SharePoint 2010 Application Page Caching

I'm trying to figure out the best way to go about caching application pages with CAML and/or LINQ queries that take forever to load.
The OOTB caching in SharePoint isn't doing the trick...it's had zero affect on load times.
Any suggestions?

Hi,
By default, every time we access a page, it will make calls to database and query data. As I understand, you would like a way that can cache the data so that it doesn’t need to query each time.
Here is a link for caching in SharePoint 2010:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/kunal_mukherjee/archive/2011/01/10/caching-in-share-point-2010-best-practice.aspx
Please check Page output cache profiles, it reduces the amount of SQL calls and workload on WFE:

    Hi,
    For this issue, you can add the following line of code into the pickerdialog.master which lays in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS
    <meta http-equiv=”x-ua-compatible” content=”IE=8”>
    Or we can use the JavaScript code provided in this blog which would also do the trick:

    While there can be many causes for this generic error message, in my case the first parameter or ddwrt:DataBind function inside the SharePoint:FormFields element was
    'i' and I was working with an Edit Form. Changing it to
    'u' as it was with every other FormField fixed the issue.
    <SharePoint:FormField runat="server" id="ff1{$Pos}" ControlMode="Edit" FieldName="Esittaja" __designer:bind="{ddwrt:DataBind('u',concat('ff1',$Pos),'Value','ValueChanged','ID',ddwrt:EscapeDelims(string(@ID)),'@Esittaja')}"
    />
    Explanation:
    DataBind operation type parameters (the first parameter) are listed below:
    'i' stands for INSERT,
    'u' stands for UPDATE,
    'd' stands for DELETE.

  • How to Get current username in custom SharePoint 2010 master page

    Hi,
    How can I get current logged-in username in SharePoint 2010 custom master page?
    Regards,
    Amit

    You can use the SPContext.Web.CurrentUser object to get at the information you're looking for. This can be accessed either via client-side JavaScript or server-side ASP.NET code.
    Getting the logged in user's login and name via JavaScript:
    <script>
    ExecuteOrDelayUntilScriptLoaded(function(){
    var clientContext = SP.ClientContext.get_current();
    var CurrentUser = clientContext.get_web().get_currentUser();
    clientContext.load(CurrentUser);
    clientContext.executeQueryAsync(Function.createDelegate(this,function(){
    // User's Name
    alert(CurrentUser.get_title());
    // User's Login
    alert(CurrentUser.get_loginName());
    }),Function.createDelegate(this,function(sender,args){alert(args.get_message())}));
    },"SP.JS");
    </script>
    And of course, it's even easier via server-side C#:
    <script runat="server">
    String username = SPContext.Current.Web.CurrentUser.Name;
    String userlogin = SPContext.Current.Web.CurrentUser.LoginName;
    </script>
    I hope that helps!

  • How to block specific DL in SharePoint 2010 application.

    Hi All,
    We have SharePoint 2010 farm. I have a requirement to block specific Distribution List which should not recognized when user trying to give access at (user.aspx page)site level.
    How can i  restrict this in SharePoint 2010 farm.
    Regards

    You can use content editor webpart to run javascript. Java script will redirect users from accessing the site. You need t o specify the user Id; it wont work on DL
    Blow is the java script:
    ==================Script Start ===============
    ExecuteOrDelayUntilScriptLoaded(getWebUserData, "sp.js");
    var context = null;
    var web = null;
    var currentUser = null;
        function getWebUserData() {
            context = new SP.ClientContext.get_current();
            web = context.get_web();
            currentUser = web.get_currentUser();
           currentUser.retrieve();
            context.load(web);
            context.executeQueryAsync(Function.createDelegate(this, this.onSuccessMethod), Function.createDelegate(this, this.onFailureMethod));
        function onSuccessMethod(sender, args) {
            var userObject = web.get_currentUser();
            if (userObject.get_loginName() == 'i:0#.w|domain\userid')

    What is the latency (measured via ping) between the App and SQL Server? SharePoint 2010 RTM hasn't been supported for quite some time. Upgrade to SP2 and see if it resolves the issue.

  • Applying the SignOn for SharePoint 2010 Application

    We have a SharePoint intranet application, where each user when accesses the site automatically sees his name in the top.
    Could you please let me know, if we could confirm that Single Sign On is already applied on this site from the above behavior.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    To confirm that Single Sign On is already applied on this site, You need to add SharePoint site in trusted zone of browser.
    open IE-->tools-->internet options-->select security tab and add your site in trusted zone.
    Also change below authentication:
    1.Go to Tools > Internet Options, click
    Security Tab
    2.Under Security tab click on Custom Level button
    3.On Security Settings dialog box scroll down until you see
    User Authentication settings section
    4.Select Automatic logon with current username and passowrd, click
    OK on Security Settings box, then click
    OK under Internet Options box

  • Sharepoint 2010 - Home Page not displaying, all other pages work fine

    The web page URL <server>/sitepages/Home.aspx is not displaying when accessed. All other pages work fine. We changed the default welcome page to another page, and that works. When we try to access the Home.aspx, it displays "An unexpected error
    occurred" message. The Home.aspx only contains a couple of Lists, with Links, and a calendar. The other odd thing is that the Home.aspx displays in SharePoint designer in Advanced Edit mode, but won't display in a browser. Any ideas?

    Hi Isepic,
    1) Check the approval of the page (Home.aspx) whether it is in pending state .
    2) OR might be some problematic webpart is added in the page. You can try to close it and access. To do that,you can try to access the web part maintenance page of home.aspx and test by closing the webpart one by one.
         To access the maintenance page,pass the parameters ?contents=1 after the home.aspx
           For example, http://site url/home.aspx?contents=1
    3) Also,check the ULS logs after accessing the home.aspx to know what is happening.

  • Per site, list driven footer and other content areas on a SharePoint 2010 master page?

    So I worked with a vendor to provide a js, a powershell script and <div> content holders in a master page that would pull the content dynamically based on the site or subsite, and more specifically from a custom list in that site. To explain, if I
    have a root site collection but want to be able to have the end user control the site content, such as a custom top navigation (above the global) and custom footer, and custom place holder content that would appear under the navigation; I would like to have
    that content pulled from a list.
    My goal is to not have a "custom master page" for the many many sites we have in our environment. I am using twitter bootstrap as the foundation for the master pages, then a set number of page layouts pending whether they want left nav to show
    or not. I also typically just use the v4.master for the system pages, but am not sure if that is a best practice either being that the list display forms for a publishing site are ugly so need customized per list.
    Has any one done anything like this and if so could you point me in the right direction? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Right now am working within SP2010 but will be testing for SP2013 in the near future.

    Hi,
    Based on my understanding, you might want to display dynamic content in the pages which reference a specific master page, the content stores in a custom list, users
    can update the master page by updating the corresponding list items.
    Then there would be two main steps in a solution like this:
    1. Data retrieving of a list: JavaScript Client Object Model can help to query the needed items from a list;
    JavaScript Client Object Model
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/hh185006(v=office.14).aspx
    More information about JavaScript Client Object Model:
    How to: Create, Update, and Delete List Items Using JavaScript
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/hh185011(v=office.14).aspx
    2. Modify the master page: With the data retrieved, we can then change the HTML source code of a page using JavaScript.
    About how to
    modify the HTML using JavaScript:
    http://www.w3schools.com/js/js_htmldom_html.asp
    http://njarb.com/2011/06/update-html-content-using-javascript/
    We can apply the custom JavaScript to the master page, then when users open a page which references this master page, the JavaScript will run, get data from the custom
    list, change the HTML source of the current page and display the content you want.

    Hello all,
    We have two SharePoint applications,

    2. SharePoint 2013 application which uses claim based authentication + Form Based Authentication.

    Is this an intranet application, in which you can add the sites to the trusted internet zone or intranet zone to allow your machine to automatically pass credentials.
    That of course won't make the FBA work automatically, that isn't possible as far as i know.

  • Display CRM 2013 Dashboard in SharePoint 2010 Page Viewer web part

    Hello,
    I am trying to add a simple CRM 2013 dashboard to a SharePoint 2010 web page (Page Viewer web part).  The page shows the banner only - the dark blue banner from CRM, but that is it.  No data, no headers, etc.
    Is this a permissions issue?  The SP and CRM servers and user are all on the domain.
    Thanks,

    Hello,
    I believe I found the answer to this issue.  The GUID for the dashboard needs to be copied from customizations/Dashboards in Settings.  Then the URL ends up looking [something] like this (note: this is just a sample) -
    http://SERVERNAME/ORGNAME/Dashboards/Dashboard.aspx?dashboardid=NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN
    Server name and org name and GUID (sample below shown as "NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN") needs to be replaced with the correct GUID of your entity to make the URL valid.  This is just a sample, not meant to be used in a production
    environment.

  • Next SharePoint 2010 certification step

    I've recently passed the exam 70-667 (MCTS Microsoft SharePoint 2010, Configuring) and I have to choose the next SharePoint 2010 exam to take: which one could be the best choice? 70-668 (MCITP Microsoft SharePoint 2010, Administrator) or 70-573 (MCTS Microsoft
    SharePoint 2010, Application Development)?
    Regardless of the order, I'll have to take all the 4 SharePoint 2010 certifications before moving entirely to SharePoint 2013.
    Luigi Bruno MCP, MCTS, MOS, MTA

    Hi.
    I highly recommend that you get 70-668 passed ASAP. Microsoft might be retiring 70-667 and 70-668 on January 31, 2014. The MCITP SharePoint 2010 title will no longer be attainable after July 31, 2014. After passing 70-668, you can get your MCPD by passing
    70-573 and 70-576. These developer exams are not yet slated for retirement.

    Good luck!

    Hi David!
    Happy new year and thanks for your reply.
    I subscribe to your point of view: that was the certification path I was thinking about as soon as I've passed the 70-667 exam; furthermore, having studied for the 70-667 made me "ready" for those administrative concepts that are more deeply presented in the
    70-668 exam.
    Maybe this one will be my choice, too.
    Thank you again.
    Bye.

  • Need to Upgrade Sharepoint 2010 to SP2- advise!

    Hello All,
    I do not work on SharePoint services much, basic operations only.  I am entitled to upgrade the SP application and backend SQL in order to make it compatible with our Backup Solution (Symantec Backup Exec 2014).
    We got 2 servers, one is running the SharePoint 2010 application (v 14.0.5136.5002), and another is running the MS SQL Server (SQL V10.0.2531.0) for database.
    We want to upgrade  1) SP from v 14.0.5136.5002 into Service Pack 2 (14.0.7015.1000)
                                       2) SQL from (SQL V10.0.2531.0) into SP3 (10.0.5500.0).
    I am referring to following threads for version sequence and downloads, apparently correct and helpful-
    SP: http://www.toddklindt.com/blog/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=224
    SQL: http://sqlserverbuilds.blogspot.com/
    My question is,  1) while upgrading which one to go first - Sharepoint App server or SQL server? What's the best  Sequence?
                              2) Can I upgrade SP and SQL from current version to the mentioned version, by directly downloading and
    installing those versions? Or I have to deploy any hotfixes/patches prior to that release from the current one?
    Thanks for any advises.
    Insaf Muhammed

    HI Muhammad,There is no Sequence for SQL,SP.we can do first SQL and next SP.please find the details below for Sp-Sp2 and SQL.You can find all the latest updates and patches in Cumulative update in post categories.

    Thank you very much Mr. Anil for the advise and SP link!
    Great article for SP SP2 upgrade with screenshots.  So as I understand I can go ahead and install SQL SP3 and SP SP2 downloads on top of current releases I have and everything should be OK!
    I couldn't see the SQL SP3 deployment part around, could you post if you got one?
    Thanks a lot :)

  • SharePoint 2010 Item level permissions nightmare...how do I escape this madness?

    We have a custom SharePoint 2010 application that helps process job req. documents from 200+ partner companies. Each company can only see its own job req. documents (done using item level permissions in one document library).
    The number of documents is getting close to 3k. I've read that once you get over 5k, you'll see a huge performance hit because of the number of unique security scopes.
    Creating 200+ libraries is out of the question. That just seems like an even bigger logistical nightmare...especially since we add partners every month almost. We have reports that run off of this data and querying that many libraries would be nuts.
    Next would be making folders for each company. A lot of recoding would need to be done, but my biggest concern will be not being able to sort and filter properly.
    I've tried writing a PowerShell script to copy everything into folders in a new library and the filtering doesn't work even after messing around with the view to not show the folders at all.
    The last thing I'm considering is just archiving older data that may no longer be relevant by year or something.
    Has anyone else run into a similar issue?
    Any suggestions?

    Hi,
    Once you have exceeded the threshold limit, certainly there will be performance issues. However, you can still iterate though lists/libraries that exceed threshold limit by workaround here:
    List Threshold
    Additionally, please refer following link which demonstrates how you can implement sorting/paging for lists exceeding threshold limit:

    Hi Sara,
    According to your description, you want to create a web part to display users' birthday and send email for the users.
    For this requirement, you can use Jquery and a CEWP instead of a visual webpart , more information, please refer to the link:
