Settings for a widescreen project

Hi all
I assume this is a basic question which the answer perhaps is still easier. I´m a Premiere basic user
I´m trying to make widescreen projects and use Encore to export a DVD which the video fits perfectly LCDs and Widescreen Tvs...So my workflow is:
I´m starting new projects using the DV-NTSC Folder > Widescreen 48khz
The imported videos come from a mix of 2 Panasonics AGDVC20P and 1 Sony HD1000. Sony HD1000 records 16:9 and Panasonics 4:3 (I use a little zoom at Premiere to fit the screen).
After finishing the Premiere I render the project and go File > Adobe Dynamic Link > Send to Encore. Make the menus and build a DVD.
But the problem is: I perceive on my TV the image looks like 16:9 but black stripes still appears up and down the image (tested on various tvs and the same).
What Am I missing?
Should be a different size than 720x480 and Pixel aspect ratio 1,2121 as Widescreen DV profile set?
Anything at Encore?
Thank you a lot for the help.
Gustavo.

Gustavo,
Your end result should be DVD, which is 720 x 480 NTSC or 720 x 576 PAL.
Use a SD widescreen sequence setting and downrez your HDV or let the camera do that for you by capturing SD format. If you have captured HDV, you can either downrez by using Motion/Scale to fit your SD resolution or use Scale to frame. The latter has a small drawback in that it will result in small black bars left and right, that will normally not show up when played on a TV.

  • Selecting correct settings for a new project

I'm about to start my first project using Elements and the final output for the project will be need to be a H264 or a “WMV” file which which can be uploaded to an FTP site.  It will also be displayed in front of a group on a screen (size is 7.5’x10’.)
What is the most optimal project settings I should use when I start the new project?  Something in the AVCHD catagory?  (Using NTSC).
    Thanks!

Yes Premiere Elements has several H.264 options under the AVCHD tab including output at 1080p and 720p with various frame rates. If you only have Photoshop Elements you will be limited to making a wmv file. If you do have Premiere Elements you will get best advice at it’s own forum.

  • Sequence Settings for Computer-targeted Projects

    Hello,
It seems to me -based on a scan of the forum's topics- that there are many people who would like to use FCP for creating computer-targeted output, that use still images as the source material. That is, projects not destined for tape or broadcast, that were not shot on video. I realize there are 3rd party apps that do this sort of thing, but the reality is there's no need to spend more money. Creating Ken Burns type effects for example, is very easy to do in the Motion Tab. It's the related sequence settings and render settings that cause the real problems IMO.
For those who do this kind of work successfully on a regular basis, it would be good to create a list of settings that work well, so others can avoid the painful process of trial and error. Sadly the manual (great as it is) isn't much help on topics relating to still image projects. They mention things like square pixels or image size in passing, but they do not give examples of how to start this type of project from scratch.
So post away; let others know what settings work for you. If you can post the project type, source type, and then the settings, so much the better. Something like:
    Type: Web Slideshow
    Source: TIF, PSD
    Frame Size:
    Field Dominance:
    Timebase:
    Video settings:
    etc

Bogie: if some of the sequence settings listed are dependant on the imported material (think that's what you're saying), why are we even able to change them? I guess this is an Apple design issue but seems strange if they "are not part of the creation process", that they should be in the same panel as the other items that are, etc.< </div>
    Umm, no.
The question here asked about export settings, they did not ask about project or sequence settings. If you meant to ask about sequence settings, that's an entirely different thread and, frankly, it's all covered in the manuals.
To repeat what Zeb has said, because we can't quite seem to get us all speaking the same language here, use conventional, known formats for your production and creation of effects; DV is a great place to star because it's flexible and it's built into FCP (h264 is not a production format, Animation isn't either, nor is MPEG2).
Render your sequences and export them as self-contained movies. Bring them into Compressor and (doh!) open that manual for a few hours of casual and frustrating reading. Compressor is where you will create your transcoded, encoded and compressed movie for delivery to the Web.
What settings will you use in Compressor? Those are determined by your Web host's demands. The smoothest path to Web delivery is to give your Webhead a DV file and tell them to use their favorite compression and encoding tools to create their own favorite formats and bitrate settings.

  • Possible to lock *all* settings for a completed project?

    Hi
Once a project is completed is it possble to lock all the project settings?

I know that you can lock tracks, but that doesn't lock the parameters of things like "gain" plugins in the mixer settings. So I was wondering if there was a more general lock control option on everything
I suppose you could freeze tracks? That would basically lock all of your plug in settings, although I'm not exactly sure what you're trying to achieve.

  • Seq. Settings for DV Widescreen

So I am working on a tradeshow video, to be displayed on 16:9 monitors.
What are proper sequence settings in terms of pixel aspect ratios
    and frame size?
Is this considered anamorphic, meaning I need to check "anamorphic 16:9"?
I am not working with squeezed material, so I am thinking not.
I have an SD NTSC monitor with both 4:3 and 16:9 options, so 16:9
    appears letterboxed on that output.

Hay, So, you've asked too many questions to be answerd with a simple yes or no but, mostly, it's yes, like Nick says.
But here's what you want to do: Open the FCP manual and study the sections on anamorphic. Then open the DVDSP manual and study the sections on anamorphic.
Then burn a couple of test coasters.
For your 4x3 source video to fill a 16x9 display, it has to be pulled out at the edges. If it's going to to look normal as 16x9, it has to look tall and squished in 4x3. For you to produced 4x3 that is cropped for 16x9, you must make some interesting creative decisions and that's where things get really complicated. If you letterbox to crop to 16x9 aperture, you're throwing away half of your vertical resolution, half of the lines are black. Did you shoot to compose for the wide screen format? Probably not. If you scale your 720x480 vertically to fill a 16x9 aperture that might be 1080x720 or more, you lose your resolution anyway.
And that's only a one-paragraph compressed version of about fifty pages in the manuals.

  • HD capture/transfer settings for multitrack audio project

I have a video clip on my camcorder hard drive that I want to edit in FCP6. It was recorded in 5.1 surround with the built in mic and I would like to know what capture setting or preset to use so that I can send the audio to Soundtrack and edit the different channel levels so I can lower the levels on all channels except the center channel. The 'Easy Setup' is set for 'all formats' and use custom setup 'NTSC DV', rates are set for all. I've transferred other clips from my camcorder and the audio was captured in LR Stereo, but for this project I would like to edit each audio channel in the 5.1 configuration. I've been doing SD video for quite some time and I'm new to the HD stuff. Thanks for any and all helpful comments and suggestions.

You can't do it in FCP. I don't know any third party software that will let you convert the 5.1 to work in STP. You might try ClipWrap to see if it works. Sorry I can't help you.

  • Correct Export Settings for an HD project originating in Canon xh-a1

I have come to Premiere Pro from using Final Cut Express. I captured footage from my Canon XH-A1, edited it, added music and am now ready to export the file for both dvd and youtube.
Here is where my problems begin. I thought the Quicktime format would give me a preset for HD video. It does not. I looked at several alternatives and only succeeded in confusing myself.
    1) What would be the best setting to render a file to use for dvd creation?
    2) What would be the best setting for rendering a file to use for youtube video creation? The "B" section to that question would be " Is H264 where I should start when creating for youtube?
All help will be greatly appreciated. I tried using Lynda.com for this and not sure my answers work for this.

1 = MPEG2 DVD and import the two files (separate video and audio) into Encore for authoring

  • FCE4 settings for Canon HV30 project

Hi! I have recorded two DV tapes on my Canon HV30 using the "cine" setting recommendation, all HD and exporting HD/DV via firewire to my Mac. I am now testing the capture of the footage using the HDV – Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i60 but changed the frame rate to 25 in the window which altered the setting to 1080i50.
Is this accurate? I want to export this project to iDVD when completed.

From page 38 of the manual:
From page 102 of the manual:
It records at 1080i60. That is what you should be using.
The 24 progressive "look" is recorded on tape at 1080i60, it is not the actual frame rate of the tape.

  • Best export settings for HD video to DVD

hello, I now use premier pro cs5, from cs4 on my mac, love it, but I shoot with a cannon XL H1s HD video, my questiion is when viewing video from camera or on the screen in cs5, perfect hd picture, but when I export to DVD, i see in the media encoder if I choose mpeg2-DVD it goes output to 720x480, how do I export to dvd for the best HD seetings for DVD to get a HD playback on the DVD, now I see an OK video on the TV playback, but not the same as the original recording, can anyone help,, thanks in advance for any help.....

I found (via a friend who is experienced in Pr & En) that it all comes down to the export/authoring settings.
In Pr, my export settings needed to be adjusted as follows:
    Format: MPEG2-DVD
Preset: PAL Progressive Widescreen High Quality
Selected 'DVD' in the Basic Settings section of the
Multiplexer tab (this creates a single mpeg file rather than a m2v file which has a separate video and audio file)
Selected the highest possible quality (5) in the Basic Video Settings section of the Video tab, changed the TV Standard to PAL (to suit Australian TVs) and then
Set the minimum/target/maximum bitrate settings to 8Mbps (when I set it at 9Mbps, the final file had too high a bitrate for DVD)
In the Audio tab, I selected PCM as the audio type.
I also ensured that the Use Maximum Render Quality checkbox was ticked at the bottom of the export settings window.
    Then I exported.
    Once encoding was complete I opened Encore, started a new project, selected DVD as the authoring mode and PAL as the Television Standard within the Basic settings for the new project. I then imported the final mpeg file as a timeline into Encore, set all the appropriate first play/title button/end play functions as necessary, then I opened the Edit Quality Presets window from the File menu and made the following settings;
    Format: MPEG2-DVD
Presets: PAL DV High quality 8Mb CBR 1 Pass
Basic Video Settings - Quality: set to maximum (5)
Basic Video Settings - Field Order: None (Progressive)
Basic Video Settings - Pixel Aspect Ratio: Widescreen 16:9
Basic Video Settings - Bitrate Settings - Bitrate [Mbps]: set to maximum (9)
Basic Audio Settings - Audio Format Settings: Audio Format: PCM
    click OK
Then I authored the DVD and was quite pleased with the result. Still not quite to the quality I was hoping for (i.e. the quality of a DVD movie), but still a significant improvement on my initial attempts using default Pr & En settings.
    Hope it helps

  • Best FCP QT export settings for HD video to Keynote?

I am exporting 3-5 minute long HD video clips shot at 1080i and then deinterlaced in FCP. These short vids will be embedded within Keynote, which is starting to have a problem with these 1gb to 2gb files (when exported at h264.)
HDV already reduces image sharpness it is. I want to keep the quality/footage sharpness up as high as possible. The selected video size ends up being about 1065 x 569, but that is a size, not a sharpness, one of the things I always found confusing when referring to it as "resolution".
So what settings would you suggest when outputting via FCP?

I found (via a friend who is experienced in Pr & En) that it all comes down to the export/authoring settings.

  • Correct Format Settings for Import

I'm trying to figure out the correct settings for exporting a project from Avid Adrenaline to then import for iDVD at the best quality.
I've tried QT movie. It looks fine. Then I import it into iMovie to create chapters then to iDVD. The finished product has some issues playing back movement... most noticed in lip movement. Could iMovie be causing this problem?
    Thanks,

  • What settings for new clips in my project?

I have some new clips that I need to add to an existing project. The info for the existing project is
DV PAL anamorphic preset and the footage that has been imported and editited to the project was taken from my standard def DVD's and exported to quicktime using MPEG streamclip with these settings
    *Compression: Apple DV-PAL*
    *Frame-Size: 720x576*
    *Frame-Rate: 25*
    *Sound: Uncompressed Stereo 48kHz*
I have some new clips to add, which are HD and this is the info
    Video Tracks:
    h264, 1280 × 720, 30 fps, 9.69 Mbps
Is it best to use the same MPEG streamslips settings and export to Quicktime as per the original footage or is there a better way to preserve the higher quality of the HD file that will still work with the original footage in the project?
    Many thanks

I have followed the steps above but the quality is noticably worse than the rest of my footage in the project. I wonder if I am doing it correctly or if I should start a new project?
I export from mpeg streamclip to Apple DV/DVCPRO NTSC :Quality 100% 30 Frames Frame size 720 x 480
I then use JesDinterlacer to perform the standards conversion. I select output then export to quicktime movie and use these settings

  • Where can I change the font settings for the name of the month in iPhoto's calendar project?

where can I change the font settings for the name of the month in iPhoto's calendar project?  I just ordered two copies of a calendar I designed in iPhoto and was surprised to find that the calendar's months were printing in something like an Arial 10 pt font.  On previous calendars I've printer via iPhoto and Apple, the font was much larger.  I've tried every menu option in iPhoto and the Calendar Project program and can't find where this is modifyable. Which leads me to ask, what the heck happened here in the first place?  I did not consciously change the default.
I do remember that I got some notice when I first tried to print the calendar about the default font having been changed, but I don't know how this could have happened, and I didn't know what impact that had on the calendar until it was delivered.  I typically print about a dozen annual calendars but won't buy another until I've got a handle on this problem.  For the most part, the rest of the calendar is okay.
As a P.S. is there anywhere where one can get a power user's manual, or instruction on iPhoto?

"Maximum" and "12" usually refer to compression (influencing image quality and jpeg file size in bytes); and as Curt wrote, dpi is meaningless for display by and viewing in web browsers.  (It could be a different matter if you are uploading the jpeg files for someone to download from the web to print.)
What are the sequence of steps that you and your batch processing take from Bridge?
You can use call Photoshop's Image Processor from Bridge to create the jpeg files  (Tools > Photoshop > Image Processor).  In the Image Processor you can set jpeg compression, pixel dimensions if desired, also convert to sRGB (good idea for web display).  In my experience the image processor leaves unchanged whatever dpi is set in the source file; or, if none there as might be for a pdf, it will set the dpi value in your New Document Preset Print Resolution (from your Photoshop Units & Rulers preferences).
