Setting up Oracle JVM and vendor Classes

Hello All,
I am trying to setup a Java Stored Procedure that
writes messages to IBM MQSeries Queue. MQSeries has
three client jar files (these jar files use CORBA
classes which are part of the JDK installation).
This Java client works well outside Oracle but
we are getting exceptions such ClassNotFoundException.
Does has experience on setting up such classes
within Oracle JVM? Are there extra documenations
we can use to guide us in setting up?
Many thanks in advance.

What version of the Oracle database are you using? What version of the JDK do IBM's classes require? My hunch is that IBM's classes may require a more recent version of the JDK than is currently installed in your database.

  • Oracle JVM and Operating System JVM different?

    Are Oracle JVM and Operating System JVM different?
    For applying the DST patches if JVM is updated from OS patches do we need to apply any other jvm patches again?

    Hi,
    Yes, the OracleJVM is embedded in the RDBMS kernel and does not share any reference/components with the JDK (i.e., OS JVM); fwiw, you can learn more about OracleJVM (archtecture, memory management, security, threading, performance) in chapter two of my book.
    Regarding the DST patch, there is an RDBMS patch that should cover OracleJVM as well; Re: How to verify if the DST patch applied correctly or not.

    I want to know if we create new material and a new vendor, what are the setting needed like in J1ID etc. to purchase that new material from new vendor as a exciseble goods, if all the settings at plant and company code level have been made.
    regards,

    Hello,
    for new material and vendor -
    1) maitain excise details in J1ID.
    2) maitain master record for excise codnition if ur using TAXINN.
    no addintional settings required.

  • Can Oracle set up Oracle Apps and open to public?

    Some software packages are just too big or time-consuming to set up and play with. Some are not accessible to users without proper license. Oracle Applications have both of these properties. If Oracle can set up a test site anywhere and give non-sysadmin access to the OTN members, we can benefit by getting familiar with new features or some of the settings done by real experts, or refreshing memory if we haven't used it for a while. Ideally, also give UNIX/Linux shell access to us. HP/Compaq has Oracle test drive (www.testdrive.hp.com). But wouldn't it be better if Oracle does it?

    First it sets some environment variables in the shell.
    Then it removes a log file.
    Then it uses an obsolete tool to export some data.
    Then it displays the contents of the log file.
    Then it changes the present working directory.
    Then it lists the files in the directory.
    Then, presumably, it emails a copy of the log file somewhere.
    In 10gR2 I would suggest throwing it away and using a proper tool to do the job such as RMAN or DataPump.
    Additionally find someone to teach you how to navigate and perform basic tasks in Linux. This may help.

  • Same query returns differenent result sets in oracle 9i and 10g

    Could anyone please clarify the issue i am having on a query. I have query that is returning around 2000 records in oracle db 9.2.0.8.0, at the same time with same data if run on 10.2.0.1.0 is returning only 12 records.
    what might be the reason for this descrepancy, is something in 9i is considered differently in 10g?

  • How do I avoid re-entrant problems in Oracle JVM

    I have a Java program called LanguageFunctions. This Java program has several methods that translate the data within a String or CLOB. I want to use this Java program as a stored procedure, and specifically the methods as Oracle functions. I want this function to be accessed simultaneously without either re-entrant, lock or performance concerns. I want to be able to use the functions something like this:
    SELECT TO_CHINESE(VARCHARCOL1) FROM DUAL;
    SELECT TO_FINISH(CLOBCOL1) FROM DUAL;
    I am having trouble understanding the Java requirements for these methods. I am greatly concerned about multi-user usage and issues with re-entrant code. Does this have to be a static class? If not, how when and where does it get instantiated (I hope not for every invocation of the function)? How to I avoid having one user accidentally changing the data within the method when executed in parallel?
    BTW: I have successfully moved these into the Oracle JVM, and executed them as a single user. My main concern is the re-entrant code issues.
    Thanks

    Thanks for the reply, I meant no disrespect, I was just trying to be a little funny...
    I did read that any method that you want to use as an Oracle function must be static. So I understand that as a given. However, the class I am converting uses static Class variables. You can see this in the example as the textOut variable.
    When two users are accessing this function in parallel, I could see the following series of events ocurring, and it is my concern. There is only one textOut, and I believe it can be modifed by both functions simultanesouly with unexpected results. I'm assuming my for loop is set to x < 2.
    SessionA issues: SELECT TO_DANISH('HELLO') FROM DUAL;
       A --> textOut = ""
       A --> textOut = "HELLO"
       A --> textOut = "HELLOxy"
       A --> textOut = "HELLOxyxy"
    SessionB issues: SELECT TO_DANISH('GOODBYE') FROM DUAL;
       B --> textOut = ""
       A --> textOut = "xy"
       B --> textOut = "GOODBYE"
       A --> textOut = "GOODBYExy"
    Session A returns: "GOODBYExy"     (expected "HELLOxyxy")
       B --> textOut = "GOODBYExyxy"
       B --> textOut = "GOODBYExyxyxy"
    Session B returns: "GOODBYExyxyxy" (expected "GOODBYExyxy")I'm I correct in my assumption that this is an issue? If so, what type of programm architecture would be best to use to manage this? I've tried to provide a simple working example of the issue, but the program that I'm working on actually alters the contents of textOut (as a static Class variable) in 5 or 6 different methods, including one method using recursion. I know I may need to make changes to the program architecture to make it work properly in a multi-user environment as an Oracle function. I'm just a little confused on what the appropriate architecture is. Once again any help is appreciated!

  • How to download Oracle JVM?

    Hi,
    Could somebody please send me a link for downloading Oracle JVM?
    I have setup Oracle Database Express Edition on my machine, but its missing the JVM. Could you point me to the documentation on setting up Oracle JVM with Oracle DB XE?
    Thanks,
    Prashant.

    Hi
    It's not possible to download and separately install OracleJVM.
    As you can read in the following document OracleJVM is not available in XE.

  • Oracle Replication and SQL*Load direct Path

    We are setting up Oracle replication and have a few tables which are loaded using SQL*Loader Direct path. I have following questions:
    1. Can MultiMaster replication replicate direct patch sqlloaded data.
    2. If the answer to the above question is no, should we set up a new snapshot replication group . All other tables are in the Multi Master replication.
    3. Another question is on the number of replication groups. How many of these we should create. We have total of about 500 tables and database size is about 450 Gig. We plan to replicate all the tables and the refresh interval we want to be one minute for all the tables. Does having more/less replication groups help??
    Thanks for your help

    We are setting up Oracle replication and have a few tables which are loaded using SQL*Loader Direct path. I have following questions:
    1. Can MultiMaster replication replicate direct patch sqlloaded data.Yes, I don't think it should matter how the table is getting updated.
    2. If the answer to the above question is no, should we set up a new snapshot replication group . All other tables are in the Multi Master replication.see above
    3. Another question is on the number of replication groups. How many of these we should create. We have total of about 500 tables and database size is about 450 Gig. Thanks for your help I believe what Oracle recommends is that you split up your tables into replication groups transactionally. I personally have 6 replication groups supporting 700+ tables. They are broken up more by business function than by number and size.

  • Setting max heap in Oracle JVM

    Hello -
    I'm having a problem with a Java stored procedure running out of heap memory in Oracle 10g running Java 1.4.
    Normally (running Java in a standard context) I would just modify the -Xmx with a higher value, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to do it in a stored procedure context.
    I have browsed Google and I have browsed the Oracle JVM installation stuff, all to no avail.
    Can anyone help me with how to set my max heap size, or verify that it's impossible? I have taken all of the standard Oracle memory parameters (JAVA_POOL, UGA/PGA/SGA limits) out of the picture by jacking them up and keeping an eye on memory values up to the point that the procedure fails (at ~700m), so I'm pretty sure that this is my problem.
    So far I have looked at:
    Config files
    Config tables
    DB parameters
    I haven't been able to find anything remotely related to JVM option configuration in any of the above.
    It is worth noting that I ran across another forum where someone was wanting to set their minimum heap size, and they were told that it was not possible. I'm just having trouble believing that it's the same story with something as critical as max heap size.
    Much obliged for any help.
    Thanks,
    Annaka

    From Metalink Note 466112.1:
    Applies to:
    Oracle Server - Enterprise Edition - Version: 9.2.0.1 to 10.2.0.3
    This problem can occur on any platform.
    Symptoms
    When attempting to execute a java class that works fine in a stand alone JVM, fails with Oracle JVM with the following error:
    ERROR
    ORA-29532: Java call terminated by uncaught Java exception:
    java.lang.OutOfMemoryError
    ORA-06512: at "IDS_SYS.POD", line 3
    Cause
    The MaxMemorySize was set 256M (the default values) where the JSO needs memory more than 256 MB to run.
    This can be checked as following:
    SQL> create or replace function getMaxMemorySize return number
    2 is language java name
    3 'oracle.aurora.vm.OracleRuntime.getMaxMemorySize() returns long';
    4 /
    Function created.
    SQL> select getMaxMemorySize from dual;
    GETMAXMEMORYSIZE
    268435456
    After increasing the MaxMemorySize to a larger value(1 GB), the problem was fixed
    Solution
    Please increase the MaxMemorySize to a larger values(i.e. 1GB), this can be done as following:
    SQL> create or replace function setMaxMemorySize(num number) return number
    2 is language java name
    3 'oracle.aurora.vm.OracleRuntime.setMaxMemorySize(long) returns long';
    4 /
    Function created.
    SQL> select setMaxMemorySize(1024*1024*1024) from dual;
    SETMAXMEMORYSIZE(1024*1024*1024)
    Then you can check if the value is set correctly using the following:
    SQL> select getMaxMemorySize from dual;
    GETMAXMEMORYSIZE
    1073741824
    In my case I had to set the parameter within a job's the session.

  • Help, how to install jvm and set the classpath using a batch file

    hello,
    i have created my java application and now have to create an installable / batch file which will install the JVM on the users machine and also the java packages such as javamail and the class files that i have created . it also has to set the classpath.
    i would like to know if anyone can tell me how to go about iti.e. how can i install the JVM using a batch file and then place the javamial packages etc in the apropriate directory .
    or is it advisable to explain it to the user how to go about it in tht user manual.
    and would also like to know that if i install the JVM will the path for the java.exe be set
    or will i have to set the path explicitly from the "batch file" so that the user can run the application without and problem just by running the java command followed by filename from the command prompt.

    hi,
    I have windows and I use it.
    The only problem with the free edition is that you can only create 1 launcher and that during the installation you get 1 popup showing that the installer was created with an unregistered version.

  • Oracle 9i and JRE1.4.2.10 classes

    after an unsuccessful attempt to use the DBMS_OBFUSCATION_TOOLKIT DE3Decrypt routine to decrypt encrypted data saved by Java program (using javax.crypto and sun.misc), I am trying to import those classes into ORACLE 9i and call the Java APIs from PL/SQL ; the classes being used are from JRE1.4.2.5 and are from the javax.crypto.* and sun.misc.* packages ; so I am trying to use the loadjava utility to import the classes into an ORACLE schema...and getting errors ORA-29521 (example -- referenced name java/lang/AssertionError could not be found) and also ORA-29545 (badly formed class) ; can I import classes from JRE1.4.2.5 into Oracle 9i? what version of JVM does Oracle 9i have? thank you so much for your help!

    Hi sabraha:
    AFAIK the JDK included into JVM is:
    9i 1.3
    10g 1.4
    11g 1.5
    But I am not complete sure because my experience with 9i was a long time ago.
    So you need a javax.crypto package compiled and compatible with JDK 1.3, or better than this upgreade to 11g which Java support is really really fast :)
    Best regards, Marcelo.

  • Volumes and Qtrees set up for SAP and Oracle

    Hi Gurus
    I Need your help Please
    I need to get Volumes and Qtrees set up for SAP and Oracle.
    I found a document from NetApp that helped a lot about the structure.
    But what I donu2019t know and canu2019t find anywhere is sizing for the volumes and Qtrees.
    I really need some guidelines on sizing these below:
    FlexVol saplog
    /usr/sap/SID
    /usr/sap/trans
    /sapmnt/SID
    /home/SIDadm
    /oracle/SID
    /oracle/SID/origlogA
    /oracle/SID/origlogB
    /oracle/SID/oraarch
    /oracle/SID/sapreorg
    /oracle/SID/sapbackup
    /oracle/SID/saparch
    FlexVol sapdata
    /oracle/SID/sapdata1
    /oracle/SID/sapdata2
    /oracle/SID/sapdataN
    FlexVol mirrlogs
    /oracle/SID/mirrlogA
    /oracle/SID/mirrlogB
    Thanks and appreciate your help

    > I have gone through the Inst Guide and I was surprised to see only 50 MB for Oracle software directory ?
    Where did you read that?
    > The sizing given in Installation guide is for typical setup or do we need to size as per our requirement ?
    The sizing give there is for the initial system setup. It does not contain customer specific requirements.
    The usual process is:
    - you contact your hardware vendor
    - you use http://service.sap.com/quicksizer together with him and fill in the data
    - the hardware vendor will offer you the storage and the machines for the setup
    - the vendor configures with you the storage and the necessary filesystem layout based on that sizing
    Each customers setup is different and requires the experience and knowledge from the respective hardware vendor how to set up the system so it performs well.
    You can follow the suggestions given here, this will be enough for the initial setup but the system will grow. This is not taken into account in the installation guide because it's customer specific.

  • Can we use JVM and/or Oracle Multimedia with the Express Edition?

    Hi!
    I wonder if there is any way to instal/use/activate JVM (implement java classes) and/or Oracle Multimedia?
    I want to make a little application that would exploit those features ...
    Can we do this with Oracle Express?
    If so, how do I proceed?
    Thanks everyone.

    SadWell...
    i was surprised that I have'nt been ask for a licence code or something...That's part of Oracle's distribution concept - you need to think about proper licensing yourself, until you get an audit. As you already mentioned, there could be user licensing - hard to manage with entering codes. On the other hand, there are OTN licensed downloads for development and evaluation purposes that don't need a paid license. Oracle doesn't want to build different packages for that, so you get exactly the same software for development your paying customer has for production.
    So...
    So, knowing this, is it legal if I install it and exploit it for my own purposes?I recommend reading the OTN license you've accepted before downloading the files.
    As I indicated above, it will (usually) allow you develop any application using any database release (including SE or even EE), without additional licensing. You need to make sure you never actually do any productive or testing-like activity on instances that are used under that license. Note that OTN license does not include support, so you are not allowed to install any patch you may have obtained from MOS using one of your companies support ids on such an instance.
    is there any 'personnal' licence (less expensive that the $350 per user (minimum 5 users)) i can buy for myself to legally use it?If you think what you do is not covered by the OTN license, there is "Oracle Database Personal Edition". See [url http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/license.112/e10594/editions.htm#CJADFHGH]Database Licensing Information for details on the differences between the available database editions. According to the current price list, it's at $460 + $101.20 per year for support at the moment. The cheapest way to get a personal instance with access to patches & co.
    BTW: There is also Standard Edition One at $180 per user, but probably still a little too expensive for personal use, because the 5-users-rule applies.

  • Oracle XE and character set

    Hello all,
    I installed Oracle XE on RHEL 4 Linux and I found out that database character set is AL32UTF8. Does anyone know why oracle choose this character set? Maybe because of NLS_LANG env variable? Is it possible to change it to EE8ISO8859P2? Since database is still empty I can drop it and crate new database.
    Do you think it is possible to set some env variables and do new oracle xe instalation including database with iso charset?
    I want to have EE8ISO8859P2 charset because of doing exp/imp from another oracle iso db to oracle xe and it is much easier to do this without charset conversion.
    Any help will be appreciated.
    regards,
    Miha

    When you download XE, you have a choice - take the 'western european' character set download, or the 'unicode' download.
    No other choices.
