Shared Variables stop working on cRIO-9074

I have a Dell E5540 laptop running W7 and LV 2013.  The project talks to a cRIO-9074.  I use a handful of shared variables to communicate some of the data between the two platforms.  I have gotten this all working fine.  Then twice, something has gone wrong.  The shared variables just stop communicating.  They are hosted on the laptop.  The host program sets them just fine.  The Distributed System Manager can monitor them and sees them change.  But the RT program never gets the new values.  The RT connection is fine.  I can probe into the running RT VI, and I see that the shared variables do not get the correct values.
The firewall is off.  I've undeployed and redeployed everything over and over.  Cycled power, rebooted, etc.
In both cases, I finally was able to fix the issue by re-installing the entire suite of NI software on the cRIO.  After I did that, the program started up and behaved fine.  I have no idea what triggered the failure in either case.  Also, I have a second laptop that I've used to verify that the problem is with the cRIO and not with the laptop.  When things are broken, it fails with both laptops.   As soon as I reinstall the software on the cRIO, both laptops work with it fine.
Has anyone seen this before?  Any ideas how the cRIO might be failing?  It seems like some software component on the cRIO must be getting corrupted, since the software reinstall is the only thing that fixes this.  Perhaps the cRIO is bad?  The one other possible clue I have is that during the second fix, I even went so far as to reformat the cRIO disk using MAX.  After the format worked for a while, it popped up an error saying that the format had failed.  But I was able to reconnect and reinstall the software and get things running.  I just wonder if that error code is another symptom of a bad piece of hardware...

Hello Dave,
You can try to pinpoint where the problem is with some tests. First, you could try running the real-time VI on your host instead and seeing if the problem with communication still occurs. Then if this seems to work fine, try running a LabVIEW shipping example for network shared variables on the host and target. One such example is Analog Input - Getting Started - Scan Mode.lvproj from the NI RIO driver.  If this succeeds, the problem is most likely with the LabVIEW application you have. However, if it fails there is a much higher chance that there is a problem with the cRIO.

  • Digital shared variables stop working

I have many shared variables bound to Fieldpoint channels with OPC (DSC 8.2). Sometimes, all the digital input and output variables stop working at the same time, with no apparent reason. In Variable Manager their quality shows as "subnormal". If i try to read/write any variable, i get error -1950679030 (Unspecified error) at ni_tagger_lv_read or ni_tagger_lv_write (writing works, though).
The Fieldpoints keep working perfectly and i can normally access all the channels in MAX, only shared variables don't work.
The variables never get to work again (it happened friday night last time, and i discovered it monday morning!), until their vaule changes. When the value of a digital channel changes, the bound shared variable starts working again, and its quality gets back to "good".
The only way to make all the variables work again is manually undeploy and redeploy the library. Any hint?

  • Shared variable architecture for distributed crio system

I have a distributed system consisting of 20 cRIOs and one central server running Windows XP. Each cRIO is a mix and match of AI, AO, DO, DI and TC modules. There are around 200 AI and TC channels and close to 100 AO, DO and DI channels. I need to acquire data from all the AI & TC channels at 10 Samples/sec and log them in the Server. In some cRIOs I have 2 to 3 PID loops, in addition to the data acquisition or generation code. Since a cRIO chassis can have only eight modules, certain PID loops will have to use data of channels that are available in other cRIOs. cRIOs can be turned ON and will be running even without the control server, but facility and test will be started only through the control server.
We have decide to use LabVIEW DSC for this application and shared variable for data transfer, logging and alarm. We are using the following SV architecture.
    1. Each cRIO will have its own RT shared variables for AI, AO, DI, DO and TC parameters
    2. Each AI and AO parameter shared variable in RT will have its corresponding host shared variable which will be bound to the RT Shared variable. In host shared variable we are enabling logging and alarm option for variables corresponding AI parameters.
    3. In cRIO RT, data is read from the FPGA (using FIFO every 500ms, and we get 5 Samples for each channel) in binary format and scaling is done. After scaling we are updating the corresponding AI RT shared variables using DataSocket write in a loop. In any cRIO there will be only a maximum of 32 AI or TC parameters.
    4.  The server has a mimic panel where we need to display the status of DIs and allow the user to turn ON and OFF DOs. For the we decided to use Front panel DataSocket binding.
I would like to know whether there is any better shared variable architecture that we can follow. Considering the number of variable that we are using, will the current architecture cause any performance issues?
    Thanks!

    Hi Mike,
Looks like you are lucky as you can make use of the great feature available in 8.6. Over here I have 8.5.1 so got to do some of the things the 'hard' way But I must say, 8.5.1 is the so far the best version of LabVIEW I have worked after 7.1 as the crashes are less and less frequent.
BTW I faced some problems directly dragging and dropping an RT SV node  to Windows. If the RT code is running and if you try to run the Windows code, it was asking to stop the code running in RT. That's one reason I had to duplicate some RT Shared variable in host and bind them to corresponding RT Shared variables.
This is the first time I am handling this many number of shared variables. In case I come across some issues, I will post them here.

  • Internet sharing suddenly stopped working - please help!

I have been sharing my internet for weeks from my computer but this morning it suddenly stopped working. I've tried changing the password, changing the channel number, and changing the Network name to a simple one, but it is all not working Apparently the authentication server is not responding? How can I fix that?

I'm having the same problem. I had internet sharing set up on my iMac from Ethernet via AirPort, and received quite well on my MacBook and iPod Touch, and then one day, it just stopped working. I'm assuming that some update or other caused this problem, but I have no idea which (I mostly use the internet on my desktop machine, so it may have been several days before I noticed the problem). I've tried with-and-without a password, and also tried sharing from my MacBook to the iMac and iPod Touch, and I can't get any bandwidth (I can connect to the 802.11 network that I create, but I can't get any internet through it).

  • I/o server shared variable not working in deployment system ( error no-1950679034 (0x8BBB0006) (Warning))

    Hello ,
am using shared variable from opc client in labview when am run a exe file at development system its working fine but when am running it in deployment system its not working am using same configuration file in opc server at development and deployment system error -1950679034 (0x8BBB0006) (Warning)

First Root cause needs to be identified before any actions.
I would suggest first check if you can access the shared variable hosted in PC from RT using other ways like using SVE API (Logos and PS protocols, Datasocket etc..)
Check if antivirus or firewall is playing...
Check the same experiment with some other PC if you can.
You can also try creating another Shared Variable in RT and binding the same to the PC and try to access it...
Since you have did all the reinstallations already
    Best Regards,
    Vijay.

  • Shared variables not working on PC

Can anyone tell from the attached screen shot, why my one shared variable is not working with the labview application I'm running on my PC. I set the variable to 48 (I thought), and yet in the NI Distributed System Manager the value doesn't changed.
    Solved!

Its not likely to be a deadband problem if you haven't touched the settings. I would check it out just in case though. In the project window, right click on the shared variable>>properties and select Update Deadband. See attached image. If it's not this, I shall have to think some more about what else could cause this.
As for ensuring it works when setting it from DSM...from your screenshot you appear to have a VI that writes to the SV. Change the code ore create a new VI so that it reads the SV and then double check that if you change the value in DSM, the VI also reads back the updated value. It may be that the number changes in DSM but does not update the SV in the VI - this would indicate a problem with the shared variable engine or the deployed variable library...Reboot PC and retry... if the problem persists let me know or attach the SV library!

  • File sharing randomly stops working

    Hi guys,
For some reason every once in a while the file sharing on my iMac stops working and to get it working again I need to untick and then re-tick "File Sharing"  in the "Sharing" pane in Preferences.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Tom

Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved. Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
Delete all sharepoints in the File Sharing tab of the Sharing preference pane. Recreate them one at a time and test each one.
    Step 2
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, select the startup volume, and run Repair Disk (not  Repair Permissions.) If any problems are found, repeat. Then reboot as usual.
If any sharepoints are on a different volume, repair it too.
    Step 3
Boot the server in safe mode and test. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. After testing, reboot as usual and verify that you still have the problem.
    Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.ByteRangeLocking.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. Repeat with this line:
    /var/db/BRLM.db
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 5
Reinstall the OS. You don't need to erase the startup volume, and you won't need your backup unless something goes wrong. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.
If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it.

  • Shared Photostream stopped working

My wife and I each have a shared photostream that we use to share photos.  This worked perfectly for a while, but has now stopped working.  Currently, if either of us upload a photo to our respective photostream, the other isn't notified, and those pictures don't show up on their phone.  I tried unsubscribing and resubscribing, which did nothing.  I did completely delete the photostream and create a new one, which worked for about a day, and then stopped again.  Any ideas?
We're both using iOS 6, her on an iPhone 4 and myself on a 5.

I inadvertently solved the issue on my own.  I realized that my wife's phone was nearly out of storage space, which was preventing photos from being added to the photostream.  I didn't realize that when you add a picture to a shared photostream it actually puts that photo on your phone twice, taking up more space.  So she couldn't add to hers, and she couldn't get the ones I was adding.  We removed some items from her phone to free up space, and then started getting notifications of photos added on both our phones.

  • Windows sharing (smb) stopped working

    Hello,
At work we have a huge network of windows computers. I access most of them on a daily basis, and there's one I'm connected to all the time, both to the filesystem and the windows printer.
All other computers work fine but this one in particular is giving me a headache. YEsterday, all of a sudden and with no configuration change on either my mac or the windows machine, samba stopped working.
When I'm asked my username and password, no matter what I type, I get a "unauthorised access". It didn't use to matter what I typed in there .. as long as the username field wasn't empty, the windows machine would accept it. Now it doesn't.
As I said, I can access other computers just fine.
Any ideas how to fix this?

    This is so strange.
I created a user account on the Windows machine and I could access it through my mac.
10 minutes later I tried again and again the same error. Even though the user account and password are correct.

  • Why did Home Sharing suddenly stop working for PC libraries?

BACKGROUND: Ecosystem consisting of one PC with medium-sized iTunes library (7,000+ songs and 3,000+ photos), 2 Mac Minis, two MacBook Airs, Apple TV 2, Airport Extreme Base Station, Airport Express in extender mode, Windows Home Server 2003 with iTunes server module, iPhone 4s and iPad 2.
All the latest updates installed. Airplay, Photostream, iCloud and Home Sharing all installed and everything working happily, as advertised. I've had other issues, like everyone else, but Home Sharing has worked pretty much without fail for as long as I can remember -- years.
THEN,  SUDDENLY: On the evening evening of Sunday October 23, 20011, Apple TV stops seeing "Arthur's Library" -- my main library, located in the latest update of iTunes, on my PC.
AND IT VANISHES ELSEWHERE: I click on "Arthur's Library" and the B&W "wheel" ground for about ten seconds -- then the library disappeared. Figuring it might be an Apple Tv issuem I opened my Air, loaded iTunes, attempted to load "Arthurs Library" and the same thing happened. Library just disappeared.
So I go to my PC and fiddlewith iTunes.
Turn off home sharing, reboot for the heck of it, turn home sharing back on.
And the library reappears on Apple TV and other home share devices...
Only to DISAPPEAR when I tried to load it, exactly as before!
So I dutifully go through all the other trouble-shooting steps suggested by the oft-quoted Apple Support article, plus some others:
    1. I turn off photo sharing, because I had been doing this over the weekend, just prior to failure of home sharing. No dice.
    2. Power off both routers. Wait. Restart. No joy.
    3. Check firewall settings. All as they should be,
    i
    * I kind of doubt it's a router issue, because home sharing works just fine with the Macs.
    * Kind of doubt it's an interference issue, because Airplay from my iPhone and iPad to the Apple TV works like a charm.
    * Can't think of any updates of any kind installed in between "all systems go" and "FAIL"
ANOTHER CLUE? The little "Airplay" icon that normally appears in the bottom right-hand corner of ITunes on my PC has disappeared. So maybe the issue is BONJOUR? Okay, I go into Services, and Bonjour is running. I stop it, restart it, then restart iTunes on my OC, ditto on my MacBook Air. No joy. And now, as I'm writing this, I notice a...
SECOND MYSTERY! Suddenly, my Mac can't load the library from my Windows Home Server 2003 installation, which has NOTHING TO DO with Home Sharing. This thing has ALWAYS worked everywhere before. Now the wheel just grinds endlessly, whenever I try to load the library on my server.
I'm out of my depth, guys. HELP! And thanks in advance for your time and advice.

Well, the first problem resolved itself just as mysteriously as it arrived, spurred perhaps by yet another Windows patch or Who Knows What. The second problem persists. Suggestions?

  • Internet sharing has stopped working after 10.8.2 upgrade

Hi.  So, for the past year, I've been receiving WiFi internet on my iMac, and sharing it via ethernet and sometimes FW800.  Lately, mostly just ethernet.  As of 10.8.2, this has stopped functioning.  I have heard many rumors about internet sharing issues in the update, but it seems I am in the extreme minority in terms of sharing internet via ethernet rather than sharing it via WiFi.
For the record, what I have tried so far is, enabling and disabling all options, trashing preferences, creating a second administrator account on the iMac and trying from that one, switching multiple ethernet cables just in case, and even switching to a different wireless network (we have two in my home on different wavelengths).  It's always the same: devices recognize that they're connected to the ethernet port on the iMac.  The iMac recognizes it's connected to them.  They can obtain their own IP addresses through DHCP, but they cannot, under any circumstances, actually connect to the internet.
Please help!  I'm tearing my hair out over here, as this was crucial to my setup.  Updates shouldn't work this way.

As with other situations where a window is not visible, it is likely just off-screen where you can't see it. If your main "Final Cut Pro" window becomes inactive (close, minimize, and zoom buttons turn grey) when you attempt to open the "Background Tasks" window, this indicates that the window is definitely opened, it's just offscreen somewhere.
You can solve this problem by forcing FCPX to gather up all of its windows without having to delete your preferences:
    1. Attempt to open the Background Tasks window in FCPX,
    2. Switch to System Preferences->Displays and change your display resolution,
    3. Switch back to FCPX and verify that you now have your missing window back,
    4. Switch back to System Preferences and change your resolution back to its previous setting (likely the "Best for display" radio button).

  • Network shared printers stop working; default printer changes

    Hello,
Have an odd printing issue that seems to be ongoing and am trying to come up with a good solution or fix for it.
We have an environment that has a Windows 2012R2 Print Server, that is sharing various printers which are also set to List in Directory.  Some of the printers are HP and are using the HP Universal driver which shows as "True" for Packaged in
the print management window, and some of the printers are Canon which are using device specific drivers and show as "False" for Packaged.  My understanding is that the packaged attribute simply indicates that Point and Print can then download
the driver and install/use it without any security prompts whereas if it is not Packaged, then the driver must be installed on the local server/workstation by an Administrator.  We have Group Policy defined such that all Point and Print restrictions are
    Disabled.
We then have multiple Remote Desktop Session Hosts based on Server 2008R2 (x64).  Users connect to these hosts via thin clients (Wyse) and there is a domain login script using KiXtart that creates printer connections to the shared printers using an address
of \\printserver\printername.  We also set the default printer via the login script each time depending on user's group membership.
Each part of this setup is on it's own routed VLAN subnet, so the Print Server is on 192.168.0.x/24, RDSHs are on 192.168.1.x/24 and the printers themselves are on 192.168.2.x/24.  There is no firewall or other restrictions between the subnets, all traffic
    is allowed to flow.
The issue we are having is two parts, the first is the larger issue, but both are a pain:
    1) Randomly (no discernible pattern/reason/timeframe), some Canon printers will stop appearing in Print dialog boxes from applications when a user tries to print.  It only seems to happen on the Canon printers.  The printer will still show in Control
Panel -> Devices and Printers, but when you right click it and try to go to Printer Properties or view any of the printer settings, you'll get an error saying the printer is not accessible/valid.  I have also tried a WMI query for "select * from
win32_printer" and the printer will not be returned.  To temporarily fix it, we right click the printer, and choose to remove it and then go through the wizard to re-add the same printer from the directory again.  That will correct it and the
user can print again, view all properties, etc.  This doesn't happen to every user but happens sporadically and once it happens to a user it seems to pop up once every week or two.
Now, we have made a change and installed the Canon printers in question locally on the Remote Desktop Session Hosts themselves using TCP/IP ports so that each user logging into the session host will see all of the printers.  This also seems to have resolved
this issue.  So it leads me to think there is some sort of timeout or connection getting dropped, but for no real apparent reason.  This is all on a virtualized platform and so the Print Server and Session Hosts have very reliable LAN connections
amongst themselves.  And further, we never see the issue with the HP printers, they seem to maintain their stability at all times.
    2) The other issue we are seeing is that from time to time the default printer setting changes or vanishes altogether.  It doesn't happen to every user but once it does happen it happens regularly (multiple times a day).  This happens even when using
the locally mapped TCP/IP printer or when using the network print server.  From what I have read and found, this generally seems to be a known issue regarding redirected client printers and some GP settings related thereto.  But we aren't redirecting
any local client printers, everything is network based/shared.
In digging into these two issues I have run across the following error we get regularly in the PrintService Event Viewer log:
The print spooler failed to import the printer driver that was downloaded from \\printserver\print$\x64\PCC\ntprint.inf_amd64_59246c3ac1bd3f2a.cab into the driver store for driver Microsoft enhanced Point and Print compatibility driver. Error code= 800f024b.
This can occur if there is a problem with the driver or the digital signature of the driver.
And digging further into that seems to be that their was an error validating one of the DLL files as seen at the following thread:  http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/9fe186e4-52f7-4552-a223-b2320cfc9ed5/driver-install-semi-fails-with-800f024b?forum=winserverprint
We get the exact same error that is shown there UNISRV.DLL being flagged as invalid, and have applied the hotfix indicated in KB2701894.
I am not sure the above error is realted to the issues at hand, but figured it is a good starting point to eliminate it as a potential cause of the issue.
Any input or suggestions on what to do to diagnose or further resolve this would be greatly appreciated!

Alan, I'm getting this error 600 in my company. Is there any fix for this problem?
After installing KB2919355 on Windows 2012 R2, when I try to map a shared printer I receive the following error message: A policy is in effect on your computer which prevents you from connecting to this print queue. Please contact your system administrator.
If I uninstall the patch the shared printer maps correctly.
I also notice that if I copy the driver \\server\print$\x64\PCC\ntprint.inf_amd64_a7ac65d1b7714fb1.cab
from a Windows 2012 R2 before applying KB2919355 to the server that has the patch applyed (and rename it), I can map the printer.
Does anyone know if there is a fix for that?

  • Send As from a shared mailbox stopped working

I have created a Shared Mailbox a few months ago and gave one use full access rights and send as permissions. This worked perfectly since it was created. On Friday, the user started getting:
Delivery has failed to these recipients or groups:
You can't send a message on behalf of this user unless you have permission to do so. Please make sure you're sending on behalf of the correct sender, or request the necessary permission.
If the problem continues, please contact your helpdesk.
There have been no changes made to any of the rights or permissions anywhere. The shared mailbox properties still show this user in the full access and send as list. The shared accounts address is available in the GAL so that is not an issue.
Any ideas would be appreciated. I could probably recreate this mailbox, but would rather fix the issue or at least know what happened in case it does it again.
    Nick Laurino

    Hi,
Have you tried removing and then re-adding the permission for the user? Worth a try when such issue occurs.
As the administrator, you may want to verify that the user actually does have "Send-As" permission on the shared mailbox. To do that,
Open the Exchange Management Console on the Server
Navigate to Recipient Configuration > Mailbox and right click the Shared Malibox
    Select "Manage Send As Permission"
Check that the user is listed in the permissions
To solve the issue on the client side, delete the offline address book and allow Outlook to recreate it.
    Close Outlook
Delete the Offline Address Book folder
It can be found under "C:\users\{username}\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\Offline Address Books"
Open Outlook and it will download a fresh copy of the Offline Address Book
I hope this can be helpful.

  • Web sharing suddenly stops working

    Hello there!
I'm using web sharing all the time to stream content from my mac to my ps3. It was always working flawlessly with no issues whatsoever. Today there's no way I can connect to from my ps3 and any other device as well. It's not a password error message I'm just getting a "could not connect to the server" error.

I too am getting the same problem. Web Sharing WAS fine now I get the following message:
NOTE ~myusername has been substituted to avoid confusion.
    Error!
Could not connect to remote server
You tried to access the address http://192.168.1.253/~myusername/, which is currently unavailable. Please make sure that the Web address (URL) is correctly spelled and punctuated, then try reloading the page.
    Using Terminal I get:
    /usr/sbin/apachectl configtest
    Syntax OK
    ls -l /usr/sbin/apachectl
    -rwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 3640 24 sep 2007 /usr/sbin/apachectl
    which apachectl
    /usr/sbin/apachectl
    -bash: /private/etc/apache2/users/myusername.conf: Permission denied
NOTE (this test is being run from user a/c quentin
NOTE (this test seems to be picking up a website in "Sites" directory called Q-website_NEW this website is currently running live on the www)

I have tried re-editing the myusername.conf file thus:
    <Directory "/Users/myusername/Sites/">
    Options Indexes MultiViews
    AllowOverride None
    Order allow,deny
    Allow from all
    </Directory>
and have replaced it in the directory
    /etc/apache2/users/
    then I ran the command
    sudo chown root:wheel /etc/apache2/users/shortname.conf
    with this result
    quentin:~ myusername$ sudo chown root:wheel /etc/apache2/users/shortname.conf
    Password:
chown: /etc/apache2/users/shortname.conf: No such file or directory
    quentin:~ myusername$
NOTE please remember "myusername" has been substituted to avoid confusion.
I am still unable to access my web sharing and am still getting the error message quoted at the start of this post.
I would greatly appreciate any advice as I am currently trying to implement php and MySQL on this machine.
