Several .Mac group members working on one iWeb site

How could I do to allow another member of my dotmac group to edit our iWeb Site ?
Should I put the Domain file in iWeb/Groups/my_group/Documents and a link in the username/App Support/iWeb directory ?
Does this work ?
Is there a simple way for several people to work on one iWeb site via the internet ?

That's a pretty good workaround, but then you'd have to make sure that each person also has disabled the newer Arial fonts placed there by Microsoft or you'd have your pages rendered as text when published by one person and as graphics when published by another.
Plus, you'd have to manually make sure that only one person was editing it at a time. If you can work through these issues, then you may be able to get exactly what you want.

  • Can't Get Hyperlink To Work From One iWeb Site To Another

I created a "family" website, including a blog page. In a recent blog, I briefly announced that my two nieces just completed a two-week adventure in the African bush. I have created a second website using iWeb which is a simple photo page. I had hoped to hyperlink from my blog entry by saying that anyone interested in seeing the pictures of their trip "click here". I then used the Insert>Hyperlink>Choose dialog to place the URL of the second site as the hyperlink file.
No such luck. When the "click here" hyperlink is clicked in site #1 to navigate to site #2, all one gets is an error message.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Desktop G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

I found out what I was doing wrong. In the hyperlink window I was trying to type in the URL for the second website on iWeb. Instead, there are pull down menus to permit the selection of another iWeb page or site as the link. It's working smoothly now.

  • Working one iWeb site from two Macs

I have two Macs, and use my desktop for working at home, and my laptop for working away, or when on holiday for working with photographs and, hopefully, blogs. I set up my iWeb site initially using the desktop, and then tried to edit the site using my laptop, only to find that it cannot, seemingly, be done.
Help! Does anyone know how to edit one iWeb site from two machines, or is there, perhaps, a practicable workaround?

The answer is Domain.sites (extension hidden by default). You'll find this on your desktop machine at Users/YourUserName/Library/Application Support/iWeb. Copy that file to removable media and drag it to the same location on your laptop. Launch iWeb and you'll see your desktop site structure in the Site Organizer.
Once you keep the Domain package in sync between the two machines everything will work smoothly no matter which you use. There's a neat tip here which may help in this respect:

  • Two users on same machine working on same iWeb site

    Hi
We have two users on our new iMac because some things we want to keep separate. But we both want to work on our iWeb site when we feel like it, from our own account.
I copied the domains file into Users\Shared and it appeared we could both work on it from there. But then I found that each blog entry becomes only partially editable by the other user. iWeb doesn't complain when I save, but it isn't actually saving the changes to blog entries that were started by the other user.
Can anyone please help tell me how two users are supposed to work on the same iWeb blog? Thank you!

I would also like to know the answer to this.
    Thanks!

  • Server Group not working when one of Job Servers is down

I have a Server Group of two job servers. They have the same version 12.2.2.3 and are attached to the same Local Repository of version 12.2.2.0.
When I execute a batch job (from the Designer) and explicitly specify on which job server it should run, it works fine for either job server. Also, when I specify Batch Job execution on Server Group, it works fine.
However, when I shutdown one of the Job Servers, and then try to execute the job on Server Group, I'm getting two error messages, BODI-1111011 that one Job Server is down, and BODI-1111009 that another Job Server has failed.
At the same time, when I check the Server Group in the Management Console, it shows that the allegedly failed Job Server is in the status green.
That error is not reflected in a job server eveng log, nor there is anything written to webadmin log, not in the job trace (the latter isn't created at all).
Is there anything I can do at this point except raise a support message?

The issue was with different users for Local Repository in Admin and Job Server config. I discovered it when trying to run the job from Admin Console. Designer is probably not the best diagnostic tool for such kind of issues.

  • *** Publishing only one iweb site to .mac

I have a number of different sites creates in iWed that I normally upload to my own server and NOT my .mac account. I would like to clear my .mac space to 0 and then upload 1 of my entire movies there. I'd like to create the backdrop in iweb and publish this entire movie to my .mac account but I know that if I just go file>publish to .mac, that all my pages will upload to .mac.
Is there a manual way to control this? Ideally I'm hoping it's possible within iweb, but I'm guessing it's not. If it's not, will it work if I publish my pages to a folder, and then select my movie .html and files folder and manually drop them into my idisk/movies folder? Will that then publish only my movie site to my .mac account?
I'm not at the office today, so I'm just wondering if someone can give me a heads up if this may work. I'm trying to research in advance!
    Thanks everyone!

    Hi
Your iWeb sites are contained in a domain.sites file, which lives here:
    User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites
To separate sites, you need to have seperate domain files. You can do this by simply creating a second User Account on your Mac and creating the website there, and then use Publish to .mac.
Or you can swap out the domain files manually or use something like Domains Juggler, from Cyclosaurus.
There is some more info. on the How2 page of my site, www.willg4pb.com.

  • Classroom creating one iWeb site

I have a class of about 30 students. If I create one .Mac account, can they all post pages to a common iWeb site using the same account info?
Each student will have their own pages that they are responsible for, so overwriting pages by other students shouldn't be an issue.
Their domain files will travel with them as part of their networked accounts.
Would .Mac Groups help at all?

If you are using iWeb08, there will be difficulties encountered trying to publish from multiple Domain.sites files, (i.e., multiple computers), to the same .Mac directory. iWeb08 (2.0.1) will erase previously published sites on the iDisk with another site published from a separate Domain.
The easiest workaround is for the students to all configure their computers to the same .Mac account in System Preferences, and then from iWeb on their machines, publish their sites/pages to folders, using the Publish to a folder... command in the file menu. They would then drop these pages into the Sites directory on the iDisk, and the urls for these pages would simply be:
    homepage.mac.com/accountname/nameofpage
If you are wanting all of the students to be able to update the exact same site, they would all have to share the same Domain.sites file, which is not practical at all.
If they were all using iWeb 1.1.2, they could publish separate sites, from separate Domain.sites files, to the same .Mac space on the iDisk. They just need to make certain that each site is named differently...I can already see pranks executed, where a student learns/views the site name of another student, and then intentionally overwrites that site with another version of that site's name.
You sure you want to moderate such a situation?

  • How can I transfer JUST ONE IWeb site to another computer?

I am new to making IWeb sites and am now making them for
other people. I have about 10 sites in my IWeb folder and need to
be able to give a person's site to them.
I need to be able to transfer JUST ONE site to another computer.
Right now, I am only able to transfer ALL the sites I have made to
another mac and then, it wipes out all their sites! How can I prevent
the ultimate wipe out of all their iweb sites yet give them JUST ONE
    of mine?
    thank you in advance,
    Beth http://www.yourzensite.com

First, read Wyodor's post about changing the publishing settings HERE.
You can create the extra folders in Home Folder/Library/Application Support/iWeb or, as I do, in a folder named iWeb in the Home folder.
Create a folder for each website, give it a suitable name and paste the Domain.sites2 file with all the websites into each.
Open each one in turn, double click the Domain.sites2 file to launch it in iWeb, delete all the sites except the one whose name is the same as the folder name, save and quit.
Now you can launch any site individually in iWeb and sent a copy of the appropriate folder to the client.

  • How can I export one iWeb site (of two) out to another user

I am working in Lion. I created two iweb sites - one for me and one for another user. I am trying to export the files to that user so he can continue updates. But when i make copies of the site it is linked to my site. How do I separate and export the files to him? Thanks!

    HI Ben,
Unfortunately the other website - let's call it Charles - is not listed separately - it has somehow joined with mine. So if I delete his I delete mine. Something happened when I upgraded to Lion and they became joined' somehow.
I do see the file in Library but I still don't know how to separate them.
    Thanks!

  • Working with an iWeb site in Design view CS5

I brought in an iWeb site to Dreamweaver CS5 using the mange sites panel successfully with all assets.  The site is perfect in Live Mode but is not workable in Design Mode.  I have also FTP it to Business Catalyst and can see it in their design mode better than in Dreamweaver.  Any assistance that you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you

iWeb and other so called WYSIWYG web authoring systems typically use poor code and bad layout practices which will cause experienced web developers and DW to puke.
The only thing I can suggest is to validate your code & fix reported errors or re-build the site with DW.

  • Re Directing several domain names to one iweb site

Hello, what needs to happen on Apples' end so I may re direct several domain names that are parked at godaddy to the 1 web site I just set up with iweb? Thanks
    GMorton

Since there are three ways to use a personal domain, you should first decide what you want displayed in the browser address bar when your site is viewed. See THIS page under +"Chapter 1: What is a personal domain? What does it do?"+.
...When you've decided what you want to appear in the browser address bar, read the rest of that page and if you still have questions, post back here.

  • Can I and How do I copy from one iWeb site to another.

I currently have a few different versions of my web site stored as different doman.sites I would like to copy a blog entry from one into another. Is it possible to do that and if so how. I am sure I could copy all the text and all the pictures separtly and then paste them in, but that would be tendious as I would either have to keep opening and closing iWeb between the different versions or have them both open on separte accounts on my computer and keep jumping back and forth between them. Any suggestions? Let me know.

what exactly would I copy from one folder to another to be sure that the blog entry that I am copying shows up in the blog menu? I would like to be able to copy everything together, dates, links at the bottom, hit counter and all, rather than piece by piece off of the site or from another iWeb account. Thanks!

  • Transferring pages from one iweb site to another

Thank you for any feedback or suggestions.
I have finally gotten a separate .mac & iweb account for my business. Now I would like to take my business pages/site off my personal iweb account and transfer everything to the business iweb. How do you do that?
Following the threads on these forums I managed to get a second user, new .mac, etc. Thank you for all that help.

    Hi there,
The only way to move iWeb pages from one user account to another is to move the Domain.sites2 file where iWeb stores its files. To find that file go to
    User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain.sites2
If you can’t find it here search for it with spotlight. Note that the extension .sites (iWeb 1.0) or .sites2 (iWeb 2.0) may be hidden, also search for Domain only. To see if a Domain file is iWeb ’06 or iWeb ’08 select the file press Command(Apple)+i under "Name & Extension" you will find that it is .sites or .sites2.
Once you found it duplicate it (Command(Apple)+D). They are now completely independent from each other. So when you make a change to one site it will be saved only to that Domain file and not to the other.
Now take the copy of the Domain file and transfer it from one user account to the other.
To transfer your domain.sites2 file from one user account to the other you can put it on a USB-Stick, External Harddrive, on a CD/DVD or whatever. Not a great idea if you have a large Domain.sites2 is to send it by e-mail.
To get the site showing up in iWeb just open the Domain.sites file by double clicking on it and your sites and pages will show up on the left side in the iWeb page browser. Note that the location, where you put the file, doesn’t matter.
As you already created your and your business’ website they are both in the Domain file. What you then have to do, once you have it on both user accounts, is to delete your private website in business' account and the business' site in your private account. The rest will be preserved.
NOTE 1: Note that you have to change permissions of the Domain file to be able to edit, save changes and publish a website from another user account and from another computer as well.
Select Domain file press Command(Apple)+i under Ownership & Permissions go to =>Details =>Others and select Read & Write
You have to do that in the original user account and computer in which the Domain file was created.
If you don’t change permissions you will find an error while publishing and saving.
Remember to always have a Backup of both Domain files. It's REALLY important.

  • Menu buttons won't work after publishing iWeb site

Once i publish my site from iWeb and then go online to check the site, i try to navigate through my new site's pages by clicking each of the menu buttons at the top of the page. After I click one and the page changes, the menu buttons stop working and I can no longer navigate the site.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks

The Actor page still has some graphc/object partially overlapping those two links in the navbar. You can see it by going to that page and typing Command +A (select all). I couldn't determine which graphic file it was from the Activity window.
You may have to create a second actor page and copy and paste each item, one at a time to from the old to the new and publish to see if you can isolate the culprit.

  • Multiple Blogs on ONE iweb site?

Can someone please advise me if it's possible to install multiple blogs - which are written by different people - on the same site created using iweb?

Well, it should be possible, and it is, but there is some general trouble with blogs/comments/podcasts in iWeb3.
You can have a look at my site with two blogs. I don't know what causes the problem of disappearing index page images and faulty rss feeds, but it can't be the existance of two blogs on one site. It worked perfectly in iWeb2.
This is the blog that is creating problems, the one called 'blog' is ok:
    http://web.me.com/heli1/OneHundredPoems/%E3%83%96%E3%83%AD%E3%82%B0/%E3%83%96%E3%83%AD%E3%82%B0.html
Could it be the Japanese name that is causing trouble?
I don't think so, because I have another site with only one blog, and that is having the same trouble of misplaced images in the index page and bad rss feed.
You could try making two blogs and see what happens. I think it should not be a problem. However, having a blog in itself can be a problem.
We could compare results. Maybe I could learn a trick or two.
