  • SharePoint Foundation 2013 installation question / guide.

    Hi All,
I'm new in SharePoint and going to Install SharePoint Foundation 2013. What I want is after installation when I'll provide Site URL to my users they can able to access the site using there windows / system Login ID and Password which has been provided by company.
Can you please help me what steps I've to follow while doing the installation also is it need to install SQL Server also for foundation. Please Advice
    Thanks

    Hi,
SQL is the backbone for SharePoint and your SharePoint content (the content you actually store in your sites) is going into SQL. So, SQL is mandatory but if you are planning to use SQL Express (the lightweight edition) then you don’t need to install it separately
    – by selecting a Standalone type SP Installation wizard will automatically install SQL Express for you. But there are few limitations directly associated with express edition. Like Microsoft SQL Server Express Edition database cannot be larger than 10 GB etc.
For a complete list please visit
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc645993.aspx
In order to access newly created site, all you need to install SP product and create a site using the site template, once done grant access to the required users via site settings page and that way users can access sites.
    I hope it helps you.
    Thanks.

  • Sharepoint Foundation 2010 SP2 or SharePoint Foundation 2013

    Experts,
    I am installing FIM 2010 R2 SP1 on windows 2012.
    FIM Sync installed on server1.
    FIM Service installed on server2.
    Now I have to install:-
    FIM Portal on server3.
With googling I understand that I need SharePoint Foundation 2013 or SharePoint Foundation 2010 SP2.
Can anyone guide what would be the safe approach. I don't have any knowledge of SharePoint.
    Please suggest.
    Thanks,
    Mann

Considering you would use it for FIM only, it doesn't really matter which version would you pick.
If you want to implement FIM on Windows Server 2012 (or R2), just make sure that you install correct version of SharePoint (at least 2010 SP2)

  • Sharepoint Foundation 2013 On a SBS 2011 Domain??

I have an SBS 2011 domain with 2 servers(SBS2011 Premium) The SBS box acts as domain controller and the second server runs Server 2008R2 and has SQL 2008R2 on it for Dynamics GP and Dynamics CRM 2011 and hosts the Sharepoint Foundation 2010 Databases. Is
there a way that I can setup a Sharepoint Foundation 2013 farm. Currently both boxes are farm members in the 2010 farm. I would like to keep the setup similar but if I have to can I just run the farm on the 2nd server. Will it live side by side with the Sharepoint
2010 on the SBS box. What about Companyweb? Thanks in advance

  • Sharepoint Foundation 2013 on Windows Server 2012 R2 Essential - any chance to install?

Understood that it's impossible to install SharePoint as it is not supported on a domain Controller BUT is there any chance to install instead SharePoint Foundation 2013 on a Essential Server?

    Hi:
Seems so, although as you know it would be better on a member server as a VM.

  • Sharepoint foundation 2013 collaboration - for a VERY small workgroup. Right choice???

    Hi!
Let me start with a short background:
I've developed an ASP.Net application which currently uses Apache Solr for search and retrieval operations and for that purpose it works well. However, the users of this application has started to ask for facilities such as discussion forums, document-collaboration
(webdav, versioning, workflow...), calendars etc. and I'm faced with a feeling that I'm about to embark on a journey where I will develop functionality which is present in some of the "free" tools that Microsoft offers.
I've downloaded Search Server Express 2010 and in a very short amount of time I was able to develop a rather, well, sophisticated collaboration environment which gives me almost all of the above. Search is a KEY-feature that is one of the major concerns
for me as Solr provides alot of very sophisticated search-related operations but I've heard alot of good stuff about the Search Server included in SP Foundation 2013, which makes me wonder what that would give me if I take the plunge...
I'm a complete newbie to this SP-related stuff so I thought I'd better ask the pros in this forum so I don't make any unwise decisions leaving me in the dust :)
Soo, my dear fellow forum members - what would be the best way to go about this given the following facts:
    small workgroup (8 people)
    possibility to handle office-document, pdf-files and plain-text
discussion forums (both team-based and public)
    team calendars
possibility to provide, say, a REST-api for digesting text-based data
powerful search facility able to index all of the document formats mentioned above
I'm leaning towards SharePoint Foundation 2013... what do you say - will it provide the above?
Many thanks to you all in advance,
    /Peter

Simple answer: yes. SharePoint Foundation sounds like an excellent choice. There's one question that you'll need to answer: 8 people is not much, but how much data are they working with? That's probably not going to be an issue, but something you need
    to be aware of.

  • SharePoint 2007 (WSS 3.0) migration to SharePoint Foundation 2013

    Hi
I have a requirement to migrate a SharePoint 2007 (WSS 3.0) farm to a SharePoint Foundation 2013 farm. The WSS 3.0 farm has SQL Server 2005 Standard running so no restrictions on the size of the content database. The SharePoint Foundation 2010 and 2013 farms
will share the same SQL Server 2012 Standard instance (as I know WSS 3.0 will have to be migrated to 2010 before 2013). I also have two other WSS 3.0 farms (so three WSS 3.0 Farms, lets call these A (250GB), B (90GB) and C (60GB)) that I need to migrate
into WSS 3.0 Farm A before the migration to SP 2010.
My question is, can I migrate a 400GB WSS 3.0 site collection to SP 2010 or will I have to split this into separate site collections? I have read that there is a best practice limit of 100GB per site collection but this does not stop a larger migration from
happening. Obviously over time when the migration has completed to SharePoint Foundation 2013 the single site collection will grow and grow so perhaps now is the right time to split this out into, say, year named site collections, but surely this will incur
an end of year process to create new site collections and a custom dev headache due to different locations to send newly created sites?
    Thanks.

The answer is Yes, and you are correct about the best practice of a limit of 100GB,
although, document and record centers (e.g. non collaborative) can go much higher.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262787(v=office.15).aspx#ContentDB
That being what it is, your sites will perform better if you find a topology that allows the content databases to be under 100GB each.  You can use Move-SPSite to accomplish that feat.
You'll want a separate instance for 2010 and a separate instance for 2013
and finally, put some quota's in place and then governance document\statement that informs users that 100 GB is the max for any given site collection that uses collaborative features (calendars, lists, workflows, etc.)
The simple path is explained on technet, go from 2007 to 2010 (you can inplace upgrade if you want) then go from 2010 to 2013, database detach and attach is only way.
please check the below link that explains more about the migration from share point 2007->2013.

Is SharePoint Foundation 2013 is like SharePoint Foundation 2010 free?
    Is SharePoint Foundation 2013 free?

  • SharePoint Foundation 2013 - Master Pages

I am trying to create a SharePoint Intranet site but am quickly running into a number of issues and am looking for help.
I need to create a site that has multiple subsites (one for each department) however all of the subsites need to have a consistent look and feel about them so I have delved head long into branding, creating master pages, etc.  I have set-up  a
master page, with a logo and icon, I would like this to cascade down to all subsites and pages below however I have no option to set this up.
Is this a limitation of using foundation?  What other limitations are there to foundation that I need to be aware of?
There also doesn't seem to be any visual designer, what do people use and what would people recommend to use?
I am sure there will be a number of other questions that I need to ask but these will do for starters.

  • SharePoint Foundation 2013 Web Analytics

    Problem:
I am using SharePoint Foundations 2013 (no patches) and trying to get Web Analytics working but running into difficulty. The error I am getting is the dreaded, "A web analytics report
is not available for this site. Usage processing may be disabled on this server or the usage data for this site has not been processed yet.", when I click on Site Settings -> Site Web analytics reports
    Items completed:
Enabled Site Usage and data collection in Central Admin.
Logs are full of data in the hive
I can see the data in dbo.requestusage in the WSS logging database.
Possible problem is that Web Analytics has been deprecated in SharePoint 2013 however why would Microsoft have Web analytics link if it was deprecated.
    Question:
How can I get Web Analytics to show data or has it been completely removed from SharePoint Foundations 2013 and the link is just there for frustration?
    Jay

    We’re having the same Problem.
According to the following links, “Usage Analytics” and “Usage Reporting and Logging” are
    available in SharePoint Foundation 2013:

    Are they wrong?
I don’t mean the search related Reports (Most Popular Items), I mean the very simple Reports like

  • SharePoint Foundation 2013 Managed Account.

    Hi all,
I have a doubt, I want to register a new managed account in SharePoint Foundation 2013, My question is do I need to know the password of active directory user account which I am going to add as the Managed account.
is it that the password which I enter while creating the managed account must match with the password of Active Directory user Account. Below is the screen shot in which there is a field for username & password. I know the UserName, can we assign any
password to this or the password must match with the password given in AD.
    Please clear my doubts.
    Thanks.

    Adding more information :
A Managed Account is effectively an Active Directory user account whose credentials are managed by and contained within SharePoint.  In addition to storing the credentials of the object, Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 can also leverage Active Directory
Domain Policies to  automatically reset passwords while meeting the requirements established by policy.
    How credentials are stored…
Managed Account credentials are encrypted using a farm encryption key that is specified when you run PSConfig[ui].exe at farm creation based on the passphrase.  The passphrase is stored in a secure registry location so that it can only be accessed by the
farm account and encrypted so that only the farm account has access

  • SharePoint Foundation 2013 Prerequisite installer keeps installing and restarting the server

    Hi,
I'm trying to install SharePoint foundation 2013 on Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard SP1.
I already install SQL Server 2012 SP1 and TFS 2013 on the server.
I don't have internet connection on the server so i install the next prerequisites manually:
    SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 Native Client
    Microsoft WCF Data Services 5.0
Microsoft Information Protection and Control Client (MSIPC)
    Microsoft Sync Framework Runtime v1.0 SP1 (x64)
    Windows Identity Extensions
    Windows Identity Foundation (KB974405)
    Windows Management Framework 3.0
Then I ran the prerequisitiesInstaller.exe from command line -
prerequisiteInstaller.exe /appfabric:[Full AppFabric Installer path] /KB2671763:[AppFabric update path]
the prerequisiteInstaller start to run - after some steps it request for server restart, after the server upload the installer start again and after some steps it request for server restart.
    This loop is never ending.
I tried to do some action to fix this issue:
     http://spreza.blogspot.co.il/2013/05/sharepoint-2013-prerequisite-keeps.html
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/bccdb9f1-dd91-4db1-bd19-6bfa658727f5/sharepoint-server-2010-setup-keep-asking-for-reboot?forum=sharepointadminprevious
There is any reason or solution for this scenario?

Have you checked the log to see at what point and what update is requiring the re-boot?  I suspect one of your manually installed pre-requisites may be an older version and when it restarts it starts the regular automated installer, which is causing
the loop.  Check the log for more specific errors.  The installer creates the log in the following location %TEMP%\prerequisiteinstaller.<date>.<time>.log

  • Reports for Sharepoint Foundation 2013

The farm consists of two servers :
server01 : SharePoint Foundation 2013 Web Front End and Application Server
server02 :SQL Server 2012, hosts config and content databases
I need to create some basics reports and pivot tables reports with totals or calculations using lists from
multi-sites of a single Collection. How ca I do that ?
    Thanks for help.

The easiest way to do that would be to use PowerPivot and Excel Services.  But those are both features that aren't available in Foundation.  You would need to upgrade to SharePoint server.  I don't know of any way to do pivot tables in SharePoint
without Excel Services which requires SharePoint Server.

  • Anonymous Access Sharepoint Foundation 2013

Is it possible to allow anonymous access in Sharepoint Foundation 2013?  I've enabled anonymous access at the site level as well as via central administration but users are still prompted for login when browsing to the site anonymously.  I'm
more curious if this is an issue with the Foundation version specifically at this point.  Thanks.

    Hi mtrosper,
Please disable anonymous access via the UI, then enable it using PowerShell, compare the result.
You can use the following PowerShell command to enable it:
    $webApp = Get-SPWebApplication 'http://someurl:9999'
    $webApp.IisSettings['Default'].AllowAnonymous=$false
    $webApp.update()
