Need to edit footage shot in anamorphic/Sqeeze with footage shot widescreen

Okay, so I had two DPs who were supposed to sync the footage specs and didn't. Now I have part of the project that was shot in anamorphic/squeeze on dvx100a and then part of the footage shot in regular widescreen 16x9 on dvx100a. I've been told those are two different pixel ratios... how do I do this?
Help. Under deadline for dvd distribution for this web series. Thanks!

Hey Shawn.. for sure, I am going to edit it in final cut but the first part of the project, the sequence setting had to be set to anamorphic. When I do that for the second half shot in widescreen, it distorts it.
I'm not sure how to solve that, since the output to digibeta has to be continuous. If I do a sequence in anamorphic, the widescreen distorts, and visa versa.
Any suggestions for that?

  • Edit footage shot from canon 60D

    Hi,
I am new to dslr video shooting. I want to edit the footage I shot with the canon 60D. I have some problems withe settings. I know that canon 60D shot in h264 so I have converted my footage to apple prores 422 (HQ)...I was wondering what setting should I set for the easy set up? I am not sure what should I set. I shot the footage in 1920 24p. And also, if i finish edting, do i just use the quicktime conversion and export the video to h264 again? or there is other setting? thanks!

That was overkill for the video produced by your camera. If you are using a recent edition of Final Cut Studio, you could have chosen Pro Res LT which would have given equal picture quality/FCP compatibility, in much less disk space.
I was wondering what setting should I set for the easy set up?
You don't need to worry about Easy Set Up as that is primarily designed to assist in the setup to capture material from tape.
Create a project, import you converted footage, and the first time you drag or edit an imported clip to your timeline, FCP will offer to match your sequence settings to your source footage. Say Yes and you should be ready to go.
And also, if i finish edting, do i just use the quicktime conversion and export the video to h264 again?
The answer to this depends on how you intend to use your edited video - are you planning on posting it on the web? The end use will dictate what format you convert your edited footage to.

I shot some DV tape in a 4:3 camera with an anamorphic adapter. I want to edit this footage in Premeire CS4, but I can't figure out how to convert the footage to it's 16:9 format. Please advise! Thanks, John

    Capture footage like always.
Select all clips in project panel and set interprete footage to widescreen.
    Finally make your sequence widescreen.
    Ready to go.

One small correction-- you do not use File-->Import. You must use Log and Transfer in FCP 7 or Import From Camera/Import Media in FCP X. In FCP 7 the clips will be automatically converted to ProRes upon import. In FCP X you can choose to work with the native files (re-wrapped to .mov) or you can optionally transcode to ProRes. When importing in FCP X, enable the 'create optimized media files' option to convert to ProRes. If you do not enable this option the files will remain in their native codec.

Thanks Richarad ..It has solved the problem but still crashes some times .As the programme has the break (bumper)after every five minutes ,i hope it will not compress bumper time too after export.

  • Importing and editing footage with two different cameras

I am editing a film that has footage caught and imported from two different cameras. Some of the footage is from a handheld HD camera that I have worked with before and use an "Easy Setup of Apple Intermediate Codec, 29.97 fps, HDV Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i60." I want to add some video footage that I shot with my Canon Rebel t2i. I searched a number of threads and concluded that when working with a project shot with the t2i, I should have the the Easy Setup be "HD, 29.97fps, DVCPRO HD 1080p30" (side question: is this correct?). My question is when starting a project where I will be using footage from both cameras, what Easy Setup should I use and is there anything else I should keep in mind?

Shane-- Thanks for the willingness to help. I am in Helena, but travel all over the state for work--I am a fly fishing and bird hunting guide who likes to do some amateur filming and editing on the side. Love Missoula, Bozeman, Flathead area, etc! And since you are willing to be so helpful, I guess I should start with a go Cats!
I am brand new to FCP, having previously worked a fair amount with FCE4. I actually do have FCP 7 and work with it on my Macbook Pro. My handheld camera is a JVC Everio that captures in AVCHD (1920x1080). I had my Easy Setup in FCE4 as Apple Intermediate Codec. If I use footage from this camera in FCP7, should I continue to do this?
So not only am I new to FCP7, but I just bought the T2i and really am not totally sure what I am doing yet. I just got the Canon EOS Movie Plug-in and modified it according to some threads I read so that it works for the T2i. I also found directions on the Canon website on the proper way to Log and Transfer for T2i footage (side question: can I dump the files off my T2i onto an external HD and then Log and Transfer them into FCP7 from the external, and is there anything I need to know about when doing this?)
So now that you know that I am very knew to FCP7 and the T2i, maybe I should start from scratch. When I log and transfer, what format should I use when I transcode? ProRes 442? And then, however you suggest I should transcode, what should my Easy Setup look like for footage from the T2i?
Wow, if you are still reading at this point, and I haven't exhausted you with all of my questions and naivety, my final question is...once I have become comfortable with importing and editing footage from the T2i, what should I do if I want to log and transfer and then edit footage from both cameras? Do I need to change the Easy Setup? Do I need to make other changes?
Thanks again in advance for all of your help and patience!!!

  • I am trying to edit footage in PE12 from 2 different cameras and the output looks terrible

I am trying to edit footage in PE12 from 2 different cameras. One is a canon HD video camera taking AVCHD at 1440x1080 at 29fps. I am also using a canon 70D DSLR taking a MOV at 1920x 1080 at 29FPS
I want to make a 2 camera angle video. When i import both videos into PE12 and edit them together (i am dropping in footage and editing them back to back on video/audio 1) and start rendering, the output video is horrible. there are no straight lines and its blurry. the source video looks great...I am wondering if the difference in size of the 2 videos are messing up the project. is there anything i could do to make the final video look better?
I am very new at using this program and any information would be helpful...
    thanks in advance,
    jason

    Both 1440 x 1080 HD anamorphic 16:9 (pixel aspect ratio = 1.33) and 1920 x 1080 16:9 (pixel aspect ratio = 1.0) have the same
display, that is, 1920 x 1080. Whether you use a project preset for either, the space established by the project preset in the Edit area
monitor is 1920 x 1080 for editing. So, we achieve the goal of a 1920 x 1080 Edit area monitor space in selecting the project preset cited
    above, that is
    NTSC
    DSLR
    1080p
    DSLR 1080p30
On the export side of things, it has long been suggested that 1440 x 1080 HD anamorphic content be exported with preset for 1920 x 1080 16:9
instead of 1440 x 1080 HD anamorphic 16:9 since both give the same display (1920 x 1080) and the choice 1920 x 1080 16:9 avoids the use of
a format that depends on a 16:9 flag to stretch the 1440 x 1080 for display after encoding. The latter has implications regarding issue of the player and recognition
    of the 16:9 flag.
So, we should be OK on the import and export choices.
What about what happens between import and export. You wrote
I tried this solution and it seemed like it helped at first but when the final project was done, it looked bad again.
How did the final product look bad....was it the 1440 x 1080 HD anamorphic 16:8, the 1920 x 1080 16:9, or both that presented poorly in the export
    which I am assuming was Publish+Share/Computer/AVCHD with Presets = MP4 H.264 1920 x 1080p30?
Depending on your further details, I have some suggestions for the Timeline content prior to export to file.
    Please review and consider.
    Thanks.

  • Quality of edited footage in FCE.

    Hi all,
I have recently posted a thread about an issue I am having with iMovieHD and edited HD footage from a Canon HV20 camcorder.
After importing the footage into iMovie and then adding simple transitions and titles, the resultant part of the edited footage loses some of the quality of the original footage. This is not noticed when playing back on my computer screen but it is visible when viewed on my 50" plasma TV.
I can find no answer as to why this is the case, but my question for this forum is to ask if FCE creates the same 'feature' with edited HD footage, specifically when paired with a Canon HV20.
Although I will continue to use iMovieHD (sparingly), I need to be sure that an investment in FCE will yield better results.
    Many thanks in advance.
    eMac   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   1GB RAM

    1) viewing the graphic on your computer monitor is viewing a low resolution proxy of the final product
    2) LiveType graphics are created in the animation codec which is high quality. Once you place it in your FCE timeline you will degrade that LT graphic to the level of quality set by your sequence setting.
    3) Use the .ipr file not QT conversion
    4) View the project on a broadcast monitor, and not the computer to get an accurate representation
    good luck

  • Capturing footage, editing, then reinserting edited footage.

does anyone know if its possible to capture a section of footage using a motion keyframe along a pathway, editing it and then reinserting it back into the motion keyframe pathway of the original footage????

thanks for reading my question and replying so quickly, sorry about the poor terminology.
essentially, what I'm trying to do with fcp is take a sequence of edited footage of different landscapes, add a chroma key sequence of a child "flying on a magic carpet" within the clip; not just edited straight in however....but added in on a motion path (i hope thats the right terminology), so the final product looks like a child on a carpet flying from a distance into the foreground of the shot.
so, i would like to know if it is possible to use the chroma key function at the same time i apply a motion path function, or if it is possible to extract a part of the footage along a motion path, take it out, apply a chroma key filter, then re insert it back into the original clip.......if that makes any sense??
again, thanks for your time and I appologise if I'm not clear with my explanation.

  • Editing footage/Importing Footage

    Hi everyone,
Hope you are all getting on well with snow leopard as I.
I am looking for a good way to store and edit footage on my MacBook Pro (specs are below).
    What I have available -
    - Sony AVCHD XR-520VE (MPEG-2 Recording - 16Mbit/Sec)
    - iMovie '09
    - iLife '09
    - Snow Leopard
    - 2.53Ghz, 4GB, 500GB
What I am capable of doing at the moment -
    - Importing and utilising iMovie '09 with the camcorder with no problems.
    What is my problem -
    - 42GB AVCHD turned into 300GB uncompressed .mov (MPEG-2) upon import into iMovie
    - I don't know how to import into iMovie using H.264 rather than just a .mov container.
I would therefore appreciate it if you could tell me how to do one of the following (I have no money available to solve this - an elgato h.264 turbo would go well with my diversity but I can't afford that)
    - To batch convert in quicktime retaining the quality that I see in iMovie (QTamateur produced horrible video quality)
    - Convert my RAW AVCHD footage straight to h.264 (again batch)
    Thanks,
    Fred

You need to convert it. You should be able to do it on a PC or you can use Flip4Mac to make it into QuickTime.

  • Published directly to YouTube - edited footage - How do I update?

I've used imovie 08 to publish directly to YouTube which works very well though decided I wanted to edit and update the file, and read the short info in their help files regarding further edits to files which states:
If you make further edits to your project in iMovie after you’ve published it to YouTube, the title bar indicates that your project is out of date and needs to be rendered again. Old versions of the movie are deleted and replaced by new ones when you render it again.
If you want to save the previous version of your movie before you edit it, you can do so by exporting it to the Finder.
Not exactly very helpful, so I edited footage of said file and clicked on Share > YouTube using the exact same file name, description and keywords, only to find that I had posted another copy onto YouTube.
Can anyone explain how to update (render) the footage already published to YouTube rather than creating a new file???
Any help on this is much appreciated!

  • Editing movies shot on a Samsung SC-X300

I'm purchasing a Samsung SC-X300L digital camcorder and know that it does not support Macs out of the box. Does anyone know what I have to do / download, to be able to edit movies shot with this camera on iMovie HD? I have VLC and some other software that I have used in the past to convert movie files shot with my Casio camera. Will this work, or is it more complicated for the Samsung?

    Hi,
You'll need the iPhone Transfer app available here.

  • Compression for ftp transfer before re-editing footage in FCP

    Hi to all,
I am soon going to be receiving DV footage daily, that is going to be sent via ftp transfer. I will then be editing that footage and posting it on the web.
The people sending the footage will have little internet access time during their trip.
Since the end result is for web purposes, i would like the shooters to compress their PAL footage in 320x240 before posting in on the ftp.
Would anyone have any suggestions as far as to what would be the most appropriate compression options out of FCP for it to be light enough to travel fast, and easily re-imported in FCP after arrival.
I would assume i would then calibrate my projet to the settings that have been sent, right?
    thanks for your help.
    Tee.

    Thanks for your answers.
I'm aware of the terrible quality loss that will be occurring.
The end format is for the web, and the idea is to keep a chronicle of the 2 week event, with a short video update.
The subject matter is what is of importance here. The event is a 2 week demonstration across europe against unemployment and growing social injustice.
It would be great to have more time and money to use the original footage (via fedex and later editing).
But i will try diffrent transfer options. One may work.
My main question is, (with this totally random example)
lets say i receive a compressed sorenson 3 .mov at 320x240 frame size, with a keyframe at every 15i, sound converted to stereo AAC at 96 kbps....
When i import that file in final cut,can i adjust my presets to match that?
Or will i need to edit in a DVPAL 720x576 preset, and render...
    thanks again;
    tee.

  • Using CS5 - need to edit and save pdf

I have a pdf file that is a sales flyer.  I need to edit just the first page of the 50 page pdf file.  I can open and edit page 1 no problem.  I need to know how to save it back into the complete pdf file as page 1.  Right now all I can figure out is how to save that individual page.
    Thanks for your help.

You cannot. You still need Acrobat or InDesign somewhere in there to merge your edited page back with the others. That being said, the whole thing could still explode in your face as PDFs are simply not meant to be editable work files...
