I am crazy busy right now too, and don't have the time to troubleshoot very much. I have my footage, and now that I know the problem, I'll ingest to an internal drive them transfer it to the 24D. what a pain in the arse, but that's the way its gonna be until I have some time to chat with tech support.
Wow. I hope this helps you out. Is there a way to conact you off list so maybe we can share other little insights? I've yet to find another company that is using this thing that I can collaborate with.
To answer your questions, we are connected via 4gb fibre to a fibre switch with the facilis attached to the switch. We have 3 edit suites with 3 permanent volumes, one for each suite. The y are all set up single user write, not the multiwrite. We had speed issues with the multiwrite.
We did not always have this problem, and I can't recall when i updated the system from v3 to v4. Might have been connected to that.  We don't create and delete volumes per project, we just have a big bucket for each suite. We don't really share FCP projects that much, but we do share media. We don't use any MXF importers, as we like to work with self contained QT's.
    Cheers-

  • What is the best FC Pro Easy Set up for video shot with an iPhone 4?

what is the best FC Pro Easy Set up for video shot with an iPhone 4?

There isn't one. You have to convert the media to one of the ProRes codecs, probably ProRes LT would work best. You need to do this in Compressor.
Easy setup isn't relevant as it's options are for tape based media, which this isn't.

  • Setting specific timeline for user login in EBS

    Hi All,
Is it Possible to define specific timelines for specific users or user groups in EBS? (e.g. Mr X can only log in between 08 00 hrs and 16 00 hrs and session is automatically terminated with a grace period afterwards).
    Thanks,
    Prasad

Hi Hussein, here is the exact req.
I need to allow a few specific users to work only during office hours like 8.00 to 6.00 etc . So i will create a form to capture these timing details in a custom table.
When the user logs into the application outside of his allowed timing ie after 6.00 i need to check for this user in my custom table which has the timing and if he is not allowed to work then should not allow him to login. I was thinking a trigger will help me solve this any suggestions from yourside.

  • Upscaled dv for anamorphic and want to know about adjusting gamma etc.

I took my dv ntsc 4:3 (3:2 really shot on dvcam on the dvx100a) timeline and nested it in an anamorphic sequence to render out a quicktime with the 1:85 matte on it and to apply an rgb limiter as when it upscales some of my broadcast safe get hot again in the high end. This output is going to a theatrical presentation. Unfortunately now they are only going to show it with dvcam and want this anamorphic output so it matches another filmmaker's settings and the projectionist doesn't have to get confused (?) so anyway...
Back to my question...when I upscale this to 133.33 to fill the screen in the anamorphic of course things get washed out...I readjusted gamma to 1.05 which is subtle but brings the blacks back...I do have a bunch of monitors but I distrust that on my little 14" broadcast sony crt what is going to project won't be washed out so I'm relying somewhat on a sony flat screen panel with settings to match my smaller crt but by eye...
In any case anyone out there doing this a lot do you find there are general settings you use that would adjust and resaturate color and gamma levels etc. and any other levels I need worry about so the picture won't look so washed out when it's projected? Does readjusting gamma to 1.05 sound right to you or should it be more as a general thing?
I have a color balance set up for highs and mid range but don't know that I need to use them on this file which I output as an uncompressed it seems to not have lost much in the color itself it's mainly the gamma issue...I also want to get this right because it's a pain working with the uncompressed nested sequence and rendering it is extremely time consuming.
...when I output a quicktime earlier using dv ntsc compressor settings "as is" I found I would lose saturation and the picture would get dark if I applied the gamma and instead color corrected just with color balance settings and the rgb limiter.
    thank you

What kind of problem are you having? I've used Netbackup for doing Oracle backups quite a bit without a problem. If you can shutdown the instances, just have a script do it before the backup starts. Usually, I do a cold backup on the weekends and then backup of the archive logs during the week to save tape space. Just stick in a little script to do a log switch before the backup starts to make sure you get the current changes. If you're running 24x7, you'll need to look at buying the RMAN module from veritas or roll your own hot backup script.

  • Export Settings for HD footage

    Hello,
Please excuse my lack of knowledge........
Basically I have finished my project, which was shot on a Panasonic AGHMC41E and edited on FCP Studio, clips were format DVCProHD.
I am looking to find out the best quality Export Settings so I dont loose pic quality or encounter pixelation.
So the footage is HD but I only want it for SD DVD
I am looking for the QT Movie Setting Options for:
    Compression type:
    Motion:
Date Rate: ie restrict too etc..
    Additional advice is welcome....

If your audio has an issue which remains consistent throughout the track, then just deal with it in the timeline using FCP Audio filters. However, for intermittent audio harshness, you will want to export your audio into Soundtrack Pro.
Go through the audio looking at the Spectrum View, narrowing the frequency spectrum a bit so you can see what you're doing, like 80 - 10K. The "harsh sounding" audio will show a bright color. In my setup, that color is yellow. Draw rectangular boxes around the yellow audio "clouds" and reduce the Amplitude by a percentage, but not too much!
The audio should sound better after the offending frequencies have been reduced to an appropriate level. Just don't make your rectangles too tall because tallness means a wider swath of the frequency spectrum will be affected and it can begin to sound noticeably weird, so be careful. The affect should sound smooth when you play it back.
    I hope that helps.

  • Only audio transferring to timeline for edit

Got a weird situation. Halfway through editing a concert with two cameras, suddenly the rover camera footage will not transfer to timeline. I have the still camera footage and then I put ins/outs in the viewer for rover footage and then drop them into timeline on a track atop other footage. Done this for a few years, no problems. And it is not the entire footage on this project because I already did about 33 minutes of this project like that. Now, when I set in and out in viewer and then drop onto timeline, only the audio tracks of new footage shows up. Any idea why all of the sudden this is happening? Thanks

    plang wrote:
Yeah, everything is same as always. Just opened another project and took another clip and placed on top of still camera and works as should. I just started reloading the footage again, maybe it lost timecode when capturing. Usually it will stop the capture if this happens, but can't think of anything else that it could be.
Timecode is not related in any way. The statement implies much.
don't invest much effort in recapturing footage, just do a short clip. Let us know if recapturing a short clip solves this for you.

  • Sequence settings for 1080p25 footage?

    Dear all,
I'm using Final Cut Pro 7 on a Macbook Pro.
I have shot some footage on 1080p25 but there is no East set-up or sequence setting specifically for this in the menu.
Can someone tell me which is the best sequence or project setting to edit this footage in?
    Thank you,
    Richard O'Sullivan

    Hi,
In reference to the question above, I should have added that I shot the 1080p25 HD footage with the Panasonic HVX 200 and it is DVCPro HD.
    Thanks,

  • Hi there - footage shot from iphone 4 and iphone 5

I am trying to edit together footage shot from iphone 4 and iphone 5 - one set of footage is 1280x720 and the other clip is 640x480 - do I have any options to make the one clip that is a different size match to the others

Damage is always a possibility. But Proximity Sensor issues occur with iPhones. There can be several problems, but the current one most are experiencing is too much light or motion is getting through the Front Glass Sensor Hole. The fix is to partially cover the sensors and only allow them small (just larger than pinpoint holes) to receive data. Youtube Videos show this fix, search there for examples.

  • Best way to log footage shot on P2 Cards?

What is the best way to send footage shot on P2 cards to an offsite location for logging and transcribing? Any suggestions on converting the MXF files to MOV or other formats without having to buy a $600 program would be appreciated.

Import into FCP. String out on a timeline. Add the TIMECODE READER to all the clips so the loggers can SEE the timecode. Output to DVD via a capture card to a DVD Recorder.
    Or...
Import into FCP. String out on a timeline. Export a reference movie. Take into Compressor, add the TIMECODE READER in the FILTERS area, encode for DVD.
    Or...
Purchase Proxymill from www.imagineproducts.com. Have it make low res quicktime movies with burned in code of all the footage. Burn those files to a data DVD. Mind you, this means that every start/stop of the camera will be a separate file...just as they appear in FCP. But this is quick, runs in the background, and doesn't tie up an edit station.
